Mark's heart was racing with anticipation and excitement as he and his friends finally stepped into the bustling arcade, taking in all the vibrant colors, as the blaring sound effects and bright neon lights danced along the floor under their feet. The sweet smell of cotton candy wafted through the air, catching Mark's attention, as it merged with the savory aroma of pepperoni pizza (his favorite) lingering from the birthday feast outside in the main room. Rows of games flashed invitingly, their colorful screens beckoning for eager plays, until Charlotte's little voice caught Mark's attention away from the cotton candy and delicious pizza. ''Look at all of these games!'' she squealed, her green eyes widening on sight as she began touching every single button, totally oblivious to what she was doing, even if the buttons were linked to totally different games. ''Let's play this one!'' she said, pointing excitedly at a large, vibrant machine with a racing theme tied to it-the same one that Mark had enjoyed playing with his father. ''I'm the driver!'' Mark yelled as he raced over to the game, climbing into the oversize seat as Charlotte hopped in the other seat, grabbing the wheel, as she began twisting it left, then right. Chris shuffled along, his eyes peering past the giant back walls of the seats, as he tried to catch a better view of the excitement. ''I'll be your pit crew!'' he laughed, as he began mimicking the sounds of the car engine, pretending to adjust a few non-existent dials, that had Charlotte getting in character, as the two pretended to be on a race track team together.

As the game went on, the familiar noises of revving engines and cheering crowds were practically burned into Mark's skull, as he careened his car through pixelated landscapes, dodging obstacles, as he competed for victory. Mark's concentration was intense, each boost and corner turn, sending the butterflies in his stomach to come back, but this time it was only because he was determined to win. However admits the swirling colors, and flashes of light, the nagging sense of something watching him never truly left. He felt a cool draft brush by him as if a shadow lingered at the edge of his vision, each time stealing a glance towards the corner of the arcade, expecting to see that golden Bonnie, lurking just beyond the edge of the party lights, but this time, he didn't see it, so was it even real? Doubt stole its way into his mind like a thief -had it just been a trick of the light or was his imagination just running wild from all the sugar he'd consumed? ''Mark! Focus on the game, your fading into the bushes!'' Charlotte called, out, pulling him from the game, as he steered the wheel, panic coming over him as he tried to steer his car outta of the bushes, the forest landscape running past his vision, as a sound of screeching tires erupted from his machine. ''I got it!'' he yelled, as he leaned the steering wheel a final time. The game whirred as it produced a loud beeping noise just as he sped ahead, laughter bubbling between the three friends, as Mark raced neck-and-neck against Charlotte.

After several rounds, their victory was celebrated with loud cheers from guests nearby, who'd stopped their games just to watch the commotion. Once they were finished, they hopped off the racing game, cheeks-flushed with exertion and joy, as Mark wiped a bead of sweat from his brow. ''Did you see how I crushed that last lap?!'' he beamed at Chris. ''Yeah-h-only because I was the best pit crew ever!'' Chris chimed in with a laugh, puffing out his tiny chest. ''Yeah, only because Charlotte kicked you from her team,'' Mark replied, rolling his eyes. As the three of them headed deeper into the arcade, rows of machines beckoned them-shooting games with many flashing lights, claw machines tempting with puppies and princess's, Charlotte almost couldn't resist running off without them just to play, and a variety of other racing and adventure games.

Mark's desire to explore was insatiable, as he led the charge, skipping game after game, not wanting to stop till he found the right one. As he felt a warmth radiate from the joy surrounding him, he finally reached a game where bright ducks bobbled along a winding streams:players trying their luck at sooting them down with soft darts, however not many were very good at it, Mark having turned his eyes on the score boards above the machines, knowing inside himself he could do better. ''Let's play next!'' he exclaimed, eagerly waving his friends over. The trio clustered around the game, each selecting their dart as they got eagerly ready for their turns. As they waited, they toyed around with the many pinball machines nearby, the lights flashing as the music boomed from each one they managed to get in, the hive of laughter doubling as each shot sent Charlotte into a bounce into the air, that caught Mark's smile. Then it happened again. There, out of the corner of his eye, he caught it. Golden Bonnie. This time, the animatronic seemed to shimmer under the arcade lights, standing frozen, unyielding just outside the zone of vibrant decor. It held an air of peculiarity, as it watched him, almost lurking in the shadows, while the laughter turned eerie, bringing the butterflies back full power.

''Markie?'' Charlotte called out, nudging him playfully. ''What's wrong? You seem a little spaced out.''

''Um, nothing! Just...just enjoying the game!'' he replied quickly. ''I'm just thinking about what game we should try after this, is all.'' Moving onto a nearby machine, Mark leaned into the experience as best as he could, as they started a new round. Time seemed to fly by as they played, the atmosphere bright and jubilant, yet Mark's unease seemed to be flaring intermittently this time, not sure if he would be able to just shake it off. It was the kind of feeling that crept up on you silently, like a whisper that just wouldn't stop. Eventually, it came the time for them to try the duck challenge came, making their way over to it, its glass front filled with so many colorful plush characters- mostly cartoon animals and silly monsters, Mark not sure which one he'd be working on getting first. ''Since you went first on the duck challenge, I'm first here!'' Charlotte declared, as she dropped three fazcoins into the machine. ''Aim for the bunny or the bear!'' Chris cheered, beaming with excitement.

''No, I want that pink unicorn right there! You can get the bear or bunny on your turn.'' Charlotte replied, as her eyes wouldn't come away from a bright pink unicorn, who's mane and tail was covered with arranged colors of sparkles. As the friends skillfully maneuvered the claw machine, Mark couldn't help himself but glance in the corner where he'd seen the golden Bonnie, only to find it still empty. A shiver danced down his spine, more pronounced this time, adding to the butterflies in his stomach, as he felt sick. ''Where did it go?'' he murmured to himself, his thoughts spiraling as curiosity urged him forwards. ''Markie, look!'' Charlotte's voice managed to pull him back, just in time for his face to be covered by a medium-sized very bright pink unicorn, some of the sparkles actually came off, sticking to his nose and cheeks, which only made Charlotte laugh harder. ''Way to go!'' he cheered, clapping as he wiped the few sparkles from his face. But even as they celebrated her victory, that sense of dread didn't seem to waver, whispering with uncertainties that fought against the roaring joy in the arcade, at this point, Mark was getting upset, he wanted to leave. ''We should take a picture with our prizes!'' Chris suggested, still buzzing from all the excitement. ''But-I didn't get a chance to win yet.'' Mark whispered, voice soft, as he met his friends eyes. ''Oh, that's okay! I was able to win two things, you can just pose with my pink unicorn and I'll pose with this duck.'' she suggested as she passed the bright unicorn over to Mark, replacing it with the white and yellow baby duckling she'd won. ''Okay, everyone say, balloon boy!'' someone in the background announced. Mark's face fell the instant he heard that, but it was too late, the camera had already gone off.

After the picture that arcade seemed to become more alive, just as more kids came bustling inside, overwhelming Mark to the point where he had to get out of there, however Charlotte and Chris seemed to be feeling the same, as together they left the arcade, prizes in hand, as Mark found his eyes landing on the still pink balloon tied to his wrist. Even though they had left the arcade, somewhere in that maze of flashing lights and delicious smelling food, he couldn't get those haunting purple eyes out of his head. He couldn't quite articulate why, but he knew this birthday was tinged with a magic that held deeper layers to it, there was just something about it, that seemed wrong. He'd had many birthdays at Freddy Fazebear's Pizza and never once did he feel so uncomfortable as he did today, why was that? What had changed? Even though the golden Bonnie had disappeared, that didn't mean its presence wasn't still echoing in the darkness, whispering questions he only seemed to be able to hear...
