crossrain01: Hai! Thank you for the advice, yea I took quite the break there didn't I. Guardians being hired by U.A... Huh, I never considered that. Thank you for the idea though! I do have some OC guardians planned to join the squad though and I can't wait to introduce them! They won't have all that much screen time... book space? Whatever, but they are going to play a big part in – and - - . And yes, I had that entire Aizawa reveal planned since before I even started writing stuff down.
Knightwolf1875: YES! I will be looking forward to Morimitsu getting his supers and how they will differ from the norm... Leave any suggestions you've got in the comments because I'm still trying to decide what to give him first.
And now! This chapter may not be as action packed as the last few, but I believe it is important to give our group some time to relax and unwind. So without further adieu, Enjoy!
Guardian's Academia
Chapter Eight: Celebration and Relaxation
"So... Morimitsu is possibly our best chance to survive?" Chikara asked looking at the boy. "No" Aizawa replied firmly. "You all are"
Aizawa closed his eyes and let that sink in before he moved for the door "Don't think about it too much, but if you do then come to me to talk it over" with that he opened the door and left, closing it quietly behind him. He walked for a few paces before stopping and letting out a sigh, his eyes rolled upward to the ceiling "You happy now? You know some of my secrets, Don't pester me for more information because I don't have time" Aizawa said in a very annoyed tone, then his eyes flas...
Izuku was still staring at his hands when the door closed, Chikara was looking past him to the two on the other side of the room. Morimitsu was still asleep and Kanohi was leaned against the wall next to his bed and brushing his long hair back into order, Solasi was hovered next to her and talked to her quietly as to not wake the guardian. The purple haired girl thought over what had happened and she found herself thinking about Izuku's reaction to Uraraka, a smirk formed on her face as she found herself some entertainment. "So Midoriya, why'd you turn all red when Uraraka caught you this morning?" she asked innocently, the reaction was better than she hoped for. Izuku jumped and went as red as a tomato before shrieking and curling up clutching his still injured arm. Chikara burst out laughing at his antics, after just a few seconds she received a sharp smack on the head with a cane. "Don't go making him hurt himself anymore than he already has!" Recovery Girl scolded as she checked up on the green bean "It's bad enough that he shattered three limbs I don't need anything else happening!" Kanohi looked over "He did What?" she exclaimed, the sudden sound finally waking the feline from his sleep. "You heard me" she said before giving the boy another kiss on his injured arm. "Now get out of here, you've still got the rest of the day ahead of you" the four of them thanked the medic for taking care of them and excused themselves.
As they walked out the gates of U.A. the four of them heard the very loud and very angry voice of one Bakugo Katsuki. "Oi Deku! How did you do? Manage to show the world how useless you are?" he laughed. Izuku spun and smiled at him "If shattering the Zero-pointer counts as useless, yep!" and with that he spun around and walked off, Morimitsu Chikara and Kanohi stared between him and a stunned Bakugo before they all burst out laughing and chased after their friend.
The four teens walked towards the Midoriya household, Izuku's mother or Auntie Inko as the rest of the group had started calling her, had agreed to have them all stay over in the living room. "Damn Izuku, I didn't expect that from You of all people. Since when did you get so sassy?" Chikara laughed as she skipped around the boy in question to walk backwards in front of him. Izuku was sweating bullets as he walked, half expecting Kacchan to appear behind him and blast him into the pavement "I-I don't know, I've never said anything like that to anyone" Izuku felt a tap on his shoulder and looked to see Morimitsu grinning ear to ear as a tear rolled down his cheek "That was the most amazing thing I've seen since my resurrection" The green bean laughed and gave him a thumbs up in reply. Kanohi pulled a soda out of the bag she was carrying and threw it at Midoriya "Drink up champ, you've survived the entrance exam and silenced the Rabid Pomeranian all in one day. You've earned it" Chikara and Morimitsu both lost it and fell over in fits of laughter while the other two kept walking "Don't worry, they'll catch up" the Maori girl said as she opened her own can.
Once the group arrived at the Midoriya household they all greeted Inko and set themselves up in the lounge with snacks and a gaming console connected to the TV. Morimitsu and Izuku immediately started playing a fighting game against one another while the girls told their host all about how their exams went, Inko listened carefully and congratulated them on their success.
"Dinners ready everyone!" Inko called from the kitchen, it had already been a couple of hours since they had gotten home and Izuku's mother had insisted on making dinner while they all rested. "Izuku honey, come help me serve up" Izuku got up from where he was discussing training schedules with Kanohi. "Coming Mum!" the boy responded "Sorry, I'll be right back" he said to the Maori girl "Go on, I'm getting hungry" she replied. Izuku dashed into the kitchen and came back a few seconds later with a couple of steaming bowls, placing them on the table in the middle of the room he stood back up and headed back to get two more bowls of delicious smelling food. When he returned he saw the three other teens looking at the food on the table, Morimitsu was almost drooling as he looked at the dish before him. Inko exited the kitchen behind Izuku and sat down on the couch beside Kanohi with her own food "Well, what are you waiting for?" she said grinning at the kid's reactions to her cooking "This is Izuku's favourite, my secret recipe Katsudon. Dig in!" "Thank you for the meal!" all four of the teens said at the same time before they dug into the best meal they had ever had.
After the meal Inko got Izuku to help her with the dishes before she retired for the night. Not long after the boys headed into Izuku's room to sleep while the girls set up sleeping bags in the lounge. Morimitsu got to sleep pretty quickly on the floor but Izuku was having trouble sleeping, he was still rolling around everything that Mr Aizawa had told them earlier. But mostly he was itching to try what the hero had told him, lowering the amount of power he used while fighting was something he hadn't even thought of. He really wanted to head to the beach to try it out, so after trying and failing to sleep for an hour and a half Izuku decided to sneak out. He got up and looked at Morimitsu sleeping peacefully near the wall. The green bean quietly got out of bed and put on some warmer clothing, just as he got to the door he heard a very loud 'Ding' and jumped. Covering his mouth so he didn't yell in fright the boy looked over and saw Mori's phone on the ground, screen lit up with a new notification from someone named 'Firecracker' asking how the exam went. Izuku took a deep breath and calmed himself as the phone turned off again, he slowly opened the door and snuck out into the lounge and closed the door behind him.
"Going somewhere?" Chikara asked quietly, Izuku jumped again and spun to look at her. She was also fully dressed and was putting her shoes on already "Keep quiet, we can talk outside" she whispered, the greenette nodded and crept toward the door. The two of them left quietly, Izuku grabbed the spare key and locked the door behind them. "So, where you going?" Chikara asked as she walked down the stairs ahead of the boy "I was going to head to the beach where we trained, I want to test something" he said. The purple haired girl looked at him over her shoulder "Damn good thing I was awake then, we don't need you running off and getting injured at night. Already got one person doing that far too often" Izuku nodded "I don't plan on doing anything stupid, just a little test. Anyway, where are you going?" the girl looked ahead "Needed to go for a walk to clear my head a bit, the beach seems like a good spot to go. And better not to be alone at night. Hope you don't mind me tagging along!" she said with a grin as she spun to walk backwards for a few seconds. "Not at all, let's go" Izuku said as he took off jogging in the direction of the beach.
Once the pair of them reached the beach Chikara took a seat and watched as Izuku walked out onto the sands. He closed his eyes and steadied his breathing, taking slow rhythmic breaths he called on his quirk. He felt the warmth spread up his arm and remembered Mr Aizawa's words, comparing his power to a car throttle the boy slowly lowered the pressure he was applying to the pedal. The energy coursing through him slowed and lessened until it was just a small amount in his right arm, green lightning danced along his skin and he smiled as he realised that he could control it. Izuku heard clapping and looked to the side to see Chikara grinning like a maniac as she watched him. "So, can you spread the lightning to your whole body or is it just one hand? How does your quirk work exactly?" Izuku's eyes widened, then he closed them again and he focused on spreading the energy around his whole body while keeping the output extremely low. He remembered All Might telling him that he would only be able to handle about five percent of his quirk. He lowered the output and opened his eyes, the lightning was now dancing across his entire body. He decided to try moving and started walking, once he was happy he could keep it going he broke into a run. He reached the end of the beach much faster than he thought he would and turned around to run back. The speed and power in his stride was amazing, he jumped multiple meters in the air without much effort and grinned madly. That is until he failed to land correctly and got a mouthful of sand for his troubles. Chikara laughed like a maniac as she jogged over to help him off the ground, he spat the sand out of his mouth as the purple haired girl cackled. The two moved over to a water fountain and Izuku cleaned out his mouth "Well, that tasted terrible" the boy said "That's what you get for trying to show off" Chikara laughed "At least it worked... Full Cowling" Izuku said thoughtfully "Really, Full Cowling? That's what you are calling it?" Chikara asked "Yep" the boy replied firmly "Aight, whatever you say"
"What are you kids doing out this late?" a loud and familiar voice called from down the road. Both kids jumped and spun towards the voice "Mr Yagi!" both of them called as they spotted the man walking toward them. "Yea yea, I am here. But what are you doing? You should be at home asleep" both teens looked at each other nervously "Uhh, I needed a walk to think about some stuff" Chikara said "And I wanted to try something... with my quirk" Izuku finished sheepishly. Mr Yagi immediately turned to him "Are you kidding me kid? You know how powerful your quirk is, you can't just use it without supervision. And using your quirk is illegal and you know that!" the tall man chopped him on the head with his hand. "Good thing I stopped you before you did though, this place would be destroyed if you had" he said as he looked around the beach. "I uhh, actually..." Izuku started nervously, the blonde man looked back to him "I finished before you got here?" the greenette finished. Mr Yagi stared at him for a few seconds in silence "You, used your quirk" Izuku nodded "And nothing broke?" he nodded again "Show me" Izuku looked shocked for a few seconds before he ignited his full cowling again. Mr Yagi grinned widely at him. "You did it kiddo, and damn you did it quick" Izuku smiled widely at the praise. "Now go home before someone calls you in for illegal quirk use!" he released Full Cowling "Yes Mr Yagi!" both kids said before running off together back towards home. All Might stared after them 'That kid is smarter than I thought. He is a fine successor. You would've liked him, Nana" he thought as the kids disappeared into the night.
Once the two got back to the house Izuku unlocked the door and they snuck back in and got to bed, they were both too tired from the run to stay awake for long.
In the morning Morimitsu was up first and since he had nothing else to do he started the day by scrolling through his phone looking at news, messages and the Vex movements that Solasi constantly pinged to a hidden app on his phone. The feline noticed a message from Firecracker and opened it immediately ~Hey kiddo, how did the exam go? You pass with flying colours like I predicted?~ Mori smiled and started typing back ~No idea, but I did well! How was the patrol last night? Sorry I couldn't join ya~ he tapped the send button and went to scrolling through updates from his ghost 'There's some interesting chatter over the Vex communication network. They are gearing up for something. I can't quite catch all the info' Solasi said 'Oh, good morning by the way' Mori smiled 'Mornin Sol, What info do you have?' his ghost appeared before him "Well, simply put. There are Vex forces gathering around one of the smaller warp gates. They have a Unique Wyvern preparing to move from there to the main gate" the ghost said quietly "Here, look at this" she stated before projecting a holographic map onto the floor. A path illuminated on the map "This is the planned route they are taking from what I can tell. And security is tight this time, the number of smaller Vex units deployed is in the hundreds" Morimitsu stared at the map before pointing to a building far off the path. 'I'll post up here when they make their move, they won't go for it in broad daylight. They aren't that stupid. We can take the VIP down before it gets anywhere near the endpoint' the ghost bobbed up and down "That's a good plan, but that is a two kilometre shot. What if you miss?" the feline boy thought for a few seconds.
"What if he misses what?" Izuku asked blearily as he rubbed his eyes, the map was gone in an instant. "The short window we have to meet up with a friend of ours" Solasi answered 'Technically not a lie I guess, Firecracker will be there' the guardian thought as he nodded. "Cool, can I tag along and meet them?" both guardian and ghost froze, they knew that if they said yes it would put Izuku in possible danger. But by saying no he would realise what they were doing and follow them to stop the pair from getting into trouble. "Our friend is a bit shy when it comes to meeting new people, I'll ping him and see if he would be okay with it" the ghost said before disappearing once more. "Okay" Izuku yawned while stretching his arms up in the air "I'm gonna go get some food and see what the girls want to do today" he said as he got out of bed. Mori also got up and started getting ready for the day ahead. Once the boys were done they emerged into the living room to find the two girls helping Inko to make some food, the smell coming from the kitchen was divine and the two boys couldn't wait for the meal to be served.
Once they were all full and had thanked Inko for the meal the four teens decided to head into town to enjoy their day off. Mori felt a buzz in his pocket and fished his phone out to see who was messaging him, he fell a little behind as he replied and a worried look crossed his face for a second. Izuku noticed it while looking back at him, he turned to the others with a serious look "We need to keep and eye on Mori, I think he's going back into the red zone tonight" the two girls looked at him questioningly "What makes you think that?" Chikara asked "He said he was going to meet a friend of his later, but only had a small window of time to see them. And when I asked if I could tag along both him and Solasi froze before telling me they would ask if their friend would be okay with it" Kanohi nodded in agreement "I'll tail him, I live alone so nobody will know I'm even gone" she said "I'll make sure to keep him out of trouble, but even if it finds him. I'll get him out in one piece" Izuku and Chikara looked satisfied with that answer and dropped the subject just as the feline in question came running up to meet them. "Sorry about that, and sorry my friend isn't all that keen on meeting more people. He's not really a people-person"Izuku nodded and smiled "That's okay, tell him I said hi, okay?" "Will do" Kanohi locked eyes with the greenette and nodded.
The group spent the entire day bouncing between arcades, shopping and food carts around Musutafu, they even ran into a few heroes who were out paroling which sent Izuku into a note taking spiral. They all parted ways once it started to get dark, Morimitsu walked towards home but once out of sight he took off towards the red zone once more.
Kanohi tracked Mori as best she could, while he was walking through streets it was fairly easy. But once he got out of town he moved faster, quieter, he was like a wraith moving from shadow to shadow. At some points the silver haired girl thought she had lost him, then would spot a faint burst of light accompanied by a form sailing through the air. She would be moving to catch up as quick as her legs would take her. She continued to tail her friend for nearly three quarters of an hour, as they went the number of the robot like Vex they encountered and quietly avoided was getting higher and higher. They were in groups now, instead of a single unit there would be patrols of twelve or more with a larger unit quite often taking the lead. Kanohi couldn't understand why the feline boy came out here so often, the heroes should be the ones taking care of work like this. But they seemed content with just keeping the threat contained instead of taking care of it, so here Morimitsu was, dealing with it for them.
Kanohi picked her way through the empty husk of an old building, the walls were cracked and crumbling in places and the roof had fully collapsed in leaving treacherous piles of rubble on the floor. She crept around a pile of loose material that was sure to make noise if she touched it, just past the pile and across the room was a hole in the back wall. That was where she had seen Mori disappear into, the silver haired girl made her way over and peeked inside. On the other side was a small alleyway between this building and a three story building that was miraculously still standing. Kanohi stepped into the space and stood up, looking left and right she tried to listen for or spot her friend. Nothing, no sign of him. She turned away from the main road the alley exited onto and started walking into the shadow of the two structures, behind her she heard a crunch. She turned and saw a Vex machine had stepped on a piece of wood and snapped it underfoot, the machine was too focused on what made the sound and hadn't noticed her yet. She tried to move quietly away, but the machine instantly snapped its head and weapon in her direction. The two locked eyes, the machine's weapon glowed orange and Kanohi's eyes went wide.
Crack! The muzzle blast echoed through the alleyway, Kanohi watched with wide eyes as the Vex crumpled to the ground as its core shattered. The white fluid leaked onto the ground like blood, she spun around and saw her friend's glowing eyes deeper in the alleyway. He walked toward her as he holstered his hand cannon. "You shouldn't have followed me" he signed to her before grabbing her hand and leading her down into the darkness and into the tall building. "What do you mean by that? You promised not to fight these things alone again" he let her go and turned to face her. "I'm not, I don't even plan on fighting them this time. This is a simple assassination op, one shot, one target down. Get out un-noticed" she fixed him with a glare "You know what I mean, you shouldn't come here at all without backup" "Again, I didn't" Mori pushed the rooftop door open and led her out. "Meet my hunting partner, code name Firecracker"
'Firecracker' was leaned against a wall with binoculars in hand staring into the distance. The tall man was dressed in all black combat boots, cargo pants and a long flowing trench coat that split at the bottom into twin tails that nearly reached his boots. He had short messy black hair and his skin was stapled on in many places, he turned towards her and she could see his striking bright blue eyes. He looked her over and then looked to the feline boy. "You didn't tell me you were bringing more firepower, thought this was gonna be quiet" he said in a smooth drawl. His entire attitude screamed 'Couldn't care less' and Kanohi was shocked for a few seconds before she introduced herself. "Hello there, my name I..." "Code names, we don't use real names on ops" the tall man interrupted her. "I'm known as Firecracker, he's Cat. They were nicknames but ended up sticking" he shrugged as he finished. Morimitsu flicked her a thumbs up as he set up his sniper rifle, the silver haired girl thought for a second before Solasi appeared and spoke up. "We could give you a temporary code name to do with your quirk?" 'Firecracker' spoke up again "Since you seem a bit lost, I'm calling you Wave" he turned back to watching the distance. "Why Wave?" Kanohi asked "Your hair, it's wavy and the blue and silver reminds me of waves breaking on the beach" Kanohi shrugged "Guess that'll do for now"
Morimitsu 'Cat' had finished setting up his rifle and was lying down in firing position facing the same direction as 'Firecracker' was looking. 'Wave' sat down leaning against the same wall as the taller man, she watched him carefully and wondered how someone like him had met Morimitsu.
The group sat there for almost two hours, waiting, watching and chatting quietly between themselves. 'Firecracker' took a while to warm up to her presence but eventually gave in to her interrogating and told her how Morimitsu had saved him from the Vex one time. And then decided they were going to be friends, that led to them meeting up many times and eventually the guy had told the feline about his life. At the time he only wanted to get back at someone who had wronged him in the past, but after watching the young guardian for a few months he was inspired to join in. He decided to fight against his adversary by doing his job even better than he could instead of trying to get revenge. He still hated the man though. Eventually 'Cat' saw their target appear and clicked his fingers to get the attention of the other two. Then Solasi materialised an earpiece for all three of them, 'Just in case something goes awry' the ghost had said.
Morimitsu sighted in on the target and tracked them slowly, waiting for them to get in range. 'Firecracker' was watching the target with the binoculars and would tell him when to fire. "Ready" he said quietly, the guardian clicked the safety off. "Three, Two, One... Fire"
Author's notes
Thanks for reading!
Ahh yes, say hello to our boy's favorite hunting partner! A cannon character whom I bet some of you will recognise immediately!
I know I left this on one HELL of a cliffhanger (Sorry, not sorry) but the cliffhanger gives me more motivation to get right into the next chapter. So this next one shouldn't take too long. See you all next time!
