Chapter Seventy-Nine: Plan

Kagome blinked as she caught sight of multiple missed calls and text messages from her husband, each one growing more frantic than the last.

She quickly dialed his number back and barely heard the first ring before his panicked voice came through the other end of the phone.

"What's wrong, Touya?" She asked with no small amount of concern.

Her husband was prone to being overprotective but not to the point of blowing up her phone and nearly having a panic attack. Something must've happened at work today to spook him.

"Where are you?" She heard his voice both through the phone line and somewhere next to her. Kagome quietly hung up the before before she looped her arm through his.

"I'm right here." She tried to reassure him, "I saw some of your messages. What'd happened?"

Her husband breathed a sigh of relief as he pulled her close to his side.

"I'll explain on the way. Right now we need to get you back home." He turned his head from side to side, as if scanning the building for any possible threats.

"So uh, should I follow?" A man she'd never met before asked sheepishly.

He had a roguishly handsome face and the scarlet wings on his back certainly drew people's attention. Still, he wasn't quite as attractive as her husband although she'd fully admit to being biased.

"Yeah, sure." Touya gave him a half-hearted response.

Kagome wanted to ask him more about what was going on but she had a feeling that he wouldn't answer her if she did. He was far too wound up at the moment. She could focus on trying to calm him down after they got home.

Touya quickly led them to his parked cruiser. He helped her into the passenger seat before forcing the stranger to take the back seat. Touya did not turn on his lights or sirens but he did drive significantly faster than normal, shifting through traffic until they'd pulled up to their house.

Shouto was already waiting outside with Katsuo in one arm and Tatsuo in the other.

"You're home early," The boy glanced up at them in concern.

Touya carefully scooped their sons into his arms as he brought everyone inside. Afterwards he placed both Katsuo and Tatsuo into her arms. Her twins giggled as they clutched at her chest and shoulders, taking delight in the fact that both of their parents were home.

"Kagome," Her husband addressed her directly. "What happened with your meet up with Kikyou earlier?"

Her brows furrowed with concern. Something had most certainly happened, especially if Touya was asking her about the conversation and had even brought a virtual stranger into their home.

Kagome took a small breath through her nose before she related the entire discussion she'd had with her twin.

"Sesshoumaru was in a meeting so I hadn't been able to reach him yet. He'll probably call back within the hour." She finished, holding out her phone for Touya to take just in case he wanted to see the messages for himself.

He simply pushed it back towards her, more concerned with checking her over just to be safe.

"Don't meet up with her again for the time being." Touya warned, his voice sharp with the fear and protectiveness she knew he felt. "We're currently looking for Inuyasha right now. If he finds you while looking for her…" He cut himself off.

Kagome held their sons even closer to herself at the thought.

The blond stranger looked between them in confusion, "Hold on I'm a little lost here. How are you and Higurashi connected in the first place?"

Touya answered before she could respond, "They're twins. Kikyou wanted to reconcile with Kagome."

The man blinked before recognition overtook his features.

"Oh! So that's why you looked so familiar! You two are those love birds from the Sports Festival a couple of years ago!" The man flashed them a wide grin, "To think you guys would be married with kids now. Oh but what happened to your scars? I totally didn't even recognize you Todoroki."

"It's Tensei." Her husband sniped back, "And get serious Hawks. It's not just Kikyou that could be his target."

Now she fully understood what'd happened.

Touya was afraid that Inuyasha would find her. On top of that, given his past history with women, there was no telling what he would attempt in order to get what he wanted.

"Touya, maybe we should explain more." She tried to soothe her husband's concerns. "If you're trusting this man to help you, then maybe you should give him the full story."

She then turned her attention to the blond and formally introduced herself.

"My name is Tensei Kagome and I apologize that we had to meet under these circumstances." She then took a breath as she began to explain her past history with Inuyasha, Kikyou and finally Touya.

"That's a real soap opera if I ever heard of one." The pro hero gave an awkward laugh.

Touya glowered at him, causing the man to rub his neck sheepishly.

"I get the gist of the situation now. If you don't mind, I'd like to talk to Sesshoumaru as well. It'd be easier if we can work together to formulate a plan." He then glanced at Touya, "That goes for you too. Justice only works if all three parts come together to work cohesively. Pro heroes, law enforcement and lawyers. We should use this as an opportunity to bring Inuyasha to justice."

None of them argued against that. It was something they could all agree on.

"Now as for you," Hawks turned towards her. "Your husband has already voiced his opinion about protective custody."

Kagome shot him a curious look but Touya merely shrugged his shoulders.

"So I suggest maintaining a buddy system for the time being. If you have to go out, bring someone with you that you can rely on. Also having as many family members over as possible to stay with you during this time could act as a deterrent." Hawks pinned her with a pointed look, "It's not fool proof but it's better than nothing. I'll assign some guys to keep an eye on your sister as well to be safe."

Kagome offered him a short inclination of her head, "I would appreciate that."

These next few weeks would be stressful but at least they would work through this as a family.

"I need to make a call." Touya paused just long enough to kiss her and the twins before he stepped away. "There's someone else we should bring onto this case."

Kagome blinked as her husband stepped outside.

She had a sneaky suspicion that she knew who he was calling.

She just hoped that it would be the right decision.

Katsuo and Tatsuo giggled as they tugged on the strands of her hair.

A soft smile pulled at the corners of her lips.

Wherever Inuyasha was at, she knew that if he tried anything, she'd be more than willing to carve up his hide and turn it into leather if he so much as laid a hand on her family.

Kagome smiled down at her boys, "Who wants to play with uncle Shou?"

For now, she would keep them safe.
