Chapter 1

Bright blue eyes opened blearily as Nicole yawned and woke up to yet another day.

'Urgh, fuck...here we go.' She thought to herself.

Submitting herself to another typical day, Nicole got out of bed and began trudging about doing her morning tasks to get ready. Showering, getting dressed, the works. To her bitter regret, by the time she was seated at the kitchen table and having breakfast, she was wide awake.

'Now I've no choice to face the day…' She thought with a groan.

She focused simply on eating, that was until she heard the footsteps and looked up as the owner of said footsteps spoke up.

"Now Nicole, I do hope you're going to behave today."

Nicole rolled her eyes. "Yes, mother."

Nicole's mom shook her head, she was taller than Nicole, she had clearly dyed short blonde hair (originally dark brown), pale skin and green eyes.

"I'm serious, Nicole." Her mother said firmly as she sat down at the table too. "We can't afford any more trouble. Understand."

"Trouble follows us everywhere, thanks to that waste of space in the basement." Nicole snapped, referring to her creep of a brother.

"While I don't argue that he is a problem in and of itself." Nicole's mom said sharply. "He is no excuse for your actions."

Nicole shook her head and grumbled, typical, she braced herself, gearing up for the inevitable fight with mom.

Standing up, Nicole narrowed her eyes at her mother.

"Oh, my actions, what actions are we talking about?" She demanded.

"Oh are we doing a list?" Her mom shot back sarcastically as she also stood up. "Skipping school, doing drugs, answering back to your teachers, bullying a boy at the school, shoplifting-"

Nicole snarled, hearing this. "Okay, most of them I see where you're coming from, but bullying. I don't bully anyone, I make sure those creeps who harass me get what they deserve."

"Oh really, and you think that gives you the right to publicly demean that boy." Her mom remarked. "If he really is sexually harassing you, you should report him to a teacher-"

"The teachers are all rapists and pedophiles, or they enable them. They'd just berate me for not letting him do whatever the freak wants with me!" Nicole burst out, her anger burning.

She saw her mother's face turn red, saw the twitch in her eye and braced herself, expecting her mother to burst out in anger too.

But instead her mother took a deep breath and spoke calmly. "Nicole, this is not...just try to have a proper day and not get in trouble."

"You tell me to stay out of trouble and give me grief but you let that scumbag brother of mine do what he wants!" Nicole snapped.

"I've given up on him." Her mom said simply. "Unlike him, you still have a future. Now please, hurry up and get to school, before you're late."

Nicole watched her mother with wide-eyes, not expecting an answer like that. She did however grab her stuff and went to leave.

As she left she noted her mother's reaction and muttered. "Guess the Valium is kicking in."

With that she left and headed for school.

Walking down the corridor, heading to her locker, Nicole sighed.

'Here we go, start of another shitty day, at least it can't get any worse.' She thought to herself.

"Oh, hey Nicole, you're here early." Came a boy's voice.

Nicole groaned and muttered to herself. "Spoke too soon."

She turned to glare at the boy approaching her. He had brown hair reaching to his neck, grey eyes with eye bags underneath, and pale skin.

"What do you want Crispin?" She asked in a tone that made it clear she just wanted him gone.

But as usual he missed the social cue. "Well, I saw you arrive and thought I'd say hello. I don't normally get a chance to see you until class. This is the first time I've seen you here before, you know."

Nicole sighed and shook her head. The boy was such an airhead sometimes, but she knew his game.

"What'll it take to get you to go away." She groaned.

"What, c'mon. That's a bit harsh, I just wanna talk, we're friends, right." Crispin replied.

"Hey, aren't you going to be late for class, Crispin?" Another voice cut in.

Crispin started and turned to the amber eyed girl and realized. "Oh yeah, sure, thanks Jecka."

With that he hurried away. Nicole let out a sigh of relief.

"Thanks for that." Nicole said.

"Don't worry about it." Jecka said with a smile. "Now we're even after you distracted the school counsellor from bothering me last week."

Nicole nodded, remembering, still smiling as she followed Jecka, for once actually going to class without complaint.

Nicole instantly opened up, making small talk with Jecka as they walked to their first class. The conversation was killed stone dead however when Nicole noticed the boy outside of the classroom. He was a frail, skinny, white boy who had a black bowl-cut styled in a middle part. He wore round glasses that blocked out his eyes and as usual, was wearing dorky t-shirts and shorts. He had a hunched back posture which all but confirmed his identity to Nicole.

"Shit...shouldn't have come early." She complained.

Jecka looked at her confused. "Huh, what are talking ab-Oh, Jeffrey."

She sighed as she saw the boy, the one who Nicole had been having trouble with lately. Nicole felt she was being harassed by the boy. But something about it suggested to Jecka that Jeffrey's behaviour towards Nicole was not sexual. But something else. Towards her on the other hand, that was certainly sexual, the way he so much as looked at her.

"Great, now what are we gonna do?"

Too late, Jeffrey looked up and grinned at them. "Oh hey, you guys are here early, how are you doing?"

Nicole rolled her eyes. "Imagining all the different ways to kill you, or myself."

Jeffrey's expression flickered as he looked at her, but then he grinned creepily at Jecka.

"Hi Jecka." He greeted. "So, what-?"

"Not interesting in talking Jeffrey, it's too fucking early for it."

Jeffrey just shrugged. "Okay, later then."

"I've taken nowhere near enough xan for this." Jecka grumbled to Nicole.

"If I'd known that I'd have swiped some of my moms." She replied.

To their relief most of the rest of the class was showing up by now.

"So...what are we gonna do for this class project?" Jecka asked as she left the class.

She wasn't just with Nicole this time, two other girls were with them, two girls who, thanks to their latest class project, the duo would now be working with.

"Hmmmm. I might have a few ideas." The first girl, who had short messy black hair, pale brown or grey eyes, pale skin and glasses, said.

The second girl nodded. "Good to hear Karen, I've been thinking and might have something too."

She was a skinny, fair-skinned girl with wavy, almost messy short dyed red hair and purple eyes.

"Maybe we should talk about it some more, Ari?" Karen queried.

Nicole shrugged. "If you want...sounds like you two are way ahead of us, you at least have ideas."

"Hmmm, yeah." Ari remarked with a shrug. "What do you think?"

Karen nodded. "If you and Jecka are okay with it, Ari and I could talk about what to do then we'll share it with you?"

"Sounds fine to me." Jecka agreed.

Nicole nodded in agreement and smiled, that was less for her to have to do. Of course she soon found herself dealing with another headache.

"Sup bitches, you ready for another boring class?"

Both she and Jecka rolled their eyes and turned to the boy, he had dark-blonde short spiky hair, was Caucasian, and had brown eyes.

"What now, Kylar?" Nicole groaned.

"Oh come on, I can help you with that boredom you know." He said with a heavy hint.

Jecka grimaced. "Ew gross, you know we're not interested."

Nicole nodded. "Yeah, give it a rest, you're one of the worst in this school."

"Gotta agree with them, Kylar, you have your uses, but that's not one of them."

The speaker was a girl, she had long, unevenly-cut blonde hair, styled into a sort of emo/scene shag, blue eyes, and pale skin, she also had a lot of visible self-harm scars.

"What the hell is that supposed to mean, Emily?" Kylar snapped.

"I mean you've got nothing to offer a girl except drugs." Emily quipped. "Speaking of, where's your stash, I wanna buy."

Kylar instantly started fumbling. "Oh um, yeah sure, just a minute I'll go get it."

With that he hurried off while Emily winked at Nicole and Jecka and they smiled, glad for her distraction. As they reached their next class, Nicole sighed, just another regular day at school, or as Nicole preferred to think about it, hell.
