Hey Yugioh fans of mine! How have you been?
Well, I'm hoping I can update every six months (I hope) so you guys don't have to wait like a year – not freaking my fault!
Anyhow, enjoy the update. Cario for now!
-Duel Academy, main building-
Vante, Sho and Hayato were walking through the hallway as they were killing some time for Jaden to finish his shift when they spotted a bunch of Obelisk blues, whispering to each other.
"Hey, what's the news?" Vante asked with curiosity.
The Obelisk blue students stopped talking, looked at them with disgust before walking away.
Vante gritted his teeth, "What are they up to?"
"Not sure, but they look like they are planning something," said Sho.
Hayato shook his head, "No, it's probably about the rumor that's been circulating."
"Rumor?" Vante said, lifting his left eyebrow.
"Apparently, there's a duelist who's been forcing Obelisk blues to duel. And they're all ante duels, which are forbidden by the school," explained Chumley.
"Ah! I've heard that rumor, too!" Sho gasped.
"I don't know all the details, but they say the duelist is a guy that's as big as a mountain," continued Hayato as Sho nodded. "And he only appears at night. So, he's called the 'Giant Night Duelist."
Vante narrowed his eyes.
On the other side of the hallway, Chronos was walking as he was thinking about the mysterious attacks at night.
"This is not got. My Obelisk blue students are losing against this mysterious duelist," Chronos gritted his teeth, "Not only that, but it's an ante rule duels which is forbidden here! If this gets out, I'll be found negligent as their head house!"
That's when he spotted Vante and his friends.
He smiled, "I know… I shall put the task to them," he then ran towards to Vante and his friends, "Pardon me, dropout boys!"
"Chronos-Sensei!" Sho said in surprised.
"I have a special assignment for the two of you," said Chronos.
Vante lifted his left eyebrow, "A special…"
"…assignment?" Sho finished as he looked over at Hayato with confusion.
Chronos nodded, "If you can resolve this little problem, I shall waive your report on dueling strategy! What do you say?"
"Um, I don't think this is…" Sho started but was interrupted by Vante.
"Deal!" Vante said, happily.
Sho and Hayato sighed, dramatically.
"So, what's the assignment?" Vante asked.
"Well, in this academy, a pesky fellow has been challenging players to an ante rule duels," said Chronos. "You must catch him and expose his identity!"
"The Giant Night Duelist? The one that is beating your Obelisk blues," Vante smirked.
Chronos made a face, "Y-Yes, I see that you are well informed…canzone," he then walked away from them with a smirk on his face, 'If they find the mysterious duelist, that is quite fine. And if they fail and their rare cards are lost it is no less than they deserve. Yes, indeed…'
"Right! Let's go start the hunt for that Giant Night Duelist!" Vante said, excitedly.
"But Vante, I don't think this is such a good idea," murmured Sho.
"What do you mean?" Vante asked.
"It's Chronos-Sensei, he doesn't like you," stated Hayato.
Vante scratched his cheek, "Mm, that's true…but, hey if we do this, we get our report waived, and I get to duel this incredible duelist."
Sho sighed, "Oh, Vante…"
Hayato sighed, "There's no stopping him, Sho."
"That what do we do, Vante? To find this mysterious duelist," said Sho.
Vante tapped his chin, before grinning, "I'll think of something… soon."
They walked a bit in the hall before entering the Obelisk duel arena, where an Obelisk student is dueling against a small Ra student. The Obelisk student has a set card, 200 life points and Marauding Captain on the field. On the other side, the Ra student has 300 life points and Mad Sword Beast on his field.
"Hey, that Ra Yellow is winning," said Sho as he took a sit.
Hayato nodded, "This looks like a good match!"
At the arena, the Obelisk student was getting frustrated.
"Hey, what's wrong? It's your turn!"
The small Ra student was getting nervous, "Oh… um…"
Vante looked closely at the Ra student's hand, 'Mm, Earthquake… that's a nice card he has,' that's when he smirked a bit, 'This victory is decided.'
The Ra was looking at his hand, 'If I attack now, I can win. But I'm also worried about his facedown card… maybe it would be better to use Earthquake to switch Marauding Captain to defense position first…but…'
"Get to it already! I've been taking it easy on you up till now!"
The Ra student started to shake from nervousness.
"There's nothing you can do, Ra Yellow!"
"You can't win!"
With all the pressure, the Ra Yellow student was having trouble deciding what to do.
"Well, are you attacking or not?! Just decided!"
The Ra student flinched, "O-Okay – I attack with Mad Sword Beast!"
"What?!" Vante said in disbelief while his friends looked at him with confusion.
The beast started to attack the Obelisk's captain, but the Obelisk student smirked.
"I activate my set card, Reinforcements! This card's effect increases the monster's attack points by 500. Go, Marauding Captain!"
The captain dashed to the beast with attack points to 1700, destroying the beast and Kohara lost all his life points. He dropped on his knees.
Vante frowned, "He could've won the duel."
"The reason why Kohara lost, is because he needs a little more backbone."
Vante and his friends turned their heads to see Misawa, Jaden and Nagisa.
"Hey there mates. Finished with your shift, Jay?" Vante said.
"Yea, Nagisa and Misawa got me when I was just finishing," said Jaden before looking over at the arena. "So, that's Kohara you mention, Misawa."
Misawa nodded, "He has skills, but when it comes to an actual duel, his timidity asserts itself, and he ends up losing."
"Someone like you will never make it into Obelisk Blue."
With his head looking down at the floor, Kohara was gritting his teeth angrily while the four Obelisks were laughing their butt off.
"You should just quit already!"
Kohara simply got up and started to walk off from the arena, but just as he was walking away, he gave a glare at the Obelisks.
Jaden gasped a bit as Winged Kuriboh appeared next to him. He slightly turned his eyes at the small duel spirit, 'You also felt it, huh?'
"Kuri! Kuri!"
"We were just looking for you guys before we saw there was dueling going on," said Nagisa. She took out her tongue a bit, "Misawa wanted to come and observe the duel. Why are you guys doing here?"
"We're here to search for the culprit," explained Sho.
"The…" started Misawa.
"…culprit?" Nagisa finished.
"We're looking for the Giant Night Duelist," answered Sho.
"Ah, yes. I've heard the rumors," said Misawa as Jaden nodded.
"So, did I. And I want to test my skills by dueling him," said Nagisa.
Jaden looked over at one of the exits where the Ra student was leaving and spotted someone waiting for him.
"Hey, it's Ohara," said Jaden.
"Holy – that's one big guy," said Vante with widened eyes.
Sho nodded, "Hey, you guys don't think he could be the one?"
Misawa laughed, "You suspect him? You couldn't be more wrong."
"But there aren't many guys that big around here," stated Sho.
"No, he's trying to become a game designer, not a duelist," explained Misawa.
"And he's not that bad either. I saw a few of his works," said Nagisa.
Both the small and tall Ra Yellow students left the arena.
"Oh… but…" said Sho.
That's when Winged Kuriboh appeared again by Jaden's side. The brunette nodded a bit, 'Yeah, I don't feel it from him,' that's when Jaden started to run after them.
"W-Wait! Aniki!" Sho said before he, Nagisa, Vante, and Hayato followed him, leaving Misawa behind.
At the hallway, the two Ra Yellow students were walking when some Obelisk blues stopped in front of them.
"You, Ra Yellows walking in the middle of the hall…"
Ohara looked down at him with a slight frown.
"At times like this, you should yield for us! That's the natural order! So, step aside!"
Ohara just stood there until Kohara tugged on his sleeve, gesturing to him to move.
"Okay. Good. Now you know where you stand!"
Kohara gritted his teeth until he heard someone shouting at them. He turned his head to see it was Jaden and his friends were running towards them.
"Wait up for a minute!" Jaden shouted.
The five of them caught up to them Kohara backed a bit to Ohara.
"So, you're the Giant Night Duelist," said Jaden.
Ohara gasped while Kohara glared at the brunette.
"What do you want?" Kohara asked, harshly.
"You should stop dueling just the Obelisk blues, and duel me," said Jaden.
"Judai! Aniki?! Jay?!"
Ohara looked rather a bit uncomfortable.
"Stop talking nonsense," Kohara pulled Ohara's sleeve, "Let's go."
Ohara nodded, "…right."
Jaden just crossed his arms while his friends looked at him with confusion.
"Jay, why do you think he's the Duel Giant?" Vante asked.
"Yea, Misawa already said it isn't him," said Hayato.
"Yeah. He was so spacey, he didn't feel like the Giant Night Duelist at all," said Sho.
Winged Kuriboh appeared again by Jaden's side and gave him a message to him. The brunette nodded, 'Yeah, I know.'
-Night, Ra Yellow dorm-
"Damn it… They're always mocking me!" Kohara said as he was rearranging his deck with Ohara. "Those Obelisk guys…"
Meanwhile, near the main building entrance, Jaden and his friends were waiting.
"Aniki, do you really think he's going to show up?" Sho asked.
Vante yawned, "Yea… I'm going to drop dead if this mysterious duelist doesn't show up."
"Shh! Quiet, both of you," said Jaden.
"You know, in the time we're spending on this, you guys could've finished your report," said Hayato as Jaden agreed.
Suddenly, they heard screaming from the forest.
"Let's go!" Jaden said, dashing into the forest.
"Finally! Some action!" Vante said, running behind Jaden.
"W-Wait! Aniki! Vante!" Sho said as he and Hayato ran after them.
The four dashed into the forest and in a couple of minutes, they found an Obelisk student on the ground.
"Which way did he go?" Jaden asked.
The Obelisk student pointed to the direction where the giant took off to.
The brunette looked at the direction where the Obelisk student pointed to and started running to that direction. Vante was close by him while Sho and Hayato just ran pass the fallen Obelisk, but Hayato noticed something about the Obelisk.
'That's the guy from this afternoon,' thought Hayato.
They continued to run until they spotted a figure rather tall.
"Wait!" Jaden called out. "You're the Giant Night Duelist, aren't you?"
The tall, cloaked figure has his back turned on them, but his cloak was a mix of multiple blue blazers.
Sho gasped, "Wow! He really is big!"
The giant turned around, but his face was covered.
"A-Aniki… let's just go…" said Sho as Hayato agreed.
"No way. And miss this chance to duel against him," said Vante, but Jaden stopped him.
"Let me handle this one," said the brunette.
Vante pouted, "Fine…"
Jaden smirked a bit before turning his attention to the giant duelist, "So, if I want to duel you, it must be under the ante rules, right?"
The giant simply nodded.
That's when Winged Kuriboh appeared again by Jaden's side.
'I see… so, you want to fight as well, pal?' Jaden pulled out a card, "Fine, if I lose, then I'll give you this card."
Vante widened his eyes, "Mate, you didn't just…"
"What about that card, Vante?" Sho asked.
"This rare card was given to me… by the Duel King himself, Yugi Muto," explained Jaden.
Sho gasped, "Something so valuable…"
"He's serious if he is offering that card," said Hayato.
"…very well, don't regret it later," said the giant.
"Then let's go!" Jaden said as he activated his duel disk.
"Duel!"
Jaden: 4000 / The Giant: 4000
"My turn, draw! I summon Giant Orc (2200/0) in attack mode," said the giant.
"Merlin! Right off the bat with a monster that has 2200 attack points!" Vante said, dramatically as Sho nodded.
"I can see how he defeated those Obelisk blues," murmured Hayato.
"But after that monster attacks, it switches to defense mode," Jaden smirked a bit, "And it has zero defense points. It isn't that fearsome."
"…my turn is over," said the giant.
"My turn, draw!" Jaden looked at his hand, "Right, you wanted to fight with me so – I summon Winged Kuriboh in defense mode. I end my turn."
"…m-my turn, draw… I attack Winged Kuriboh with Giant Orc," said the giant. The giant Orc hammered his club bone down to the small winged kuriboh, destroying it.
"Thanks, pal. Now, Giant Orc will switch to defense mode," said Jaden.
"Great! Now he can beat Giant Orc in his turn," said Sho.
"…how naïve… I also summon Second Goblin in attack mode," said the giant, but he didn't place it in the field, but rather…
"Huh? A monster card played from his spell slot?" Sho said, confused.
A small goblin appeared before standing on top of the giant orc.
"Once per turn, it can be equipped to Giant Orc as an equip spell to switch Giant Orc to attack mode," explained the giant.
Vante, Sho, and Hayato gasped.
"Oh, no! This isn't good!" Sho said.
"Very well thought out play," said Vante.
Hayato nodded, "A well-devised combo."
"I end my turn," said the giant.
"My turn, draw!" Jaden looked at his hand, "I activate the spell card, Fusion from my hand! I fused Elemental Heros Clayman and Burstinatrix in my hand, to summon Elemental Hero Rampart Blaster (2000/2500) in defense mode. Next, I activate Rampart Blaster's special ability! While in defense mode, this card can deal half of its attack points as damage to you!"
The machine warrior hero aimed and fired her missiles at the giant who loses 1000 life points.
Giant: 3000
The attack destroys the giant's cloak that revealed it was Ohara.
Vante, Sho, and Hayato gasped while Jaden smirked.
"Know it," said the brunette.
"Ohara!" Sho said.
"It really was him!" Hayato said.
Vante sighed, "Should have never doubted Jay. When he's right, he's right."
Ohara back away a bit, "What… What do I do?"
Jaden placed his hands on his hips, "Why not have your little buddy come out already? I want a proper duel against him, face-to-face!"
Vante, Sho, and Hayato looked confused again.
Behind Ohara was a giant boulder which Kohara came out from.
"Wait, that's…" started Hayato.
"Kohara?" Sho said.
Vante had an annoyed face, "Right, what's going on?"
"How did you know?" Kohara asked, angrily.
Jaden closed his eyes, "Even though we were dueling, I didn't sense any fighting spirit from Ohara. It was like dueling a puppet opponent."
"That's right," Kohara took off his earpiece, "He's just been dueling according to my instructions."
"I saw a bit of your duel," said Jaden, reopening his eyes, "You're really good, you know?"
Ohara backed a bit, closer to his small friend.
"Then why are you doing this? Just duel the normal way," said Sho.
"If I could do that, there wouldn't be a problem!" Kohara snapped.
Vante, Sho, and Hayato frowned a bit.
"It isn't like I get nervous because I want to," Kohara looked down at his hands, "When I'm out there, in the dueling arena, feeling the pressure from my opponent… suddenly, I don't know what's what, and I end up losing."
Jaden and Vante looked at them with some understanding.
Kohara then placed his hand on Ohara's shoulder, "Ohara feels the same way. Just because he's a big guy, people are afraid of him and act like he's in the way," then he gritted his teeth, "Those Obelisk blues mock us!"
He recalls the day when the two started to build a deck just for them to duel against anyone that messed with them. Mostly the snobby Obelisk blue students.
"So, that's why you fought them with the ante rules?" Sho asked.
"But does that have any meaning, mate?" Vante asked.
"What?" Kohara said. "What do you mean?"
"He means if you don't like losing duels, then put the effort in win them… fairly," Jaden then grinned, "You'll probably enjoy the duels more that way, anyway!"
Kohara slightly softened his face a bit, but seeing Jaden's smiling face made him shake his head. "Shut up! Shut up! We'll win, no matter what you do! Let's go, Ohara!
Ohara nodded, "My turn, draw," then showed the cards to Kohara.
"I summon Goblin King (ATK: 0) in attack mode," said Kohara, taking over the duel.
Jaden tilted his head, "Zero attack points?"
Vante narrowed his eyes, 'What is he planning?'
"Then, by discarding a warrior type monster," Ohara placed two warrior monsters into the graveyard. "I can special summon Half Goblin (DEF: 500) in defense mode. Next, I activate Goblin King's effect! Its attack and defense points become equal to the number of other fiend type monster on the field multiplied by 1000!"
Goblin King, ATK: 3000
"What?!" Jaden and Vante said.
"3000 attack points?!" Hayato said.
"Oh, this is not good!" Sho said, dramatically.
"Go, Goblin King! Attack Rampart Blaster," said Kohara. The small goblin with the royal red robe punched the Rampart, destroying it. "Next, I attack you directly with Giant Orc!"
The giant orc swinged his club bone onto Jaden, making him lose 2200 life points.
Jaden: 1800
"Through his equipped Second Goblin's effect, Giant Orc returns to attack mode. I end my turn," Kohara looked at Jaden with a slight smug look, "What do you think? I'm strong, huh?"
Jaden narrowed his eyes, "No, you're just playing at being strong by getting someone else's help. You can't become a real duelist that way!"
"Yeah! What you're doing is the cowardly way!" Vante snapped.
Kohara gritted his teeth.
"My turn, draw!" Jaden looked again at his hand, "I activate the spell card, Pot of Greed from my hand. I draw two cards," he looked at the new cards, "Next, I summon Elemental Hero Sparkman (ATK: 1600) in attack mode! Then, I activate the equip spell, Spark Blaster! I equip it to Sparkman and activate its effect! Sparkman can switch a monster's battle mode three times."
The two half goblins were switched to attack mode and the giant orc switched to defense mode.
"What?!" Kohara said.
"It isn't over yet," said Jaden as the blaster in Sparkman's hand was destroyed. "I activate my spell card, The Warrior Returning Alive! This lets me move one warrior type card from my graveyard to my hand," taking out a card from his graveyard slot, "Next, I activate my spell card, Fusion! I fuse Clayman in my hand with Sparkman on the field, to summon Thunder Giant (ATK: 2400)! I activate its effect! Thunder Giant can destroy one monster whose original attack points are lower than its own. Destroy Giant Orc! Vapor Spark!
The thunder warrior let out some lightning to the giant orc, destroying it.
"Next, I attack Half Goblin with Thunder Giant – Voltic Thunder!" Jaden said.
The thunder warrior placed his hand in front of the small goblin, destroying it as well. Making Kohara lose 1900 life points.
Kohara: 1100
Kohara gritted his teeth, "It's not over yet. I still have some life points left!"
"Who said I was finished. I active my spell card, De-Fusion!" Jaden said as Thunder Giant defused back to Sparkman and Clayman in attack mode. "Now, I attack Half Goblin with Clayman!"
The stone warrior attacked the goblin, destroying it and making Kohara lose 300 life points.
Kohara: 800
"Here's the last one! I attack Goblin King with Sparkman!" Jaden said.
The blue lightning warrior attacked the small king goblin, destroying it and Kohara lost all his life points.
"Way to go, Jay!" Vante said.
"A-Amazing, aniki," said Sho in awe.
"That was one momentous attack," said Hayato.
"We… lost. Do what you want," said Kohara who was staring at the ground in defeat.
"Kohara…" Ohara stared at his small friend before looking at Jaden, "Please forgive Kohara."
"Ohara…" said Kohara, softly.
"You're a true friend and you even got mad on my behalf and defended me… which made me happy. So, that's why I want to do something for you," said Ohara.
Kohara looked at him with disbelief.
"I know you will become a strong duelist someday," continued Ohara.
"But what about you becoming a game designer?" Kohara said.
Ohara smiled a bit, "Don't worry about me."
"Ohara…" said Kohara, softly.
"Now, that's what I can a good friendship," said Jaden, grinning. "A true duelist needs the strength to fight by himself… but friendship is important, too."
The two Ra Yellows just looked at Jaden.
"Go on. I didn't say anything if you lose, so go and let's do this again sometime," said Jaden.
Kohara smiled a bit before the two got up from the ground. Then he addressed to the brunette, "Someday, I'll be stronger, and I'll become a real duelist. Wait until that day."
Vante grinned, "And on that day, you get to duel me too."
The two Ra Yellows nodded before dashing into the forest, back to their dorms.
That's when Sho realized something, "Um, Vante, that means… we'll have to write that report after all."
Vante blinked his eyes before having a dreadful face.
By morning, in class, Vante and Sho were doing their report while telling Chronos what happened last night. Hayato was just watching while Jaden was working at the card shop.
"So, you say there was no mysterious duelist? But-But that cannot be!" Chronos said.
"Well, we looked everywhere, but we couldn't find anyone. So, what can we do?" Vante said as he was writing his report.
"But-But the Obelisk blue students' rare cards were stolen!" Chronos countered.
"Stolen? Na, I heard that they just misplaced them," said Vante.
Chronos looked at him with slight disbelief.
Meanwhile outside, several Obelisk blue students were gathered around, chatting among themselves.
"Hey! My Machine King is back!"
"Mine, too! Thank goodness!"
"It's nice to have our cards back, huh?"
Hidden, the two Ra Yellows were smiling at each other.
Back in the classroom, Chronos was confused. "What's going on here? Tartar sauce! Plentiful vegetables!"
