Chapter 19 Dracodawn Kingdom
As Ash, Lillie, and Golly approach the Dracodawn Kingdom, the landscape around them begins to shift in a way that feels almost mystical. The rolling hills and rocky terrain of the previous kingdoms give way to a land dominated by towering mountains, their peaks shrouded in mist and clouds. The air here is thick with humidity, and the distant roars of unseen creatures echo through the valleys.
The path ahead winds upward, leading them closer to the heart of the kingdom. Massive, ancient trees with dark, twisted roots cling to the mountainsides, their leaves a deep, almost unnatural shade of green. The ground is littered with the remnants of fallen branches and the occasional glimmer of scales, hinting at the presence of powerful Dragon-type Pokémon that call this place home.
Golly points toward a colossal stone archway that marks the entrance to the kingdom. "This is Dracodawn, the kingdom forged by the power of Arceus' Draco Plate," she explains, her voice carrying a note of reverence. "The land here is said to be infused with the essence of dragons, and every element of this place reflects that. It's a kingdom unlike any other."
Ash takes in the sight before him, his eyes widening as they pass beneath the archway. "You can feel it in the air," he says softly, sensing the raw energy that seems to pulse through the very ground beneath their feet. "The power here is… overwhelming."
Lillie glances around, her gaze lingering on the shadows that move within the dense forests. "The Pokémon here must be incredibly strong," she observes, her voice tinged with awe. "It's as if the whole kingdom is alive with their presence."
Golly nods. "The Dracodawn Kingdom is known for its connection to dragons. The people here have a deep respect for these creatures, and the land itself has been shaped by their influence. But that also means this is a place of great danger, where strength is respected above all else."
As they continue deeper into the kingdom, the towering peaks and dense forests seem to close in around them, creating an almost claustrophobic atmosphere. The path narrows, leading them toward the heart of Dracodawn, where the true power of the dragons awaits.
"Long ago," Golly begins, "the Dracodawn Kingdom was established in harmony with Dragon-type Pokémon. The ancestors, recognizing the deep connection between the people and these majestic creatures, chose a wise king and queen to rule the land. They were blessed with a daughter, Princess Giselle, who lived happily within the kingdom's walls. Giselle was a kind-hearted princess, beloved by all, but her heart belonged to someone unexpected—a Dragon Tamer named Ash."
Ash raises an eyebrow at the coincidence. "A tamer named Ash? Sounds like someone I should meet."
Lillie smirks, catching the humor in the situation. "Seems like the name Ash carries a lot of weight around here. Maybe it's a sign that you were destined to hear this story."
Golly smiles at their banter but continues, her voice steady and full of the weight of history. "But Ash was not of noble blood. He was just a humble tamer, skilled in his ways but considered unworthy by the king and queen. They forbade Giselle from seeing him, instead arranging marriages with princes from other regions. However, Giselle rejected them all, for her heart belonged only to Ash."
"One day, a wicked witch riding a Hydreigon swooped down from the mountains and kidnapped the princess. The witch declared that her dragon was hungry for the princess's flesh and took her to the Dragon's Den, deep within the mountains. The kingdom was thrown into despair, and though they begged the neighboring princes to save Giselle, none dared to face the Dragon Witch."
Ash listens intently as Golly continues, her voice filled with the weight of history. "But Ash, who had been barred from the castle, heard of Giselle's plight. Determined to save her, he set off alone, his heart burning with the resolve to rescue the princess. On his journey, he encountered an injured Eevee, being cruelly chased by villagers. Ash protected Eevee, even enduring a beating for his kindness. In gratitude, Eevee joined Ash on his quest.
"As they neared the Dragon's Den, they met a sword maker who questioned Ash's ability to defeat the witch without a weapon. The sword maker presented Ash with five swords, telling him that only the true Dragon Slayer could choose the right one. Ash selected the correct sword, and with it, he and Eevee pressed on to the den."
Golly's tone becomes more intense as she reaches the climax of the story. "The witch summoned an army of dragons to stop Ash, but he defeated them all. Finally, he confronted the witch herself, who transformed into a fearsome Mega Salamence. The battle was fierce, and Ash's sword was knocked from his hands. But at that moment, Eevee evolved into Sylveon, turning the tide of the battle. With Sylveon's help, Ash retrieved the sword and struck down the Salamence, ending the witch's reign of terror."
Lillie grins, seeing a parallel. "So, the tamer named Ash saved the princess and became a king. Maybe it's more than just a coincidence."
Ash chuckles softly, appreciating the connection. "Who knows? Maybe the name Ash is just lucky when it comes to saving kingdoms."
Golly finishes with a nod. "After the rescue, the king and queen realized their mistake and allowed Ash to marry Giselle. Together, they ruled the Dracodawn Kingdom, bringing peace and prosperity to the land. And that, Ash, is the legacy of the Dragon Tamers in this kingdom."
As Ash, Lillie, and Golly continue their exploration of the Dracodawn Kingdom, they come across an imposing arena surrounded by towering stone walls. The air is thick with tension, and the roars of Dragon-type Pokémon echo through the area. This is clearly a place where dragons are tamed, but the atmosphere feels more oppressive than awe-inspiring.
In the center of the arena stands King Draconis, a figure clad in dark, elaborate armor that reflects the power he wields over the kingdom. Around him, young tamers struggle to control their dragons, but the methods used are harsh and unforgiving. Whips crack, and sharp commands are barked as the tamers attempt to force the dragons into submission.
Golly points toward the scene, her expression tense. "This is where the dragons of the Dracodawn Kingdom are tamed, under the strict supervision of King Draconis. He believes in absolute control over these creatures, and those who fail to dominate their dragons face severe consequences."
Ash watches with a growing sense of unease as a tamer struggles to control a Garchomp. The Pokémon is clearly distressed, thrashing wildly as it tries to escape the harsh treatment. King Draconis watches with a stern expression, his eyes cold. "Tame it, or suffer the consequences," he demands, his voice devoid of compassion.
The tamer, desperate to avoid punishment, increases their efforts, but the Garchomp's panic only grows. Ash's hands clench into fists as he sees the fear in the Pokémon's eyes. "This isn't right," he mutters. "They're forcing the dragons into submission. This isn't how it's supposed to be."
Lillie's expression mirrors Ash's discomfort. "These dragons aren't being treated with respect. It's all about control and domination."
As they continue to watch, the Garchomp finally lashes out, causing chaos in the arena. Instead of calming the situation, King Draconis steps forward with a weapon in hand, ready to subdue the dragon by force. Before he can strike, however, the Garchomp collapses from exhaustion, its spirit broken.
King Draconis turns to the tamer, his voice harsh. "If you can't control your Pokémon, you're worthless as a tamer." He motions for the guards to take the tamer away, ignoring the suffering dragon.
Ash's eyes narrow, anger simmering just beneath the surface. "This isn't how taming should be. It's not about breaking their spirit—it's about building trust."
Golly nods, her expression grim. "King Draconis rules with an iron fist, believing that strength comes from absolute control. But that control comes at a great cost, both to the dragons and to the people."
Ash exchanges a determined look with Lillie. "If this is how he runs his kingdom, then something has to change."
After leaving the oppressive atmosphere of the dragon-taming arena, Ash, Lillie, and Golly venture into one of the villages nestled in the shadow of the towering mountains. The village is eerily quiet, and as they walk through the narrow, winding streets, they notice a troubling pattern. Many of the houses bear signs of recent construction—freshly cut timber, newly laid stone, and yet, these same houses are already showing signs of damage. Cracks run through the walls, and roofs are partially collapsed, as if the village has been repeatedly hit by something powerful.
Lillie's eyes scan the area with concern. "These houses… they've been rebuilt recently, but they're already falling apart."
Golly nods, her expression somber. "This is a common sight in the Dracodawn Kingdom. The dragons that live in the mountains are powerful and often aggressive. When they rampage, entire villages can be destroyed in an instant. The people rebuild, but it's only a matter of time before the next attack."
Ash steps closer to one of the damaged houses, running his hand along a cracked wall. "So they keep rebuilding, knowing it's going to be destroyed again? That's… that's awful."
A local villager, overhearing their conversation, approaches them. His face is lined with exhaustion, and his shoulders sag under the weight of despair. "It's the way of life here," he says, his voice rough with weariness. "We build our homes, we rebuild them when the dragons come, and then we wait for the next time. There's nothing we can do to stop it."
Lillie looks at the man with sympathy. "Why doesn't the king do something to protect you?"
The villager shakes his head. "King Draconis is more focused on taming the dragons for his own power. The safety of our homes is secondary. He believes the dragons are a force to be controlled, not managed. And so, we live in fear, knowing that our homes—and our lives—could be taken at any moment."
Ash's expression hardens as he listens to the villager's words. "This isn't right. People shouldn't have to live like this, constantly rebuilding and living in fear."
The villager sighs. "It's been this way for generations. We've learned to accept it because we have no other choice. But that doesn't mean we don't wish for something better."
Golly turns to Ash, her voice filled with resolve. "This is what happens when power is prioritized over the well-being of the people. King Draconis's obsession with control has left these villages vulnerable, and the people pay the price."
Ash looks around at the crumbling homes and the weary faces of the villagers. "This can't go on. If the king won't protect his people, then someone has to step in and make things right."
As Ash, Lillie, and Golly reach the outskirts of the grand castle that looms over the Dracodawn Kingdom, the signs of conflict are impossible to ignore. The castle's walls are marred with deep gouges, and the blackened stone tells tales of countless battles fought over the years. The tension in the air is palpable, a stark contrast to the oppressive quiet that hangs over the rest of the kingdom.
Golly's expression darkens as they observe the castle from a distance. "This kingdom has a long history of internal strife," she begins, her voice steady but heavy with the weight of what she's about to reveal. "Wars here aren't just fought against outside forces; they've been waged within the kingdom itself, even among the royal family."
Ash's eyes narrow as he takes in the battle-worn fortress. "Even the royal family?" he thinks, the question forming in his mind. The idea of family members turning against each other over power and control unsettles him deeply.
Lillie's gaze is fixed on the castle, her mind racing as she processes Golly's words. "Is this all about power?" she wonders silently. The thought of such relentless pursuit of dominance, even at the cost of familial bonds, fills her with a sense of dread.
Golly continues, her voice tinged with sorrow. "King Draconis's rule is built on absolute control—not just over the dragons, but over everyone in the kingdom. This obsession with power has led to bitter divisions. Rival factions within the royal family have clashed over the throne, and these conflicts have often turned violent, leaving scars on both the land and its people."
As they watch, a squadron of soldiers returns to the castle, their armor battered and their movements heavy with fatigue. The tension among them is almost tangible, as if they've just come from yet another skirmish, possibly against their own kin. The sight of these weary warriors serves as a silent testament to the ongoing strife that plagues the kingdom.
Ash's fists clench at his sides as he witnesses the scene unfold. "This isn't how it's supposed to be," he thinks, anger and frustration welling up within him. "A kingdom tearing itself apart from the inside… it's wrong."
Lillie, sensing the same unease, feels a cold shiver run down her spine. "How can they keep fighting like this?" she silently questions. "It's like a never-ending cycle of destruction."
Golly's gaze remains fixed on the castle, her thoughts mirroring the heavy atmosphere. "This is the reality of the Dracodawn Kingdom," she reflects. "A kingdom once proud and strong, now weakened by its own internal wars. And all because of the relentless pursuit of power."
As they prepare to leave the kingdom, the gravity of what they've seen weighs heavily on them. The Dracodawn Kingdom, despite its outward strength, is crumbling from within. Ash knows that these conflicts are far from over, and as they move on to the next kingdom, a deep resolve begins to take root in his heart.
Here is the Dragon Kingdom, this one is hard to think of because Dragons are not easy to related to something else.
