It's one year later and they never talked about the night at the bar, the night they almost kissed, the night things could have changed. But they didn't. Emily and Aaron both went as if nothing ever happened. The others, didn't suspect anything, why would they. They technically didn't do anything that night except almost kiss. But a year later, they are still haunted with the what could have happened.
Celebrating 1 year was a big deal to Emily. She survived the first year at the BAU and she couldn't be more happier. She was proud of herself.
The team, more Garcia, wanted to celebrate with a few drinks with Emily. She on the other hand, was not very influenced to go out. They had just gotten back from a case and she just wanted to go home and spend some time with her daughter. Emily finally caved in and asked Natalia if she wanted to go to her grandmother's house. Natalia was happy that she gets to see her grandmother but she wanted to see her mother more. Emily promised that she would make it up to her.
"Oh come on Emily. You've survived a year at the BAU. You can have more than one drink" Garcia said to Emily.
"I know Pen but What if Natalia needs me?"
"I thought she was with your mother for the night? ?" JJ asked
"She is but what.."
"She'll be fine Em. She's with your mom. Come on let's celebrate."
"Okay fine but a few drinks only.." Emily said sternly
"Okay.. Sure." Garcia said sarcastically.
JJ had sent a text to the rest of the team letting them know that they were about to celebrate Emily's 1 year milestone.
A short while later, Emily, JJ, and Garcia are sitting at a table drinking their drinks when Reid, Rossi, Morgan, and Hotch arrived. Emily wasn't expecting them but none the less she was happy to see them.
"So Emily, how do you feel being one year in?" Rossi asked
"Good. I mean the job has its ups and downs which I feel like can happen anywhere. But I love it here and I love you guys. You guys are by far the best team ive ever worked with."
"Well we are very fortunate to have you on this team. " Hotch stated as he took a sip of his drink
A few hours later and a lot more drinks later, Emily finished her drink when she had made eye contact with Hotch. He smiled at her and it gave her a flashback of the night that they met. She smiled at the memory but her smile quikly fell when she remembered how the night ended. She dazed off until she heard the sound of her name being called.
"Hmm?" Emily mumbled
"Have someone on the mind Em?" Morgan said jokingly
"What? No. Why would you ask me that Morgan?"
"You were lost in your head, so I just assumed. Im just playing with you Prentiss. Don't worry. "
"No just thinking about my kid. You know I think I better get going. I want to be there before she gets home tomorrow. "
"Oh come on Em. Stay for a little longer. You can go home after this round. We never really hang out anymore. " Garcia said
"Okay. No more after this. Promise?"
"promise." Garcia said
And of coarse, that wasn't true. One drink quickly turned into more. Time has passed.
Looking at the time, the team equally as drunk, decided that it was probably the best to get going. Aaron, who was equally as drunk, decided that he would be the one to make sure that Emily got home safely. They both stumbled outside and grabbed a cab that was waiting for them. When they got into the cab, she sighed and looked over at him. He noticed that the sparkle in her eye was still there. He took one glance into her eyes and he knew that at some point, she was the one for him.
"What?" he asked
"I just... I just am grateful to have seen you again." she said slurring her words
"Me too Em. "
Then there was that spark again. It may have been hindered by alcohol but it definitely was there. They looked into each others eyes and Emily leaned in first.
"Aaron?"
"Yeah?"
"I've never stopped thinking about you. "
"I never stopped thinking about you either em." After he said that he leaned in more. Thinking about the almost kiss last year, there was no stopping this time. He bit the bullet and kissed her. The kiss became more heated and passionate. Pulling apart, Emily looked at him and smiled. Without words, they both came to an agreement. Neither one was going to stop this time.
Scooting closer to him and his hand now on her thigh. Things were starting to get more heated when she heard the taxt man say that they had arrived at her apartment. They broke apart, paid the taxi and then got out.
When they made to her floor, he started to kiss her again. In that moment it was like no time had changed, it was like they were the same people they were back then. But they weren't. They were adults with kids and time had passed. When they made it to her door, Emily grabbed her keys out of her purse and tried to get the door to open. When she finally made her way through the door, she shut the door behind them and locked it. She then turned around and kissed Aaron again. It was more passionate this time. They made their way up the stairs and up to her bedroom. He playfully tossed her onto the bed and leaned over her.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" he asked
"Yes." she said as she brought him closer to her.
Next thing they knew, there were clothes scattered all over the floor,
When Aaron woke up the next morning, he put his hand over his eyes and groaned. His head was pounding. He opened his eyes and looked around the room.
The room looked familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.
He then heard a mumble. He looked over and saw her. His eyes grew wide, he hadn't remembered any of the night. He threw his hand over his eyes again and tried to think about the previous night. He knew he had to leave. He would hate himself for leaving without saying anything but he couldn't be there. He needed to get home. He slowly got up trying not to wake her and picked his clothes off the floor. He started to quietly get dressed and looked over at her still sleeping peacefully on the bed. He felt guilty. This isn't how he wanted things to go.
As he finished putting on his shoes, he looked over at her one last time, and took a deep breath before shutting her bedroom door behind him. He practically ran down as fast as his headache would allow him too and left out the front door. He was smart enough to lock the door behind him but not smart enough to stay.
Emily woke up alone, confused, and hungover.
She had no idea what or who she had done the previous night but she knew that it was a mistake, she just didnt know how much of a mistake just yet.
