While making a delivery in the Historic District in Empire City,Cole is instructed to open the package. In doing this,he activates the Ray Sphere,leveling six city blocks, nearly killing him,and granting him electrokinetic powers. Rescued by Zeke & Trish,he teaches himself to control his powers.
Cole his from the locals,who accused him for the caused. Cole meets an FBI Agent,Moya Jones,who tells him that the city is being ransacked by the Reapers,sent by a madman named Kessler. She tells him to find her husband,John White,who was tasked with investigating a group called the First Sons.
Cole was lured to underground by Sasha. After he defeats her,Sasha was abducted by the Sons. He meets Alden Tate,leader of the First Sons,who reveals that Kessler is a former member before he was exiled.
Cole meets White,who turns out to be an NSA Agent with no connection to Moya. He explains that the Ray Sphere is designed to consume bio-energy from thousands of lives and transfer it to a single user,making them a Conduit.
Kessler publicly challenges Cole to stop the bombing across the district. He begun trying to stop the bombing,but 10 people are killed,including Trish. Determine to avenge Trish,Cole tracks the Sphere and destroys it,but the Sphere turns out to be a Vortex,killing John.
Cole confronts Kessler,who reveals to be Cole from an alternate timeline. While raising a family with Trish,Cole fails to prevent the Beast from destroying humanity and his family were killed. He sends himself back in time,taking the name Kessler,He had the doctor create a Ray Sphere and have him sent to Cole before seizing control of the First Sons.
Cole states that he will keep his power,but will be Kessler. With Zeke's Aid,Cole defeats Kessler,who claims Cole as a Hero before he being erased from existence. While Empire City is restored,Cole looked around the horizon. He begun having a bad feeling of what Kessler said about the Beast.

Moya is informed by the Agent that they found a file of a research facility. Meanwhile,the Scientists looks at the capsule. Inside of it was a clone version of Cole. He open his eyes with red electricity in them.
