Hey friends!

Second day of Sicktember is upon us and I've managed to get out another story tonight! Wow, I've impressed even myself now. For today, I decided to use one of the alternate prompts, as I wasn't really sure how to go about the actual prompt for today.

So here we go with Day 2, alternate prompt 2: "I didn't mean to wake you up."

Astrid woke with a start. Looking around, she realized it was still the middle of the night, there was no light coming in the window, and from the sounds of it, Hiccup was still out. Why did I wake up?

Astrid hadn't been sleeping well anyways. A light sleeper from the days of the dragon war, she tended to wake up when there was any kind of movement. Which made sleeping next to Hiccup interesting as he moved all the time and snored almost as bad as his father. However, since she'd become pregnant, she felt almost every movement of the baby, which had caused her to wake up more times than she could remember.

Which now brings back that question: why had she woken up this time? Was it just the baby moving again, or was it something else?

It couldn't have been Hiccup moving or even his snoring. He'd settled into just sleeping curled around her protectively and didn't move quite as much anymore. As for his snoring, after sleeping next to him for the last year and a half, she'd gotten used to his snoring and had learned to tune him out overnight.

Suddenly it just hit her, why she had woken up. She was gonna throw up, and if she didn't move fast, it was going to be all over her bed and Hiccup. That was the last thing she needed.

So carefully moving Hiccup's arm and leg that were wrapped around her, she stood up, trying ever so carefully to not wake him up. She stumbled to the bathroom, trying so hard to make it to the bathroom where she could empty the contents of her stomach, hopefully without waking up her husband.

Back on Old Berk, they would have had just a bucket sitting in the room that they could use overnight, so as to not find an outhouse in the middle of the night, but that would have meant that she would have had to stay in the room when dealing with this. Thankfully, when building the new houses on New Berk, Hiccup had been able to devise a way to not only get water in the houses without having to carry it, but he had figured out a way for the outhouse to move inside, so they didn't have to carry a nasty bucket in and out of the house.

She crouched next to the toilet in the bathroom, feeling a wave of nausea wash over her. As the first bout of vomiting raked her body, she heard Hiccup moving in the next room.

"Astrid?" came his very sleepy voice.

As she leaned back, relaxing a little, figuring it wasn't quite done, she thought she heard him getting up. It would be a minute or two though, as he had taken his prosthetic off that night before bed.

As the second bout of vomiting hit her, she heard Hiccup say her name again, this time a lot less sleepily and a lot closer, how did he get so close so fast?

Next thing she knew, as she was emptying the rest of her stomach into the toilet, she felt him pull her long hair back out of her face and start rubbing circles on her back.

Sure that her stomach was now fully empty of anything that had been in it yet, she leaned back, falling into her husband's arms.

"I didn't mean to wake you up," she said, relaxing into his arms.

He kissed her forehead, "Don't worry about it, sweetheart." He placed his hand on the side of her face, tilting her head towards his, "Are you okay?"

She attempted half a smile, "Y-yeah… I think it was just morning sickness because of the baby. My mom, and your mom actually, warned me about it."

"Do you think anymore is coming? Or do you think we can go back to bed?"

"I think it's done; I don't even think there's anything left in my stomach," Astrid chuckled.

Hiccup chuckled a little too, standing up before leaning down to pick her up. Astrid just rolled her eyes, "Babe, I can walk, y'know."

"I know, but I've already picked you up," he smiled as he laid her down on her side of the bed. "And now you're back in bed. I'll go get you a cup of water." He was gone before she could respond.

She guessed it was kinda weird, him taking care of her, she thought as she sat up. He got sick far more often, which usually led to her taking care of him rather frequently. It was weird to have their roles reversed, though she knew this would happen when or if she ever got sick. Just thinking about how he had been when she'd gotten the Scourge when they were out on the Edge, made her think he'd probably hand his chiefing duties off to someone in order to take care of her at any point.

"Here." Hiccup had just returned with the cup of water for her to drink, and was sitting next to her on the bed holding it front of her.

She took the cup and emptied it rather quickly, quicker than she probably should have, she thought as she set the cup on her bedside table. "Thanks."

By that point he had already laid back down, so she laid down, burying her face in his chest. She felt his arms close around her and pull the rest of her body closer to his.

"I love you, Hiccup."

"I love you too, my dear."

Well that was fun to write, even made myself giggle a few times. My plan is to keep writing; however, school does start tomorrow, so that may throw a small wrench in my plans to write.

Until next time...

Daystrid out!
