Luz was the first to wake up in the Owl House but all her shuffling and running around the house woke up Eda, King, and Varian. Eda tried to ask Luz what was wrong, but she kept avoiding her question and acted stranger around them. She handed Varian a long list of her goals, three of them were to successfully build a portal to the human realm, learn every glyph combination, and figure out what Belos was planning. Luz pulled out a new combo that she called the safety hover after she used it on Ruddiger who almost fell off a shelf. She even started working on a new door with Hooty but it's still a work in progress.
Luz even took Varian's Penstagram to talk to Hunter, her castle insider for information on Belos. Varian quickly snatched his Penstagram back from Luz; he didn't want Luz to see all his messages to Hunter. Eda pointed out to Luz that she was trying to avoid something. Luz stated that she wasn't, but she knew that she couldn't lie to Eda. Luz told Eda, King, and Varian that today was special for her and her mom. They have a ritual they do; she didn't want to talk about it, but she only told them that she missed her mom. King figured that she could use a nice healthy distraction to take her mind off her mom. Luz agreed and told Eda that she could go for a griffin egg.
Eda and King went into the kitchen to cook breakfast, while Varian stayed with Luz. Just then Amity walked in claiming that she had a problem and that it could distract them all day. Luz dragged Amity to the couch "Tell me all about it and don't spare a single detail." Luz said, excitedly.
Amity began to tell Luz and Varian about how she wanted to participate in the Bonesborough Brawl tonight and win the champion belt. However, when she asked her dad if he could take her, he said no and told her that she'd be going to the emperor coven tryouts since her mother signed her up for it. Alador had already prepared an abomination as a chaperone to make sure that she got there. She tried to tell Alador that she didn't even want to go to coven tryouts, she wanted to enter the Brawl and win the belt just like Alador did. But he didn't even listen to her and just shooed her off with the abomination.
Amity didn't even want to join a coven anymore; she even tried to disguise the abomination because she was so embarrassed by it. But it looked like it had gotten dressed in Eda's closet. "If I may ask, why is the Brawl so important to you?" Varian asked.
"The Bonesborough Brawl was the one cool thing my dad did before joining the Abomination coven. It would've been nice to share something with him." Amity stated.
She then pulled out a picture of her dad when he won the belt, standing beside him was Darius who was holding Alador's hand and smiling. Amity also heard that Darius was going to be at the Brawl, and she thought this would also be a chance to ask him about what happened between him and her dad. Luz already had the perfect idea; Amity ditches the tryouts and enters the brawl without her dad knowing. Amity and Varian figured Luz would take the chaotic route. Plus, this could be Amity's way of telling her dad that she doesn't want to join a coven anymore. Eda overheard Luz's plan; she loved going to the Brawl and it would make Amity get the abomination out of her house.
Amity agreed to give it a shot; she used a spell to make her voice sound like Alador's and ordered the abomination to fetch her a rare and difficult-to-find emerald dagger. The abomination bought Amity's trick and left the house. "That'll keep him busy," Eda stated.
Amity reminded them that her dad cannot find out that she ditched tryouts, at least not until she wins that belt. Luz told her that she knew some people that could help. She, Varian, and Eda quickly got dressed and then headed down to the brawl with King and Amity. Her older siblings, Edric and Emira came to help at the brawl. "We're proud of you, sis," Emira said.
"Yeah, you're becoming more of a delinquent every day." Edric finished.
Emira asked her brother to give Amity his concealment stone, but he denied that he had taken one. The two started to wrestle until Emira found the concealment stone hidden under Edric's sleeve. She took it off revealing what Edric really looked like, he had rectangular glasses on his face, a headband that pushed his hair back and he was wearing a yellow shirt. Emira even gave up her stone to give Amity a little extra flair. Her braid hair was undone and messy and her face was covered in pimples. Amity clicked the stone together then it gave her a new look, she wore a cute dress, gold earrings, pink sunglasses, and a little pink vial on her side filled with abomination goo; her hair was in a tight bun.
Luz couldn't help but pick Amity up and twirl her in the air telling her that she looked so pretty, the two laughed and blushed. That was when King spotted someone familiar, he showed Eda who it was, Warden Wrath who was now the reigning Brawl champion. This meant Eda could get some information from Wrath about what Belos was planning and why Raine was acting weird at the parade. She walked up to Wrath who didn't look happy to see her and King. "Been training since my student humiliated you in battle? Twice?" Eda reminded Wrath.
Wrath let out a growl, but Eda just stayed chill. She tried to ask him if he had heard anything about the Day of Unity. He laughed and refused to tell her anything. "Why should I help you?" Wrath asked.
Just then, Eda grabbed him by the shirt, "After chopping off my head..."
"Stealing my crown..." King interrupted.
"And imprisoning my student/child, I think you owe me." Eda pointed out.
Her hand shifted into her harpy claw ready to attack him. Wrath snapped his fingers then two security guards stopped her from attacking Wrath and reminded her not to fight outside the ring. Eda let him go and walked away without a struggle. King was shocked that Eda had given up so quickly, but she had other plans. She pulled out a book of potions from her hair and turned to the page with the Blabber Serum. She was busy looking in the book when she bumped into someone, she looked up to apologize but her expression changed when she saw who it was, Darius.
She still had a grudge against him after what happened with Raine. Darius stated that he wasn't here as a Coven Head, he just came to watch the Brawl. Eda decided to let him go just this once. Darius got a spot close to the stage while Luz and the others hung in the back. The announcer came onto the stage to welcome everyone to the Bonesborough Brawl, the audience cheered and clapped. The announcer went on to explain the rules; contestants will fight one-on-one for the ultimate bragging rights as the toughest dueler on the Isles. The last fighter standing will get the chance to snag the Brawler's belt from Warden Wrath.
The first round with Scab the All-Knowing, an oracle fighter versus Amity who was known as the Mighty Mittens. She waved back to her siblings, Varian, and Luz who were blowing her kisses. The brawl began; either one holding back but Amity was stronger and gave Scab a run for his money. Luz watched Amity fight and knew that Amity had gotten this in the bag. Her phone suddenly buzzed in her pocket, she pulled it out and saw a notification that made her sweat. She quickly hit the ignore button before anyone could see it. Emira and Edric noticed Luz was acting strange, but Luz made up a quick lie that there was another part of the plan.
"Amity's gonna kick butt, like, for sure, but if I was fighting too, she could get to the belt faster. So, I'm also gonna sign up for the Bonesborough Brawl!" Luz stated.
After the fight ended with Amity being the winner, she joined up with the others. Luz told her that she was gonna be in the Brawl as well. "Wait, how is this supposed to help me?" Amity asked.
"Think of it like tag teaming a tournament! If I'm taking out contestants too, you have fewer people to worry about. More chances to win that belt!" Luz explained.
Amity looked a little worried about Luz, she remembered that Eda told her that today was a special day for Luz. Luz told her that it was nothing to worry about or worth talking about. She just wanted to help her girlfriend out and she didn't want Amity to have all the fun. Emira wanted to help as well, she knew a couple of healing spells just in case they got injured. Edric wanted to help too but Emira figured that he could just cheer on the sidelines. The girls ran back to the brawl while Edric decided to take a walk, and Varian decided to follow him. Varian felt a little bad for Edric, he just wanted to help but he felt like he couldn't get anything right.
Just then, Ruddiger jumped down from Varian's shoulder when he saw berries lying down on the ground. He grabbed a few berries then a rope wrapped around Ruddiger's tail which freaked him out. Eda and King popped out of the bush, groaning. "Thanks a lot! That was for the Skin Badgers! We need their dandruff." Eda shouted.
Varian got the rope off Ruddiger's tail and apologized, he told Ruddiger not to take food that was lying on the ground that could be a trap. Edric told Eda that Skin Badgers eat shushrooms, not goreberries and Eda's need a fortified rope since they are strong. Eda was stunned that Edric knew beast-keeping magic; Edric confessed that he knew a little bit as a hobby. That was when Eda got an idea; she told Edric and Varian that she was making a Blabber Serum to get information out of Wrath but without magic, she was having trouble getting some of the livelier ingredients. With Edric's beastkeeping know-how and Varian's alchemy could help her and King.
Edric thought about it for a second then he agreed to help Eda. "Dang! I didn't even have to offer to pay." Eda said.
While Varian and Edric were helping Eda, the brawl continued with Luz as the Spell raiser versus the Flexicutioner. Her entrance had Amity blushing up a storm. Luz and Amity went back-to-back against their challengers and won each round. Edric used an illusion to trick a skin Badger and then trapped it so King could snag some dandruff from it. Varian used some of his alchemy balls to catch a fairy for their spit. Emira was on the sidelines healing Amity from her last round while Luz battled an elderly woman who was a little easy to stop when Luz cooled her down with an ice glyph.
After they had gathered all the ingredients, Eda started to mix together the serum. "So, the Blabber Serum should get your ex to tell you about your other ex?" Edric asked.
"Hold on, you and Wrath were together?" Varian asked Eda, who looked annoyed.
"Warden Wrath is not my...! King, can you stop telling people that?" Eda shouted.
King couldn't help but laugh at Eda's reaction every time he mentioned Wrath having a crush on her. She didn't tell Edric much about her plan, but she did mention that Wrath might have a clue about what the Day of Unity was about. She ordered Edric to keep stirring while she went to get more firewood for the fire. Edric liked being taken seriously for once, so he wasn't going to let Eda down. Varian told Edric that he was just going to check on Luz and Amity for a bit. He spotted Amity and Luz with Ermia getting their wounds healed. Varian approached them and asked Luz how things were going. Luz told him that Amity would be going up against Wrath in the next round.
Amity was startled when she saw Darius walking towards them. Darius was impressed with Amity's skills, he told her that she had a good chance of winning the belt. Amity squealed with delight; she shook it off quickly and then decided to ask Darius the big question. She showed Darius the photo of when Alador won the Brawl and then she asked him about what happened between the two. Luz decided to take a walk to clear her head after hearing her phone buzz again. Varian did tell Amity about her dad and Alador before all this started but none of them knew why they suddenly hated each other.
"It is true that Alador and I were a couple back in school. But his parents didn't approve of our relationship. So, we faked breaking up to get Alador's parents off our backs and we continued to date in secret. Alador told me that his parents had arranged for him to marry Odalia, but he didn't want to marry her. So, I asked Alador to marry me." Darius explained.
"But I don't get it. Why would my grandparents disapprove of you being with my dad?" Amity asked.
"You know the Blights care about their social status. And I wasn't from a rich family so according to them, being with anyone below their standards is a crime." Darius answered.
Amity and Varian felt really bad for Darius; Amity would have liked to have Darius as her other parent instead of Odalia. Odalia made her cut ties with Willow, she made Ed and Em wear concealment stones to hide their true looks, and worst of it all, Alador just went along with it all. Amity heard something then she, Darius, Emira, and Varian ran to find Luz with the abomination. It actually found an emerald dagger and had found Amity at the Brawl. She told Luz that her dad filled it with alarms and then asked if she touched it. She said that she didn't, but Varian could tell that she was lying.
The time came for the final round of the Brawl, Warden Wrath versus Amity, The Mighty Mittens. Just as the Brawl was about to begin, a giant mess of abomination goo suddenly appeared on stage and on top with Alador who was angry. "This child forfeits the match," he stated.
Amity stared at her dad in horror; that meant she couldn't win the belt. Alador followed the abomaton's signal after the alarm went off which led him here and discovered that Amity had ditched the coven tryouts. She looked back at Luz who was looking guilty after she had messed with the abomaton in the first place. Amity kept asking Luz what was going on with her today but Luz stated that it was nothing. Wrath got annoyed that the fight wasn't happening so he decided to do a surprise attack on Amity. Just then, Darius used his magic to pin Wrath down in abomination goo.
Alador stared at Darius then he marched over towards him. "Did you put my daughter up to this?!" he shouted.
"Hello to you too, Alador. And no, I didn't. She was actually doing great in the Brawl and would have won if you hadn't interfered. From what I understand, you forced her to go to the coven tryouts when she didn't even want to." Darius calmly spoke.
Alador's face turned red from anger. "Don't you start with me! I know what's best for my daughter! And maybe we can get her signed up for the tryouts next year."
Amity tried to speak to her father, but he just pushed her aside and told her to round up Emira and Edric. "You are not the man I fell in love with. Odalia has changed you. You were never this heartless, then again you did leave me for her after our child, Amity was born." Darius stated.
Amity's face went pale; she had been lied to her whole life; Darius was her second father. She couldn't breathe; she grabbed one of Luz's invisibility glyphs and then used it to help her hide. Luz and Varian ran after Amity to talk to her. They searched and searched until Luz spotted Amity sitting under the tree from the Grom. Luz asked Amity if she was ok after learning about Darius being her second father. She confessed that it was just so shocking to learn that she wasn't Odalia's child; a small part of her was revealed. But she was more concerned about Luz and the way she was acting. Amity asked if it was something to do with the Human Realm and even Varian wondered the same thing.
Luz finally decided to tell them what's really been going on; even though she didn't like talking about it since it happened a long time ago. She handed Amity her phone which had the event reminder, it said anniversary at Graves Field Graveyard. "Today's the anniversary of my dad passing away," Luz confessed.
Amity and Varian felt bad for Luz, now they understood why she was acting so strange all day. "He always brought us flowers on our birthdays, so after he passed away, we started picking flowers for each other. And then we'd visit his grave, and me and my mom would spend the day together. It's nice. But this year, I'm not with her, and I don't have any flowers. And when you told me about the problem with your dad..." Luz explained.
"You thought you could use it as a distraction from today." Varian finished.
They suddenly heard screams coming from the Brawl; Amity promised Luz that after they dealt with that she'd help pick some flowers and they could do something here. They ran towards the Brawl to find Wrath had turned into some kind of mutated monster. Edric added firebee honey to the Blabber Serum and it mutated the potion. Eda transformed into her Harpy form to try and fight Wrath, but he was too strong and sent her flying into the forest. Alador tried to hold Wrath down with the abomaton but he just flung it away like it was a toy. Amity showed up and tried to help but Alador just pushed her to the sidelines.
Darius shifted into his abomination form and tried holding Wrath down. Eda flew back towards the kids and told them that they needed to turn Wrath back to normal. Edric figured that if the heat from the firebee honey caused the potion to mutate then something cold could reverse the effects. Varian shouted that they didn't have time to make a new potion. Luz told them that they didn't need a potion, she was gonna use her glyphs. Eda picked her up and they flew into the air. Wrath flung Darius to the ground; he would have stomped on him if Alador hadn't stepped in and used his abomination to stop Wrath.
Alador was struggling to hold it together, but Amity summoned her own abomination to help her dad. Alador tried to push Amity to the sideline, but she stopped him. "I'm making my own choices from now on," she stated.
Darius, Alador, and Amity combine their abomination magic and together they manage to hold Wrath down long enough for Luz to activate her ice glyphs creating a huge pile of snow that landed on Wrath. He was turned back to normal, but he didn't give Eda much information; just that the Day of Unity is supposedly going to unite them with the Titan. Only some believe that this "new world" the emperor talks about will be very inviting to magic kind; wild or not. Eda was actually impressed with Edric's new horrifying transformation serum. With some not-so-pretty side effects.
"Illusions, beastkeeping, and potion magic? Keep it up, kid. You got a future in wild magic." Eda said to Edric as she gave him a Bad Girl Coven shirt.
Amity finally told her dad that she didn't want to join the emperor's coven, but Alador was confused saying that it was always her dream. "No, that's Odalia's dream! And you just went along with it. You barely talk to us! You're too busy making these monsters for the emperor and Odalia's busy trying to dye my hair green. Why did you lie? Why didn't you tell me that I'm Darius's daughter? Why did you leave him for that monster?!" Amity desperately asked.
Even Darius wanted to know why Alador did what he did. Alador finally confessed to Darius that he was doing it to protect him and his children. Odalia found out that Alador and Darius were still together and even married. She threatened to harm the twins and make Darius suffer; even getting him banned from the coven so he couldn't be a Coven Head. Amity and Darius couldn't believe what they were hearing, Odalia was truly evil. Alador pulled something out of his pocket that surprised Darius, a wedding ring. "You... You kept that?" Darius asked in shock.
"I never loved Odalia. I only loved you, Darius. It broke my heart doing that to you. I can't take back everything I've done to you, but I can make things right." Alador stated.
Darius had a few small tears in his eyes and told Alador that he was willing to give him a second chance, but he was gonna have to work to make him fall in love with him again. Amity slowly forgave her dad and she wanted to get to know Darius. Darius even complimented on her hair saying that it almost matched his. Amity and Varian went with Luz to pick flowers thanks to her plant glyph. Varian made a lantern then Amity tied the flowers to the lantern then Luz let it go into the night sky.
