Chapter 2

Vi took the paper she was handed earlier and began carefully tearing it into 3 different sheets. She wrote a quick response to Ekko replying that she would meet him.

She then began writing two more letters to different recipients, as she began forming her plan. She knew even if everything she planned went perfectly that this would still be a long shot. But she could no longer continue to live in darkness, hiding from the monsters chasing her.

Morning finally broke, while Vi's eyes began to feel heavy from being up all night forming a plan to save her sister. Just as she sat back to allow herself rest, a knock could be heard, throwing her into another state of panic.

"Miss Vi, I'm hear to collect your letter".

Vi found herself surprised as she never saw her savior in daylight. She found her way to the door looking out, making sure he was alone, before opening the door.

"Apparently the enforcers have been ordered to back off, allowing us a bit more freedom I suppose". Said the man.

Vi immediately thought about Caitlyn, how she might actually be doing something. But no that no longer mattered. Must stay focused she thought.

As she was handing him her response to Ekko she asked the man. "can you get a letter to someone else too"?

"Depends on who they are, but should be able to. Might take a little extra time though, if they are a hard target to find".

"Well if you could get this to someone for me, I would be more than appreciative, and I wont be returning after tomorrow night".

Vi handed the man the 2nd note with a name on top, while putting the 3rd into her own pocket.

"Yes Miss Vi I will do my very best".

"Thank you for everything, I would have never survived these last few weeks without you".

Vi leaned forward giving the man a small hug.

After the man left, Vi settled in to try and get some rest. She knew the next few days were going to be crazy and stressful, and she was going to need as much sleep as possible.

With the streets being more quiet than usual, Vi found herself falling into a deep sleep.

In darkness she heard screaming. She couldn't find where it was coming from. She was running around in a panic trying to find the source as the screams began to get louder. Flashes of blue and pink filled the darkness. Vi looked down as she stepped in a deep wet substance. Red dripped from her boots, as she walked closer to the source of the screams. A dark cell with just enough light beaming through to show a small figure laying on the ground. She walked closer to the cell to see a young girl laying in a pool of blood screaming for her mom to save her. Just then a fist slammed down into the young girls face, stopping the screams immediately. Vi ran foreword to the cell, but could not open the doors. Vi screamed, slamming her body into the cell doors, trying to break them open. They didn't budge. She prepared herself for another slam into the doors, when the young girl rolled over bringing her face into view. Vi immediately fell backwards falling into the pool of blood, as she looked upon a younger version of herself. Vi began to panic, when a young blue haired girl came into view. The young girl walked over to the cell, looking down at her younger self. She reached through the bars and began rubbing the blood soaked hair out the girls face, while humming a soft tune. Vi tried to get up, to go over to the cell, but every time she tried to stand she would slip deeper in the blood. Just then a large man began quickly walking towards the 2 girls. Vi screamed, urging the blue haired girl to run. But she continued humming, with her hand still on the face of the girl in the cell. The man getting closer. Vi still unable to catch her footing. Vi screamed louder as warm red liquid began pouring over her face.

Vi was screaming as her eyes opened. Warm rain was pouring through the broken roof, covering her in a warm wet blanket. Vi still in a panic jumped to her feet wiping her face of the rain. It had been days since she had a nightmare. She never seemed to allow herself into a deep enough sleep to have one. But exhaustion had finally taken its toll.

Vi shook off the feelings from the nightmare, grateful for the water that helped wash away some of the filth she had accumulated over the past few weeks.

Only parts of the undercity were able to get rain, or any other weather, most places were covered, to deep below the surface to experience anything but darkness. Vi's shack lay on the outer edges, slightly closer to the surface than most. Vi was grateful for this. It allowed her small amounts of sunlight, and gave her the ability to count her days. She knew her time to meet Ekko was coming close. Her plans needed to be put into place, there would be no room for a mistake.

Vi gathered herself and set out to meet Ekko. She gave herself plenty of time in case she ran into trouble. She was surprised how empty the streets were, but knew she needed to keep to the darkness in case she ran into any gangs. As she got closer to her meeting spot with Ekko, she decided to scope the area out just in case. She trusted Ekko, but worried he might not show up alone. She found a good spot, giving her vision of anyone coming or going. All that was left, was to wait.

Vi sat patiently awaiting her old friend. "friend" Vi thought. Those were becoming fewer in numbers these days. She once thought of Caitlyn as a friend, possibly more? "No", she thought. Caitlyn deserved much more than she could ever give her. A broken shell of a person. Caitlyn would never lower her standards for Vi. She was sure her only use to Caitlyn was information on Silco, something that got her a promotion. Ya sure she asked Vi to stick around and become an enforcer, but that was only because she had just lost her mother and needed a warm body for support. "Caitlyn would have thrown me away like trash, once I was no longer of use". Vi whispered, as if trying to convince herself of this.

Suddenly a shadow appeared coming into the alley, pulling Vi from her destructive thoughts. The person walked slowly in the darkness until they appeared just under where Vi was located. Vi remained quiet until she was sure it was Ekko, hoping they would reveal themselves soon. Minutes passed as Vi was beginning to panic.

"You going to come down from there already". Ekko said as he looked straight up at Vi.

Vi, now frustrated jumped down from the ledge she was crouched from. "Well if you knew I was there why didn't you say something sooner".

"Well where's the fun in that"? Chuckled Ekko.

Ekko began walking around Vi, looking her up and down. "You look like shit".

"Sorry my maid quit on me the other day, so the laundry hasn't gotten done". Exclaimed Vi with extreme sarcasm".

"When's the last time you ate any food, you look like you have lost a good 20lbs"?

"I'll let the private chef know princess Ekko doesn't approve of the diet he has me on".

Ekko chuckled, but felt his chest tighten, as he felt real concern for his friend in front him, that he barely recognized. To him Vi didn't just look dirty, or to skinny, she looked like she had lost all the light she once had in her. She looked empty.

"So what's it going to take for you to come back with me? The firelight's need someone like you to help flight. We are making great progress too, especially now that we are able to team up with Caitlyn and the enforcers". Ekko saw Vi's face wince at the sound of Caitlyn's name. "She will forgive you, you know".

"I don't want her forgiveness". Vi yelled. "And I damn sure don't want to fight with you".

Ekko knew he needed to tread lightly. Vi was losing herself, her will to fight for the greater good. "You don't have to fight with us then. Just come back with me, come have a meal, take a warm bath, have a safe place to sleep".

Vi took a few minutes to answer as she carefully thought about the next thing to say. "Do you really think Caitlyn will forgive me"?

"Of course I do. She asks about you every time we meet up".

"Do you think she should would agree to meet with me, with us? I don't think I could fight with you guys knowing she hates me. I just need her to know, need her to understand why I had to leave".

"Of course".

"Do you think she would meet with us tomorrow night. Maybe around midnight?"

"Probably, but why so late"?

"I just don't feel safe. Being out on the open without the cover of darkness".

"Well you will be safe with us. You don't have to worry about that".

"No I can't return with you now, not until I get to talk to Caitlyn first. I need her to meet me, I need her." Vi's words became unsteady, as she became more rushed, as if she were in a panic state.

Ekko reached his hands forward towards Vi, but Vi backed up quickly not allowing Ekko to touch her. "OK, ok, I'll get Caitlyn to meet us tomorrow midnight, where at"?

"Under the tower bridge, east side".

"OK, I know you won't come back with me tonight, but I brought you a few things anyway, it's not much but at least you won't go hungry tonight". Ekko took the back pack off his shoulders and reached it out.

Vi grabbed the bag and threw it around her shoulders. "I need to go before they see me".

"I don't think your in anymore danger" said Ekko as he looked at a fidgety Vi. "The gangs are mostly disbanded, Jinx, and Sevika are the only really threats now".

Vi straightened up at the sound of Jinxes name. "I gotta go". Vi turned on her heels and took off before Ekko had a chance to realize what just happened.
