In the Hoshukan library, in some of the more high-level sections, the trio of arachnids had gotten their hands on what they came here for…
Lunatsuki's autobiography.
The book was an icy deep blue with light blue patterns in lightning and icy shapes, "The Tale of Lunatsuki" written on the front.
Weava opened the book, the others standing around her. "Found it…"
"Why is her diary kept in a library for anyone to read?" Scorpia asked apprehensively.
"It's not her actual diary… I think. It's a book written by her as a firsthand account of being the Yellow Ranger." Spydey explained with a slight embarrassed twinge to her cheeks at the implication of it being actual private property.
"...sure." Weava deadpanned.
"W-what do you mean sure?" Spydey asked.
"What's the difference between a diary and…that?" Scorpia asked, eyebrow raised.
"Diaries are things you write only for yourself. A book is something you write for other people."
"Ah."
"Can we move on?" Weava asked.
"Sorry, please continue."
Weava opened to the first page. "'This is a story a lot of people should hear. I have made a lot of mistakes in life, and discovered things others should know.'"
…
"Despite my reputation and what it'd have you think, I was not born into wealth, but in the dirt. Literally, born inside of a cave with no one to help my mother. My family scavenged for food, learning to steal bits, pieces, whatever we could from under people's noses.
As I got older I became friends with rougher and more volatile folks. I was good at stealing, better at not being seen. That talent draws certain people's eyes. Went from employer to employer. Started out with more steal-from-the-rich-give-to-the-poor types, but…as time went on they got darker…"
"My breaking point came when I was asked to assassinate someone. I did some research on the target, found out she had a family… On this discovery you know what my employer said? To get rid of them too, of course I refused and they just… Got someone else. I tried to save them but…I wasn't there in time."
"I became a solo agent after that, only this time I started going after my bosses, leaving the boss that wanted that family assassinated for last, even then he was… A lot tougher than I thought he'd be."
"Through sheer willpower and my determination to make this bastard pay, I managed to beat him…then I was chosen…by Chrysogladia. I became her, at the time, most recent RyuMantis, and with this new power I did something I would later become famous for, combining ice and lightning, using it to tear my boss apart."
"I dedicated this kill to that family…and I swore to do better."
"Word of his death spread rather quickly, though I suppose that'll happen when no one can agree if he was frozen or electrocuted. So I had to spend my time doing less violent work, specifically, exposing his entire criminal enterprise, to ensure no one would miss the bastard."
"People started wondering who killed him, many calling his killer a hero…and not long afterwards, I was sought out by the other Ryumushingers."
"Honestly, while it took getting used to, I… really enjoyed being part of the team, being part of something good for once."
"I kept my family out of poverty, I got to do good, and I had somewhere to belong…"
"Of course at first I was… pretty standoffish with the rest of the team, I couldn't comprehend people liking me for… me. It had to be some trick or con."
"I did warm up to em over time…my Red, my Blue, my Green, my Pink…"
"We became legends to our people. Akahane, our red who was straight forward and like a big sister to us. Rijun, our blue, high and mighty with a soft side she tried not to show. Priyani, our pink, the happy go lucky one who kept our spirits high. Hoppi, our green, the soft spoken, darkly dressed one."
…
"...Is she an emo?" Spydey asked upon hearing the description of the green ranger.
"Oh Escaballero, Green is an emo…" Scorpia facepalmed.
"That's good to know…" Spydey commented.
"Girls. Please." Weava groaned.
"Right, right," Spydey said apologetically, Weava rolling her eyes good naturedly.
"We were quite the heroes of our time, as expected of Ryumushingers. Eventually, on one of our adventures, I'd meet her…Kosetsu, a Yuki-Onna from the Yokai Empire. We fell in love and got married, family tree included and to be updated every decade."
Weava paused as she looked at the family tree. "Sweet Ariena… Okay some of these have to be grandkids, that's so many names!" The page unfolded from where Weava held it down to the floor and pooled at her feet a bit.
"Now who's getting sidetracked?" Spydey teased, elbowing her, though she couldn't help but stare in awe at the length as well.
"Hu- … Sweet Ariena, look at the year of deaths… They all died the same year…"
Spydey and Scorpia looked in shock.
"...Fuck…" Spydey cursed. "Those poor souls…does it say who killed them?"
"... All ruled accidental. Though Lunatsuki used some colorful language to describe her disapproval of that finding…" Weava said sadly.
"Wow…and apparently this also says she vanished at some point."
"Yes, it looks like Subazerra's mother went on to take over writing the biography from there. Her family was apparently on a vacation when the deaths happened."
"Jeez…" Spydey rubbed her head. "Do you think…we might've been responsible?"
"...Subazerra's mother states that Lunatsuki thought so, or at least thought we could've stopped it…" Weava stated.
Scorpia hummed. "Maybe that's why Owlio let her do her thing, no questions asked? Make up for it?"
"Maybe…" Spydey muttered. "But why would he help her do something that went against the empire, take our monster of the week? What does he get out of it…"
"Well… Maybe whatever she's planning to do involves taking out the current team?"
"Maybe…she was evidently very powerful, and with her being a ranger, could provide knowledge on how to take the current team down, at least with the basic powers."
"But why would she take down her and her teammates' successors?" Scorpia asked.
"Maybe they were in the way of whatever her current goal is?" Spydey asked.
"Then until we know what that goal is, there is no guarantee we aren't in her way too." Scorpia stated apprehensively.
"And we have some clue. It likely has something to do with revenge against the empire. Plus it needs Sealifea for some reason." Spydey pointed out.
"But why would she need a hydrokinetic if she's a cryokinetic?" Scorpia asked, confused.
"We did say she might be weakened!" Spydey realized. "She HAS been dead a long time."
"That's very possible. Niknight said she'd been resurrected for a few years but when we fought her she was relatively where she was strength wise when she died." Weava agreed.
"Ok, how is she gonna get her strength back using Sealifea?" Scorpia brought up. "She doesn't have regenerative powers…right?"
"... Sealifa can drain the powers of those submerged in her waters. Lunatsuki needs a body of her own right now, so she'd be borrowing one… If Lunatsuki froze them in water made by Sealifa then… No, the rangers wouldn't have enough power this early… But they work for HENSHIN…if they got the founders… Oh Ariena, if she got that founder…"
"What? Who?" Spydey asked.
"The people who got together the current Ryumishingers team, they're an organization founded by either immortal or "time is a construct" people. One of them… If Lunatsuki and Sealifa go after him… I worry he may just straight kill them."
"Then we have to stop em!" Spydey asserted, worriedly, yet with a determination of a queen.
"One question, how do we stop them? Sealifa we could just order to stand down, sure, but Lunatsuki was raised to deific status and is possessing one of her followers so they're likely to be more loyal to her than us." Scorpia pointed out.
"We've met Subazerra's family. We could try reaching her through that?"
"The fact the rangers, and Sealifa, are still alive means they likely haven't gone after the founder I'm worried about. We could use that, lure Lunatsuki and Sealifa in, using his energy signature." Weava suggested.
"Good idea!" Spydey praised. "Wait…" She realized. "This founder…is he that Kamen Rider? The Authorian?"
"Authorian. He's currently a Kamen Rider, yes, but he's powerful even if they catch him without his Driver."
"I'm sorry, who is he?" Scorpia asked, confused.
"I've actually heard of him. My parents had some… dealings with the Dreamers and Historians. He was like a Boogie man to them." Spydey commented.
"Authorians, a civilization themed around stories, as a whole are feared cause of their wide knowledge base and adaptive nature. This is an Authorian known for taking out other Authorians. Not in any normal way mind you, he'd just… Appear in the spaceship and five seconds later…Pop! What spaceship?" Weava explained.
"..." Scorpia blinked. "Are you saying he has the power to…?"
"On the low end he can teleport past heavy defenses designed for teleporters, on the high end he can destroy a spaceship in the blink of an eye." Spydey stated solemnly.
"We should be able to stop em before they go after the Authorian." Weava told the two. "It's not a battle they can win and our little ice 'deity' isn't in the right headspace to fight him."
"How do we lure her out though? She's giving the Rangers the run around." Scorpia asked.
"Well, she's going after Founders for power, yeah?" Spydey brought up.
"Right… Oh! The Authorian guy, like we said Lunatsuki's probably not in the headspace to realize she can't beat him, a guy that strong has to put out a lot of energy, we can replicate it!" Scorpia suggested.
"Good idea." Weava smiled. "I'm the most powerful of us three, I can be the bait."
"We should see if the lab has a way to amplify your power and alter its signature." Spydey added.
"That's also a good idea." Weava nodded.
"So we got a plan, then." Scorpia sighed in relief. "Let's try and implement it before those two get themselves killed."
Spydey put her fist out between the three of them "Spider Friends, go for it!"
Weava chuckled, finding the display cute before adding her own fist, looking towards Scorpia.
The ninja knight sighed, rolling her eyes fondly before putting her fist forward.
"Spider Friends! Let's go!" Spydey ran towards the lab excitedly. Scorpia d'awwwed, blushing, while Weava smiled, ready to get her disguise made.
"I… just realized I don't really have a job in this plan…" Scorpia facepalmed.
"You'll be our guard in case things go wrong." Weava told her, proceeding to hug her, tracing her hand along her muscular arm, giving a half lidded gaze. "Our big, strong, passionate guard~" She whispered into her ear, causing Scorpia to heat up.
"R-right!" Scorpia headed off to prep.
Weava giggled, smiling lovingly at her ladies before heading off.
