The almost absolute silence in the empty streets was more than palpable. The only thing that interrupted that peace was a strange sound.
The passing of the hours began to be noticed, as the sun was slowly approaching the horizon to shed its last hours of light.
A traffic light covered in blood lay on the ground, the device was still working despite its poor condition.
The strange sound became even more present when a large torrent of flames came into focus over a house and the street, where a car and a truck were almost completely charred, indicating that the incident had taken place several hours ago.
There was no trace of the driver of the car, but the fact that the front of the vehicle was completely crushed indicated that his death had been quick and painless. Unfortunately, the truck driver had not been so lucky, as a traffic light went through the windshield and impaled him in his right shoulder, or that seemed to be the case. His completely charred body made it difficult to deduce with complete accuracy, but one thing was obvious.
Evidently the individual would have preferred to die at the hands of those "things" than to die an extremely slow and painful death at the hands of fire.
Speaking of those "things," they were hanging around the area of the accident. Some of them had even caught fire, and some of them even died from it.
But that didn't matter...
After all, it would take setting the whole neighborhood on fire to bring down the huge horde of zombies that were roaming around that place.
The silent motorcycle stopped at a nearby corner, and both Takashi and Saeko gaped at the sight of the hundreds of zombies that were crowded together and taking over absolutely every inch of the neighborhood.
"It already seemed strange to me that the last few streets were so quiet..." Takashi whispered in some disbelief at what he was seeing.
"Apparently they're being attracted by the sound of the fire, and I'm sure by the previous explosion as well." Saeko deduced as she saw how all the zombies seemed intent on getting into the fire.
"They all work like a damn swarm. Good thing we figured out about the sound in time." Takashi commented, putting his hood back on.
"The good thing is that thanks to this the next streets will also be clear and we won't have much trouble getting to the apartment." Saeko shook the katana to remove the blood after her words.
"You're right..." Takashi nodded, then pressed the throttle.
The motorcycle headed for the last leg of the ride in complete silence, but before that Takashi said a few last words.
"It seems strange to me that we're having such great luck."
_ CHAPTER 14: DEADLY SKIES _
Hisashi lay down on the large armchair in the small living room. A light layer of sweat covered his face, and his breathing was a bit ragged. The young man fixed his gaze on his amputated arm for a few seconds, until he laid his head back on the cushion with a long sigh.
"Here you go." Shizuka appeared at his side with a glass of water and two pills.
"¿What are this?" Hisashi asked, letting the pills fall on his hand.
"They're more painkillers. This will help you with the pain and keep your fever from spiking." The nurse explained, receiving a nod in response.
"Thank you." Hisashi thanked her before taking the pills, then lifting his head slightly to drink the water. "¿How long will it take for me to get better?" He asked hesitantly.
"I was able to treat you properly in the infirmary, so you should be fine by tomorrow. But that doesn't mean you can do any risky activities. You have to prioritize the healing of your wound if you want to make a full recovery." All Hisashi did was let his head fall back on the cushion once more, though his gaze made it clear that he didn't like the idea of being a burden.
"¿Are there no more clothes than these, Shizuka-sensei?" Rei appeared in one of the many bedrooms on the second floor with only some pajamas, women's underwear and a cooking apron.
"I found these." Saya appeared from another room wearing some really small shorts and shirt. "It's a direct invitation to end up in the arms of hypothermia." Declared the dwarf with a disgusted look.
"Come on, don't be so over the top." Rei scoffed with a giggle.
"¿Why is there only women's lower underwear? ¿Doesn't your friend wear a bra?" Hirano was the only one to ask that question, who was sitting next to the balcony next to two boxes that were tightly closed.
"It's just that we girls are used to only wearing that when we're alone." Shizuka stated with an innocent smile, making the two men in the apartment blush.
"¿How come she can say that so calmly?" They both wondered with a nervous bead of sweat.
Just before they continued the awkward small talk, the door was knocked a couple of times.
Instant smiles appeared on everyone's face, and the first to react was Rei, who rushed out to the door.
"¡Takashi!" Rei opened the door with much excitement, and just as she was about to jump on Takashi to hug him she stopped in her tracks.
The reason was described by a single name:
Saeko.
She was hugging him around the waist with the intention of holding him close.
It was a simple enough gesture, but that very simplicity made things more than clear.
And if that wasn't clear enough, you only needed to see the look Saeko gave her.
She was definitely marking her territory, though no one else seemed to notice besides Rei.
At such a hostile gesture, Rei could only turn away from the entrance in utter disbelief as she watched the two enter.
"¡Takashi, Saeko!" This time, the one who shouted was Hirano, and Saeko accepted with a kind smile the hug he gave to both of them.
Shizuka just watched in the distance with her typical soothing smile, while Saya wore a proud expression on her face.
"Close the door, it's cold." Saeko turned her face slightly to look at Rei.
Again, that feeling of distress and danger returned to her, so all she could do was nod.
Rei closed the door, and her conflicted look became completely paralyzed as she thought about everything that had just happened.
Before, she always got the feeling that Saeko was interested in Takashi.
But this time it wasn't.
It wasn't just a feeling, she was sure of that.
Otherwise, ¿why would she give her that death stare when she wanted to hug Takashi?
She already knew that look quite well, as she almost died at her hands once.
The thoughts that hovered over her mind made her react, so it didn't take her long to clench her fists in great anger.
"I'm not giving him to you, you deranged bitch." Rei ventured into the living room with those thoughts, but her hurried steps stopped when she focused her gaze on Takashi, seeing that he was talking to Hisashi.
"It's just a little fever, I'll be fine." Replied the albino with a smile, receiving a nod from the brown.
"Shit, you need to take a bath. You almost stink as much as Takashi." Commented Saya, who had her nose held.
"¿Really?" Saeko wondered with intrigue as she observed herself looking completely disheveled, as her clothes and part of her face was covered with somewhat dried blood, and better not to mention her messy hair.
"¡That's a good idea!" Everyone looked at Shizuka with intrigue. "¿Why don't we have a bath among women? We always do that with my girlfriends." Commented the nurse with her two hands clasped together.
"That sounds like fun." Saya couldn't help but sketch a smile after her words.
"If you girls want to take a bath, then I..."
"You're coming with us." Saeko interrupted Rei immediately, causing the tension to grow between the two, something that confused everyone.
"¿Huh?¿¡ Why should I listen to you!?" Rei accused with narrowed eyes.
"¿Girls?" Hirano spoke with utmost confusion.
"If you're not going to bathe, I won't either." Saeko folded her arms, her look hardening even more.
"Hum, I get it..." Saya observed between the two with a sly smile. "Apparently you don't want Rei alone with Takashi for even a second." She concluded, fixing her gaze on Saeko.
"¿Does that mean you want to keep that look in front of everyone?" Rei sneered at her, her gaze drifting to Takashi to make her words clear.
Big mistake.
Saeko's frown turned into a not at all friendly smile. Even Rei had to agree that it was pretty scary.
"¿Do you want to know what it really feels like to be in a slaughterhouse?" Saeko's question made the uncomfortable feeling turn into a suffocating pressure, as if they were about to die.
And the one who felt that pressure the most without a doubt was Rei.
"Hey..." Takashi had the intention to speak, but his words got stuck in his throat because of how uncomfortable he felt.
No one would find the strength to interrupt such a moment, not even him.
Well...
Realistically, if there was one person.
"¿So you don't want to bathe?" Shizuka asked with a finger on her chin, the very innocent expression on her face made the men look at her with wide eyes. "But if there are only two of us it would be boring." The nurse concluded with a slight pout, causing Saeko and Rei to look at each other once more.
This time, there was no hostility in their gazes.
"¡Haah! ¡All right!" Rei exclaimed with crossed arms and looking away.
"¡Urra!" Shizuka clapped her hands in excitement.
Hirano, Takashi and Hisashi looked at each other, while Saya just shared an internal chuckle at what she had just witnessed.
"¿Who knew?" Thought the dwarf as she fixed her gaze on Saeko, who was looking at her hair to see if it really was dirty.
The men continued in silence, watching the women walk up the stairs as they listened to a story from Shizuka about how much fun she was having with her friends in the bathroom.
"Hey..." Hirano found the strength to speak once the door was heard closing.
"I know, I don't understand what happened with Rei and Saeko." Takashi simply shook his head, showing his disbelief.
"I knew Rei-chan hated Busujima-san." Both Takashi and Hirano fixed their gaze on Hisashi.
"¿What? ¿Why would she hate her?" A rather confused Takashi asked.
"Because she thinks it was her fault that you distanced yourself from us. She just doesn't want to accept that we were entirely to blame." Hisashi lowered his head a little, as he wasn't able to look at Takashi. "I know it's no use saying it, but I'm sorry. I just... I couldn't resist her. " The man concluded with some regret in his words.
"There's no use apologizing now, what's between us is something I stopped caring about a long time ago." Hisashi just smiled sadly after hearing Takashi's words. "But I won't deny that it feels a little good to hear that at least one of you two is willing to apologize." Hisashi looked at him with some surprise after hearing those words.
"To be honest, I always felt that way. But in the end I had done it..." Hisashi gave a slight sigh, and then a smile appeared on his face. "There's no way to justify myself, I know. I'm just saying that I was always pretty scared of you finding out, that's why I always tried to hide mine with Rei."
"Apparently, she was trying hard to let me know." Takashi scoffed with a smile, making it quite clear that he cared little to nothing about that part of his past anymore.
"Yeah, I think she was a little mad at you because even though you two made that promise, you supposedly never did anything subsequent to that to keep it. In the end, Rei-chan wanted to vent to me and somehow we ended up falling in love." The man concluded with a forced smile.
"¿Are you sure you love each other?" Hirano thought with a raised eyebrow, as the whole story seemed to him more like an excuse on Rei's part so she could screw around and generate jealousy to Takashi, while Hisashi was simply satiating his sexual desires with her.
After all, he was the one who said he couldn't resist her in the first place.
"I told you, I'm not going to forgive them just because you apologize." Takashi's smile disappeared, seriousness was present on his face.
"I know, I just wanted to say it..." Hisashi just closed his eyes, accepting his great guilt. "However, I don't understand why Busujima-san reacted that way." Hisashi's new comment not only surprised Takashi, but also Hirano.
"That's right, I was surprised to see him act that way." Takashi put a hand to his chin after his words.
The boys' chatter was interrupted when they heard shouting and laughter coming from upstairs.
"¿Why are they making so much noise?" Takashi wondered with his eyes rolling, to which Hisashi and Hirano wondered the same.
"I don't know..." Hirano bowed his shoulders, then approached the lockers from before. "¿Can you help me with this?"
"Ah, sure." Takashi nodded somewhat awkwardly and approached his best friend to begin.
"By the way, ¿are you going to tell me what you were doing with an AUG in your bedroom closet?"
"Wait, ¿does that briefcase on your back have an assault rifle in it?"
"I bought it from my master. It's a long story..."
"Well, as it happens, we have plenty of time."
The conversation of the three men continued oblivious to the shouts and giggles of the girls, who seemed to be having a great time.
Speaking of them...
Water shot out in all directions as laughter shared between Rei and Shizuka mingled in the large tub. Their completely naked bodies danced freely, only being covered by the thick steam in the area.
Saeko was sitting a little away from the bustle. A shower head was running over her hair as she sat with her eyes closed, enjoying the pleasurable feeling of the hot water. Her guard was very low, so she never saw a certain dwarf coming from behind her.
"¡Gotcha!" Saya exclaimed, earning a slight moan of surprise from Saeko as she felt her breasts being grabbed.
"¿What are you doing?" Saeko's cute eyebrows furrowed in confusion, causing Saya's smile to spread even wider.
"¡More than a sow, I'd say you're a cow! ¡Look at the size of these udders!" Saya squeezed her breasts tightly, causing Saeko to close her eyes tightly.
"¡AAAAAAAANNNGGHHH!"
The boys' conversation was interrupted after hearing the loud moan. Hisashi just covered his face in embarrassment, while Takashi and Hirano looked at each other with a pouty face.
Saya dropped to the floor and crawled backwards dramatically after hearing Saeko's loud moan.
"¿Were you always this sensitive?" The dwarf questioned with a roll of her eyes.
"It's just that I've never touched myself before, so I'm not used to it." Saeko commented with a hint of embarrassment, something that surprised all three women.
"¿You've never done it? I started experimenting with my body when I was 11." Shizuka commented with a quizzical look as she held her cheek with a finger.
"You saying that of all people..." Rei commented rather shocked, as the nurse's personality clashed quite a bit with that kind of attitude.
"¿Why haven't you ever done it before?" Saya asked rather intrigued.
"Well... I guess I was never driven to do it... I mean... I wouldn't really know how to describe it." Saeko's eyebrows contracted in great confusion, as this was the first time she wondered what was wrong with her libido.
"Hehe, I know a pretty simple solution for that..." Saya grabbed her shoulders with a suspicious smile, something that caught Saeko's attention. "¿Why don't you imagine the following?" Saya leaned close to her ear to say the following words:
"Imagine Takashi approaching naked with his muscular body and a rose between his teeth..."
Suddenly, a blush broke out on Saeko's face.
"You're there, waiting for him completely naked surrounded by a marriage bed strewn with cherry petals."
Saeko's blush lessened as her eyes progressively widened.
"Now he lies on top of you and starts caressing every part of your body, every corner, every inch..."
Saeko's hands instinctively went to her most private part after listening to her, and her expression indicated that she was very attuned to what Saya was relating.
"In the end, his tongue goes towards your breasts..."
Saeko brought a hand to one of her breasts unconsciously.
"And finally, his lips slide all over your abdomen until he gives a deep kiss to your..."
"Nnnggh..." An almost inaudible moan emerged from Saeko's lips, as she had been carried away by the fantasies provided by imagining such a scene so desired by her.
"Ehh..." Saya teased with her mischievous grin. "Looks like you got it." The midget culminated with a smirk, receiving a slight nod from Saeko, who was much more focused on continuing to relive said scene.
"Wow, I didn't know Saeko-chan was interested in Takashi-kun." Shizuka commented with some surprise.
That comment made Saeko look at her with some surprise.
"¿Does it show that much?" Saeko tilted her head slightly to the side after posing that question.
"You're not very discreet let's say. What surprises me is that you accept it." Saya accused with an amused expression.
"¿Really?" Now Saeko looked at her best friend, it was impossible for her to hide the surprise on her face.
Rei heard everything, and from her wrinkled face you could understand that she hadn't liked it in the least.

Department
An hour later...
"¡HOLY SHIT!" Those were the first two words heard when the lid of the two lockers fell to the floor.
Takashi could only remain mute, and Hisashi wasn't feeling much better.
Hirano shouldered the submachine gun that was on one of the lockers over his shoulder with a truly stunned expression.
"¿Who the hell is Shizuka's friend to have this beauty?" The chubby guy asked with a goofy expression on his face.
"That's what I'd like to know." Takashi and Hisashi answered at the same time, making these two look at each other.
"¡This calls for a celebration! ¡Takashi, bring something to eat and drink!" Hirano exclaimed energetically as he pointed the gun in all directions, causing Hisashi and Takashi to panic.
"¡Okay, but put that damn thing down!" Takashi waved his hands in anger.
Hisashi just laid his head back on the cushion to give another huge sigh, he didn't know how many times he had done the same thing that day anymore.
Takashi walked up the stairs and watched as Saya was coming down in a rather funny outfit, as she had about 3 pajamas on because of the cold.
"If you laugh, I swear I'll kill you." Declared the dwarf with a deadly look on her face.
"The radiator is in the living room." Was all Takashi said, as he understood the situation.
"By the way, ¿haven't you seen Shizuka or Rei? We were having a couple of drinks and I think the two of them went a little overboard." That surprised Takashi, who looked at her with extreme confusion.
"¿Had they already left the bathroom?" The young man asked with extreme confusion.
"That answers my question." Was all Saya said as she passed on talking to him further, to which Takashi could only bow his shoulders.
Takashi made his way to the kitchen, and was surprised to find a Rei in only pajamas as she was leaning over the sink.
"¿Are you okay?" Takashi was about to approach, but soon noticed the empty bottle of alcohol next to her.
"¿Huh?" Rei turned around watching Takashi with slanted eyes and a slight blush on her cheeks. "¿How can this be possible?" She wondered rather alarmed, something that alerted Takashi.
"¿What's wrong?" The brown asked seriously.
"¿Since when did Takashi have three heads?" The young woman asked with a goofy grin on her face, something that earned a pouty face from Takashi.
Soon after Rei fell to her knees as she was unable to stand.
"You're completely drunk ¿aren't you? ¿Can't you be a little more responsible?" Takashi asked with slight disappointment.
"¿Responsible? ¿You want me to be responsible on a day like this?" Suddenly, Rei's tone faltered a little. "The world no longer exists, my parents are on the other side of town, all the friends I had are probably dead..." Rei placed both hands on her cheeks as she began to cry. "¿¡How could you not want me to try to lighten up a little!?" She cried out in frustration, something that was also heard by the others.
Takashi felt a bit guilty at that point, so he only deigned to sigh and crouch down in front of her.
"We're all going through the same thing. I just want you to be a little stronger." Takashi hugged her to comfort her, something that seemed to work.
But that wasn't enough for Rei.
From one moment to the next she tried to kiss him, but Takashi managed to break away just in time.
"Hey, just because you're drunk is no justification for you to do this." Takashi brushed away the remnants of the kiss that covered his cheek.
"¿Why are you like this? You said it yourself, I'm drunk. No one will remember." Rei tried to grab him by his pants, but Takashi pulled away in time.
"¿What about Hisashi?" Takashi inquired with a frown.
"¿What about him?" Rei stood up as best she could.
"He's your boyfriend." Takashi clarified the obvious.
"¿So what?" Takashi blinked in some disbelief at the woman's such brazenness.
"¿Are you telling me you don't care?" A rather shocked Takashi asked.
"Hisashi it was just a circumstantial thing to get even a little since you never wanted to get close to me, even though we made that promise." Rei held onto the sink to keep herself standing. "Now I understand that I was wrong, but you were wrong too. You were much more wrong than I was." She accused with narrowed eyes.
"¿What the fuck are you talking about?" This time Takashi could easily tell he was upset.
"Just as you heard, it was all your fault." Rei pointed at him incriminatingly. "If you hadn't been a coward, then I would have been with you from the beginning. But since things didn't turn out that way, I was just looking to de-stress a bit with Hisashi and you reacted like a child. It was just a momentary thing, and when I was planning to finish with Hisashi you approached that psycho bitch." Rei spewed with palpable venom when she mentioned Saeko.
Now Takashi wasn't upset, he was just incredulous.
"Are you listening to yourself, ¿and what the hell does Saeko have to do with this?"
"¡Don't you ever mention her again!" Rei slammed the sink down hard. "¡It's because of that idiot bitch that you walked away from me! ¡And not only that, since she fobbed you off with false promises and you believed them all with a big stupid!" Rei's senseless screams were mirrored on Takashi's face.
"¿Are you crazy?" Was all Takashi could think to say, as he found it impossible that Saeko was trying to manipulate him.
"¡WAKE UP, DAMMIT!"
Another shout that was heard by everyone, but that was put on the back burner when a naked Shizuka appeared out of nowhere and hugged Hirano like he was her teddy bear, something that triggered Saya's jealousy.
"¡You have to get real, Takashi! ¡A bitch as high-class as her would never notice someone as pathetic and indecisive as you!"
Those words struck Takashi deeply.
His eyes widened beyond measure, and his hand went to his chest after he felt a rather deep prick jolt him.
It was like hitting the wall of reality.
Slowly, Takashi's dazed expression relaxed, something Rei noticed.
"I see, so that's it..." Takashi muttered to himself.
"¿What? ¿You finally realized that you can only be with me?" Rei asked with utmost happiness, to which Takashi replied with a half smile.
"It's not that. I just remembered everything Saeko and I went through together..." Suddenly, those memories flashed by like a screenshot of the various and extensive adventures they had together. "That's why I want to thank you." Takashi clutched at his aching chest with conviction, something that confused Rei.
"¿And what does that mean?" Rei asked, who could barely stand upright.
"I'm just saying that you're right. Surely Saeko will never love me the way I love her, but all those beautiful memories we created together aren't fake. She helped me become me again, and even supported me in becoming a much better person. Without her help, I would never have been able to get out of the huge pit you yourself threw me into." A big smile appeared on Takashi's face as his arms crossed over his chest proudly.
"That's why I prefer a thousand times more her unrequited love to being with you."
Rei simply froze in disbelief at what she had just heard.
"You...you can't..." Rei fell to her knees as she felt herself losing strength. "¿What kind of an idiot would rather die unloved?" Rei threw down her last card, though it was of little use as her tears of defeat were slowly giving her away.
"Apparently, I'm that idiot. It's nice to meet you." Rei lifted her face to see Takashi looking down at her from above.
The brown-haired man was still folding his arms, and unlike the hesitant and broken spirit he had before, he now possessed an aura of unattainable determination.
That was the word...
Takashi now looked like someone unreachable.
This time, the one who hit the wall of reality was Rei. But instead of enduring the pain like Takashi did, she just started crying silently.
"I'll go take a bath." Feeling uncomfortable about his own discovery of his love for Saeko, Takashi decided to leave and left her alone.
Takashi watched as Saya was scolding Hirano, something that brought a smile to his face.
The only one who noticed his presence was Hisashi, but he preferred not to say anything when he saw that Saya was stretching Hirano's cheeks like a stuffed animal for the fact that he let himself be hugged by Shizuka while she was naked.
"¿How long have I loved her? ¿Why didn't I realize it until now?" Takashi entered the bathroom with those thoughts as he took off his clothes.
"I'm going to make a new promise, and this will be the last one."
Takashi left his shirt half removed after remembering that moment.
He remembered it as if it was yesterday.
He was together with Saeko after receiving her birthday present as they watched the starry sky.
"I'm not going to fall in love with any woman ever again."
Takashi closed his eyes at the memories.
"What Rei told me...I think I always knew." Takashi tossed the shirt on the basket, and his eyes widened again with some sadness.
"I always knew I was going to fall in love with her."
The boxers fell on the basket, and Takashi rubbed his temple in an attempt to soothe that throbbing pain that kept growing over his chest.
"Heh, I guess that's why the depression came back to me when I heard you were leaving." Takashi whispered to himself in a very low tone, a very forced smile emerging from his face as he felt tears begin to form in his eyes.
In the end, the chestnut brown shook his head vigorously to shake those thoughts away.
"Just take a shower and be done with it." Takashi pulled back the curtains, and his droopy face changed instantly.
Saeko looked at him, and Takashi looked at her.
They were both completely naked.
Seconds passed, and all they did was stare at each other's naked body.
Until...
"¡KKKKYYAAAAAAAA!"
Takashi screamed like a child and tried to pull the curtains once more, but all he managed to do was to slip like an idiot and fall on Saeko.
"¿¡What happened!?" Hirano broke away from Saya immediately after hearing such a scream.
"¡It looks like Takashi is being killed!" Hisashi also stood up.
"Don't tell me..." Saya thought with a poker face.
Rei also arrived at the scene, everyone unnoticed her red eyes due to the emergency of the moment.
Hirano and Hisashi rushed to the stairs and went up immediately.
"¡S-s-sorry...!" Takashi tried to apologize as best he could, to which Saeko could only hug him so he wouldn't look at her naked body.
"¡Takashi!" Hirano came in with a crash, and his expression changed in a radical way after seeing the scene.
The fact that the two were hugging and that Saeko was sitting on Takashi's waist gave a rather incorrect picture of what was going on.
"¡I'M SO SORRY!"
Hirano gave a big bow, and before Hisashi could even look up a bit, the door closed in the same abrupt manner in which it opened.
That made both of them look at each other once more.
"¡Anngh!" A tender moan emerged from Saeko's lips as she felt something move beneath her.
Her gaze quickly went over her abdomen as she felt something very warm, and the splash of water was not long in coming as Takashi's large anaconda emerged to the top of her navel.
Saeko looked up at him again, though this time she looked quite surprised.
"It's-it's because of your breasts, it feels too good. Forget what I said." Takashi tried to give an explanation, though he looked rather funny with his face completely red.
"For the time being, I think it would be best to split up." Saeko averted her gaze elsewhere, her blush deepening further as she felt Takashi's member throbbing on her abdomen.
"Yeah, I think that would be great." Takashi replied as best he could.
All this while, Shizuka was sleeping peacefully.

A few hours later...
Time passed, and the misunderstanding was instantly cleared up.
Hirano was in charge of explaining to Takashi how the new weapons they acquired worked, while Saya was in charge of cleaning the clothes covered with blood so that tomorrow they would have something more consistent to wear, especially with the polar coats, since tomorrow would be a very complicated day. Meanwhile, a Rei already somewhat recovered from her drunkenness was now talking with Hisashi, who already looked much better.
Saeko cooked something for everyone, and it should be noted that Takashi almost fainted when he saw her wearing only a cook's apron and some black panties because there were no more moderately clean clothes in the apartment. Finally Shizuka got up and they all set out to have a delicious dinner before going to sleep.
Or so they had thought...
"¿How much longer?" Rei asked from the living room with a sour face.
"¡Only 5 more minutes!" Saeko's shout came from the kitchen.
"So much preparation to make it a bland meal..." Rei muttered reluctantly, something no one heard.
"¡The situation on the bridge has gotten out of control!" Everyone's attention was diverted to the TV after hearing the reporter.
A large amount of gunfire began to be heard as people could be seen jumping over fences and trying to get to the airport.
Eventually, a fighter jet flew over the area and dropped several missiles that generated a large explosion at the site, something that brought down the bridge and killed almost everyone there.
"¡I can't believe it! ¡The army took drastic measures to contain the civilians!" The reporter shouted, to which everyone watched in complete disbelief.
"It can't be..." The only one who said anything was Rei, who looked very affected by what she had just witnessed.
Saeko placed the food on the table as she watched the news silently, as did the others.
"¡We've had new information come in regarding the planes that took off a couple of hours ago!" This comment made Hirano stand up, and everyone else listened with full attention. "Apparently, some planes lost control and crashed before leaving Japan, while all the ones that made it out were bombed by the other countries in order to keep the infection from spreading beyond Japan." Those words shocked everyone, who could not believe what they had just heard.
Though undoubtedly the one who looked the most affected was Hirano, who simply dropped back in his seat with a lost expression on his face.
"My parents..." Was the only thing that came out of his lips, to which everyone looked at him with much pity and helplessness.
"¡Oh! ¡The last plane from the airport is leaving!" Everyone looked back to the TV after hearing those words, where a plane was slowly taking off from the airport.
That made everyone run to the balcony to watch it.
"¡That's a bad idea, they won't get far!" Shouted Takashi through gritted teeth.
There the boys tried to give him some hand signals, but the plane was too far away to see them.
The only one who stayed inside was Hirano, who was still digesting everything that had happened.
"¡Oh, that same fighter is approaching the plane at a high rate of speed! ¿Perhaps he wants to escort it?" The reporter's comment caused Hirano to react.
"¡RETURN DAMN IT, RETURN!" Takashi shouted as loud as he could in the hope that they would be heard.
"Hey, ¿don't you think the fighter is getting too close?" The reporter asked.
"Don't tell me..." Hirano muttered, then looked out onto the balcony.
Takashi's screams ceased as he watched the commercial jet suddenly explode. The shockwave was so big that it reached them, so they could only cover their faces.
The plane broke in half and slowly began to fall as more explosions of a smaller size continued to occur, until it finally landed over the houses and had a loud explosion only a few meters away from the neighborhood they were in.
The explosion and flames rose as high as possible to the shocked looks of everyone as the empty streets began to fill with zombies that were attracted by the sound.
In the end, Takashi could only say one thing.
"Apparently, our luck ran out."
