"Look, I know for a fact he'll take that step," James Potter stated.
Ron glanced at his best friend's father, not believing him at all. It was the Christmas holidays, and because of tradition, he and James were in charge of pranking Harry. The twins did the rest of the pranks—along with Mr Lupin and Mr Black, so this was their moment.
It started when he was eleven and wanted to prove to James that they would be able to prank Harry and get away with it. He remembered Harry's bright green hair like it was yesterday.
He loved spending the holidays with the Potters. If they weren't around, it wouldn't be the same. It didn't come up that they saved the world from the Dark Lord. They were a loving, normal wizarding family.
"What if this one time he decides not to?" Ron asked in a hushed whisper. "We should have gone with the stink bomb—"
"This is more fun. Now move back, if he sees your hair before then, we're done for, and as a lifelong prankster, I can't be having that," James said passionately.
"Well, move your feet then! Your shoe is sticking out behind the doorway!" he replied, chuckling good-naturedly.
He always looked forward to this moment, spending time with those he loved. This bit in particular…well, let's just say he always started planning for next year's Christmas prank the moment he got home.
There was silence for a moment as they listened to the floorboards upstairs. Soon, there were heavy footsteps coming downstairs. They both glanced at each other with a huge, mischievous grin.
Sure enough, there was a very quiet 'ow' as Harry walked into some cling film and they heard him trip over the last couple of steps as he fell. Ron and James went over to check with everyone else to see the result of their prank. He helped his friend up, chuckling.
"What happened, are you alright?" he asked, innocently, hiding behind a smile.
"Yeah, what happened, son? No broken bones?"
Harry looked at them both with determination. "A prank war just started, no one is safe."
Ron nodded at James—they would win this.
