Chapter 53: A Seemingly Unbeatable Opponent(Shiro's POV)
"Marinette take my clone to the Castle, see if they can heal him up while we take care of this thing. Coran, Marinette is going to board the Castle."
"Roger that."
Suddenly he sees a purple blast coming from the mech and straight toward them.
"Form Shield!"
Quickly the shield forms and protects them from the incoming blast. He grunts from the weight of the blast. As soon as the pressure stops, he orders, "Hunk form cannon!"
"Got it!"
The cannon shoots blue light at the mech, but it avoids it and outruns the beam when the beam follows it destroying debris in the process.
"He's too fast!"
"We'll get in close then. Form sword!"
The mech brandishes its own dual swords from its legs and charges at them . "Now you'll know the pain of those that defy their promises!" Zethrid shouts in rage, gleaming wickedly at inflicting pain as the swords clash.
They dodge one of the mech's strikes, but it quickly follows them. It slashes at them and Voltron barely manages to bounce the strikes with their own sword. Tearing away after a strike by the mech's tail, he orders, "Shield up!" when the mech comes in for another attack.
"Attack!" he orders and they break away. Charging they hit one of the mech's blades. They then shoot a laser but the mech dodges every blast. When the mech charges in their blades clash again and continue to strike until the tail once again hits Voltron in the face, making them spiral away.
"We can't touch her, she's too fast!" Pidge shouts.
Hunk replies, "We need to make her stop moving around so much. Back her into a corner or something so she'll lose mobility!"
"Hunk's right. We have to eliminate her speed advantage. Limit her movements.." Shiro says approvingly.
He turns Voltron around looking for a space that they can use. He spots a big enough debris where they can trap her and pin her down. "There!" He yells and they make Voltron fly towards it.
"Now we lure her in close."
They turn to face the mech once they reach the back of the debris and Pidge forms the shield as the blast comes. The trap is set and Zethrid charges the mech after them seeing that her blast from earlier didn't destroy them.
"Wait for it, let her build up speed."
"Now!" They dodge the mech and it hits the meteorite. Turning around quickly they fire both lasers from the lion's head straight at the mech. Their blast shoots through the meteorite and reveals the mech to be nowhere.
"Where'd she go?" Hunk asks.
A few seconds later Pidge shouts, "She's right behind us!"
"Hunk hit her with the shoulder cannon!" Shiro orders.
"On it!"
"Fire!"
Blue light heads straight for the mech, but the shot goes right through.
"Did we get her?" Lance asks.
"I don't know."
"I think we got her."
"It looked like she just disappeared into thin air."
"Yeah we got her."
"I'm not so sure," Allura replies.
Suddenly a white light appears behind them and Zethrid's mech hits them hard. They land into a meteorite and Shiro groans. "Is everyone okay?"
"How is she moving so fast?" Pidge asks.
"I don't know," Shiro replies, "But we have to keep fighting."
They fly back into the air and charge at the mech and throw a punch just for the mech to disappear. Lance comments, "Okay that time we definitely didn't get him."
Another charge to their side sends them flying only for the mech to hit them again but from behind. The mech keeps reappearing and disappearing to keep on hitting them for minutes.
Then the barrage of attacks end.
"How the heck can she keep on disappearing and reappearing like that?!" Hunk shouts.
"She's going into the Quintessence field at wil…." Allura responds.
"Didn't we blow up the Gate?"
"How is she entering without it?"
Allura eyes widened and she dejectly tells them, "Because me and Lotor gave those ships the ability to."
Suddenly they're thrown sideways by another attack. "This power…" Zethrid murmurs, "And it's all mine! Everyone will feel my immense power with the pain I will inflict! And it starts with your demise!"
A powerful blast rockets towards them, they form the shield just in time. But the blast still rocks them hard. But not hard enough.
"We have to go in after her. It's the only way to match her strength and stop her from going after the whole universe."
"Is that even possible?" Hunk asks.
"If she can do it, we can do it too." Pidge adds a little quieter, "Can't we?"
"My father has done it once before…..But it's dangerous." Allura comments.
"We don't have much of a choice….." Lance responds.
Shiro sighs. No they don't. Not if they want to stop Zethrid from destroying the universe. Shiro sighs again, "Allura we're going to need your help….."
"Allura can do it, though I will have to guide her." Lotor comments interrupting Shiro.
"What?"
"She has enough natural talent that it should be possible. But she didn't learn from the Lion like I did on how to channel that power. The Quintessence field is made up of concentrated Quintessence. They act as barriers between worlds, different realities. Like the one you guys experienced when trying to grab that comet. Allura needs your quintessence and hers channelled to act as a knife to open an entryway to the Quintessence field. It takes a lot of quintessence to transcend realtiles because the barrier is made of Quintessence, so yours alongside hers might be enough to get you to that field."
"Might be enough?" Hunk echoes, "And what happens if we fail?"
"I do not know. But I bid you the best of luck. Zethrid was one of my more bloodthirsty generals, so be careful."
Shiro nods, "We will."
They all close their eyes and concentrate.
Allura utters, "Form Sword."
Shiro feels Voltron move and suddenly he is bathed in a white glow as Voltron stops.
He opens his eyes and sees a vast expanse of white. In the distance he can see the mech and his jaw clenches. It's time to end this.
