Chapter 2: Draconic Unity
5 years later…
Five long years of rigorous training had passed for the now 13-year-old Issei Hyoudou. In that time, he had advanced at an almost alarming rate, his progress nothing short of extraordinary. To Ddraig's great approval, training and teaching a child proved to be far easier than instructing a teenager or an adult. This made Issei a much more adept and efficient learner compared to Ddraig's previous hosts.
Ddraig had grown quite fond of his young host, despite only having known him for five years. During their time together, Ddraig imparted extensive knowledge to Issei about the world's various mythologies and the dangerous beings that inhabited them. He trained Issei in the proper use of the Boosted Gear, and to his amazement, Issei had not only fully mastered Balance Breaker but could also activate his Juggernaut Drive. Unfortunately, proficiency in the latter remained out of reach, as training with the Juggernaut Drive was impossible without causing widespread destruction and drawing unwanted attention.
He and Ddraig had been locked in debate for months, tirelessly discussing how to tackle their formidable problem. Then, one day, inspiration struck Issei. Perched on the edge of a towering high-rise building, the brown-haired boy gazed over the cityscape and said, "I think I know where I can train the Juggernaut Drive, Ddraig."
Ddraig, his ever-loyal companion, responded with curiosity, "Really? What do you have in mind?"
Issei's eyes lit up with determination as he explained, "Do you remember that place you told me about, where the Great Red Dragon resides? The Dimensional Gap? I was thinking we could go there. It's isolated from Earth, Heaven, and Hell. It would be the perfect place to practice without having to hold back my power."
Ddraig let out a low grunt of disapproval. "That is not a good idea. The Dimensional Gap is a realm of chaos and entropy. It would tear you apart without any protection. Not to mention, we are no match for the Dragon of Dragons. If he sees you in there, he'll kill you."
"Why would he kill us? We're both dragons, aren't we? And if he can fly around in there, why can't I? Are you saying there's no way I can navigate through safely?" Issei questioned, his curiosity piqued.
Ddraig sighed, the sound heavy with caution. "Well…it theoretically could be done, but it would take a great deal of effort to even enter the Dimensional Gap, let alone resist its entropy for long periods. It's a dangerous place, Issei. The chaotic energy could overwhelm you before you have a chance to train."
"Don't you think that would be a great place to train? If my body is constantly fighting to stay intact, I could really test the limits of my boosting. Plus, it would be a good way to spend my after-school hours, you know?" Issei said eagerly.
Ddraig chuckled, the sound resonating with a mix of amusement and concern. "I admire your enthusiasm, Issei, but getting there would be the most difficult part. There are only a few ways we can do it. The most obvious one would be finding Ophis and convincing her to take us there. However, I would rather avoid that option, as it risks revealing the return of the Red Dragon Emperor prematurely. The only benefit is that Ophis could protect you from Great Red if you encounter him within the Dimensional Gap."
"Ophis should be our last option, then. What are the other routes we could take? I'm surprised you weren't able to enter the Dimensional Gap yourself. Is there any reason why I can't?" Issei asked, curiosity and determination shining in his eyes.
"It's not that simple," Ddraig explained. "The Dimensional Gap is a unique space, unlike any other. Technically I could pass into it, but it required a great deal of power. If you wished to do so without causing a lot of destruction, then you would need to refine your power into a proper ability to penetrate the veil of this world. Obviously, that would require more training. The only other options are to go through Ophis or seek out a weapon that can cut through space and time. Both of which would only draw unwanted attention," he sighed.
"This might be off-topic, but how long do I have to keep my powers a secret? I find it strange that nobody has noticed me yet. Is all of this sneaking around really necessary?" Issei asked, his voice tinged with curiosity and a hint of frustration.
"I am taking special precautions with you, boy," Ddraig responded, his tone solemn and weighty. "The various factions always have a way of tracking down dragon hosts early in their lives. Many become their allies or lackeys. I have seen it countless times, and it only serves to annoy me. You should reveal yourself when the time is right. For when you do…the white one will seek you out. Enjoy this peace of yours while it lasts. It's the only semblance of a peaceful life you'll ever have," the dragon said authoritatively, his words carrying a foreboding weight.
"Well, let's get to training then…I'll figure out a way to tear open a rift into the Dimensional Gap," Issei said, his determination unwavering as he stood up eagerly, ready to embark on this daunting yet crucial journey.
Several weeks later
Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Boost, Transfer!" Ddraig announced as Issei condensed a great deal of boosted power into the very tip of his gauntlet's claw.
With a precise, swift swing, Issei finally succeeded in cutting a rift into the Dimensional Gap using the heavily condensed power at his claw's tip.
"Finally!" he shouted in triumph, his voice echoing with joy as he activated his Balance Breaker and flew into the opening before it could close.
"Impressive, boy... I never thought you would be able to do it with such little power," Ddraig said approvingly as Issei entered the Dimensional Gap.
"Well, like you said, the opening required a ton of power to tear it open. But I figured if I concentrated a lot of energy into one tiny area, it would eventually become so dense that it would have no choice but to tear open. It took a lot of effort to focus it on just one claw, though. Thankfully, it finally worked," Issei explained, detailing the cause of his success.
Inside the Dimensional Gap, he could feel the chaotic energy swirling around him, testing his limits. Yet, the thrill of his achievement and the challenge ahead only fueled his determination further.
"Woah…this place looks weird. Nothing like I imagined," Issei said, gazing around the chaotic realm with awe and wonder. The swirling colors and distorted space created a surreal, almost dreamlike atmosphere.
"You should be able to practice your full Juggernaut Drive here without fear of being noticed," Ddraig advised. "But don't push yourself too far, or this place will tear your body apart. I suggest you only stay for a few hours at a time."
"I can't wait to finally do this!" Issei exclaimed eagerly. As he began his transformation into the full Juggernaut Drive, his emotions flared, and he felt a surge of exhilaration. His power intensified, radiating outward as he unleashed his energy in every direction, reveling in the freedom to fully test his limits.
The chaotic energies of the Dimensional Gap swirled around him, amplifying his power and providing the perfect battleground for his training. Despite the potential dangers, Issei's excitement and determination drove him to embrace the challenge, ready to push himself further than ever before.
1 Week Later
The past week had proven to be an incredibly effective training regimen for the Sekiryuutei. Issei had been consistently entering the Dimensional Gap after school and staying there for hours at a time. A couple of times, he even stayed all night, much to his parents' concern. Granted, they had become accustomed to his frequent absences these days.
The more time Issei spent in the Dimensional Gap, the more he grew to love the place for the sheer amount of solitude and freedom it provided. The chaotic, boundless realm allowed him to push his limits without restraint, offering a sanctuary where he could train without fear of being discovered or interrupted.
As the days passed, Issei felt his powers growing stronger. The solitude of the Dimensional Gap became a cherished space where he could focus entirely on mastering his Juggernaut Drive. Despite the potential dangers, the sense of freedom and the opportunity to hone his abilities made every moment spent in the chaotic realm worthwhile.
Now on his seventh day of training, Issei was adamantly working to perfect his Longinus Smasher, following Ddraig's suggestion. After several hours of relentless effort, he finally managed to fire the overpowering blast into the distance. Just as the colossal energy beam erupted from his hands, a rift suddenly opened up in front of his attack.
Issei and Ddraig could only stand frozen, their blood running cold, as the Longinus Smasher unleashed a gargantuan green beam, its light splitting the sky as it hurtled toward the gaping rift. From within the churning void, a titanic red dragon, easily over a hundred meters in length, emerged with an aura of overwhelming power. The beast was nothing short of awe-inspiring, with four massive wings that stretched wide, each stroke pushing the air with a force that shook the earth beneath. It was the embodiment of a western dragon from legend, its scales gleaming like molten rubies in the eerie light.
The dragon's golden eyes blazed with an otherworldly intensity, a terrifying focus that sent a shiver down Issei's spine. With a swift, almost impossible agility for a creature of its size, it performed a perfect barrel roll, narrowly evading the destructive green beam. The maneuver was so precise, so effortless, that it left Issei slack-jawed in disbelief. As the monstrous red dragon roared past him, the sound was a deep, resonant vrooming shriek that reverberated through his very bones, a cry that spoke of ancient power and unyielding dominance.
Great Red, as the dragon was known, began to circle Issei, its immense form creating a whirlwind of turbulence in its wake. Each beat of its wings was like the crack of thunder, and its eyes, those burning golden orbs, locked onto Issei with a penetrating gaze. It was as if the dragon could see into his very soul, weighing him against some unfathomable standard as he stood there, frozen in his juggernaut drive. The dimension was thick with tension, and the world seemed to hold its breath as the two faced each other, the enormity of the moment hanging between them like a storm about to break.
"Ddraig, what the hell do we do?" Issei's voice was laced with tension, his usually confident demeanor crumbling as the colossal dragon began to snarl, its deep, rumbling vroom echoing through the air like the growl of a living thunderstorm
"What the fuck are you staring at?!" Great Red's voice boomed, cutting through the noise like a whip crack. The dragon swooped down, circling around to face Issei directly, its enormous form casting a shadow that seemed to swallow him whole. Its golden eyes bore into him with a stoic, unyielding glare, the weight of its gaze making Issei feel smaller than ever. Intimidated didn't even begin to cover it—Issei was frozen, his mind racing, yet blank all at once, as he faced the sheer magnitude of the Great Red Dragon of Dragons.
Words failed him, his throat tight with a fear he hadn't known he could feel. But just as the silence stretched into something unbearable, Ddraig's voice luckily spoke, calm yet firm. "We were just training, Great Red. Forgive my partner for getting in your way."
There was a brief pause, the tension thick in the air, before Great Red let out a low, rumbling laugh that was anything but warm. "Ddraig, huh? Now I recognize you… I thought I made it clear last time—we ain't friends just because we're both red dragons." His tone shifted, becoming cold, almost mocking. " Get out of here unless you have a death wish! This is my turf!" The dragon's voice dropped into a low, delinquent tone that carried a threat as ancient and primal as the creature itself.
To Issei, the dragon's demeanor was eerily reminiscent of a Bosozoku biker, rough around the edges and brimming with rebellious energy, which struck him as oddly fitting yet bizarre for a mythical creature of legend. It was an unusual contrast that made the situation all the more surreal.
"We'll leave, Great Red," Ddraig announced, his voice tinged with a noticeable relief. The tension between them and the colossal dragon was palpable, and Issei could feel the weight of Ddraig's concern pressing down on him.
"Not so fast…what are you even doing here? I don't like shady business," the dragon grunted, suspicion lacing his tone. His massive form loomed even larger as he narrowed his golden eyes, scrutinizing them both with an intensity that made Issei's pulse quicken.
"We were training, Great Red," Issei began, his voice steadying as he forced himself to meet the dragon's gaze . "I was doing it here to keep my identity as the Red Dragon Emperor a secret." The words came out clear, but Issei could feel the sweat forming on his brow. He was acutely aware that one wrong move could spell disaster.
The dragon's eyes flashed, and he snorted, a sound like a distant explosion. "Just call me Red… none of that 'Great Red, God-Emperor' or 'Dragon of Dragons' bullshit. I'm not some great messiah for you little whelps to gawk at!" The way he spat out the titles was both threatening and dismissive, like he had heard them too many times and had grown tired of the reverence they carried.
Issei nodded quickly, sensing the need to tread carefully. "Alright, Red, no disrespect," he said, choosing his words with care. "But Ddraig and I need this place to train in secret. I honestly never expected to see you here. I thought this place was infinite."
Red let out a low growl that reverberated through the air, and Issei felt it deep in his bones, like the rumble of an impending earthquake. But then, to Issei's surprise, the dragon's expression softened, his intense glare giving way to a glint of amusement. It was as if Issei's audacity had struck a chord with the ancient beast. "Infinite, huh? Maybe, but it's still my turf," Red rumbled, his voice carrying a mix of warning and intrigue.
"Hmph… so you're training here to avoid being discovered by the angels, devils, and gods?" Red asked, his massive head tilting slightly as he scrutinized Issei with renewed interest.
Issei nodded, his resolve firming as he answered. "Yeah, that's right. I want to keep my powers a secret, so they can't bother me or interfere with my life until I'm more powerful. When the White Dragon finally shows up, I want to be so much stronger than him that I utterly crush him and everyone else. After that, I just want to live my life without anyone bothering me or telling me what to do… maybe pick up a few girls along the way too."
For a moment, there was silence. Then, Red started laughing—a deep, booming sound that shook the very plane around them, causing Issei to tense up. But it wasn't a laugh of derision; it was one of genuine amusement, a hearty, almost gleeful sound that made the dragon seem less menacing, if only for a moment. "Ahahaha! Now that's a pretty good reason for training here," Red chuckled, his mood visibly lightening. "I wasn't expecting that. You don't want to rule the world or destroy it? You just want to be free and unstoppable. I like you, kid. You're just like me."
Issei, sensing the shift in Red's demeanor, decided to play along with the compliment, knowing full well what kind of personality he was dealing with. "Yeah, that's pretty much all I've ever wanted," he admitted with a shrug. "I don't care much for all this drama between mythical factions. I'm glad that Ddraig encouraged me not to get involved with any of it yet. I just want to be strong enough that nobody ever fucks with me."
Red let out a satisfied grunt, his enormous wings stretching as he relaxed a little more. "A simple goal, but a damn good one," he said approvingly. "You keep that mindset, kid. Power's worth nothing if you're not free to use it how you want." Red said, a hint of approval in his voice. "You and Ddraig are free to hang out here, then. Train hard, kid, and stay out of my way if you see me coming." The dragon let out a chuckle, his colossal form beginning to turn as if the conversation were over, his interest already waning.
But Issei saw an opportunity slipping away and wasn't about to let it go without a fight. "Wait!" he called out, his voice urgent yet respectful. "I don't want to bother you or anything, but is it cool if we hang out with you in here?"
Red paused mid-turn, his massive head swiveling back to fix Issei with a piercing gaze. "I fly alone. Why do you want to come with me anyway?" His voice was strong, carrying an edge that made it clear he wasn't used to company and didn't particularly care for it.
Issei, undeterred, pressed on. "I know you're a badass outlaw and all that good stuff, but I just thought it'd be cool to train with the strongest dragon in the universe," he suggested, trying to strike a balance between admiration and boldness.
Red's eyes narrowed, his demeanor growing more serious. "You're pushing it, kid… I don't have time for that," he said, his tone disapproving, as if the very idea of a training partner was beneath him.
Issei frowned beneath his armor, disappointment flickering through him. But he wasn't ready to give up just yet. "Too bad…" he muttered, more to himself than to Red. "I was thinking we could make a dragon gang or something."
Red snorted, a sound somewhere between amusement and disdain. He even seemed to consider the idea. "A dragon gang, huh? You've got guts, I'll give you that. I don't think I've ever heard that before," Great Red laughed, the sound booming like thunder across the vast, empty space. There was a genuine amusement in his voice, something Issei hadn't expected.
Ddraig, however, wasn't nearly as amused. His voice echoed seriously in Issei's mind, 'What are you doing, partner? He's already granted us freedom to train here. Don't antagonize Great Red any further. He just wants to be left alone. Not to mention, dragons by nature are selfish and territorial. The idea of them being in a 'gang' is unheard of.'
Before Issei could respond, Red's deep voice cut through the air, more curious than hostile. "What's your name, wielder of the Boosted Gear and host of Ddraig?"
"Issei Hyoudou," the teenager answered immediately, his voice steady despite the surreal situation.
Red paused, his massive eyes narrowing thoughtfully before a grin spread across his draconic features . "I like the way you think. Everyone would think twice about crossing us dragons if we made our own gang to rival theirs. You've convinced me. Now we need a cool name," Red said with an unusual enthusiasm, his tone almost playful.
Ddraig seemed to be in disbelief, his voice tinged with astonishment. "I can't believe he's going for this…"
Issei, catching the moment, thought hard. He knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and the name had to be perfect—something that resonated with the rebellious spirit of both him and Red. After a moment, he grinned beneath his armor. "Maybe Draconic Unity." The words came out confidently, almost instinctively. "That's a cool, rebellious name."
Red let out a hearty laugh, the sound filled with excitement and approval. "Hah! You and I are going to be good friends, kid. Let's go flying, and I'll train you a bit. If you're gonna be my wingman, you gotta be as tough as I am!" The enthusiasm in Red's voice was infectious, and Issei could feel a surge of adrenaline and excitement.
As Red's massive wings unfurled, ready to take to the skies, Issei knew this was the beginning of something extraordinary. He was no longer just training to get stronger—he was stepping into a new world, one where he would be flying alongside the most powerful dragon in existence. The thrill of it all, coupled with the bond that was beginning to form, was something he'd never imagined.
With a powerful beat of his wings, Red launched into the air, and Issei followed, feeling a sense of freedom and exhilaration unlike anything he had ever experienced. The skies ahead were infinite, and so were the possibilities.
Four Years Later
For the past four years, Issei and Ddraig made regular trips into the Dimensional Gap, where they trained and hung out with Great Red, the strongest dragon in existence. Despite the initial oddity of the situation, Ddraig eventually came to appreciate the unique mentorship. Issei had managed to learn a great deal from his new mentor, far beyond what either of them had imagined.
Great Red, true to his formidable reputation, taught Issei many forbidden and secret abilities—techniques that were both incredibly powerful and dangerously rare. These skills would prove invaluable in his inevitable showdown with the White Dragon Emperor and other formidable beings. The training was relentless, pushing Issei beyond his limits, but the results were undeniable. His power had grown exponentially, to the point where he had manifested an additional pair of dragon wings, bringing the total to four—just like Red's.
Physically, Issei transformed as well. The years of rigorous training and intense mental conditioning sculpted him into a young man with a lean, muscular physique. His once-boyish charm had evolved into something far more potent—a presence that radiated both power and an irresistible allure. This new aura made him both a force to be reckoned with and a magnet for attention.
But the changes weren't just physical. Under Great Red's influence, Issei had picked up a host of enduring traits. He became more confident, resilient, and focused—qualities that would serve him well in the battles to come. However, along with these positive traits, he also developed a borderline obsession with all things perverse, much to Ddraig's ongoing dismay. The ancient dragon often found himself exasperated by Issei's antics, though he begrudgingly accepted that this, too, was part of his partner's unique nature.
Back home, Issei's parents couldn't help but notice the drastic changes in their son. He spent countless nights away from home, always disappearing for long stretches of time with little explanation. The secrecy and his increasingly independent lifestyle led them to suspect he was part of a gang. Their suspicions only grew when Issei bought a motorcycle with unexplained money and started wearing a leather jacket everywhere he went.
To his parents, it was as if their son had transformed overnight into a rebellious young man involved in some shady underworld. They tried to talk to him about his life, their concern growing with each passing day, but Issei, ever the enigma, kept his true activities hidden. He wasn't just training to become the strongest dragon; he was living a double life, balancing the world of the supernatural with the everyday concerns of his family. And as his power grew, so did the complexity of the life he was leading—one that would eventually bring him to the attention of forces far beyond what his parents could ever imagine.
While it pained Issei to see the worry etched on his parents' faces, he ultimately decided it was better for them to believe he was just a rebellious teenager rather than the truth—that he was a powerful dragon emperor with the potential to destroy the world. The idea of them knowing the full extent of his double life was too much to bear, so he let them assume he was simply caught up in the usual teenage troubles.
Issei's first year of high school was anything but ordinary. In a rather ingenious move, he managed to forge paperwork that stated he had been hospitalized and needed to complete his schoolwork from home. This clever ruse allowed him to skip classes entirely, spending his time instead in the Dimensional Gap with Great Red, honing his skills and growing in power. The only time he set foot in Kuoh Academy was to take exams, where he would shock everyone by acing them with perfect scores, despite his apparent lack of interest in the subjects.
For a while, this setup worked flawlessly. Issei enjoyed the freedom it gave him, allowing him to focus on his training without the distraction of school. However, nothing good lasts forever. Eventually, his forged excuses wore thin, and the administration began to catch on. It became clear that he could no longer avoid the mundane obligations of high school life.
Despite his indifference towards school, Issei knew he couldn't completely abandon it. His parents, already on edge due to his mysterious behavior, would be devastated if he dropped out entirely. There was also a matter of pride—finishing what he started, even if it didn't mean much to him personally, felt like something he needed to do.
With a reluctant sigh, Issei resigned himself to returning to the classroom. As the new school year began at Kuoh Academy, he decided to make his entrance memorable—if not for himself, then certainly for everyone else. Riding his custom red motorcycle, he sped toward the school, the engine roaring without a muffler, the sound echoing like a wild beast. As he approached the gates, he effortlessly popped a wheelie, the front tire lifting off the ground as he surged forward.
The spectacle had the desired effect. Students scattered, some jumping out of the way in fear as Issei blasted past them. The howling noise of his bike was almost deafening, cutting through the morning air with a rebellious energy that matched Issei's mood. He reveled in the thrill of it, the attention, the sense of freedom—even if it was just a brief reprieve before the monotony of school.
Issei pulled up next to the sidewalk and parked his motorcycle with practiced ease. Without a second thought, he shrugged off his leather jacket and draped it over the seat, leaving it there as he walked away. It was a habit he'd developed, trusting that no one would dare touch it after witnessing his dramatic entrance. Besides, the thought of someone trying to mess with his stuff amused him more than it concerned him. He didn't bother with a helmet either—despite it being illegal, no one had ever stopped him, which only added to the thrill.
As he walked toward the school building, the rumble of his bike's engine still echoed in his ears, a reminder of the life he led outside these walls. To everyone else, he might look like just another delinquent, but Issei knew better. He was here to finish what he started, to keep his parents from worrying—and to remind everyone, if only for a moment, that there was more to him than met the eye.
Issei's first day back at school was already grating on his nerves. The moment he stepped inside the main building, he could feel the weight of countless eyes on him. Strolling down the hallways with his hands shoved into his pockets and an apathetic glare etched on his face, he was hoping nobody would bother him due to fear. But much to his irritation, the exact opposite happened.
Instead of avoiding him out of fear like they used to, everyone seemed to be staring at him as if he were the most fascinating thing they had ever seen. Some of these people had known him since childhood, but the distance he had maintained and the drastic changes he'd undergone over the past few years had turned Issei into something of an enigma—a mysterious outlaw among his peers.
He had become almost a legend within the walls of Kuoh Academy, a figure shrouded in rumors and half-truths. They barely saw him during his first year, and when they did, all they could do was gossip about how strange and intimidating he had become. His transformation was a hot topic, and as he walked by, he could practically hear the whispers following in his wake.
Some of the students threw him nasty glares, the bravest among them projecting their own hostility in the face of his rebellious aura. Issei's presence screamed, 'Don't fuck with me', and it was a message that most of them heeded. Despite the few who dared to glare back, the majority of students quickly shuffled out of his way, intimidated by the tall, buff delinquent who had earned a reputation as the toughest kid around.
What puzzled Issei was how well-known he seemed to be. Considering he had spent most of his first year off-campus, training in secret and avoiding the typical high school life, it was strange to him that his presence had made such an impact. But then again, perhaps it wasn't so surprising—after all, rumors had a way of growing in the absence of facts, and Issei's mysterious comings and goings had provided the perfect fodder for wild speculation.
As he continued down the hallway, Issei couldn't help but feel a mix of annoyance and amusement. The attention was unwelcome, but the fear he commanded was something he had grown accustomed to. It was just another part of the double life he led—a powerful dragon emperor in secret, and a notorious delinquent in the eyes of his classmates. Either way, he didn't really care what they thought. He had bigger things on his mind than schoolyard rumors.
As Issei walked through the school, he couldn't help but notice the effect he was having on the girls around him. Many of them froze up, their eyes wide with a mix of fear and something else—something more exciting. Though he kept his expression stoic, internally, he felt a thrill. Girls were always drawn to bad boys, and according to the gossip circulating through Kuoh Academy, he was the baddest of them all.
"Issei-kun came to class today?!" one girl exclaimed loudly, her voice tinged with both surprise and excitement. She blushed furiously when Issei's gaze briefly flicked in her direction, causing her to look away in embarrassment. He caught snippets of other conversations as he walked by, the whispers growing louder as word spread of his unexpected presence.
"Hyoudou-san is actually at school today... just in time for the new school year too," he overheard one girl say, her voice directed toward the student council president.
The dark-haired student council president, with her calm and composed demeanor, adjusted her glasses as her eyes met Issei's. For a brief moment, the two locked eyes, and Issei felt a flicker of something—a challenge, perhaps, or just the weight of her scrutiny.
Without missing a beat, Issei stopped in his tracks and turned to face her fully. "What are you looking at, Buchou?" he asked, his tone laced with a mix of defiance and curiosity. He wasn't one to back down from a confrontation, even if it was as subtle as this one. The hallway seemed to quiet as the tension between them hung in the air, everyone waiting to see how the exchange would play out.
"Nice of you to come to school…I see your health is well. It must be, considering you drove into the front gate pulling a wheelie," Sona remarked, her tone passive but laced with a clear message. There was no mistaking that she was fully aware of the fact that his supposed illness had been a ruse.
"Yeah…all healed up now," Issei replied with careless nonchalance, not bothering to mask his indifference.
Sona's eyes narrowed slightly as she continued, "I hear a lot of rumors that you're a troublemaker. Make sure you keep your nose clean, or I'll get you expelled. Understood, Hyoudou-san?" Her voice was steady, unafraid, and it was clear she wasn't bluffing.
Issei looked down at her with incredulity, taken aback by her audacity. "Is that supposed to be a threat?" he asked, his tone dripping with disdain as he took a step closer, his imposing presence looming over her. The hallway seemed to hold its breath, the onlookers watching the exchange with wide eyes.
Sona, however, remained calm, her expression unfazed as she met his gaze squarely. "It was," she said coolly. "I suggest you get to class. You don't want to make an enemy out of me. Keep your delinquent behavior reserved to off-campus if you would, please."
"Or what?" Issei challenged, his voice low and dangerous, testing her resolve.
Sona's response was a cold, unwavering glare—a silent warning that she wouldn't back down. But it did little to faze Issei, who simply smirked and turned his back on her, dismissing the confrontation with a careless wave of his hand.
"Aye aye, Buchou. You stay out of my way, and I'll stay out of yours," he tossed over his shoulder as he walked away, the tension lingering in the air as the crowd gradually dispersed.
The exchange had been brief, but it left a lasting impression. Issei wasn't used to being challenged so openly, especially by someone like Sona. Yet, he couldn't help but respect her nerve, even if he wasn't about to let it go unchallenged.
As Issei continued down the hallway, a voice rang out behind him, laced with anger. "Hey, asshole! You can't talk to the President like that! Why don't you get your ass back here and apologize to her!"
The voice belonged to a blonde boy, Saji, who was clearly not pleased with Issei's defiance. Fueled by a mix of loyalty and frustration, Saji marched up to Issei and placed a hand on his shoulder, trying to stop him.
This was a mistake.
In an instant, Issei's hand shot up, grabbing Saji's wrist with a vice-like grip. He turned around slowly, his eyes cold and unyielding. Saji's bravado evaporated as a wave of pain shot through his arm, forcing him to slump over and cry out in agony. The intensity of Issei's grip was merciless, and within moments, Saji was on his knees, the pain too much to bear.
"Don't ever touch me again, dude, or you're losing this hand…" Issei's voice was low, almost casual, but the threat in his words was unmistakable. He held Saji's gaze for a moment longer, letting the warning sink in before he released his grip.
Saji crumpled to the floor, clutching his wrist and gasping for breath. Issei didn't bother to look back as he walked away, leaving the blonde boy in pain on the ground. The hallway had gone eerily quiet, the students too shocked to say anything. Issei's reputation as a delinquent wasn't just talk—he had just proven that with a single, brutal demonstration.
"Should we do something about that... about him?" Tsubaki asked, her voice tinged with concern as she watched Issei walk away. The tension in the hallway was palpable, and the sight of Saji writhing on the floor only heightened the unease.
Sona's expression mirrored Tsubaki's concern as she whispered back, "Saji might not be very powerful as a devil, but a normal human shouldn't be able to do that to him. I had my suspicions that there was something off about Hyoudou, but that... was surprising. We should talk to Rias' peerage and see if they can find anything out about him. I doubt he would let anyone from the student council get near him without acting up."
As Issei continued to walk away, he could feel the weight of everyone's eyes on him. The easy way he had manhandled Saji had only cemented his reputation, and now the students were gossiping and staring with renewed intensity.
'Now I know how Red feels… these cowards seriously need to stop looking at me. I knew it was gonna blow coming back here this year, but this is just insufferable,' Issei thought, his annoyance growing with each step he took. The whispers followed him like a shadow, a constant reminder of the attention he had unfortunatly drawn to himself.
He clenched his fists, resisting the urge to lash out. He hadn't come back to Kuoh Academy to play games or prove himself to a bunch of gawking students. But now, it seemed like that was exactly what he'd have to deal with. Issei sighed internally, knowing this was only the beginning of a school year that was already proving to be more troublesome than he had anticipated.
After wandering through the hallways, Issei finally arrived at his new second-year classroom. The atmosphere inside was already settled, with his classmates seated and the teacher in the middle of a lesson. As he stepped through the door, every eye in the room turned toward him. His sensei, a stern-looking woman, paused mid-sentence and fixed him with a disapproving glare.
"Hyoudou-san?" she called out, her tone sharp and authoritative.
"Yeah…" Issei responded carelessly, his voice indifferent as if he couldn't be bothered to care.
"You're late…but seeing as how it's the first day, I'll let that slide. Go ahead and take your seat," she instructed before turning her attention back to the class.
Issei shrugged and made his way to a corner seat by the window, slumping down into it. He glanced out at the familiar view, trying to shake off the lingering irritation from his earlier encounters. But just as he was beginning to relax, the door opened again.
Two girls walked into the room, and immediately, the atmosphere shifted. They were both stunningly beautiful, their presence commanding attention without effort. But it wasn't just their looks that caught Issei's attention—there was something about them that set off alarm bells in his mind. He couldn't explain it, but his instincts told him they were dangerous, and his body tensed up involuntarily.
The girls exchanged a few quiet words with the teacher, who nodded before turning back to the class. "Well…it seems we have two new transfer students this year. Go ahead and introduce yourselves, ladies."
"Two in one day? That's nuts," one of the male students muttered in disbelief, his eyes locked on the two new girls. "But at least these two are a couple of hotties and not some pretty boy asshole."
The comment came from a guy with a shaved head, who was busy discussing the sizes of the new girls with his glasses-wearing friend. Their conversation, while typical for them, was not something that Issei would partake in. At least publicly. He could appreciate their interest, but he had been so far removed from their world that he never bothered to talk to the two class perverts.
'They seem a little interesting. Maybe I'll talk with them at some point,' thought Issei with a slight smirk. However, this was going to need to wait.
The first transfer student, a girl with pale blue hair, stepped forward with an air of indifference. "My name is Tiamat Draconis. I'm from Eastern Europe," she introduced herself, her tone as cold and distant as her gaze. Issei couldn't help but notice the similarity in their attitudes—she was clearly just as uninterested in making friends as he was.
Next, the silver-haired girl took her place at the front of the class. "I'm Valeria Drage. I'm from Northern Europe. Most people just call me Vali. I would prefer it if you addressed me as such," she said, her voice carrying an edge of authority.
"Wow, their Japanese is perfect," one of the girls in the class remarked in awe, her eyes wide with admiration as she took in the two stunning transfer students. The praise was sincere, reflecting the effortless fluency and ease with which Tiamat and Valeria spoke.
The teacher, who had been observing the scene with a mixture of curiosity and professionalism, gestured toward the empty desks to Issei's right. "Go ahead and sit over there, you two."
As Tiamat and Valeria made their way to their assigned seats, their gazes inevitably fell on Issei. He could feel their eyes on him, a sensation that would normally have annoyed him. But something about these girls piqued his interest. They were different—more enigmatic than the usual high school crowd, and their foreign appearance only added to their intrigue.
Despite this, Issei chose not to dwell on them. He turned his attention away, focusing instead on the lesson that was just about to start. He had grown accustomed to the presence of devils in his school and was adept at detecting them. Whatever these new students were, they clearly weren't human, but that was of little consequence to him.
He had his own agenda—keeping a low profile while he continued his training and trying to avoid unnecessary complications. If he managed to blend into the background and stay out of their way, they'd never uncover the truth about him being a dragon. For now, he'd let his curiosity simmer in the back of his mind and focus on his own goals.
As Issei made his way to lunch, the usual bustling energy of the school seemed to pulse with an unfamiliar edge. The air was thick with a peculiar scent, one that made him pause and frown. ' More devils? This school reeks of them. I wonder if those transfer students are devils too?' The thought was unsettling, but he quickly brushed it aside as he bought his lunch and headed for the rooftop.
He sought out a solitude location and found on in a secluded corner where he could eat in peace and think about his next trip to see Red. The tranquility was a welcome escape from the chaos of the school day. His thoughts were focused on the formidable dragon and his training when the serenity was abruptly interrupted.
The pale blue-haired girl from class, Tiamat, appeared before him. She was alone, which piqued Issei's curiosity. As she approached, she sniffed the air with an air of perplexity. Her gaze fixed on him with a mixture of curiosity and intensity.
"You're not human… you're not a devil… you're not an angel… you don't smell like anything. What are you?" she asked, her voice cutting through the air with a sharpness that made Issei's eyes narrow.
Issei stood up, adopting a nonchalant stance. "I'm nothing that concerns you," he replied coolly.
Tiamat tilted her head slightly, her expression unreadable. "Is that right? Do you even know what I am?"
With a smirk, Issei responded, "A beautiful girl asking me for a date?" His tone was light, almost mocking.
Tiamat's lips curled into a faint smile, and for a moment, the icy facade melted away. "You're lucky I found that funny, or you would have died for saying that," she said, her voice carrying an undertone of menace that belied her smile.
'Issei…she's a dragon. I know her…Tiamat is one of the Five Dragon Kings! Please don't let her find out…' Ddraig said telepathically.
He was taken aback by the revelation. 'Why? Is she powerful or something?'
'Compared to you? No…but I still owe her, and I would rather she not find out who you are unless you want her to stalk you for the rest of your life.' Ddraig replied.
'She your ex or something?' Issei asked.
'Not exactly…but I sort of owe her for breaking a treasure of hers. She's come after me and my hosts ever since then. Trust me…she's not the kind of drama you want to deal with,' Ddraig said concerned.
Tiamat's curiosity was palpable as she leaned in close to Issei, her nostrils flaring as she sniffed him again. "So… you're just a mystery then? How interesting… You must be a devil if you're this deep into their territory and they haven't done anything to you. Or maybe an undercover angel hiding his power and scent. Whatever you are, I will find out."
Before Issei could respond, a new voice cut through the air, sharp and authoritative. "Tiamat, leave him alone. Let me do the talking here."
Tiamat straightened up and stepped back, a subtle but clear acknowledgment of authority. "As you say, Vali," she replied curtly.
Vali walked up to Issei with a calm, measured stride. She took a moment to appraise him with a cool gaze before speaking. "I don't care what you are. Angel, Devil, whatever… I'm half-human myself. The name's actually Vali Lucifer. Nice to meet you, Issei Hyoudou. I hear you're kind of a badass around Kuoh Academy. Word is you manhandled some student council white knight earlier.
Issei raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Vali's straightforwardness. "Is there a reason you're introducing yourself to me personally?" he asked, trying to gauge her intent.
Vali's eyes met Issei's with a hint of amusement. "Curiosity, mostly. And perhaps a bit of admiration for your… unconventional approach to things. It's not every day you meet someone who stirs up the kind of buzz you have. I just thought we'd touch base with you before anything else happens at this school. I don't make it a habit of approaching people or interfering with their privacy, unlike Tiamat. I just wanted to let you know that we're not associated with the devil dens in this school."
Issei shrugged, his tone casual. "Neither am I."
"That's surprising, but it's good to know," Vali replied with a smile. "If you'd like, you can join with us. You seem like the type of person worth keeping around."
Issei raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Vali Lucifer…are you a devil?"
Vali's smile widened slightly as she flashed eight black demonic wings briefly before folding them back out of sight. "Yep… a high-class devil heir," she confirmed, her tone both proud and casual.
Issei took the opportunity to observe her more closely. Vali had stunning blue eyes and long, silver hair that cascaded elegantly down her back. Her face was strikingly beautiful, and her athletic build was evident in her well-toned arms and legs. Her figure was complemented by a respectable bust and an impressive rear, a result of her athletic training.
Issei's surprise was evident as he stared at Vali, his curiosity piqued. "So you're a big-shot devil? What is she then?" Issei asked while motioning towards Tiamat.
Vali's eyes softened slightly as she explained, "Tiamat is a Dragon—one of the Five Dragon Kings. Specifically, she is the Chaos Karma Dragon. We're allies and have been for several years now."
Issei frowned, still processing the information. "Why are you here at Kuoh Academy? What possible reason would a high-class devil and a Dragon King have for being here? And why reveal yourselves to me?"
Vali shrugged with a touch of nonchalance. "I'm looking for allies to join the Khaos Brigade. This town is brimming with paranormal activity, so I figured it would be a good place to scout. Kuoh Academy sits in a strategic spot within the Gremory and Sitri territories, but it's a hotspot for all sorts of supernatural elements. You, for example, are quite the unexpected variable. I honestly didn't expect to find a potential recruit on our first day here."
"That makes sense… but what's the Khaos Brigade?" Issei asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.
Vali's expression remained calm as she answered, "The Khaos Brigade is a coalition of powerful beings who oppose the angels of Heaven, the fallen angels, and the devils of the underworld. We work for the Infinite Dragon God, Ophis."
Issei's eyes widened in disbelief. "Ophis the dragon god is your boss?"
Vali nodded. "Yes, she is. And she mentioned that this town has a dragon in it. I'm guessing that's what you are."
Panic flared in Issei's mind. 'Oh shit… damn, I better play this down if I can. She doesn't know I'm the Red Dragon Emperor. Maybe I can pretend I'm just some other dragon,' he thought quickly.
With a casual shrug, Issei replied, "Ha… good guess. I am a dragon, but nothing quite as impressive as a Dragon King or anything like her," he pointed at Tiamat.
Tiamat, who had been quietly observing, tilted her head slightly. "Oh, he's a dragon? How come I couldn't tell? That's odd..."
"One of my special abilities is concealing myself from others' senses," Issei said, leaning casually against the rooftop railing. "I prefer to keep it that way, since angels and devils usually despise my kind unless we're serving them."
Vali nodded thoughtfully, while Tiamat's skeptical gaze never wavered. "Fair point…though you seem more powerful than a simple dragon and you don't quite smell like a human. I know all the great dragons, and you don't exactly fit into what I'm familiar with," Tiamat remarked, her tone tinged with suspicion.
"Guess I'm not that great or powerful then," Issei replied with a shrug, his nonchalance almost rehearsed.
Vali, clearly unfazed by Tiamat's skepticism, continued smoothly, "Regardless, we could always use another member of the Khaos Brigade. Besides, I'm sure Tiamat could train you up well. It's not every day we find someone with your potential."
Issei raised an eyebrow, considering their offer. "Look, no disrespect, Vali Lucifer and Dragon King Tiamat, but I sort of just do my own thing around here. We can be on good terms, but I don't really care for causes and taking orders from self-righteous people… no offense."
Tiamat's eyes narrowed with frustration. "So, you plan to stay neutral? That's a dangerous game to play. The devils in this town will either try to recruit you or eliminate you if they discover what you are. Without allies, you might find yourself in a tough spot. What could possibly be worth risking your life for in the human world?"
Issei shrugged, a nonchalant smirk on his face. "The human world is simple and relaxing. I don't see much difference between your faction and the angels or devils. It's all just politics and power struggles, and I'm not interested. I just want to live my life freely—ride my motorcycle, do what I enjoy, and not be controlled by anyone. That's enough for me."
"You're definitely a dragon…not interested in following others I see. Very well, Issei Hyoudou, we won't pressure you to join us. You have my word on that. However, I will take you up on your offer of being friends," Vali said with a sly grin.
'Friends?! When the hell did I tell them I wanted to be friends? Being on good terms is not the same as being friends. Hmph…well at least they're not being super pushy about the recruiting thing. Besides these two look pretty…and pretty tough. I guess if it keeps them off my back,' Issei thought as he checked them both out.
'There's something off about that Vali girl... I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's this weird feeling I get whenever she's around,' Ddraig muttered telepathically, his deep voice tinged with unease. ' You better keep your guard up, Issei. If Tiamat's taking orders from her, then she's got to be packing some serious power. I can't help but wonder what their deal is with Ophis.'
Issei leaned back against the fence that lined the roof, his eyes narrowing as he considered Ddraig's words. 'Red mentioned something about Ophis challenging him a while back. Maybe that's connected, maybe not. We could ask him when we see him again,' Issei mused telepathically, the thought trailing off as he watched Vali from the corner of his eye.
The wind whipped around them, carrying with it the distant sounds of students enjoying their lunch break below, oblivious to the tension building on the rooftop. Vali stood across from him, her expression unreadable, though her eyes seemed to pierce right through him. Issei straightened up, his gaze hardening as he addressed her.
"Friends? That might be pushing it," he began, his voice strong, cutting through the wind with a finality that left no room for misinterpretation. "How about this: I'll stay out of your way and give you a wave if I see you in the hallway. You can eat lunch with me if you want… but that's it. I'm not your lackey, I'm not your ally, and I sure as hell am not your friend. So, don't try cozying up to me."
There was a heavy pause, the tension thickening as Vali regarded him, her lips curling into the faintest hint of a smirk. Before she could respond, Tiamat stepped forward, her presence commanding as always. Her eyes gleamed with a mixture of amusement and menace as she let out a low hiss, her voice dripping with contempt. "For a dragon with little renown, you're awfully bold to talk to us that way."
"Maybe so, but I don't take shit from anyone, whether they're a Dragon King or a Satan," Issei shot back, his tone unwavering. His words hung in the air like a challenge, defiant and raw. Tiamat's eyes gleamed with a mixture of amusement and respect at his fearless attitude. A slow, predatory smile spread across her lips, revealing a hint of her sharp teeth.
"You've definitely got the right attitude to be strong," she remarked, her voice dripping with a mix of approval and something more primal. She took a step closer, her presence almost overwhelming in its intensity. "I can still train you if you want. I don't see many other dragons these days, and you've got potential."
Issei's gaze remained steady, though he felt the weight of her words pressing down on him. Training with Tiamat was an offer that could tempt even the most disciplined of people. But Issei wasn't like most others. He valued his independence too much to be swayed by someone who wasn't even up to his own level, no matter how alluring she might seem.
"No thanks… I'd rather not get mixed up with you two if I can avoid it," he replied dryly, his voice devoid of any hint of hesitation. He met her gaze head-on, refusing to be intimidated by the sheer force of her presence. "You can still eat lunch with me if you want, though."
Tiamat chuckled softly, a low, throaty sound that sent a shiver down Issei's spine. There was something almost playful in her eyes as she regarded him, a dragon who dared to stand his ground. "Suit yourself, dumbass. I've never offered to train another dragon before… but I kind of like you so far. The offer still stands if you change your mind."
She leaned in closer, her breath warm against his skin. Issei tensed as she closed the distance between them, her face inches from his. Before he could react, she reached out and, in a swift, fluid motion, licked his cheek. The sensation was startling—her tongue cool and surprisingly soft against his skin, leaving a lingering tingle in its wake.
Issei froze, his mind reeling as he processed what had just happened. Tiamat pulled back with a wicked grin, clearly enjoying his stunned reaction. "Think about it," she added, her voice teasing as she turned and sauntered away, leaving Issei standing there completely confused.
Her presence lingering in the air like the fading echo of a thunderstorm. Issei exhaled, releasing a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. But the moment of calm was brief, as Vali remained, her silver hair catching the light as she regarded him with a curious tilt of her head, as if pondering something deeply.
"Say… that red motorcycle at the front of the school wouldn't happen to be yours, would it?" she asked, her tone almost casual but laced with a hint of intrigue.
Issei's brow furrowed slightly. "Yeah, it's mine… what of it?" he replied, wary of where this conversation was headed.
Vali's lips curved into a small, knowing smile. "It looked pretty decked out… might even be as fast as mine," she noted, her voice carrying a subtle challenge.
Issei's eyes widened in surprise. "You ride?" he asked, genuinely caught off guard. The idea of Vali, with her cool demeanor and sharp intellect, tearing down the road on a motorcycle wasn't something he'd expected.
"Hell yeah I do. I got my bike imported just the other day. It's a beast," she said, a spark of excitement flashing in her usually composed eyes. "I know you're trying to keep a low profile by avoiding us and all, but if you're up for it, we could go riding sometime," she suggested, the offer hanging in the air as she began to walk away.
Issei watched her go, his gaze trailing after her with a mix of admiration and disbelief. He couldn't help but notice the way her hips swayed as she moved, her form almost hypnotic in its grace. For a moment, his thoughts drifted, his eyes lingering on her curves, but he quickly snapped out of it, shaking his head to clear his mind. Focus, he chided himself, tearing his gaze away.
As he turned to head back to class, he couldn't shake the strange sense of connection he felt, the idea of riding alongside Vali both exhilarating and unnerving. The thought stayed with him as he made his way down the staircase, each step echoing in the quiet hallway. Just as he reached the landing, a flash of crimson caught his eye. He glanced up, and his breath caught in his throat. Her beauty was so striking that it seemed to distort reality itself, making the world around her blur and fade into the background. Issei's heart skipped a beat as she walked by, her hair like liquid fire, a vivid contrast against the mundane surroundings. The two locked eyes for a brief moment, and in that instant, something electric passed between them.
Issei's breath caught as he looked back over his shoulder, his curiosity piqued. She had paused on the stairway, her gaze fixed on him with an intensity that was almost palpable. Her sapphire eyes seemed to drill into him, searching, probing, yet strangely, Issei didn't feel unsettled. There was something in that look, something beyond mere curiosity—an unspoken recognition, perhaps.
He quickly turned away, a strange mix of thoughts swirling in his mind as he hurried down the stairs. ' Who is that girl?!' he wondered, his thoughts racing. ' Her hair was redder than blood… and what was with that look she gave me? She smelled like a devil… is she the Gremory Devil girl that runs the Occult Club here?' Issei shook his head, trying to recall if he'd ever seen her before. But no matter how hard he tried, her face was a mystery to him, as if she had just appeared out of nowhere.
Distracted by the encounter, Issei's attention wandered, and before he realized it, he collided with someone on the lower landing. The impact was enough to knock the person off balance, and Issei quickly stepped back, startled. He looked down to see a blonde guy, handsome and impeccably groomed, sprawled on the floor.
Issei blinked in surprise, momentarily at a loss for words. He had no idea who this guy was, but the commotion caused by the collision was immediate. Girls nearby shrieked in shock, their voices rising in a collective gasp.
"Oh my god! Hyoudou knocked down Kiba-sama!" one of the girls proclaimed loudly, her tone filled with a mix of horror and disbelief.
The blonde boy, Kiba, quickly recovered from the collision, standing up with a look of surprise on his face. His eyes flickered briefly to Issei, and within half a second, he seemed to detect the faint trace of a devilish scent on him. ' Damn, how many of these things are in this school?!' Issei's frustration flared silently as he mentally cursed the situation.
Despite the initial shock, Kiba's reaction was surprisingly composed. He rubbed the back of his head, a gesture of both embarrassment and casualness, and offered a warm, friendly smile. "You're a lot stronger than you look. Sorry if I got in your way, Hyoudou-kun." His tone was polite, even deferential, which caught Issei off guard.
'Huh… he's being respectful?' That's odd. Issei mused, noting the stark contrast between Kiba's demeanor and the typically uptight behavior of the devils associated with Sona. ' What did that girl say his name was? Kiba?'
"Yeah, my bad… I didn't see you," Issei replied calmly, deciding to mirror Kiba's non-confrontational attitude rather than escalate the situation.
The surrounding girls, who had been gasping and shrieking, seemed taken aback by the lack of hostility from both sides. Kiba's fangirls were wide-eyed with surprise, their admiration for him momentarily overshadowed by the unexpected civility.
"Well, excuse me, Hyoudou-kun. Take care," Kiba said with a parting smile as he turned to leave. His demeanor was genuine, and Issei couldn't help but think that Kiba might be part of the Gremory Clan. ' He didn't seem like a bad guy for a devil,' Issei thought, his impression of Kiba shifting from the typical devilish stereotype. As Kiba walked away, Issei shook his head, musing on the odd encounter. He headed back to class.
End of the Day
As Issei approached his custom red motorcycle parked at the front of the school, ready to head home, he was taken aback by an unexpected sight. Vali was perched on a white motorcycle right next to his own. The bike was a masterpiece, its design sleek and aggressive, and it practically oozed power.
Vali glanced over at Issei with a mischievous grin. "Yo, Issei. Why don't you show me what that bike of yours can do?" she called out, her voice brimming with challenge and excitement.
Before Issei could react, Vali twisted the throttle, unleashing a thunderous roar from her engine. The sound reverberated through the school grounds, drawing the attention of every student nearby. The front of the school was suddenly abuzz with excitement and curiosity as the students gathered, their eyes wide with amazement.
Issei grinned, feeling a rush of adrenaline. He hopped onto his motorcycle, starting it up with a satisfying growl. He revved his engine in response, the roar of his bike echoing Vali's challenge. The sound was like a duel of thunder, each bike's engine competing for dominance.
Just as the spectacle reached its peak, Tiamat pulled up on a striking blue motorcycle. Her arrival was dramatic, and she nearly collided with a few students who scattered in surprise. She slid to a stop next to Issei and Vali, her presence commanding attention.
Issei couldn't help but laugh, his enthusiasm clearly showing. "Nice bikes," he shouted over the noise, his grin wide.
Tiamat, her eyes sparkling with amusement, responded with a hearty laugh. "Yours too…" she said, her voice tinged with genuine appreciation. Without missing a beat, she performed a wild donut in the street, her bike spinning in a controlled, yet exhilarating display. The smoke from her tires swirled around, adding to the chaos of the scene.
The Sekiryuutei grinned as he revved his engine and immediately popped a wheelie, tearing off down the road with a burst of raw power. The thrill of speed coursed through his veins, but that excitement quickly turned into surprise when he noticed the blue and white motorcycles of Tiamat and Vali steadily closing in on either side of him.
Within moments, Issei realized what was happening—it wasn't just a casual ride anymore; it was a race. The three of them hurtled through the town, engines roaring as they pushed their bikes to the limit. The sound of screaming tires and revving engines filled the air, drawing the attention of everyone they passed. It wasn't long before the police took notice, their sirens blaring as they attempted to pursue the reckless trio.
But catching a group of dragons was no easy feat. Issei, Tiamat, and Vali weaved through traffic and tore around corners with a reckless abandon that left the authorities far behind. They were untouchable, moving like blurs through the city streets, their laughter mingling with the roar of their bikes. For nearly two hours, the trio raced around the city, causing chaos wherever they went.
Eventually, the thrill ride brought Issei back to his home. He wasn't entirely surprised when Tiamat and Vali followed him there, clearly intent on finding out where he lived. A fleeting thought crossed his mind—could they be planning to use his family against him? But he quickly dismissed it, a dangerous glint in his eyes. ' They'd be dead if I ever caught them messing with my parents,' he thought darkly.
As they pulled up in front of his house, Tiamat hopped off her bike with a wide grin. "Done already, Issei? That was a blast!" she exclaimed, her excitement palpable.
Issei frowned slightly, his thoughts lingering on how casually she was using his first name. ' They're already calling me by my first name like we're friends or something… that's presumptuous as hell,' he thought, his irritation evident.
"You never asked if it was okay to call me by my name. I thought I told you we aren't friends," Issei said flatly, his tone leaving no room for misunderstanding. Tiamat and Vali exchanged glances, the hint of amusement in their eyes.
Vali then stepped forward, her lips curling into a seductively sly grin. "Good race, Issei… you won't win the next one, though. Take care," she said, her voice laced with playful challenge.
With that, both Vali and Tiamat revved their engines one last time before taking off, leaving Issei standing at the front of his house. He watched them go, the sound of their bikes fading into the distance, before he sighed and parked his own bike. The day had been a whirlwind of unexpected events, and as he turned to head inside, he couldn't help but wonder what the next encounter with those two might bring.
As Issei was just about to open the door to his house, a sudden, chilling realization hit him like a ton of bricks. ' Wait a second…' he thought, panic creeping into his mind. ' They think I'm an actual dragon and not a human. So, if they end up seeing my human parents, they'll assume I'm human too. And then they'll assume I have a Sacred Gear… ah shit.' His heart raced as the implications of this dawned on him. ' I better avoid bringing them here if I can. It couldn't hurt to come up with a good excuse for when they ask me about it too.'
Ddraig's voice echoed reassuringly in his mind, calm amidst Issei's sudden anxiety. 'I wouldn't stress over it too much, Issei… You're definitely ready to reveal yourself now that you've matured your powers.'
Issei, however, wasn't convinced. ' Yeah… but it's like you said, the moment I do, all hell will break loose. I at least wanted to get through high school. At this rate, I doubt that's gonna happen.' His reply to Ddraig was tinged with resignation, a sigh escaping his lips as the weight of his situation pressed down on him.
With a heavy heart and his mind swirling with thoughts, Issei walked through the front door of his home, the familiar comfort of his house doing little to ease his concerns. The moment he stepped inside, his parents, seated in the living room, perked up with surprise at his sudden arrival.
"I'm home," Issei announced, his voice subdued compared to the whirlwind of events that had just transpired.
But before he could fully settle in, his parents' voices caught his attention. "We know… we heard you drive up," his father began, his tone hesitant, almost as if he was carefully choosing his words. "I-I hope you're doing well, Issei. We never really see you much these days. You mind if we talk, son?"
Issei paused, glancing at his father. The unease in his voice was unmistakable. "Sure, I guess… What about?" Issei replied, trying to sound nonchalant, but a part of him already knew where this conversation was heading.
His father shifted uncomfortably, exchanging a brief look with his mother before continuing. "Umm… well, your mother and I have been talking, and it's… well, we're concerned about your behavior," he said, his voice gentle but laced with worry.
Issei couldn't help but sigh, the weariness in his expression growing. "This again?" he muttered, rolling his eyes in frustration. It wasn't the first time they'd had this conversation, and he doubted it would be the last.
His father's concern deepened, evident in the furrow of his brow. "We thought it was just a phase at first, but you're really getting deep into this delinquent thing, son. You're not involved with the Yakuza, are you?" he asked, his voice tinged with fear.
Issei shook his head, a small, almost dismissive smile tugging at his lips. "No, I'm not… I just ride my motorcycle and work. You guys worry too much about me," he said casually, hoping to brush off their concerns. But he knew his parents well enough to understand that wouldn't be enough.
His mother, who had been silent until now, finally spoke up, her voice soft but filled with a different kind of worry. "We never see you with any friends or hear about what's going on in your life. It's like you're never here… like you never want to be here. Why? What are you avoiding, Issei? Is it us? Is there a girl or something going on? Are you in trouble? You can tell us, son… we're just worried about you."
Her words struck a chord with Issei, and for a moment, he felt a pang of guilt. They had no idea about the world he was truly involved in, the dangers he faced daily, and the power he had learned to control. But how could he explain any of that to them?
"I'm fine, honestly," Issei tried to reassure them, but his voice lacked the conviction he hoped it would have. "I just have a lot of hobbies," he added vaguely, knowing it wouldn't satisfy them but unsure of what else to say.
"Like what? Where do you go? You aren't part of any clubs from what I've heard, and there are rumors that you're a troublemaker at school. One of your teachers even asked me if you were recovering from an illness. Have you been skipping school too?" his mother pressed, her voice edged with both concern and frustration.
Issei met her gaze, sensing the anxiety behind her questions. "Not skipping. I still have the highest grades in my class, I believe. I just do things around town… work on motorcycles and train in martial arts. You know, that kind of stuff. I promise it's nothing bad," he said, his tone calm and reassuring, though he could see it wasn't quite enough to ease their worries.
His mother's frown deepened, but before she could say anything, his father jumped in. "Then where do you get all this money from? How can you afford that motorcycle and all the things you buy for us?"
Issei shrugged nonchalantly, trying to downplay the situation. "It's not that much money…" he began, but his father cut him off, shaking his head and holding up two tickets.
"You bought us round-trip tickets to a resort in Europe and paid off my car. Kids don't do those kinds of things for their parents." His father's voice was steady, but Issei could sense the underlying concern. The tickets were a gesture of care, but also one that raised too many questions.
His mother, softer in her approach, added, "What your father is trying to say is, we appreciate these things you're doing for us, but it's just hard to accept since you barely talk to your father and me. You don't have to buy us things to make us love you, Issei. We just want to see you around more."
Her words struck Issei harder than he expected. There was no anger in her voice, just a quiet plea for understanding. She wasn't scolding him—she was worried, and he could see the sadness in her eyes.
As his mother spoke, an unexpected relief washed over Issei as he remembered the tickets. ' I totally forgot I bought them tickets for a vacation. That's actually good timing… I can get them out of here for a bit and keep my cover going,' he thought, feeling a bit of the tension in his chest ease.
"I wish you guys would stop worrying about me. My grades are good, I make good money, and I have hobbies. It's not as crazy as you make it out to be. I just thought it'd be a good anniversary gift for you," Issei replied, trying to keep his tone light, though a hint of frustration slipped through.
His father shook his head, his expression still clouded with doubt. "We can't accept these tickets… not unless I know how you could afford to buy them," he said, his voice firm but tinged with concern.
Issei resisted the urge to roll his eyes, knowing that wouldn't help the situation. "I've been working for this international group lately. They pay really well for me to fix their motorcycles. Just take the tickets and go on the cruise," he said, his tone shifting to something more stern, a subtle plea for them to let it go.
His father sighed deeply, the lines of worry etched in his face softening just a little. "Well… I suppose if you insist. Although, why didn't you buy one for yourself as well?"
"I'm too busy with school and work. Speaking of which, I have homework to do," Issei replied, hoping to steer the conversation to an end. The longer it went on, the more uneasy he felt under their scrutiny.
His mother's expression softened as she looked at him, her eyes brimming with emotion. "A-alright… we love you, son. It's okay if you ever want to talk to us. We just want you to know we're here for you," she said, her voice wavering slightly as she moved to embrace him.
Despite his rough exterior and the walls he often put up, Issei didn't pull away. He allowed the hug, feeling the warmth of his mother's love wrap around him. Moments like this reminded him why he worked so hard to keep his life compartmentalized. He needed to protect them, to keep them in the dark for their own safety, even if it meant creating a distance he didn't always want.
"Thanks, Mom. I know," he said quietly, giving her a reassuring smile before gently pulling away. After a quick nod to his father, he headed up the stairs to his room, his thoughts a whirl of conflicting emotions.
'I should go ask Red if he knows anything about the Khaos Brigade,' Issei thought as he plopped down onto his bed, the mattress creaking under his weight. The familiar softness did little to ease the tension knotting in his chest. His thoughts swirled, restless and unsettled, as he stared up at the ceiling, trying to make sense of everything.
'I wouldn't recommend trying to go tonight or anytime soon,' Ddraig's deep, resonant voice echoed in his mind, a cautionary edge to his words. 'Those two girls are no doubt watching you in some manner. Let their curiosity die down a bit before going. You will regret it if Tiamat finds out you're the Red Dragon Emperor.'
Issei groaned, rubbing his face with both hands in frustration. "Ughh… I hate this crap. I'm so used to hanging out in the Dimensional Gap that I just can't stand not being able to vent there," he sighed, the annoyance of the day weighing on him heavily.
He missed the freedom of the Dimensional Gap, the vast, infinite space where he could let loose without any worries. It was a place where the boundaries of reality didn't apply, and he could truly be himself without the need for masks or pretense. But now, stuck in the mundane world, he felt caged, every move monitored, every action scrutinized.
"Patience, Issei. The time will come when you can act, but for now, you must play the part," Ddraig advised, his tone more soothing now, though the underlying urgency remained. "Remember, revealing your true self too soon could bring more trouble than you care to deal with.'
Issei knew Ddraig was right, but it didn't make the waiting any easier. He closed his eyes, taking a deep breath as he tried to push the frustration aside. The silence of the room only amplified the thoughts racing in his mind, but he knew he had to stay patient, at least for now.
"Fine. I guess I really should get some of that homework done," he muttered, though the resolve in his voice was mixed with reluctance. He hated feeling like a pawn, but he also knew that making a move now would cause way more trouble than it was worth. For now, all he could do was hope that he wouldn't need to deal with much more of these stupid political games.
The Next Day
The next morning, Issei's parents reluctantly left for their vacation. Though they were initially displeased with the suddenness of it all, Issei was confident they would come around once they arrived at the luxurious destination. After seeing them off, he mounted his motorcycle and headed to school, deciding to park it in a more conventional spot today—an unusual choice for him.
As he rolled up to the school, his eyes narrowed in surprise. Tiamat and Vali were already there, casually leaning against their bikes, clearly waiting for him. ' Are they seriously waiting for me?' Issei thought, baffled by their persistence.
"Yo, Issei, about time you showed up. Do you always cut it this close?" Vali teased with a playful grin, noting his habit of arriving mere minutes before class.
Issei shrugged nonchalantly. "Pretty much. I prefer to spend as little time here as possible."
As they began walking toward the school building, Tiamat glanced at him with curiosity. "I meant to ask you yesterday, Issei—what kind of dragon are you?"
"Just a high-level flame dragon," he replied, trying to sound indifferent. "Nothing crazy."
Tiamat's eyes lingered on him, skepticism evident in her gaze. "Hmm… is Issei your real name?" she probed.
"Pretty much," he answered with a nod.
She shook her head slightly, still unconvinced. "I've never heard of a flame dragon with the ability to transform and conceal their power like you do. You're stronger than that, aren't you?"
Issei brushed off her concern with a casual wave. "I'm sort of unique, but seriously, I'm nobody important."
Vali's sharp gaze fixed on him, her tone taking on a more serious note. "Hey, Issei, would you be interested in meeting Ophis? She could make you more powerful if you wanted."
'So much for not trying to force me into the Khaos Brigade,' Issei thought, irritated by their persistence. ' These chicks are seriously pushy.'
'Technically, they haven't outright asked you to join again, but this is definitely their way of trying to get on your good side. They're incredibly persistent—though, considering it's Tiamat, why am I not surprised?' Ddraig remarked in Issei's mind.
'It makes sense, I guess. Ophis sent them to this town to find a dragon and recruit people for her faction. I wonder how she knew I was here? If we meet her, she'll instantly recognize me as the Red Dragon Emperor,' Issei thought, growing more concerned.
"I don't really have much of a reason to get stronger," Issei said, trying to steer the conversation away from dangerous territory. "I'm trying to stay out of all these wars and other crap, you know?"
Vali frowned, her piercing gaze scrutinizing him. "Yeah, but you're a dragon. All dragons crave more power, fame, and wealth. Greed is in their nature. You seem too strong-willed to lack ambition or goals to get stronger."
Issei's eyes darkened as he shot back, "What the hell would you know about dragons… devil?"
Vali sighed, unfazed by his hostility. "No need to get mad. I'm just speaking from what I know—mostly from watching Tiamat."
A chuckle escaped Tiamat's lips as she glanced at Issei. "She's not wrong, Issei."
As the three of them stepped through the front doors of Kuoh Academy, they were met with a wave of stunned silence. Every guy in the room stared at Issei with barely concealed envy, unable to believe their eyes. The two new transfer students, both drop-dead gorgeous, were walking alongside him. The girls immediately broke into a flurry of gossip, their voices rising in excitement and disbelief.
"Issei-kun is hanging out with the transfer students?!" one girl exclaimed.
"They're so beautiful… why are they following him?" a guy muttered sadly.
Whispers and rumors spread like wildfire as the trio made their way through the hallway. Issei's presence, already commanding, now seemed even more magnetic with the two bombshells trailing after him. The girls in the school could barely contain their curiosity.
"Is he dating one of them? Both, maybe?" one girl gasped.
"I saw them riding motorcycles away from school yesterday. Are they in a gang or something?" another wondered aloud.
"Issei-kun is taken? How's he ever going to notice me with girls like that around him?" a girl whispered anxiously to her friends.
Issei found the entire situation amusing, though a hint of embarrassment crept in. He knew Vali and Tiamat could hear every word the students were saying.
As they neared their classroom, something caught Issei's eye. Further down the hallway, Sona was standing with the stunning red-haired girl he had seen the other day. Both of them turned to stare at the unusual sight of Issei walking into class with Vali and Tiamat by his side.
'Oh, great… now the devils are going to think I'm with them. The drama at this school never ends,' Issei sighed inwardly.
That's all for now!
This chapter is longer and gives you a better idea of what to expect from the series. It took me a while to upload because I've been extremely busy with work, friends, and some other things. I only work on this in my free time, so progress is slow. I can't promise when the next chapter will be out, but I will definitely continue the series. In this chapter, I didn't focus much on dialogue but tried to flesh out the locations as much as possible. I'd love to hear your thoughts and any ideas you have for the series. Also, I've updated the harem members list, so feel free to check that out below. Until next time!
As always, this is a Fanfiction based on a Fanfiction. I really like how the first chapter of DDE is so I kept it majority untouched. I already have been going through the later chapters and have already looked into how I plan to completely change them. Some characters will be heavily modified if not entirely removed.
