Chapter 8: I become fish Food
I could only stand and watch as the Kraken tore through Atlantis 2 quicker than I thought for a beast its size. Walls were shattered down to bricks, houses no longer sat where they originally stood, and the dust made the water hard to see through. Swimming above the dust clouds didn't help either as the monster was hidden underneath, only breaking through with a tentacle every now and then. I needed to try and save Triton from the beast and save what's left of the torn apart kingdom.
My trident glowed its dim green light as I swam through the dust, trying to listen to the movements of the Kraken. The ground shook with each shattering boom, more and more dust filled in the water and soon I could no longer see an inch in front of me. Everything was now quiet as I floated in the water, small waves cut through the dust, but I could hardly make out which way was up or down. I was moved forcefully through the water by some force passing by my right side, sending me colliding into a nearby wall. The world was now spinning around me in every direction, I… I felt something warm fill the water around me and the subtle groan that came from behind me made my skin shrink wrap around my bones.
Im turned around and stared into the black eyes of the Kraken, seeing my own reflection seal my fate in the deep pools of darkness. The beast mouth opened wide, accompanied by an ear shattering roar that pushed away any dust in the water. Before I could react, the beast wrapped its slimy tentacles around my chest and lifted me up into the air then with a wide arc, I was flung into the Krakens mouth. The slime left on my shirt was the least of my worries now that I was sliding down the lumpy throat of my journey's end. I didn't try to move at all, letting gravity do most of the work. When I was dropped out an opening, air filling my lungs and expelling any water, then I was submerged in a thick liquid that felt warm to the touch.
The smell of what I could now assume was the stomach of the Kraken could only be described as the smell of over a hundred fish heads, rotting away ever so slowly. There was nothing for me to grab onto or to place myself on. The only thing I could do was float in the stomach and slowly let myself die. "A fitting end to the Sons of Poseidon" Triton's voice echoed inside the stomach and I looked around the dark red filled stomach when I saw him floating on his back and staring up at the entrance to the stomach. "Eaten by the one thing I could never tame, what a joke" Silence followed Triton's words, for minutes we didn't do or say anything.
Bubbles popped, the acid sloshed around, and Triton just stared at me with an pissed off look, that sent chills down my spine. "Aren't you going to do anything? No God like powers to
actually kill this monster?" I sounded scared as I spoke to Triton, the shakiness in my voice echoing around the stomach. "I can't just kill a monster, there's rules in place, I can keep at bay only… wait" Triton's voice started to sound excited, he moved towards and grabbed my trident from my hand. Triton reached into one of his pockets and pulled out a string necklace that showed shark teeth of different shapes and sizes hanging from the string. He tied the necklace around the meeting point of the prongs and shaft of the trident then handed it back to me.
"This should work, try it" Triton moved back away from me and I just stood there with my trident in my hand, not knowing what to do. "And the necklace is supposed to summon the help of sharks?" I said like a smart ass, "It's a blessing, the extra kick any half-blood needs to kill a beast of this size". I moved over to the… wall of the stomach and brought my trident up then back, building up enough motion to try and stab through the stomach. A loud humming was overtaking the sounds of the Kraken then a flash of green appeared from the tip of my trident as soon as it came in contact with the stomach wall. A huge rush of water came bursting through the three holes that I stabbed through, pushing me back towards the now celebrating Triton.
"Ha Ha! Keep going, break on through to the other side" The song wasn't lost on me as Triton laughed at his own words. I moved through the rushing water and stabbed at the wall again, another flash of green emitting from my trident, bringing my trident down through the flesh and tearing open the stomach. The water turned a murky gold and chunks of organs began to fill in any spaces in the stomach. I was soon trapped in the stomach of the Kraken with its own insides compacting me together. I felt my lungs fill up with a liquid that wasn't water, I was choking on the blood of the Kraken. Darkness was filling my eyes when I felt a hand grab ahold of my shoulder.
The Kraken's blood was chilling inside my lungs, so much so that the pain began to burn. I started to taste fresh fruit and fruit punch on my tongue and I felt the need to throw up. As I went to open my mouth, I could feel the blood leave my lungs and exit through my throat, my vision cleared and I felt cold water fill my lungs. Triton had pulled me out of the Kraken's stomach and was swimming up towards the top of the water. From out of nowhere came a tentacle, grabbing hold of Triton, and slamming both of us against the ground.
"How do I kill this thing!?" I yelled at Triton. "The only way that has been done was with the head of Medusa, we need to contain it back in the trench, the gems down there weaken its health" Triton pulled out a conch shell again and blew into, sending out multiple waves of sound out into the empty ocean. "We've got ten minutes until our hail mary gets her" Triton then started to glow brightly all around his body. I covered my eyes from the bright light and when I opened them I saw Triton, towering over the shattered kingdom, full on wrestling with the Kraken. I could now see the full size of the Kraken, towering taller than Triton, and the beast body was covered in tentacles, each trying to grip around nearby debris and smashing it against Triton's armor.
I could only stand and watch as the God and beast fought back and forth. Soon I was surrounded by hundreds of fish and other sea creatures. I could hear voices racing past my ear then the surrounding fish swam off towards Triton. The God's giant arms were now covered by the swarm of fish, covering each blow to the Kraken and giving off a small cloud of fish on contact. Past the pile of ruble, I could see the Kraken's tentacles sticking to the ground, with each step that Triton took shook the ground enough to loosen the Kraken's suction on the ground.
I took my trident and slammed it against the ground, sending a shockwave across the ground and completely loosening the Kraken's grip. Triton took his chance and grapled the beast, now quickly rolling towards the trench. I swam towards them, slamming my trident once again against the ground, to keep the beast on the move. The Kraken filled the trench, not seeming to fit, until Triton swam up and pulled out his conch shell then blew into the one end, sending a massive tidal wave towards the beast. The wave smashed into the monster and shoved the beast back down the trench, to be locked away forever.
"That should be the end of that" Triton moved back over towards me, shrinking back down to his more human form. "I need you to go back to your room and don't come out til I come get you" Triton's voice echoed through the now empty sea and I could only put my head down in shame. I swam back to my room and shut the door behind me, locking it while starting to lay on my bed. To wrap up my spring by only saying I'm a big idiot feels like an understatement. To be honest, I don't think I'm cut out for whatever Dad has in store for me. I just wish I could go back in time and be with my mom. With nothing useful coming to mind, I feel asleep.
I could hear waves, thunder, then claps of lighting. The smell of the ocean filled my nose and the sound of hoofs clopping along the sand followed by a loud cry of an eagle. "Your time is up Ian" A deep voice shook my head, I tried to open my eyes but all I could see was darkness. "Follow the quest" The voice kept echoing through the background noise, "WAKEUP!". I jolted up in my bed and heard a loud knocking coming from the door.
I opened the door to see Triton standing outside, with his armor and trident glaring in the light. "Follow me" He then swam off without giving me a second to wake up, as usual. We swam out to the training field and each stood a good distance from each other, as we did each morning for warmups. "I just received a message, your time with me is up and there are only two ways for you to leave" Triton's voice echoed around the shattered kingdom, his tone wasn't kind but sounded gruff and disappointed. "Hand over the bolt and you can leave here alive or fight me and see if you can beat me. If not I'm taking to Olympus then" Triton then slammed his trident against the ground and rocks started to sprout out of the ground towards me, cutting any escape for me.
"What are you talking about? I don't have any bolt?" Soon I was surrounded by rocks, forming a cave with no end. I held my trident in my hand, its green glow lighting the inside of the cave, when it was hit out of my hands by Triton who then slammed me against the back of the cave. "I'm tired of father's hidden plans, hand over the bolt or I'm taking it!" Triton once again slammed me against the rock wall, sending cracks through the newly formed stone. "Where is it?" Triton started to search through my pockets and took off my shoes, eventually tearing them apart. "I.. don't…. Know what you're… talking about" I coughed out.
Triton then picked me up and sent his trident flying through the cave roof, making a new skylight for the cave, then he took his free hand and put his fingers into his mouth and blew. "May the Gods damn you Ian" Triton then threw me through the hole in the roof and I was soon engulfed by a whale. The last thing I could remember thinking about was my mother and at least I would see her when I died.
