Despite the residents of Krakoa largely being mutants and thus supposedly accepting of other weirdos, not everyone was. Some were prejudiced against those with disabilities, those who were LGBT, or even against mutants who could not pass for human.
Roxy fell into two of those categories. She was a humanoid diamond, and she was also a lesbian. Even among her mutant peers, she was still not accepted by some of them.
Cessily also fell into those same two categories. She had a metal body and could alter her shape at will. Only she was bisexual.
'Come on,' she said, coming from behind Roxy. 'We're going to be late.'
'We can't be late for Pride,' said Roxy.
'We can when the Pride march will have started without us,' Cessily complained.
'Is itreally a Pride parade when we know literally everyone who's going to be in it?' asked Roxy.
'Why wouldn't it be?' asked Cessily. 'Just because we know them, doesn't make it any less of a Pride parade. I mean, we know just about everyone on Krakoa anyway.'
Roxy shrugged and turned around. 'I guess that's true.'
Cessily took a small step back.
'What are you doing?' Roxy asked.
'I love it when you catch the sun,' Cessily said.
'No you don't,' Roxy said.
Cessily shook her head. 'Roxy. You've got to stop putting yourself down. You're beautiful. You're kind, you're funny - you're amazing.'
'You don't have problems with the way you look -'
Cessily snorted. 'Have you seen me? I look like a T-1000, but without the human skin.'
'At least you can use an iPhone without scratching it to hell and back,' Roxy pointed out.
Cessily let out a soft chuckle and put her hand on Roxy's face. Then she leaned in for the kiss.
Roxy put her arms around Cessily, pulling her closer, taking in the kiss, the moment. Just being there and having Cessily be there. It was the best feeling and couldn't get any better.
For Cessily's part, she felt as though she could melt right into the kiss and into Roxy's arms - she had to pull back check herself, just to ensure she hadn't.
'Something wrong?' asked Roxy.
Cessily shook her head. 'No.' The truth was, she could kiss Roxy forever, especially since she didn't really need to breathe anymore. Roxy too, probably, given she's living diamond.
But that couldn't happen for a number of reasons.
'Let's get ready for Pride,' she said.
Roxy just nodded. 'Okay.' She noticed Cessily was already draped in the bi flag, so Roxy simply grabbed her lesbian pride flag which had been laid out in preparation on her bed.
Together they went, hand in hand to join their fellow LGBT mutants in Krakoa's inaugural Pride parade.
It wasn't a large Pride parade. Not all mutants had chosen to relocate to Krakoa, after all. And yes, they did know or know of pretty much everyone else marching.
But it didn't matter. They were simply proud to be who they were.
