I DO NOT OWN SILENCE OR GAME OF THRONES
The same day
The entire group of thralls eventually gathered around the priests as they prepared for the first part of their mission. Prompted by Daraaquo, although they could see he still was skeptical he at least gave them an opportunity. all the Fathers had been preparing to spread the word of Christ for many years since saying yes to the calling. Still, now that the opportunity to proselytize was laid before them, they would be lying if they said that they weren't a bit nervous about missionizing to these thralls. After taking a deep breath and grabbing his Vulgate, Garupe decided to go first whispering a prayer to Saint Francisco Javier, the great missionary of the Indies to lend him the words to win the souls for the Lord.
"We have been sent by the Lord, ruler of Heaven and Earth to tell you of his son: Jesus Christ," Francisco spoke as the thralls were perplexed and intrigued who was this God the strange men spoke.
"Your God has a son?" Daaraquo inquired quizzically, he had heard tons of tales about gods and demigods but his first encounter with the priests only made him more intrigued.
"We are all God's children, but Jesus is the only begotten son of God, begotten not made." The dark-haired priest replied.
"The Lord visited a young woman named Mary, a virgin, and the Holy Spirit filled her and she gave birth to a son: Jesus," Sebastian explained further, going over how to convince the thralls as he discovered how they were named, slaves in all but name.
"A virgin giving birth, that's impossible!" One of the thralls shouted as others agreed, that was one completely unreal statement, a god coming down and having relations with a woman, other gods had done it but she did not remain a virgin.
"Nothing is impossible with God," The dark-haired English priest pointed out as he joined his companions before the thralls. "The Virgin Mary gave birth to the son of God to save us all, for he is the Lord of the Universe and nothing is impossible for him," finished with a confident tone and without a doubt for he was completely sure about the faith even at the face of the persecution of the true faith in his homeland.
"Sin is the most dangerous enemy to the human race. Not tyrants, nor natural disasters, or illness. For while all of those things kill the body; which is a temporary thing, sin kills the soul; which is eternal," Garupe continued as the thralls kept listening with rapt attention. "That is why our God sent Jesus to Earth, Jesus is the Christ, our messiah. He was sent to save mankind from sin, death, and the devil," gaining confidence as the thralls were absorbed in their sermon.
"Devil, who is this devil?" Another thrall inquired with curiosity, was that the name of the contrary god like the Storm god was to the Drowned god of the Ironborn?
"The devil, his name is Satan, was once one of the most powerful Angels who served the Lord, the Angels are the heavenly servants of the Almighty, but his greed and his lust for power led him to rebel against God and to be cast down from the kingdom of Heaven. Satan took revenge by convincing Adam and Eve: the first man and woman on Earth to sin against God, thus bringing death and evil to the world" Rodriques answered as he spoke with a solemn look as he discussed the supreme evil being dedicated to the corruption and destruction of man, this left a void in the stomach of the thralls trying to comprehend what they were told.
"The wages of sin is death, but that is why God sent his only begotten son to live as a man among men. Jesus was crucified on the cross to endure the penalty of sin under Pontius Pilate the the Roman governor so that we would not have to, for to us to be redeemed he became one of us" Father Garupe continued solemnly
"Wait, so Jesus is dead?" Nakillos asked as he failed to see the merit in worshipping a corpse; son of God or not, although they knew that line of thinking and they were going to refute it.
"No brothers, After three days, Jesus rose from the dead. He was raised from the grave to show Christ's ultimate victory over death, " Father Rodrigues explained with joy as he looked over the thralls. "Our Lord Jesus allowed himself to be slain upon the cross to take our punishment so that he may be forgiven of all our sins and achieve Eternal life in Heaven. Jesus offers salvation from sin, from death, and from the devil. He wants you all to know that he loves you, he wants so desperately to save you," he finished as the thralls started to ponder about the message of the priests.
"But there is a catch, Christ can not force this gift upon you. You must accept for yourselves and attain glory in Heaven through faith," Garupe insisted as the thralls spoke more openly amongst themselves. The priest could not hear what was being said, but could only hope that their mission was not destined to end in failure after a little while, Daaraqueo spoke.
"What about thralls, will this Jesus allow thralls and slaves to have eternal life?" Daaraquo asked anxiously, earning a smile from the priests, the Lord wanted to save all of them.
"Yes, The Lord Jesus came to save all: the master and the slaves. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world so that all who believe in him may have eternal life. You can find freedom in his love," Father Steadham insisted as Father Garupe opened up his Bible. All of the thralls eyes and ears perked up when the padre mentioned the magical word freedom, something they hadn't in a long time.
"We are told in the epistle to the Galatians, in the fifth chapter, verse one: It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Garupe read aloud as he could see the hearts of those thralls filling with hope. In their minds, anyone who was offering them freedom from involuntary servitude at the hands of the Ironborn was worth giving a try.
"I want to believe in Jesus and to be saved." Daaraquo insisted as he stood up and stood before the priests, he had made up his mind, and if this Christ was as half as good as the priest said then he was better than all the gods he had heard of.
"Then you must be baptized," Francisco said as he took Daaraquo and led him into the tide, they may not have a baptismal font so the sea would be there for the triple immersion, and with Daaraquo he went to the sea, no matter how wet he got, the sacrament of baptism began
."Daaraquo Dirros, do you renounce Satan? And all his works? And all his empty promises?" Garupe asked, starting the sacrament
"Yes." The thrall answered everyone was seeing the baptism
"Do you believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth?" Francisco inquired
"Yes." Daaraquo declared before all present with a thunderous voice and filled with resolve.
"Do you believe in Jesus Christ his only Son, Our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried, descended into hell, rose again on the third day from the dead, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father almighty?" asked Father Garupe reciting the creed.
"Yes."
"Do you believe in the Holy Spirit Lord and giver of life who proceeds from the Father and the Son and who with the Father and the Son receives the same worship and glory and who speaks through the prophets?" finalized Garupe
"I believe in," Garupe then took Daaraquo and dunked him into the water for a moment before bringing him back up.
"Daaraquo Dirros, I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit," Garupe said with a smile as Daaraquo smiled as well. This thrall from Essos was to be the first Westerosi Christian.
"I will never be a thrall again, I will serve only Jesus! Come brothers, accept Jesus, and be free." He exclaimed as the other thralls came forward to be baptized. As Garupe and Rodriques baptized all the thralls, making them Christians, they were comforted, knowing that they were doing God's work, but even then they needed to be catechized, and as the lord said "The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few;".
"Forgive me padre, but how did the bread and wine become the body and blood of our Lord," asked Daaraquo as he helped with some of the thralls to guide the priest's ship to a safer place, their fisher village they hail from. The ship on which the priests came was one he had never seen in his life, it was a slim and fast ship made of good quality wood and its color was like dragonglass, with two large triangular sails, with the symbol of a wine-colored Cross, it could hold up to thirty men and he had no idea how only three could handle it alone, the Lord truly favored them.
This generated intrigue in the rest of the thralls, who wanted to know more about their new faith, their conversion was fast and the moment, They wanted to know more about their God.
"Transubstantiation, defined as a dogma in the Council of Trent," Garupe said without concern as he moved the navigation instruments to a safe box. The thralls were puzzled by what he said since they did not know what he was talking about.
"What Father Garupe tried to say is that they become in essence by the power of God into the body and blood but what we perceive is as bread and wine… it's very complex," expressed George as he came down from the mast to try and explain the concept, they were ready to land on to the thralls village, it was still a bit far but in no time.
"What is this Trent… I have not heard about a place called that," said an elderly Thrall as everyone reunited around the two priests, Sebastiao meanwhile was commanding the ship.
"It is a town from the continent we came, it was chosen to have the most recent Ecumenical Council, where all the Bishops, priests who are selected to oversee a territory, the highest ranking bishop is the Pope, who is the successor of Peter, the leader of the apostles thus the leader of God's church." Steadham explained.
