The village of Foosha on Dawn Island was just as Alex Mercer remembered it from the pages of One Piece. It was a small, peaceful place, nestled on the edge of a vast ocean, where the villagers lived simple, quiet lives. Yet, this was the village that had seen the birth of one of the greatest pirates the world would ever know. And now, it was where Alex's journey as Luffy would truly begin.
As Alex approached the village, the familiar sights brought a wave of nostalgia. He had read about these places, seen them in the anime, but now he was here, living it. The villagers greeted him with the same warmth and familiarity they always had for Luffy. They didn't seem to notice anything different about him, and Alex quickly realized that, as far as they were concerned, he was the same Luffy they had always known.
But Alex wasn't. He was more focused, more serious, and above all, more aware of what was coming.
He decided to head towards Makino's tavern first. Makino had always been kind to Luffy, almost like an older sister. Alex figured she would be a good place to start, both to get some food and to think about his next steps. The village was quiet this early in the morning, with only a few people out and about, tending to their morning chores. It gave him time to collect his thoughts, to plan.
When Alex pushed open the door to Makino's tavern, the familiar creak of the wood and the smell of cooking meat greeted him. Makino looked up from behind the counter, her face breaking into a warm smile when she saw him.
"Luffy! You're up early today," she said, wiping her hands on her apron. "What brings you here so early? You usually sleep in after a day of running around."
Alex managed a grin, trying to channel the carefree nature of the original Luffy, even if it felt a bit forced. "Just felt like starting the day early," he replied, taking a seat at the counter. "Figured I'd come by and see you, Makino."
She chuckled, placing a plate of food in front of him—a hearty breakfast of eggs, meat, and bread. "Well, it's always nice to see you. But don't tell me you're starting to become a morning person!"
Alex laughed along with her, but his mind was elsewhere. He needed to prepare, but he also couldn't raise too many suspicions. The villagers knew Luffy as someone who acted on impulse, driven by his dreams rather than any long-term planning. If Alex suddenly became too serious, it might raise questions he wasn't ready to answer.
As he ate, Alex started to consider his options. He knew he couldn't set sail just yet—he needed a ship, a crew, and supplies. But more than that, he needed to train. Luffy's body was strong, but Alex could make it stronger, more versatile. And there was the matter of technology. The world of One Piece was filled with powerful weapons and devices, but Alex had the knowledge of a world far more advanced. With time, he could create tools that would give him an edge over even the most formidable foes.
"Makino," Alex began, looking up from his plate. "Do you know if there's anyone in the village who knows about... inventions? Machines, stuff like that?"
Makino looked a bit surprised by the question. "Inventions? That's not something I've heard you talk about before, Luffy. But I think the old man who lives near the edge of the village used to tinker with machines. He's retired now, but he might still have some of his old tools lying around."
Alex nodded, making a mental note to visit the old man later. If he could get his hands on some basic tools, he could start working on a few simple gadgets. Nothing too advanced—just enough to give him a head start.
As Alex finished his meal, Makino leaned over the counter, her expression more serious. "Luffy, is everything alright? You seem... different today. More thoughtful."
He hesitated for a moment. Makino was sharp, and it wouldn't be easy to hide the changes in his behavior from her. But he couldn't tell her the truth—not yet. "I guess I've just been thinking more about the future," he said, choosing his words carefully. "I still want to be the Pirate King, but I think I need to be smarter about it. You know, plan ahead a little more."
Makino smiled softly, reaching out to ruffle his hair. "That's a good thing, Luffy. But don't lose that part of you that makes you who you are, okay? The world needs someone with your spirit."
Alex nodded, but inwardly, he knew that things had already changed. The spirit of the original Luffy might still linger, but Alex was driving this ship now, and his approach was going to be different. The world of One Piece was unpredictable, but with his knowledge and Luffy's strength, Alex was confident that he could navigate it better than anyone else.
After thanking Makino for the meal, Alex left the tavern and headed towards the edge of the village, where the old inventor lived. As he walked, he felt the weight of the straw hat on his head, a constant reminder of the promise Luffy had made to Shanks. It was a promise Alex intended to keep, but he would do it his way—smartly, strategically, and with the knowledge that the future of the world was in his hands.
