"Checkmate, I win again, partner." Atem smirked at him.
"Dammit!" Yugi swore loudly
"Language, Yugi!" Grandpa scolded him.
"Sorry Grandpa, I couldn't help it, he keeps winning.
Grandpa turned the stove on low and walked over to where Atem and Yugi are sitting playing another round of chess.
"How many times have you won?" Grandpa asked Atem, raising an eyebrow.
"Twice now,Yugi keeps zoning out so he's not paying attention to what piece he's moving to what spot.
Yugi mock glared at Atem, "You're pulling some kind of mind trick on me aren't you? " he joked.
Atem stood up and walked over to him slowly, like a cat stalking their prey "You caught me partner, I used, dark magic attack! '' Atem shouted, attacking Yugi's sides with his fingers.
Boys take it outside! Grandpa scolded them.
Atem just laughed and swung a squealing Yugi over his shoulder, bringing him outside.
Grandpa just chuckled and shook his head amused, as he continued to hear his grandson's peals of childish laughter he was glad Yugi and Atem back he missed having this Yugi around the happy sunshine boy his grandfather playfully nicknamed him because he was always so happy as a child He put the lid on the curry sauce and walked over to the calendar hanging on the fridge in the kitchen.
He wanted to see what day the boy's birthdays fell on. He saw that Nationals and Yugi's birthday fell on the same day, The week after next.
Grandpa sighed internally. Ever since he found out that Atem and Yugi birthdays fall within days of each other He and Atem's parent's always threw them one big party.
"Atem, Yugi, could you come in here please I would like to speak with you." Grandpa called out to the two boys who were playing on Yugi's old swing set.
The boys jumped off the swing set and ran inside .
"Yes Grandpa, you wanted to speak to us?" Yugi asked as they entered the kitchen.
"As I'm sure you remember from when you boys were small, Atem's parent's and I used to throw one big party instead of two separate ones.
"Yea about that we wanted to ask you if we could go to the amusement park that just opened and could you make your chicken curry please?" Yugi asked him.
The elder smiled at his grandson. "Atem, is this what you would like also?" Grandpa asked the older teen,
Atem smiled widely. Yea i was going to ask you if you would make your famous curry, and maybe falafels ?" Atem asked hopefully.
"I can do that. What kind of cake do you boys want?"
Yugi and Atem looked at eachother, "Can you make a nutella cake?" they asked at the same time.
Solomon smiled warmly, "I'll see what I can do and just so you know Nationals fall on your birthday Yugi.
So maybe we will win a national title on your birthday aibou."
"That would be awesome!" Yugi smiled widely
"When do you boys learn your dance?" Grandpa asked them as he poured himself a cup of tea while they waited for dinner.
"We learn our dance and get our music tomorrow, and then we get sized for our costumes." Yugi chirped excitedly.
Solmomon smiled at his grandson. "Alright boys, dinner will be in an hour."
"Ok Grandpa, me and Atem are going to play a game upstairs."
Solomon nodded his head in understatement.
"It's been forever since we've played a game. What do you wanna play?" Yugi asked Atem who was sitting on his bed, as he climbed on top of his desk trying to open his skylight.
"What are you doing?"
Trying to open- ahhh! Yugi screeched as he slipped off his desk, expecting to hit the ground. He was surprised when he felt strong arms around him.
"You should be more careful sweetheart you could have gotten hurt." Atem said, setting him down on the ground gently and opening the skylight.
"Um uh th-than- thank you" Yugi stuttered out his face flaming.
Atem just smiled at him sweetly. He looked at all the games on Yugi's shelf and spotted his favorite game they used to play before he moved. "You still have Clue?" Atem asked him, taking the box down. There was a thick layer of dust on top of the box, it looked like it hadn't been touched in years.
"Yea, I haven't played it since you moved away. It was too painful. Is it still your favorite?" Yugi asked him.
"Yea, let's play." Atem said excitedly as he began to set everything up.
Yugi sat down opposite Atem and he watched him set everything up.
As they played the game they got to talking about the most random stuff. "My turn." Yugi chirped happily. As Atem handed him the dice their hands brushed together. They stayed like that for a few moments, getting closer and closer to each other till they were nose to nose. Their breaths intermingling.
"Boys dinner!" Grandpa called up to them.
They broke apart quickly, both of them were blushing madly.
Yugi tried to hide his blush from Atem by turning his head in the opposite direction.
"Are you blushing little one?" Atem smirked at him.
"Wh-what no it's just cold in here." Yugi fumbled over his words, his face betraying him as it flamed up more he could feel the tip of his ears heating up.
Atem raised an elegant eyebrow, "sweetheart its' eighty degrees out."
"Sh-shut up, you- you're blushing too." The smaller stuttered.
Atem smirked at him. "I don't blush."
Yugi stuck his tongue out at him in retaliation. "We better go down before Grandpa gets mad," he mumbled as he stood up. "We can finish our game after we do the dishes."
The next day Atem and Yugi were warming up waiting to be called in so they could learn their dance.
"Atem , Yugi , Mrs Kato says to send you in, it's your turn." A tall pale skin girl with ice blue eyes and hair to match says to them.
"Alright thank you Ami," Atem replied, grabbing a hold of Yugi's hand as they walked into the studio.
"Hello Yugi , Atem are you buoys ready for your dance.?" Mrs. Kato asked them.
Yes! Yugi exclaimed he was practically vibrating with excitement.
Atem was just as excited as Yugi was; he couldn't wait to hear what their dance was.
"Alright well this one I figured you would like it. The song is called Best friend. It's about these two kids that have known each other since they were little and then as they got older the boy realizes he fell in love with his best friend but he didnt realize it till now. Despite knowing that she might not feel the same way about him he decided to go for it anyway and tell her his feelings," Mrs. Kato explained to them
Yugi fell silent as Mrs. Kato explained what their dance was about. His heart did a little flutter as he realized that this dance was similar to the situation him and Atem were in. "That's cute," he mumbled.
"And brave. Think about it. Like you are putting your whole heart out there hoping that the other person feels the same way you do." Atem spoke.
Yugi looked at him with wide curious eyes. Am I brave? Could I tell Atem my feelings for him? Would he feel the same way? Yugi thought to was brought out of his thoughts by Atem sliding his hand in his and threaded their fingers together
"Yea it is brave." Yugi mumbled.
"Yes you're right Atem, it's incredibly brave to tell someone that you feel more than friendship for them but if you dont you might miss out on something wonderful. What if this person feels the same way you do. After we are done here, go into studio B and Mrs. Lee will give you your costumes. But for now let's start learning this dance. Nationals is in two weeks." Mrs. Kato explained.
The boys smiled and nodded, excited to learn something new. They soon found out that this dance was more intimate than the last romantic dance they did. This one requires more emotion as well. Yugi could relate well to this song. He's glad Mrs Kato chose this one. Even if they don't win this is by far his favorite dance that he's learned.
"Now I want both of your attention. This next move is a bit more difficult than you are used to. Yugi, I want you to a running split leap and I want you to catch him Atem''
They boys did as instructed. They performed it flawlessly. "Amazing boys, truly amazing! You boys have so much trust for eachother. I can see it in your dancing and the way you interact with each other. You don't even have to think about it, you just do it and that's what partner dance is all about, trust."
Now this next maneuver is a little more complicated. I want you to spin Yugi out then back into your arms and as you lift him I want you to toss him into the air and catch him in a bridal style."
Once more Yuig and Atem performed the maneuver flawlessly.
Mrs. Kato was overjoyed when they put the whole dance together with the music. "You were wonderful boys. If you dance like you did just now at Nationals you are a shoe in for first place."
Remember this is an upbeat love song so have fun with it. Remember to use your emotions and just let the music take you away, if you really want to win first make the dance your own that dance." You are dismissed for the evening. Mrs Kato instructed the boys
"Thank you" The boys smiled as they bid their dance teacher goodnight and headed off to the showers. After they were showered off, they met up by Atem's locker.
They linked hands once more and walked off in the direction of the dance studios store so they could get their costumes.
"Hello boys I was just about to come find you." Mrs. Lee greeted them as they walked into the store.
Hello Mrs. Lee" they greeted her back.
"Are you boys ready to see your costumes?" She asked them.
"Yes Ma'am" they responded politely.
Mrs. Lee is Marshmalon studios seamstress. She's a lovely little old lady. She also runs the shop in the studio as well. All the dancers that perform in competition have won a piece created by her. Yugi has seen quite a few of the costumes she makes and they are beautiful.
"Alright little one you are first." she gestured to Yugi, who smiled brightly at the older lady.
"I'll wait right here, aibou." Atem said, smiling sweetly at him.
Mrs. Lee led Yugi to the back of the store and handed him a dress bag and told him to go try it on then come back out so she could make any adjustments that needed to be made.
Yugi locked the door behind him and unzipped the bag. He gasped. The dress is a beautiful short rose red, A-line pleated dress. Yugi's pretty sure it's a prom dress. The bodice has small sparkly sequins embedded in it and the skirt has a silky soft satin feel to it.
Yufi slips on the dress. He tried to zip up the dress himself but to no avail it also had ties. He would have to get some help with the back. He holds the dress against him so it won't fall off. Looking in the mirror, he takes a small spin in the dressing room and smiles as the elegant dress flares out around him.
He pokes his head out of the dressing room. "Mrs. Lee I need a little help zipping the dress and doing the ties. Could you help me please?" Yugi asked her sweetly.
The elder nodded ,smiled as she walked into the dressing room. She zipped the small teen's dress and did up the ties.
Yugi smiled as she finished "There we go , you look lovely and that nice young man out there is waiting so patiently for you to show him your dress.
Yugi felt his face heat up in a fierce blush at the elder's words. "Thank you Mrs Lee. Yugi said bowing to her as they exited the dressing room.
"You look beautiful ." Atem smiled when he saw Yugi come out of the dressing room.
"Thank you." Yugi smiled sweetly, a soft blush gracing his sweet face.
Mrs. Lee turned her attention to Atem. "It's your turn now. Use the dressing room Yugi used and come out when you're done" She said as she handed him a dress bag.
Atem nodded, taking the dress and walking off to the dressing room. He unzipped the garment bag and took out his outfit. It matched Yugi;s in a way. The shirt is beautiful . It's a rose red satin, button down long sleeve shirt and it's paired with a black sparkly waistcoat vest with a black sparkly bow tie to match. Footless black tights paired with a black belt completed the look.
pulled on the outfit . He liked the way it fit and he also loved that it matched Yugi's dress.
Atem couldn't wait till nationals. It would be awesome if they could take home a national title on Yugi's birthday, Atem mused as he walked out of the dressing room, out to where Yugi and Mrs. Lee were waiting .
"Wow, you look amazing! That color looks so good on you with your dark skin and your shirt makes your eyes really pop. " Yugi rambled off. He seemed to realize what he said and quickly closed his mouth with a fierce blush on his face.
Atem chuckled and brought his arms around the smaller male's petite:waist. He leaned down and whispered in his ear. "I'm flattered you think I'm so sexy aibou."
Yugi was blushing so bad , Atem swore it went all the way down to his toes.
"You're the worst !" Yugi snapped as he shoved Atem playfully.
In truth Yugi did think Atem looked sexy in his costume. The crimson red shirt compliments his mocha skin and makes his eyes sparkle. Giving him an even more exotic look. He could look at Atem for days Not that he would ever say that to Atem.
THe older teen laughed alongside his best friend. He then turned to Mrs. Lee. "How do I look? " he asked her.
The older woman walked around Atem pulling at different parts of the costume and making Atem bend every such way to make sure everything fit perfectly.
"Very nice. You may go change now boys." she commented.
The boys heard off to go change back into their street clothes. They bid Mrs. Lee a goodnight and then headed back home.
It was late by the time they got home. Yugi had fallen asleep on Atem's shoulder in the backseat of Grandpa's car. Atem looked down at Yugi adoringly. With a small smile on his face. He brushed a stray curl out of Yuig's face and was about to lean down and kiss his cheek when
Grandpa opened the car door .They arrived home grandpa was about to wake him when Atem stopped him.
"No, don't wake him Grandpa. I'll get him." the older teen said with a soft smile.
"I remember a scene quite like this when you boys were small." Grandpa reminisced as he held the door open for Atem to carry Yugi in the house.
During his sleep he somehow managed to wrap himself around Atem like a baby panda.
"What do you mean grandpa?" Atem asked the old man.
Your mother had taken you boys to the beach and apparently on Yugi fell asleep the same way he had in the car and you said to your mom ("no mommy I wanna carry him, I loves him." )
"Shhh, he'll hear you." Atem shushed the older man, his cheeks burning with embarrassment. He did not need Yugi to know about that.
The old man just smiled as he left the two boys alone saying something about young love
Yugi tightened his hold on Atem and snuggled deeper into his warm embrace.
Atem smiled and held Yugi closer as he ascended the stairs to their room. He opened the door to the room and set Yigi down gently on his bed. He took his sneakers and pants off and left him in his boxers and t-shirt. He pulled back the covers and went to tuck him in when Yugi grabbed a hold of his wrist and wouldn't let go.
Atem smiled softly at the smaller teen. He stripped himself down to his boxers and t-shirt as well then climbed in next to Yugi he was about to turn over onto his side when Yugi snuggled into his chest. Atem smiled at his friend and pulled him closer to him.
A few weeks later Yugi was finishing up his makeup to go on stage for nationals. When Atem entered the room holding a large bouquet that held his favorite flowers, roses and hyacinths.
"Happy Birthday aibou, these are for you." The older teen smiled sweetly at him, handing him the flowers.
"Thank you Atem, these are beautiful," Yugi gasped in awe, a cute soft blush staining his cheeks. He took a sniff and realized that there was also lavender in it as well.
"I thought you would like these. I knew they were your favorite flowers and wanted to get you them. I also have another present for you but I'll wait till after nationals to give it to you."
Yugi smiled sweetly at his best friend . "Thank you. These are lovely." He said putting the bouquet down and wrapping his arms around Atem. The hug felt like it lasted forever and it made Yugi smile. He loved Atem's hugs.
"Oh! I almost forgot I have something for you too. Yes I know it's my birthday and yours already passed and I didnt have to get you anything. Well I didn't buy this, I made it." Yugi said breaking away from Atem so he could rummage through his suitcase.
He pulled something out of his bag that Atem couldn't see and walked over to him. "I um I hope you like it. It took me a really long time to make, I wanted it to be perfect. I put it in here so it wouldn't get messed up." Yuig mumbled, handing Atem a little clear plastic cube and inside it was an origami lotus flower and not just any lotus flower. Atem's favorite, a beautiful red lotus.
Atem smiled widely, bringing Yugi into a tight embrace. "This is beautiful aibou I love it"
Yugi's cheeks dusted a pretty rose color and was about to say something when a knock at the dressing room door sounded and Yugi went to answer it. It was one of the competition attendants letting them know they were on in five minutes. Yugi thanked the woman and he shut the door.
He put the finishing touches up on his makeup, smoothed out his dress and looked at Atem. "Well how do I look?" The smaller teen asked him, doing a little spin.
The taller of the two of them smiled widely. "You look stunning, sweetheart." Atem compliments him. Yugi was dressed in a beautiful rose red satin mini dress with sparkling sequins embedded in the bodice making it sparkle and red booty shorts underneath.
His tricould hair had been straightened and then braided into a double heart braid that was tied off with a cute red bow that had sparkles embedded in it, His makeup was flawless. A loose silvery eyeshadow was smoothed over his eyelids, His eyes were also lined in thick black sparkly liner and his cheeks and lips were painted a soft pink.
Yugi's round cheeks flushed pink at the complement. "You look amazing, that shirt really brings out your eyes."
Atem was dressed in a long sleeve rose red satin shirt that matched his eyes and Yugi's dress. A black sparkly waistcoat vest was placed over the shirt. A pair of footless black tights and a sparkly black bowtie, completed the outfit as well as a few silver rings on his fingers.
"Thank you aibou. Are you ready to go.?" NAtem asked him
Yug smiled sweetly at the taller teen. "Yea let me just put my flowers down and then we can head backstage."
Yugi placed his flowers on his vanity and walked black over to Atem. Hand in hand they walked back stage together awaiting their turn,
They were next after the person that just went on stage and Yugi was a nervous wreck he was pacing back and forth, muttering under his breath.
"Aibou stop pacing. We are going to do great out there. I have faith in us. We can do this just don't think about the crowd or the judges. All you need to think about is what you feel when you hear this song." Atem said, grabbing Yuig's elbow gently and bringing him in for a hug.
Yugi smiled at Atem and wrapped his arms around him. "Thank you, Atem, you always know just what to say."
"Anytime sweetheart. I'll always be here for you no matter what." Atem replied, kissing his forehead like he did when they were little.
"Please Welcome to the stage entry number 594 Best Friend." The announcer said into the mic.
That's us." Atem smiled as he took Yugi's hand and walked to center stage.
The boys looked at each other as their music started.
Yugi was a little nervous; he didn;t want to mess up.

Yugi performed a triple pirouette as rembred when he and Atem were little and Atem was pushing him on the swing. The older boy jumped on the back of it, making Yugi laugh. "Your crazy Tem. but you're my best friend" the small boy giggled at his best friend.
Atem's face had turned serious. "Let's make a promise to always be there for eachother no matter what we are doing. If the other needs them we will be there." Yugi had just smiled weirdly and hooked his pinky with Atem's in a promise to always be there for each other.

Yugi's face flushed an endearing shade of pink all the way up to his ears as he saw how Atem was looking at him, like he was the most important thing in the world to him.
Atem smiled as he twirled Yugi into his arms and dipped him flawlessly. Bright smiles never leaving their faces. Dancing like this with Yugi in his arms felt right like something had clicked. When he was dancing with Yugi everything felt all tingly in a good way. It was then he realized he wasn't just crushing on Yugi he had fallen in love with the smaller teen.

Their eyes never left each other for too long. The nervousness that Yugi felt earlier completely melted away and all he thought of was Atem and the way they danced together across the stage. It felt as natural as breathing.
Atem's sharp features softened as he looked at Yugi, who could see so much emotion behind each graceful move.
Atem's strong hands were on Yugi's petite waits as Yuig raised himself up onto one leg his other leg was extended outward and Atem's other hand gently held his and slowly spun him smoothly as if he were a ballerina on a music box.
Yugi's entire body felt like it was going to burst with joy. He loved dancing with Atem and just dancing in general. Yugi thought to himself as he pulled off a double fouetté, and then a pirouette, making the entire room burst into applause But the boys tuned them out and continued their dance

Yugi started to realize that Atem had been there for him through everything. Just like he promised that day on the swing when they were little. He was supportive even when Yugi went on a few dates with some guys from his school. Most of them only lasted a few weeks. The last one he had lasted almost a year before he broke it off and Atem was there for him, despite it all being a supporting best friend. He even had doordash deliver him a whole carton of Death By Chocolate ice cream during the last breakup and he even stayed on video chat with him all night till he fell asleep. Yugi realized at that moment that he fell in love with Atem.
Atem and Yugi grabbed their legs and raised it above their heads and spun in place next to each other. They spun and glided across the stage a few more times before coming back to each other.

Yugi glides across the floor into a running split leap, his body extending gracefully. Atem catches him effortlessly. As Atem catches him he performs a forwarded arabesque overhead, his small hands finding purchase on Atem's strong shoulders.

As Atem caught him Yugi felt like they were the only ones in the room. Atem was about to lower him back to the floor when Yugi looked down at him, his delicate face breaking out into a beautiful sweet smile.
Atem's rose red eyes locked onto Yugi's beautiful violet ones. Their faces inched closer and closer till Yugi felt Atem's soft full lips upon his in a sweet, short kiss but one that Yugi could feel all of the love that was poured into it.
He felt like he was going to burst with happiness. This kiss and the dance with Atem was everything he ever dreamed about since Atem moved away; it felt like something out of one of the many romance movies Yuig liked to watch.
With a look in Atem's eyes Yugi knew they would talk after their performance. He rested his forehead against Atem's and their lips met again in another sweet kiss.

Atem was afraid he just ruined what they had when he kissed Yugi but he had to try. If he didnt then he would regret it forever. He was a little surprised when Yugi kissed him back, it gave him hope that maybe just maybe he would be able to call Yugi his soon.
Atem lowered him back down almost to the floor and Yugi legs were on both sides of Atem's hips and the taller teen tossed him into the air, allowing Yugi to perform a front flip. Atem catching him easily in a birdial hold as if he weighed as light as a feather . It was easy for Atem to lift him as Yugi was so tiny.

Yugi smiled widely as the adrenaline pumped through his body after being tossed into the air like that. He was having so much fun he completely forgot about being nervous. Nothing else mattered except him and Atem dancing upon that stage in that moment. The bright lights shining upon them bounced off of the sparkly sequins on Yugi's dress and Atem's vest.
His rose red eyes were practically glowing as he took Yugi in his arms, lifting him off the ground, spinning them softly.
Yugi could feel Atem's muscles flex as he lifted him into the air once more.
As Atem lowered him Yugi then wrapped his legs around Atem's waist squeezing them close together. Atem's grip on him was firm as he dipped Yugi leaning him all the way back allowing him to perform a back walkover into a pirouette. spinning to the one side of the stage and then back into Atem's arms, his sparkly ruby red dress flailing out beautifully as he was spun across the dance floor.

As the song ended the boys heard the audience and the judges go crazy. They seemed to love their performance. They linked hands and went back to their dressing room. They would be called back in a few moments for awards. A little while later they were both seated on stage awaiting the awards.
"Alright everyone it's down to the top three duo trios for Starpower Nationals. In third place teen trio in the line dance category entry number 6 The Get Up from Jackson City Dance center" Three girls all around 15-16 years old wearing jean shorts a tied up blue plaid shirts tied in the front paired over a white tank top with a cowboy hat and boots, walked up to receive their award.
"Our second place teen Star Power duet goes to entry number 25 with Yes from Lotus Dance center. This time a girl and boy wearing matching outfits like theirs except their outfits were turquoise instead of red, walked up to receive their award.
Yugi was now a ball of nerves; he was never so anxious in his whole life. He sat there watching all of the dancers go up and receive their awards. He gripped Atem's hand tighter when the announcer was about to announce who won nationals.
"Don't be so nervous aibou. I'm pretty sure we've won. Did you hear how the audience and judges reacted after our dance? I didn't hear that after anyone else's dance. I think that speaks volumes." Atem murmured softly, as not to let the other dancers hear them, wrapping his other arm around Yugi's slender shoulders.
Yugi smiled and leaned into the one armed hug. Leaning his head on Atem's shoulder.
"And in first place, the highest scoring routine of the day with a score of 300 Our top scoring Starpower teen duet, Goes to entry number 31, Atem and Yugi with Best Friend from Marshmalon dance center!"
Yuig and Atem were shocked to say the least they didn't expect to get a perfect score. They received their crowns and sashes and walked off stage. They packed their stuff and headed out to meet grandpa who was waiting for them.
Yugi lunged at the old man, hugging him tight. We won the whole thing, Grandpa! We got a perfect score of 300! Yugi exclaimed, jumping up and down.
"I know I was watching the whole thing. I wanted to surprise you. Happy Birthday my boy! Congratulations to you both, that was a very difficult dance. I'm so proud of the both of you. What do you say we go back home to eat then you can go to the amusement park."
Both boys nodded in agreement. They put their stuff in Solomon's car and climbed into the back seat. They sat in the back seat side by side holding hands.
Yugi immediately thought back to the kiss they shared on the dance floor and he felt his face heat up. He wanted Atem to kiss him again. Would he or was it just for show? He certainly hoped not. He didn't think Atem would do that but he was nervous.
Atem smiled softly at him, squeezing his hand gently as if he knew he was worrying.
"What's on your mind sweetheart?" Atem asked him, lowering his voice so Grandpa wouldn't hear them.
"Nothing," Yugi murmured looking out the window.
A gentle hand turned his head back toward Atem. "Tell me, what's wrong? Was it the kiss? Did you not want me to kiss you? If so then I'm sor-."
"NO! I-I- Yuig was cut off as they arrived home and Grandpa parked the car.
Atem smiled at the smaller male. "We can talk more once we get to the amusement park.
Yugi smiled and nodded. They went inside and ate dinner. After dinner they went upstairs to change out of their dancewear. Yugi changed into a violet colored flowing tank top with white lace in the back and a ruffled layered black mini skirt with a bow and a little pink heart charm off to the side where his hip is.
He straightened his hair with his hair straightener so that his normally spiky hair flowed down his back in soft ringlets down his back and he pulled his hair back so it was half up half down ,the edges of the half ponytail were braided and he tied it off with a violet bow that used to be his mothers. He figured it would give him luck with telling Atem his feelings. He grabbed his black lace ballet flats that had a rose design to them and set them near his bed. He put the finishing touches on his makeup and went downstairs to meet Atem.
Atem was waiting for Yugi at the bottom of the stairs. He had on a silk crimson tank top with black denim shorts and a black pair of tennis shoes, paired with black wrist cuffs, a black choker collar and silver stud earrings in his ears. He had even managed to wrangle his hair into a ponytail. He wanted to look good for Yugi.
As Yugi descended the stairs Atem's stomach flipped when he saw him"You look stunning sweetheart." he told Yugi as he stood in front of him.
Yugi's cheeks reddened when he saw what Atem was wearing he could see his cinnamon skin stretched over his well defined arms and what part of his chest he could see. "Thanks you look nice too", he smiled.
"Are you ready to leave sweetheart?" Atem asked him.
"Yea lets go tell grandpa that we are leaving."
They went into the living room where Grandpa was watching tv. "Hey Grandpa, we're heading out now." Yugi told him.
The elder turned toward them and smiled. "Alright have fun you two and I want you home before eleven." He said as he handed Atem the keys to his car
"We will be." Atem assured him.
Both teens gave the elder a hug and left for Fuji-Q Highland amusement park.
They had rode most of the rides and played most of the games, Yugi swore if he didn't drag Atem away he would spend all of their allowance winning stuffed toys for Yuig, so far he now was in possession of a Kuriboh, a Marshmallon, a Watapon
and a Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl.
"What time is it sweetheart?" Atem asked him.
"Umm 9:35."
Atem smiled at him. "We can go on one more ride and then we have to head home. I remember this ride from when we were little and Grandpa took us here . It's called the fairytale forest. It's like a tunnel of love sort of thing except instead of a boat ride it's a horse drawn carriage through a wooded path. I'll admit I've always wanted to on it with you." Atem said with a soft smile.
Yugi smiled as a soft rosy blush graced his round cheeks.
"Would you like to go on it with me?" Aem asked him.
"Yea, I would like that." Yugi murmured. He was pretty sure now that Atem was staying with him he was never going to be able to stop blushing.
They showed the attendant their wristbands and she unlocked the gate and let them in.
There were twelve, open horse drawn carriages lined up ready to go. All of the horses were as white as snow and all of the horses had red, purple and pink roses in their manes and tails. The carriages themselves were just as white as the horses that drove them. They were wide open hearts where the windows would be if it was a closed carriage and there were red pink and purple roses woven through them intricately as well as soft purple fairy lights woven through each carriage. The flowers on the horses and carriage were fake of course but they still looked beautiful.
Atem took his hand and like the gentleman he is helped Yugi into the carriage. He then slid in next to him and wrapped his arm around his waist.
The carriage started moving and they could see the forest was lit up with soft purple and turquoise lights in the trees, pink roses lined the pathway in the bushes and there were even some that creeped up the trees , the sun had set long a while ago giving the air around it a more romantic feel.
Atem then turned toward him, his heart pounding in excitement and nerves and took his smaller hand in his. "That kiss on stage I wanted to wait to get you alone to kiss you and tell you my feelings for you. "I've had a crush on you for the longest time and I never did anything about it because I didn't want to ruin our friendship. Then when I saw you again in person ,I thought you were the most beautiful person in the room, and then when we started dancing together again my feelings got stronger. I realized that I had fallen in love with you Yugi . Would you like to be my boyfriend?" He asked the smaller.
"Yugi's stomach swooped violently but he couldn't help the stupid happy smile that spread over his face. He bit his lip still smiling, before replying, " I'd love to be yours."
A bright smile spread over Atem's gorgeous features. He cupped Yugi's soft rosy cheek and captured his lips in a sweet soft kiss,Yugi responded immediately, and wrapped his arms around Atem's neck pressing himself further into Atem who wrapped his arm around Yugi's waits pulling him into his lap and asking for entrance, and Yugi opened his mouth instantly letting Atem in.
Yuig's lips were soft upon his own firm ones and he smelled like sweet strawberry perfume and the cotton candy he had enjoyed earlier before getting in the carriage.
Atem smelled like the sandalwood cologne he gave to him for his birthday a few days ago and he tasted like cinnamon and the falafels he had snacked on earlier. Realizing they needed air Atem pulled away.
Yugi's heart was beating a million miles a minute and he sat there on Atem's lap with a kissed stupid smile on his face.
Atem cupped Yugi's cheek , "I need you to breathe sweetheart," he chuckled at the younger's expression..
Yugi kissed Atem on the cheek "I love you too Atem."
Atem smiled brightly and he shifted them to a better sitting position and that's when he remembered he had Yugi's gift in his pocket. "I almost forgot, happy birthday sweetheart Atem said, handing Yugi a violet box with a ruby red bow wrapped around it.
Yugi smiled sweetly and opened the box carefully so as not to damage it. Inside the box was a collar, the collar part was purple and latched in the back like a dog collar. The front had two black chains, one that went against your throat and the other had a heart that rested just above your chest.
"I saw you eyeing it a few weeks ago when we went to the mall. So when you went into a different store I went back and got it for you."
"I love it, thank you Atem. Will you put it on me?" he asked the older teen.
Atem smiled widely, "of course I will sweetheart. Turn around for me."
Yugi did as asked and turned around so Atem could clasp it around his neck.
Atem placed his hands around Yugi's petite waits and turned him around to face him. Atem fastens the collar around his neck. Brushing a stray curl out of his face he looked into his eyes and responded, "it looks lovely on you sweetheart."
"Thank you Atem I love it." Yugi said as he wrapped his arms around Atem's neck drawing him in for another kiss. They sat there the rest of the ride talking quietly and enjoying eachothers company. When the ride came to an end Atem helped Yugi out of the carriage.
Are you ready to leave aibou?"
"Yea let's go home, I'm tired and we still have to tell Grandpa we're dating now." Yugi smiled, taking Atem's hand in his as they walked back to the car.
They arrived home by ten thirty. Yugi and Atem took their shoes off by the door and walked into the living room where Grandpa was still sitting in his chair watching his show, no doubt he was waiting for them to come home.
"Hey Grandpa, we're home now." Yugi said
"Did you boys have fun on your date?" Grandpa asked them.
Both teens were floored; they didn't think Grandpa knew.
"How did you know?" Atem asked him.
"I may be old but I'm not blind. I've seen how you boys look at each other."
Yugi bit his lip anxiously, so…does that mean you are ok with us dating?"
"Yugi, I could not have hoped for a better man for you than Atem. You boys have my blessing."
Yugi was practically beaming with happiness. "Thank you Grandpa, I love you." the smaller responded with a hug.
Solomon smiled, hugging his grandson back. "I love you too Yugi."
Atem smiled and gave Solmon a hug as well. "Thank you for everything Grandpa."
"Your welcome son." He said, hugging him back.
After that the boys went upstairs, got changed and slid in bed next to each other. Yugi couldn't help but think how much everything changed in such a short amount of time. Earlier that day he was wondering if Atem would want to date him and now he was his boyfriend and they were snuggling in bed. That felt different as well, they always snuggled together as children but now that they were in a relationship it felt more intimate.
Atem put on a movie and lay on his back and wrapped his arm securely around Yugi. The smaller smiled and slid closer to Atem so he was spooned against him. He smiled down at his little lover and kissed the top of his head. "I love you aibou.".
Yugi sighed happily, "I love you too Atem." he said as he laid his head on Atem's broad chest. They watched the movie till Yugi fell asleep on Atem's chest. Hearing Yugi's soft snores he turned the tv off and pulled the blankets over them and soon fell asleep himself
