This OC insert starts with the first episode of Transformers: Prime. If would help to see it before reading, but you don't need to.
I don't own Transformers. I only can claim the OC, Wren.
Chapter One: Rising Darkness Part One
I drive my truck with Raf, my little cousin, sitting in the front seat with his remote-control car.
"Thanks for coming with me, Wren." He says.
"Anytime." I smile with my eyes on the road. "It's nice to get away from the moms and the unpacking." I snort.
"Yeah, your mom and my mom were bossing everyone around." He laughed. My mom and his mom were twin sisters, so they couldn't really get far with bossing each other around when they were kids.
"How do ya live with her?" I ask as I stop my pickup truck at a light. It's a standard Ford F-150.
"How was moving?" He asks, changing the subject. I eyeball some cows grazing on the other side of a fence and think 'Steak!'.
"The drive was long, but it was fine." I deflect the question.
"That wasn't what I meant." Raf said quietly. "Do you like Jasper?"
"I mean, it's…" I didn't want to shatter his world by saying the last town we lived in was bigger than Jasper and even that town was considered a small town, but I don't. "It's great, yeah."
Who was I kidding? I parked the truck and got out. Once my cousin hopped out, I locked the doors. He raced to the truck bed where I tossed in a few boxes to use as jumps for his car. We had plenty of those sitting around after the move, I thought bitterly. Then I reminded myself: It's a new adventure, I shouldn't be so quick to think this was gonna stink. I lower the tailgate and pull them off the truck. He runs to set them up and I smile to myself and think for a moment that even though I wasn't super happy about the move, I should make the most of it and try to get closer to my aunt, uncle and cousins that I haven't seen in a while.
After we raced his remote-control cars for about ten minutes, Raf gets a call.
"Hey mom. I'm racing my cars with Wren, and we're right up the street." He paused. "Yeah, just five more minutes please? Thanks mom."
He hung up.
"The moms want us back for dinner in five minutes." He said.
"Yeah, I figured they would want us back soon."
I heard an engine the second before a motorcycle sailed over our heads. I pulled Raf close and shielded him from the rain for dust and pebbles. A boy was on it, screaming his head off.
"Oh my gosh!" I exclaim.
"Woah!" Raf drops the remote.
"You have no idea." The boy on the motorcycle gasps between breaths. He looks a couple of years older than me. He gets off as two more engines sound off and two pairs of headlights flash from above the hill. The motorcycle rolls forward. It starts to slide apart until a bipedal robot with glowing blue eyes stare down the other cars which also transform.
"This ends here, cons." She says with conviction. And then the robots start fighting.
"What are those?!" Raf asks.
"Talking cars that turn into robots… or the other way around." The boy says.
The blue robot does some crazy gymnastic stuff. But then she gets hit in the chest by a blast.
A yellow muscle car guns it and flies off the edge of the canal to land inside. It transforms too.
What is going on?!
And then the yellow one steps on Raf's rc car. :I'm sorry!:
"It's ok, really." Raf responds. The bot gets blast in the chest. The purple ones push him around and one of them plants a metal foot on the yellow one's chest.
"Leave him alone!" Raf cries.
Then those massive guns get pointed in our direction.
"Bad call." The stranger with us says.
"Raf!" I hiss.
The big angry purple robot starts to chase us. I grab Raf's hand and drag him to a big open pipe. We both get in to avoid the laser fire. There's sounds of metal hitting metal, heavy fire and more fighting. I hug Raf close and close my eyes, praying that we might survive this.
:It's ok! You're safe now!: I open my eyes and turn to see the yellow robot from before.
"Thank you!" Raf exclaims.
:Just doing my job, You three should go to be safe.: Comes the response.
"Don't look back!"
"What did we just see?" Raf squeaks.
"No idea, and I'm not sure I wanna find out." The teen says.
"Me neither!"
Eventually, we part ways, but not before introducing ourselves. The walk back was silent. So is the drive back to my house. Raf and I don't have much to say.
That night, I stare at a new ceiling, mulling over starting at a new school, at the same time of thinking about those robots.
I don't get far in my thoughts since I fall asleep.
The next day at school, I sit next to a spunky girl named Miko.
"Hey!" She whispered. "You're the new girl, right? Wren?"
"Yeah, I'm Wren." I nod.
"Like the bird?" She grins.
"Not the bird, Miko!" I roll my eyes.
"Hey, would you like me to show you around today? See how the school works and all?"
"That'd be great!" I brighten. I might just find my feet here after all.
The rest of the school day is… well, its school. I find Raf in the lobby after classes let out and we walk outside. Raf waves to Jack and he walks over.
"Raf, Wren, hey." He says. "Let's just keep this between us and forget this ever happened, ok?"
A beep of a horn sounds behind us, and we all turn and gasp.
The yellow muscle car from yesterday!
"Jack!" I exclaim.
"Oh, not again!"
The door opened. :I have some explaining to do, Raf Esquivel and Wren Solace.:
"He wants us to get in?"
"No, just me and Wren." Raf says.
"How do you know that?" Jack asked.
"He said so." I cocked my head.
"What!"
"Yours is over there." Raf pointed to a blue motorcycle.
"I really don't think…" He says, but I'm hardly paying attention as we both get in.
"Raf! Wren!" He exclaims before the yellow car closes the door and speeds off.
And the drive consists of lots of questions.
"Why do we have to come with you?" I ask.
:Because the two of you are few of the only humans that know we exist.:
"Who were the other robots?" Raf asks.
:Enemies who wish to take over earth and destroy your race. The questions you have can be answered by my leader, Optimus.:
"What's your name?" I ask.
:Call me Bumblebee.:
"Bumblebee it is." I nod with a smirk.
I hear joyful shouting and turn in the set to see Jack and Miko on the motorcycle.
Bumblebee drives toward a plateau.
"Solid rock wall! Solid rock wall!" I scream and grab the steering wheel.
Massive sliding doors open before our eyes. I gasp as he pulls through a hallway and into a massive missile silo.
"Wow." I say breathlessly.
"Cool!" Raf says with widen eyes.
We get out of the car and the two vehicles turn into robots.
"I thought there were three." A red and white robot mutters.
"Haven't you heard, humans multiply."
"I'm Raf,"
"Hey Miko." I say to her as she runs away.
"Hey Wren," She says over her shoulder before racing up to a big green 'bot. "Who are you!"
"Bulkhead."
"Oh!" She gasps. "I bet you're a car. A truck, a monster truck! Do you like heavy metal? How much do you weigh? Ever use wrecking ball for a punching bag?"
I got bombarded with questions too from Miko earlier. Obviously different, but a bunch of questions none-the-less.
"You guys are robots, so who made you?"
"Puh-lease!" The red and white one scoffs, and cringes.
"Jasper just got way cooler." I grin. I must be grinning like an idiot.
Heavy footsteps approach behind us. I turn to see a tall robot. This one has a regal essence, and he carried himself like a leader, but not like he was a gift to the world, like a leader with humility to accept his mistakes but strength to lead those under him.
"We are autonomous robotic organisms from the planet Cybertron, also known as autobots."
"Woah…" I whisper.
So, the robots are aliens. And aliens are real. Yeah, none of my theories I made last night were right. And yesterday wasn't just some fever dream. And my whole life is actually getting dumped upside down- moreso than it was, considering the move and all.
"Why are you here?" Jack asks.
"To protect your planet from the decepticons."
"The jokers who tried to bump us off the road last night." The blue one supplies.
"Okayyy, why are they here?" Jack asks.
"A fair question, Jack. In part, they are here because our planet is uninhabitable, ravaged by centuries of civil war." He knelt down to be eye-level with us.
"Why is, or was, or whatever, a war?" I ask, stumbling over my words.
"Foremost, over control over our world's supply of energon. The fuel and lifeblood for all autobots and decepticons alike. The combat was fierce and endured for centuries. In the beginning, I fought alongside one who I considered a brother, but in war, Ideals can be corrupted and it was thus that Megatron lost his way."
"Uhh, is there gonna be a quiz?"
"That's rude, Miks," I elbow her in the ribs and give her a nickname on the fly.
"What does Megatron or any of this have to do with us?" Jack asks.
"Megatron has not been seen or heard from in some time, if his return is eminent as I fear, his return could be catastrophic."
