Next chapter of my Class of 09 story, a short little chapter to bring the story full circle and increase the hope for the future. Near the end now, so won't actually be any long chapters left.

Chapter 13

Jecka straightened up and sniffled. It had been four days since the shooting and although they had managed to repair the damage done to Nicole and remove the bullet, she was still out, the only confirmation she was still alive was her breathing and the beep of the heart monitor. She didn't know what to do now, all she could do was sit here and wait, with every passing day she became even more dismayed and worried. It seemed less and less likely that Nicole was going to recover. She was so desperate for good news that she looked up pleadingly as Kelly came into the room.

"Jecka...is Nicole-?"

She shook her head. "Sorry Kelly, there's been no change."

Kelly bowed her head sadly. They had both finally learned the full extent of Jeffrey's rampage, the deaths of all those that had been noted before, they now knew about all of them, another two teachers and three students had been wounded.

"I...I feel terrible saying this, with Nicole like this…" Kelly said sadly.

Jecka bit her lip. "What, what is it, is it good news?"

Kelly seemed a little surprised by this. "Um, yes actually...Emily and Ari are gonna be okay. They've recovered and they are being discharged now."

"Oh thank God, I needed to hear some good news after all this." Jecka said with a relieved sigh.

Kelly bit her lip but smiled on hearing that and nodded before leaving to give Jecka some time now.

It was some time later that Jecka was pleasantly surprised, when suddenly something happened that she did not expect. The sound of groaning from Nicole's bed.

"Nicole?"

The girl groaned and opened her eyes, blinking a few times.

"Urgh, too bright." She groaned.

"Nicole, you…?"

Nicole turned her head and gasped. "J-Jecka...are you, you're okay?"

"Me...you're the one who got shot." Jecka replied with a watery laugh. "Oh my God, I thought, I thought you-"

Nicole let out a soft chuckle, although grimaced in pain doing so. "You're not getting rid of me that easily."

Jecka bit her lip at that, trying to hold back her laughter while Nicole slowly, carefully sat up and then relaxed back against the bed.

"They, they fixed me up I guess, bullet gone and everything?" She replied.

Jecka nodded. "Yeah, they did, Jeffrey is rotting in jail as we speak. He's insisting on getting his day in court, but even his parents aren't supporting him now. If he does go down that route, it'll go badly for him."

"Good, little asshole deserve it." Nicole muttered. "It's good you're okay, I...I don't know I just…"

"Reacted...I think I understand."

Both girls locked gazes at that, suddenly aware of how close they'd got to each other, unable to resist, Nicole closed the gap, while surprised Jecka didn't stop her, in fact she responded as their lips met.

When they parted they were both staring at each other in shock, but then they smiled and finally accepted what they realized those strange feelings they were getting actually were. They just hoped that now, finally, things could get better. It was notable that they were looking to try and improve things as Nicole's mother then entered, Nicole was angry just seeing her, but did decide to at least hear her mother out. Maybe things could change and improve.
