(Chapter 4: the immortal avatar)
Within a dark and cramped space lays a boy submerged in congealed blood. Without his knowledge an unknown amount of time has passed in the world above. Dull eyes slowly open only to close just as quickly from the sudden sting of metallic liquid. He tries to breathe only for the same liquid to enter and exit his lungs seamlessly.
"What? What the hell? This taste, is it blood? Guess I died again."
With stiffened limbs I began feeling around in the sphere of my creation, only to realize the volume of blood exceeds the volume of air by 90%. I didn't feel like I was drowning at all despite being in such a harsh environment. The amount of blood actually exceeded my body mass by five times. Something that should be impossible.
"Ha ha, man! Who would have thought the instant i step forward into the world I would get killed by an archer of all things. Not a fireball but a normal soldier with a bow and arrow. Hilarious. Well, regardless of the method it was pretty stupid to go all Wrath mode and attack the village on sight. Fire Nation or not they are just ordinary people." I brush my hand over my metallic, Razer sharp hair to calm my nerves. I was starting to feel claustrophobic at this point.
"Well, no sense wasting time down here when I have enemies to kill up there. I believe a grand entrance is long overdue."
With a thought powerful seismic waves spread out in all directions, grinding stone and splitting soil. I felt the spherical eggshell like some around me start to rise at a steady pace. The only uneffected ground for kilometers being the earth above my sphere. Much like a bubble rising in muddy water my rise to the surface slowly accelerated.
Meanwhile, on the surface chaos filled the streets as stones levitated, pots exploded, dust storms erupted, and the Air grew heavy. Cold foggy ice rocks condensed out of thin air before falling to the ground like hail. A thick dry fog filled the streets creating a ghostly atmosphere. Out of curiosity a young child picked up one of the rocks to find it was extremely cold and almost weightless. Most of all it felt to dry to be made of water.
As though a Giant had impacted the earth the statue of Avatar Jang exploded, drawing the attention of every person in the town. Before everyone's eyes a spherical object rose from the earth and began to crack as if a legendary beast is about to be born. People can feel an almost instinctive fear as though they were mear insects standing in the shadow of an apex predator.
"Look, the statue exploded."
"It must be the spirits! The spirits are attacking!"
"This fog feels unnatural."
(CRACK!!!)
"Look over there. Something came out of the statue."
Panic and confusion swept through the town as cracks spread across the surface of the unknown sphere. All at once, as if a highly pressurized container has been punctured a massive shockwave spread out in all directions. Entire crowds of people fell to the ground and blood covers the entire square. The sent of death fills the air and soon a somewhat tall and muscular figure steps forward with countless fragments of stone spinning slowly around him. With a wave of his hand a red dust separated from all the blood around him, leaving only pure water behind. It was at this moment that the image of this boy became visible to all. A massive Maine of Onix metallic hair fell down his back that seemed to absorb all the light around it. The white and green of his eyes glowing an otherworldly hue. His skin shines like sunlight, making it difficult for people to look directly at him. Looking down at his body Jang noticed two oddities. One, he was naked and two, he was much taller.
"What the heck? I'm freaking gorgeous. Shoot, I guess my fur clothes and baby blanket must have eroded. How long have I been recovering? I feel like I should be a teenager. Maybe sixteen or seventeen. And, oh." My self admiration and muttering abruptly ended when I cought sight of the large damaged city around me and the groups of gossiping women. Looking at the damaged location and the distinct lack of fire nation red, I suddenly felt like a supervillain who destroys peoples lively hoods needlessly. The silence and wide eyed gazes of so many people isn't helping. Even the babies are refusing to cry at this moment. I rubbed my forehead feeling uncomfortable.
"Yeah, my bad. I kinda know sorry doesn't cover it but. Sorry for all the damage. I know I'm In no position to make requests but I would appreciate it if someone would give me something to wear." Contrary to what I expected, the first words that I heard was not a passing of judgement.
"Avatar Jang!!! The Avatar has returned to life!!" As soon as the words were spoken the entire town erupted in cheers. I was so shocked by the outburst that a actually fell over. Who the hell was Avatar Jang?
"At that time I didn't know what was happening. Strangely enough that was the day I heard name for the first time. All of that happened two weeks ago and somehow the title of Avatar Jang had been forced apon me. As a result and now find myself glaring down a platoon of two hundred fire nation soldiers in their own camp.
"Yeah. So I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume I took a wrong turn by that last waterfall." Jang mumbled to himself, not feeling threatened in the slightest. Red and yellow tents had been set up in neatly packed rows so my sudden appearance from the woods in the dead center of camp had been instantly noticed. The fact that my body is literally glowing like a beacon isn't helping my case.
A nervous captain stepped forward followed by more than a dozen fire benders. I was confused for a second before I remembered how the last soldiers I met thought I was a spirit.
"Such superstitious idiots." I thought. The overweight middle aged man wearing a captain's armor stepped forward after putting on what he must have thought was an intimidating expression. "Who goes there!" he bellowed with a pompousness that I found completely annoying. "How dare you trespass in Fire Nation controlled land. Speak quickly or we won't show mercy. I frowned in annoyance. Despite my body's current stamina and endurance spending five days straight without sleep or rest can grind one's patients. Admittedly moving non-stop was a personal decision but emotion and logic seldom see eye to eye. I also found out my age after learning Princess Azula had recently turned fifteen. Turns out I'm actually thirteen years old with an overly developed body and I got all the unstable emotions to go with it. So naturally i said the first shot that enters my head.
"How dare you, a mere mortal speak a god in such a manner. Bow down before my Greatness." After those words left my mouth I face palm in embarrassment. Those words just appeared in my head because my current outfit was almost a perfect match for Beerus's god of destruction outfit. The only difference was that all the blues have been replaced with green. I ultimately removed my hand from my face and decided to roll with it. Who knows. I might be able to Hakai some poor bastards.
The captain's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets in anger. He gritts his teeth and his face contorts. "How dare you mock me boy!" He shouts. "Guards, seize him!"
"We will see who is mocking who soon enough won't we." Jang simply crosses his arms before channeling his chi into his surroundings. The ground begins to shake, not violently, but with enough force to create vibrations in their bones. The fire nation soldiers look around in fear. I could almost hear the thoughts racing through their heads. "Is this really a spirit? What do we do? What did we do to anger it?" A few of the more superstitious ones almost took a step back. But the fear of their captains wrath pushes them forward.
The captain himself seems to be the only one not affected by the tremor. "Do you think we fear your cheap parlor tricks, earth bender?" He sneers. He waves his hand dismissively and his fire benders advance, the flames in their hands growing in intensity. Jang's eyes narrow, a smirk playing on his lips. He's tired of their fear-mongering and arrogance. With a swift movement, he sends a pulse of energy into the ground and suddenly the earth beneath several of the tents erupted as though a land mine had gone off. Multiple loud booms echo and waves of intense heat swept through the environment. Even if Jang hasn't been able to truly lava bend yet it wasn't a problem to super heat the air inside these flammable tents fast enough to ignite the air. With a smile Jang steps forward while cracking his knuckles threateningly. Massive title waves of rolling dirt quickly in circles the entire camp cutting off all roots of escape.
"Now that you have made your choice, don't expect me to show any mercy." Jang says calmly, the fire benders charging at him no longer caring for their lives. He could feel the heat of their flames as they approached, but it barely registered. The power coursing through him was rising with each step. It was like he was a living volcano, ready to unleash his fury upon them. Right now something in his blood seemed to boil. An almost primal thrill filling his cells as his muscles tense for battle. His body seemed to be crying out for blood as if to say it's not enough. Unknown to Jang at this moment, his adaptive regeneration was on the verge of undergoing an evolution. And for this ability there is only one way. The body must take damage.
