O.M.G. I hate the feeling of really wanting to write, but not having the energy to actually put pen to paper... Metaphorically of course.

ANYWAYS. Hai! I'm back once again!

Time for me to get a few chapters done as fast as possible without stressing myself out about it...

So here we are, the team - - - and a - - before...

It's been so long that I forgot about the spoiler blocker.

Huh. Enjoy I guess, this took way too long to finish.

Guardian's Academia

Chapter Twelve: Skill and Experience

Shota grinned, he needed no explanation. He had gifted Elsie a kitten to keep her company on her journeys and Tempest had no doubt met the little fur ball while working with her. Morimitsu appeared on the holo-communicator beside Elsie and waved at Shota "Hey kiddo, how ya holding up?" the feline boy raised a hand and tilted it side to side. "Mori!" 'Oh, right. I almost forgot about those two' Shota thought to himself, then he turned the device towards the two fast approaching teenagers. "Say hi kiddos"

Izuku and Chikara skidded to a stop and yelled as they both saw the feline on the projector "Mori!" "Hai!" they said simultaneously while completely ignoring the Exo who was smirking at their antics. "Are you okay?" Izuku asked "Where's Kanohi?" Chikara demanded while shoving Midoriya's face aside. Morimitsu threw his hands up in surrender before pointing to the side "She's fine, so is Dabi. The kiddo took good care of his team till they were safely to the last city" Elsie spoke calmly "Also, you were in the middle of training" she plopped her hand onto the feline's head and turned him back toward the warlock who was waiting patiently for his return. Mori gave a small wave as he smiled awkwardly, then went back to his training. "Shota" Elsie said quietly as she walked out of the training hall "Yes?" the man replied turning the transmitter back toward himself and walking away from the two teens who were also getting back to work.

"We need to talk, Privately" Shota nodded as his eyes flashed red.

Back in the training hall...

The warlock Morimitsu was learning from had spent the last hour and a half going over how to best gather and release light so as to not waste energy while in combat. The older man had shown him how he himself did so, but it wasn't really working for the feline guardian. It seemed his connection to the light was completely different to the other guardians, that would make learning anything from them a headache. Mori glanced over toward where Dabi was, he had a warlock who specialised in Solar light trying to make heads or tails of how he was producing such monstrous amounts of Solar energy without using the light like a guardian would. The burned man was obviously having fun watching the poor woman lose her mind over his apparent lack of limitations, the shit eating grin on his face was a dead giveaway. Kanohi was basically having a fist fight with a Titan who had been asked to come along, the guardian wasn't wearing his armour and without use of light to enhance his blows he definitely wouldn't be holding out so well against the smaller girl. After taking only a few blows from the massive man she was slinging around so much liquid energy that the Titan couldn't even get near her, and all the attacks she was throwing were strong enough to stagger the man and sometimes send him skidding backwards a few meters. By the way she was laughing it sounded like she was having the time of her life.

Mori felt a pang of jealousy, both his companions were having fun and had guardians fawning over them left right and centre. Meanwhile he was stuck with an old man who wasn't teaching him anything helpful and didn't want to do anything other than teach him using the light 101, something he had mastered day one after he awoke. Was he bored? Yes. Unfortunately Solasi had left to go talk to the ghost that was now following Dabi everywhere he went and hadn't yet returned, with no way to get his point across the feline was left with nothing to do except try his best to appease the old Warlock. Mori clicked his fingers and formed some void light that he started to play with as he listened to the old man who frowned but continued anyway.

It was only a few minutes later that the session was interrupted by a large Titan walking into the room, he was almost 7 foot tall and carried a great-sword on his back with a pair of smaller long-swords on his left hip. The man stopped when he saw the scene before him, then he let out a deep laugh. "Never thought I'd see the day a Warlock joined me in the training hall, now I see nearly ten of you! So what brings you bookworms out of the library?" the man said, his deep voice bellowing around the hall. "Arthur!" Tempest yelled as she spun around to face the man. "Tempest!" he yelled back "Has been too long little storm caller. Haven't seen you since we took down the Taken King!" he laughed before his face fell "That was the day our fireteam shattered" he said quietly "Let's... not talk about that right now okay? Please?" Tempest said quietly as she gave the Titan a hug. "Alright little one, I respect your wish" he let go of the Warlock and placed his hand on her head.

"So! Who's the fresh guardian?" Arthur said while staring straight at the feline "That's Morimitsu, and that is Kanohi..." she pointed at the girl locked in a fistfight with a Titan, then pointed to the slender man who was currently wreathed in blue flames "...and Dabi. They are all new here, arrived yesterday" Arthur nodded before giving Tempest a pat on the head and walking over to Morimitsu "Do you know how to use a blade?" he asked as he approached, Morimitsu nodded and drew a knife from his belt. "Good! Duel me, I want to evaluate your skill myself!" Morimitsu jumped up and stretched his back before giving the Titan a grin "Hold it right there, Arthur I am currently training him to use his light" the old warlock protested "And is he learning anything useful?" Arthur interrupted him "Well... I haven't seen progress yet" Arthur looked at the feline "Then a change of pace is necessary, not everyone learns by sitting down and meditating! Guardian, Enguard!" the Titan called as he drew a long-sword from his belt and pointed it at his opponent.

Morimitsu took a combat stance and drew his primary knife from his shoulder, holding one knife in each hand he signalled ready with a quick nod. The Titan charged forward and swung his blade wide at the feline's left shoulder, the young guardian crossed his knives and blocked the blow. But in doing so he took the full weight behind the attack, Mori was thrown into the air and across the room. He very quickly righted himself and landed skidding backwards on his feet. "Huh, so you managed to land that? Very impressive" Arthur laughed before charging the feline once more, Morimitsu waited for his opponent to come to him again, his tail swishing back and forth as he prepared to evade the next strike. This time the attack was a reverse swing aimed for his right hip, the feline flipped over the blade and landed a slash on the hand holding the longer blade before quickly making distance between them. Arthur looked at the fresh scratch on his gauntlet and then to the guardian charging back at him, he smiled and readied himself to defend. The Titan blocked a swipe from his right and then his left, followed quickly by redirecting the feline's attempt to stab his chest plate. A few more quick attacks were deftly blocked before Arthur took another swing at the young guardian, aiming to take his head from his shoulders. Predictably the boy dodged it.

Morimitsu skidded to a halt and raised both blades in front of himself in reverse grips, the Titan had just tried to kill him and he had no idea why. 'Isn't this just training? I thought it would be to first contact, but he just attacked like he meant to kill me' he thought. "Looks like you realised what I just did" Arthur called to him while switching stance and sheathing his sword. "You need to take this seriously, we are guardians! There is no point in training to just surrender your opponent, if you fought like this against a Fallen Captain. You would die your final death" Morimitsu froze and stared at the man, he knew he was speaking the truth. But even so he couldn't bring himself to attack with intent to kill him, he just couldn't. "Well then, if that is how you are going to fight... Young lady, would you mind coming over here for me?" Arthur bellowed while beckoning Kanohi to come to him. "Uhh, sure!" the silver haired girl replied, she dropped her towel and walked over to the Titan. "What do you need?" she said as she approached him, suddenly the large man grabbed her and drew his sword again. He spun her around and held her around her waist while placing the flat of the sword across her chest. "Guardian, your ally is now in mortal danger. Will you still hesitate to kill your enemy?" Arthur yelled at the feline boy.

Morimitsu's eyes were locked with Kanohi's, he could see she was frightened by her predicament. Immediately he dashed forward, his eyes glowing with void light as he coated his blades with light to enhance his strikes. His first slash was blocked easily with the flat of the sword but the Titan clearly didn't expect him to leap into the air and slash for his face. Arthur barely reacted in time leaning backward and dropping the girl as he brought his weapon to bear against a now very dangerous foe. Even avoiding most of the blade he still received a nice cut below his eye.

Mori hit the ground and bolted behind the larger man, however the Titan spun and slashed at his right shoulder. The feline slid under the blade easily and dove upwards landing a twin slash across Arthur's torso before throwing a knife into his right armpit and backing off again. The Titan dropped his sword as his arm went limp, he grinned madly and grabbed his great-sword off his back with his left hand. "Now you understand, you must disarm or eliminate the threat as quickly as possible!"

The pair traded multiple blows back and forth, Morimitsu dodging and attacking at speed while Arthur blocked and swung from a standstill unwilling to give ground. Mori noticed that the Titan always blocked with one side of his sword and formulated a quick strategy to bring the man to his knees. He snapped the fingers on his left and and rushed forward again in a far more furious and continuous attack, one slash after another he kept his attack going. He was getting tired very quickly, but his plan was working so far. Arthur had continued to block with the same flat side of his massive sword and so hadn't noticed the five grenades attached to it, if he was as sturdy as he seemed then the blast likely wouldn't do him much damage. But it would disarm him.

The feline backed off for a few seconds to catch his breath and ready himself. He needed to do this perfectly, one spare knife was all he had to throw, either it hit a grenade or he lost. Arthur drove the sword into the ground and knelt down behind it, his eyes never left Morimitsu as he waited for the young guardian's next move. Once he was ready Mori bolted at the man again, he threw his last throwing knife ahead of him while he ran. Arthur grabbed his sword and blocked the knife with it, the blade hit home and detonated a grenade that set the rest off. The Titan disappeared in a blast of void light while his sword flew across the room and embedded into the wall a few meters away. 'Perfect! Couldn't have gone better if I wanted it to!' Mori thought as he leapt into the smoke and went for the recovering Titan. Arthur swung his arm at the feline, he was holding a sword... Morimitsu noticed at the last possible moment and managed to bring his knife into the blade's path. His knife was launched from his grip and the Titan leapt at him as he fell on his back, two swords stabbed into the dirt on either side of his neck with the blades just barely touching him. 'What. What was that?' the feline thought, a look of shock on his face.

"You fought well, however you cannot wait until someone's life is on the line to battle at your best! That is how people lose their lives" Arthur said firmly. Then he withdrew his swords and put them into their scabbards before picking the guardian up off the floor and giving him a pat on the shoulder "Fight like that before people are in danger and there will never be an opponent standing to harm your friends. That is how a Guardian keeps people safe" he said with a sympathetic smile. "Wait a second! That was a dirty trick and you know it! And how the hell did you counter Mori's plan?" Kanohi yelled as she walked over and punched the Titan in the gut. Arthur looked down at her and didn't flinch when she hit him "Simple, I have been using that sword for many many years. How could I not notice the sudden shift in weight and balance? I'll admit I didn't expect explosives, a nice touch, but I knew you were up to something" he replied while looking to the feline boy "You also gave me enough time to remove your knife from my shoulder and have my ghost heal the damage caused" he pointed out as he walked over to his blade and pulled it from the wall. He ran his hand over the scorched blade before placing it on his back again. "I look forward to seeing what you can do. Morimitsu" he said before walking out of the training hall leaving everyone in silence as they thought over the match they had just witnessed.

It was a few hours before Morimitsu, Kanohi and Dabi sat down to have dinner together, by that point the two ghosts had rejoined them. They sat in the tower cafeteria and spoke quietly while they ate, the ghost following Dabi had introduced himself as Fizz and told them that he would be staying with the burned man to bring him back as a guardian upon his death. The group had welcomed him warmly and were slowly getting to know more about the little ghost as he opened up to them little by little. Mori was still contemplating what he had been taught by that Titan, Arthur. Tempest seemed to know him quite well, maybe from a previous fireteam?

The feline was dragged from his thoughts as a tray was placed on the table across from his "Sorry about Arthur, he can be a bit... Forward. With his teaching methods" Tempest said as she sat down "He just hates to see people not fighting at their best, he's... We. Lost a few good friends who made that same mistake" she looked downward sadly as she spoke. "But that's my past, nothing you need to worry about. How are you guys liking the tower?" she perked back up and took a bite of her food as she waited for a reply. "It's very organised, and people tend to treat you guardians with great respect. I have seen some hunters giving us looks between questioning and sometimes disgust" Dabi replied while stabbing his fork into some meat. "They seem to judge us useless just because we are new around here. And it's starting to tick me off" he looked up at the warlock. "With that said, when do we get to go fight some Vex and prove our worth around here?" Tempest stared straight at him while finishing her mouthful of food. "Actually, that was another reason I joined you, Zavala has given you clearance for a strike at the recommendation of both Arthur and Elsie. You guys will be paired up with myself, Arthur and a hunter of Cayde's choosing. The gunsmith, Banshee-44, has been told to prepare a selection of firearms for you two to choose from and Eva has armour for you both as well. Sorry Mori but Zavala noted that you already have quality gear so didn't order anything for you" the three nodded and grinned at each other, they were already getting a chance to prove themselves and boy were they looking forward to some action.

Once they had all finished their dinner the four retired for the night to rest. Tempest left for her own room while the other three had a joint flat with three small bedrooms put together for them, it was empty other than a single couch, the beds and some cooking equipment in the kitchen. They would have to fill the place with trophies from their battles once they started working. Each of them went to bed for the night anxious for the next day.

Morimitsu awoke to Solasi hovering over him "Guardian, both Kanohi and Dabi are already awake and getting breakfast ready. You should suit up and join them" she said. Mori sighed and crawled out of bed. He hated mornings, but he had work to do. After a quick breakfast the feline said farewell to his two companions, Tempest had arrived to guide them to the armour and weapon smiths to acquire their gear. Meanwhile he was going to do his morning exercise routine, he might have been off world and away from Shota but that didn't mean he was gonna slack off for a day. After nearly an hour of running and a variety of workout exercises Solasi received a summons from the Vanguard office and informed her guardian.

Half an hour later Morimitsu arrived at the command centre and walked down the stairs to find a number of fireteams receiving assignments from the vanguard members. Some were already on their way out the door and he met eyes with a hunted who gave him a once over before walking off.

"Mori! Over here!" he heard Kanohi call him from his left, he looked over and saw her, Dabi, Tempest and Arthur leaning against a set of railing. He waved as he walked over to them "Our last member is running a little late, he got back from a late night scouting mission and was given time to sleep in before this op" Tempest informed him as he leaned against the railing beside her. He flicked her a thumb up and turned to observe the other guardians being given assignments. There were people of all heights, some human, other exo and some awoken. They all were very well equipped and looked confident, he spotted all kinds of weapons as well. He kept observing until the last fireteam walked out and Cayde turned to address them while Ikora and Zavala talked. "So... it turns out he's a bit later than I thought he'd be. But I swear that he should be here very soon!" just as the Exo man finished speaking a hunter dashed through the door and leapt to the bottom of the stairs without even touching them. He slid to a halt and ended up almost nose to nose with the hunter vanguard.

"Nice entrance Kale" Cayde said as he stepped back and looked the hunter up and down. "How's the sniper treating ya? Still in working order I hope?" the hunter nodded quickly "Yes sir, I'm loving it. It is very useful for whittling down numbers from range before actually going in" Cayde put a hand on his chin and nodded slowly. "That's what I like to hear! Alright, come on over team. This is your new temporary member! Why don't you introduce yourself"
