Chapter 23 Galecrest Kingdom

As Ash, Lillie, and Golly approach the Galecrest Kingdom, the air around them shifts dramatically. The landscape transforms into vast, open skies with towering cliffs and floating islands suspended by powerful updrafts. The wind howls through the narrow mountain passes, carrying with it the distant cries of bird Pokémon that circle high above, their wings slicing through the air with effortless grace.

The trio moves cautiously, their eyes scanning the skies for any signs of danger. Ash, in particular, feels a familiar tension in his injured shoulder—the very shoulder that was struck by a missile from this kingdom's jets when they first entered the United Region. The memory of that attack is still fresh in his mind, fueling his determination as they press on.

"This is where it happened," Ash murmurs, his voice tight with a mix of pain and resolve. "The Galecrest Kingdom… they're the ones who attacked us."

Lillie places a hand on Ash's arm, her expression filled with concern. "We need to be careful. If they find out we're here, they might try something like that again."

Golly, her gaze fixed on the horizon, nods in agreement. "Galecrest is known for its formidable aerial defenses. The entire kingdom is built around the concept of air superiority. The winds and skies are their domain, and they'll do anything to protect it."

As they continue forward, the trio notices the massive airships patrolling the skies, their sleek, metallic forms glinting in the sunlight. The air is thick with tension, and the sense of being watched is almost palpable. The Galecrest Kingdom is a place of power and vigilance, where the slightest misstep could lead to disaster.

As they traverse the windswept paths of the Galecrest Kingdom, Golly begins to share the story of its origins, her voice steady against the backdrop of howling winds.

"The Galecrest Kingdom wasn't always the formidable force it is today," Golly starts. "In fact, its beginnings were quite humble, tied to the legend of a young boy named Jack."

Lillie perks up at the familiar name. "Jack? As in Jack and the Beanstalk?"

Golly nods, a small smile playing on her lips. "That's right. The tale says that Jack was a poor boy living in a small village at the base of what is now known as the Galecrest Mountains. One day, he traded his family's last cow for a handful of magical beans. His mother, furious, threw the beans out of the window, but by morning, they had sprouted into a massive beanstalk reaching up into the clouds."

Ash listens intently, intrigued by how such a story could lead to the kingdom they now find themselves in.

"Jack, being curious and brave, climbed the beanstalk and discovered a giant's castle high above the clouds," Golly continues. "There, he found treasures beyond imagination, but it wasn't just wealth that Jack brought back. In his final encounter with the giant, he managed to defeat him by chopping down the beanstalk, sending the giant plummeting to his doom."

"And that's how he became king?" Ash asks, already guessing the outcome.

"Not quite," Golly replies. "With the giant gone, the sky above the mountains became clear and calm, making it possible for Jack to establish a kingdom there. Using the riches he brought down from the castle, Jack built the first settlements on the floating islands you see today. His cleverness, bravery, and resourcefulness earned him the loyalty of the people, and they made him their first king."

Lillie smiles at the thought. "So, the kingdom started with a boy who dared to reach for the sky."

Golly nods, her voice filled with reverence for the tale. "Exactly. Jack's legacy lives on in the very foundations of Galecrest, where reaching for the sky isn't just a dream—it's a way of life."

As Ash, Lillie, and Golly move deeper into the Galecrest Kingdom, the wind grows stronger, carrying with it a sense of foreboding. The skies above are filled with the sound of engines humming—a constant reminder of the aerial forces that patrol this kingdom. It isn't long before they come across a massive outpost nestled among the cliffs, where sleek, high-tech aircraft are stationed in perfect rows, ready for deployment at a moment's notice.

"This is where they control the skies," Golly says, her voice low and serious. "The Galecrest Kingdom has long been known for its dominance of the air, and under Queen Zephyra's rule, they've expanded their influence far beyond these borders."

Ash's gaze narrows as he watches several fighter jets take off, their engines roaring as they ascend into the clouds. "These are the same forces that attacked us when we first arrived in the United Region," he says, feeling a familiar tension in his shoulder where the missile had struck him. "They've locked down the entire region."

Lillie looks around, her face pale with concern. "But why? Why would they go to such lengths to keep people out?"

Golly explains, "Queen Zephyra believes that the United Region must remain isolated from the rest of the world. She's convinced that the outside world's influence would weaken the kingdom's strength and independence. To enforce this, she's deployed her aerial forces around the region's borders, making it impossible for any plane to enter or leave without her express permission."

Ash clenches his fists, anger simmering beneath the surface. "So she's using these forces to control who comes in and out, keeping the region under her rule and cutting it off from everyone else."

Golly nods grimly. "Exactly. It's a display of power and control. Queen Zephyra sees it as protecting her kingdom, but in reality, it's just another way to keep the people of the United Region isolated and under her thumb."

As the trio ventures further into the Galecrest Kingdom, the skies above begin to shift ominously. What was once a clear day quickly turns into a swirling mass of dark clouds. The wind picks up, whipping through the mountain passes with a force that makes it difficult to stand. Ash, Lillie, and Golly instinctively huddle together as the temperature drops, and rain begins to fall in heavy sheets.

"This weather… it changed so suddenly," Lillie says, her voice barely audible over the howling wind.

Golly's expression is grim as she looks up at the darkened sky. "This isn't natural. Queen Zephyra has long controlled the weather in the Galecrest Kingdom. It's said that she uses powerful Flying-type Pokémon to manipulate the winds, rain, and storms. It's part of how she maintains her dominance over the region."

Ash tightens his grip on his cap, trying to keep it from being blown away by the gusts. "So, she controls the skies and the weather? That gives her even more power over the kingdom."

Golly nods. "Exactly. By controlling the weather, she can create storms to keep invaders at bay or ensure that her people remain dependent on her for favorable conditions. Crops, travel, even daily life—all of it can be influenced by her whims. It's another tool she uses to keep the region isolated and under her control."

As they struggle to make their way through the storm, the trio notices how the winds seem to guide them, almost pushing them in a specific direction. The rain pelts down relentlessly, making it difficult to see more than a few feet ahead. It's clear that the weather is being manipulated, not just as a display of power, but as a means of control.

"This is how she keeps everyone in line," Lillie says, shivering from the cold. "By making them fear the very skies above them."

Ash grits his teeth, his resolve hardening. "We have to find a way to stop her. No one should have this much control over the lives of others."

As the storm begins to subside, Ash, Lillie, and Golly continue their trek through the treacherous terrain of the Galecrest Kingdom. The air is thick with tension, and the trio remains on high alert, aware that danger could come from above at any moment. As they reach a high cliff overlooking a vast expanse of sky, they hear distant shouts carried on the wind.

Curious and concerned, they cautiously approach the edge of the cliff, where they see a group of guards gathered around a platform jutting out into the open air. To their horror, they witness a man being dragged to the platform, his hands bound, his face pale with fear. The guards force him to stand at the edge, overlooking the dizzying drop to the clouds below.

"This can't be what I think it is," Lillie whispers, her voice trembling as she realizes the gravity of the situation.

Golly's expression hardens, her eyes narrowing with anger. "It's exactly what you think. This is Queen Zephyra's most feared form of punishment. Those who defy her rule or break her strict laws are brought here and dropped from the skies. It's meant to be a public display of power, a reminder to everyone in the kingdom of the consequences of disobedience."

Ash watches in horror as the man struggles against his captors, but it's no use. The guards show no mercy as they push him off the platform. The man's scream echoes through the air as he plummets toward the ground far below, disappearing into the clouds.

"This is monstrous," Ash says, his voice shaking with barely contained fury. "She's using fear to control the entire kingdom."

Golly nods grimly. "Queen Zephyra has no tolerance for dissent. In her eyes, anyone who challenges her authority is a threat that must be eliminated. And what better way to do that than to strike fear into the hearts of her people by showing them the ultimate price for defiance?"

Lillie turns away, unable to watch any longer. "We can't let this continue, Ash. We have to find a way to stop her."

Ash clenches his fists, determination blazing in his eyes. "We will. No one should have to live under this kind of terror. We'll find a way to bring her down and free the people of the Galecrest Kingdom from her cruelty."

With a final glance at the platform, the trio turns away, their resolve stronger than ever. As they leave the kingdom behind, they know that the battle against Queen Zephyra will be their greatest challenge yet, but it's a challenge they're ready to face head-on.

That night, under the cover of darkness, Ash, Lillie, and Golly make their way back to the Viridale Kingdom's Team Alpha Base. As they approach, the familiar sight of the base brings a sense of relief, a momentary reprieve from the tensions of the past few days. The people of the base, including Ash's family, are there to greet them, their faces lighting up with hope and curiosity as the trio steps inside.

Delia, Ash's mother, is the first to approach, her eyes searching his face for any sign of what they've been through. "So you've come back," she says softly, though there's a firmness in her voice. "How did you feel after seeing the 18 kingdoms for three days?"

Ash exchanges a look with Lillie, and they both nod in silent agreement. Taking a deep breath, Ash steps forward, his expression hardening with the emotions that have been simmering inside him.

"Mom, it was… it was worse than I imagined," Ash begins, his voice laced with anger and sadness. "The suffering, the cruelty, the way people are being treated—it's beyond anything I've ever seen. Each kingdom we visited had its own horrors, but it all came down to the same thing: people are living in fear, oppressed by rulers who care more about their power than their people."

Lillie steps up beside Ash, her voice trembling slightly but filled with determination. "We saw things that no one should ever have to witness. People being forced to work until they drop, others being punished in ways that… that are just inhumane. These rulers are using fear and suffering to control everyone, and it's tearing the region apart."

Delia nods solemnly, her gaze sweeping over the gathered members of Team Alpha. "Everyone here feels the same way, which is why we can't let this continue. Ash, as the Devil Prince and my son, it is your destiny to overthrow these royalties and free the people and Pokémon in the United Region."

Ash meets his mother's gaze, his expression resolute. "You're right. However, I also request that I use my title as the World Champion to go to the Pokémon League Association. I want to bring reinforcements."

Lillie steps forward, holding up her Rotom Phone. "I've recorded everything we've seen," she says, determination shining in her eyes. "By showing the nine regions the truth, it's the nine regions against the 18 kingdoms. I'm sure they will all agree to help us out."

Trenor, his brow furrowed with concern, asks, "But are you sure you're going to let the other regions get involved in this? What if they refuse?"

Mark, always the strategist, shakes his head. "Maybe it will work because there aren't any official relationships between the United Region and the other nine regions. This is about justice."

Minami steps forward, her voice filled with conviction. "I agree. Besides, if the Champions, Elite Four, Gym Leaders, and Elite Trainers all help out, the less time the people here need to suffer."

Insey, thoughtful and wise beyond her years, adds, "Since Brother is going to be the future ruler of the region, maybe after the conquest, it will be great to establish diplomatic relationships."

Golly places a hand on Ash's shoulder, her voice soft but strong. "We're in this together."

Delia nods, her eyes filled with both pride and determination. "Then let's move quickly. We need to bring this to the world's attention."

With that, Delia leads Ash and Lillie to the teleportation panel, a shimmering platform at the heart of the base. The panel links directly to the Aether Foundation in the Alola Region, where they plan to ask Lillie's family for help in reaching the Pokémon League Association headquarters.

As the panel hums to life, Ash takes a deep breath, feeling the weight of his responsibility as both the Devil Prince and the World Champion. Lillie stands beside him, her resolve unwavering. Together, they step onto the platform, ready to rally the world against the tyranny of the 18 kingdoms.

Here is a new chapter, and in this chapter, you can see we're done with the kingdom's exploring. The next chapter will be the meeting of the Champions and Ash's declaration of war.
