Chapter 20 Faerun Kingdom
As Ash, Lillie, and Golly approach the Faerun Kingdom, the atmosphere begins to shift, embracing them in an almost ethereal glow. The rugged mountains and dense forests of the previous kingdoms give way to a landscape that feels like it belongs to another realm entirely. The ground beneath their feet is soft, covered in a blanket of vibrant, mossy earth that seems to cushion every step. Delicate, pastel-colored flowers bloom in abundance, their petals shimmering with an iridescent sheen as they gently sway in a breeze that carries the sweet scent of nature.
Above them, the sky is a soft pink, as if touched by the first light of dawn, despite the time of day. The light filters through the leaves of towering, ancient trees, casting dappled shadows on the ground that dance with the movement of the wind. The trees themselves seem to be alive with a subtle, pulsating energy, their trunks twisted and gnarled in shapes that hint at faces and figures hidden within the bark.
Golly gestures toward the scene, her voice hushed in reverence. "This is the Faerun Kingdom, a place where the boundaries between the physical world and the mystical are blurred. The entire kingdom is infused with the power of the Pixie Plate, giving everything here an aura of magic and enchantment."
Ash takes in the sight, his eyes wide with wonder. "It's like stepping into a fairy tale," he thinks, marveling at the beauty that surrounds them. The air is filled with the soft hum of unseen wings, and every now and then, a flicker of light catches his eye as tiny, luminescent creatures dart among the flowers and trees.
Lillie gazes around in awe, her voice barely above a whisper. "It's so peaceful here… like a dream. Everything feels so light, so delicate."
As they move further into the kingdom, they pass by sparkling streams that weave through the landscape like silver threads. The water is crystal clear, reflecting the pink-hued sky above, and it flows with a gentle, soothing sound that adds to the tranquil atmosphere. The path they follow is lined with glowing mushrooms that emit a soft, golden light, guiding them deeper into the heart of the kingdom.
Golly continues to speak, her tone filled with admiration. "The Faerun Kingdom is a place where time seems to stand still. The power of the Pixie Plate has created a world where nature and magic are in perfect harmony. It's a kingdom unlike any other, a sanctuary of peace and beauty."
Ash feels a sense of calm wash over him as they walk, the troubles of the outside world momentarily forgotten. "This place… it's incredible," he thinks, his heart swelling with a quiet joy. But even as he admires the serene beauty of the Faerun Kingdom, he knows that their journey is far from over, and that this peaceful façade may hide challenges yet to come.
As they delve deeper into the Faerun Kingdom, Golly begins to recount one of the most well-known tales from this mystical land. The soft hum of magic in the air seems to grow stronger as she speaks, as if the very kingdom itself is alive with the echoes of this ancient story.
"Many generations ago," Golly begins, her voice soft yet clear, "there was a young princess in the Faerun Kingdom who was beloved by all for her kindness and innocence. She was known for wearing a bright red cloak, a gift from her grandmother, who lived in a cottage deep within the enchanted forest that surrounds this kingdom. The princess would often visit her grandmother, bringing her baskets filled with treats and medicine."
Ash and Lillie listen closely as Golly continues, the story weaving a picture of a time long past. "One day, as the princess was making her way through the forest, she was unaware that a great danger lurked among the trees. A cunning and fearsome Zoroark, who was drawn to the magic of the Pixie Plate that infused the land, had been watching her for some time. This Zoroark, unlike others of its kind, had been corrupted by dark magic and sought to consume the princess to gain the power that flowed within her veins."
"The Zoroark approached the princess under the guise of a friendly traveler," Golly continues, her tone growing darker, "and asked her where she was going. Trusting and kind as she was, the princess told the traveler about her grandmother's cottage deep in the forest. The Zoroark, hungry for the power he believed the princess held, concocted a plan. He told the princess of a shortcut through the woods, a path that would get her to her grandmother's house much faster."
Ash's eyes narrow as he listens, sensing where the story is headed. Golly's voice lowers, as if sharing a secret. "The princess, not suspecting any ill intent, took the path the Zoroark suggested. Meanwhile, the Zoroark took the longer, direct route and reached the grandmother's cottage first. There, it used its Illusion ability to disguise itself as the old woman, locking her away and waiting for the princess to arrive."
"When the princess finally reached the cottage, she was surprised by how different her 'grandmother' looked, but it wasn't until it was too late that she realized the truth. The Zoroark revealed itself and tried to overpower the princess to claim her power. But, the princess had unknowingly carried a piece of the Pixie Plate with her, given by her grandmother for protection. The moment the Zoroark lunged at her, the magic of the Pixie Plate activated, trapping the Zoroark in a magical stasis, where it could do no harm."
Lillie's eyes widen as the tale unfolds. "So, the princess was saved by the magic of the Pixie Plate?"
Golly nods. "Yes, the princess was saved, and the Zoroark was banished from the kingdom. The people of Faerun learned from this tale the importance of vigilance, even in a land as beautiful and peaceful as this. The story of the princess in the red cloak became a legend, reminding all who hear it that while beauty and magic can protect, they can also attract danger."
Ash reflects on the story, understanding the deeper message behind the tale. "So, even in a place like this, where everything seems perfect, there's always a need to be careful."
Golly finishes with a nod, "Exactly. The Faerun Kingdom may seem like a paradise, but its history teaches us that magic, while wondrous, must be respected and guarded."
As Ash, Lillie, and Golly continue their journey through the Faerun Kingdom, they begin to notice subtle but significant details about the society within this magical realm. The pathways are lined with statues and carvings that depict strong, graceful female figures—warriors, healers, and leaders—all portrayed with an air of reverence. The influence of Queen Elara, the current ruler, is evident everywhere, as the kingdom reflects her ideals and governance.
Golly gestures toward a large mural etched into the side of a cliff, showing scenes of life in the kingdom. "Queen Elara's reign has seen the elevation of females to positions of great power and respect," she explains, her voice carrying a note of caution. "Under her rule, females are often revered for their perceived stronger connection to the kingdom's magic. However, this has created a society where males are often marginalized and seen as less important."
Ash observes the mural closely, noticing that the male figures depicted are often in the background, their roles minimized compared to the dominant, central female figures. "It's like they're just… there," he thinks, sensing the imbalance in how the kingdom views its citizens.
Lillie, too, picks up on this disparity. "I can't help but feel that something's off," she muses internally. "There's so much beauty and harmony here, but it seems to come at the expense of equality."
As they move deeper into the kingdom, they pass by areas where groups of females are engaged in various activities—training with Pokémon, studying ancient texts, or performing rituals tied to the kingdom's magic. These scenes are full of life and purpose, but when they observe the males, the contrast is stark. The males are often relegated to menial tasks or seen standing idly by, their expressions subdued, as if they know they have little to contribute in the eyes of Queen Elara.
Golly's voice drops slightly as she continues. "This imbalance has been in place for generations, ever since Queen Elara's lineage took control. It's believed that females have a stronger connection to the mystical energy that permeates this land, and thus, they've been elevated to positions of power and influence. But this has led to a society where males are often overlooked, their potential untapped."
Ash feels a pang of sympathy as he watches a group of young males quietly tending to a garden, their actions careful but devoid of the enthusiasm he's seen in other regions. "This isn't fair," he thinks. "Everyone should have the chance to reach their full potential, no matter who they are."
As they move on, the trio reflects on the complexity of the Faerun Kingdom—a place of beauty and magic, but also a place where the scales of equality are tipped heavily in favor of one side, under the rule of Queen Elara.
As Ash, Lillie, and Golly continue their exploration of the Faerun Kingdom, they venture into a part of the forest that feels distinctly different from the rest. The once vibrant and enchanting atmosphere grows darker, with twisted, gnarled trees casting long, ominous shadows. The air grows colder, and a sense of unease begins to settle over the trio.
Golly leads them deeper into the woods, her voice quiet but filled with tension. "This part of the kingdom is shrouded in darkness for a reason. It's said that Queen Elara herself, in her quest to maintain her beauty and youth, made a pact with the witches of Faerun. These witches have the power to steal the beauty and vitality of others, and they use it to keep the queen and her court eternally youthful."
Ash feels a surge of anger as Golly's words sink in. "So the queen sacrifices the people of her own kingdom just to stay young?"
Golly nods, her expression grim. "Yes. The witches lure young women from the kingdom into these woods, promising them magical gifts or disguising themselves as kindly old women. Once they have the women in their grasp, they drain their beauty and youth, leaving them withered and aged far beyond their years. The queen benefits from this dark magic, while the victims are cast aside, forgotten by the world."
Lillie's face pales as she takes in the twisted trees and the faint, ghostly images that seem to flicker just out of sight. "It's horrifying… this place was supposed to be beautiful, but underneath, it's filled with suffering."
As they stand in the clearing, the trio can't help but notice the remnants of the witches' dark work—withered petals and broken branches litter the ground, symbols of the lives that have been destroyed to maintain the queen's illusion of perfection.
Ash's fists clench as he watches the spectral images of past victims fade into the shadows. "This is wrong on so many levels," he thinks, his resolve hardening. "The people of this kingdom deserve better than to be sacrificed for the vanity of a corrupt ruler."
Golly's voice is heavy with sorrow as she continues. "Queen Elara's obsession with beauty has led her to make deals with dark forces, and the witches have become a blight on this kingdom. The people live in fear, knowing that at any moment, they or their loved ones could be the next victims, taken to feed the queen's vanity."
As they leave the clearing, the oppressive atmosphere lingers, reminding them of the darkness that hides beneath the Faerun Kingdom's enchanting exterior. Ash knows that this kingdom, like so many others, is in desperate need of change—a change that might only come when the truth about its rulers is exposed.
As Ash, Lillie, and Golly make their way through the heart of the Faerun Kingdom, they notice a grand building nestled among the ancient trees, its architecture as elegant and intricate as the rest of the kingdom. However, as they draw closer, they see that the building, which they initially assume to be a place of learning, is not as welcoming as it appears. The once-vibrant gardens surrounding it are overgrown, and the building itself shows signs of neglect.
Golly's expression tightens as they approach. "This is the Faerun Academy, the kingdom's main institution for education," she explains, though her tone lacks the enthusiasm one might expect. "But the reality here is far from the idealized image that Queen Elara promotes."
Ash and Lillie exchange concerned glances as they peer through the windows of the academy. Inside, they see a few students huddled together, their expressions dull and uninterested. The classrooms are sparsely populated, and the air of neglect is palpable. The atmosphere within the academy is oppressive, as if the weight of expectations and the lack of real opportunities have drained the life from the place.
Lillie's brow furrows as she takes in the scene. "Why does it feel so… empty?" she wonders silently. "This place should be full of life, of students eager to learn. But instead…"
Golly continues, her voice low and serious. "The problem here is rooted in the kingdom's hierarchy. Education is strictly controlled by Queen Elara and her council. The curriculum is rigid, focused on maintaining the status quo rather than fostering creativity or critical thinking. Only the daughters of the most privileged families receive a truly comprehensive education, while others are left with the bare minimum."
Ash watches as a teacher, looking just as disinterested as the students, goes through the motions of a lesson. "So, it's all about control," he thinks. "They're not teaching these kids to think for themselves—they're just molding them into what the queen wants them to be."
Golly nods as if reading his thoughts. "Exactly. The education system here stifles potential. Boys are often given even less attention, reinforcing the idea that they're not as important as the girls in this kingdom. And those who don't fit into the mold that's been created for them? They're left to flounder, with little hope of advancing in society."
As they continue to observe, they notice a group of students being led out of the academy by a stern-looking instructor. The students walk in a single file, heads down, as if burdened by the knowledge that their futures are already predetermined.
Lillie feels a pang of sadness as she watches them. "It's like they've given up," she thinks. "They're just going through the motions, with no real passion or drive."
Ash's expression hardens. "This isn't what education should be," he thinks resolutely. "Learning should be about discovery, about unlocking potential—not about enforcing obedience."
As they leave the vicinity of the academy, the trio reflects on the troubling state of education in the Faerun Kingdom. What should be a beacon of hope and growth has instead become a tool for maintaining control, leaving many of the kingdom's youth with little to no opportunity to thrive. The Faerun Kingdom, with all its outward beauty and enchantment, hides deep-rooted issues that cannot be ignored.
Here is the Fairy Type Kingdom, and this one is also hard to think because how bad things are related to Fairy Type. I hope you like it and we have three left.
