Here is the next chapter to Rebirth. Hope you like it. I'm not sure how much I like this chapter. I just wasn't sure how to right Rebecca's awaking and how others should react to it.
Donald Hayes was not sure this day would ever happen. He was on his way to the hospital to see a patient that had been in a coma for 6 years. He would need to see for himself before notifying the family. Then there was the fact that her adopted brother, and her biological little brother were in deep space.
Donald walked to the room to see a couple doctors and some nurses look the young lady over. He waited till they were finished.
"Lt Hunter other than your muscles are weak from not being used and you need to build up eating to solid food you are in good health. I will let you get some rest and speak with Admiral Hayes for a minute. Then I will have them send you up some broth for you to eat."
Rebecca looked over to the door to an older looking officer wear Admiral insignia. "OK."
The doctor showed the Admiral out to the hallway. "Admiral, I know you have questions to ask about the attack, but I ask you wait till she is stronger. Maybe have some family here when you do."
"At the moment I just want to make sure she is OK so I can let her aunt know. I will try to get a message out to her brothers, but I don't know when that will be. They won't be able to visit at the moment. I'll get Sally here as soon as I can."
"Just not too much information at the time. I want to let her get stronger before giving her any information of the danger her brothers are in at the moment."
"I will do my best, but I won't lie to the young lady." With that Donald entered the room.
"Hello Rebecca, I don't know if you remember me, I was a friend of your fathers."
"I do. Where am I?"
"You are at the main RDF hospital at the RDF Command base. You were brought here a little over six years ago after Sara Base was attacked. You have been in a coma ever since.
Your Aunt Sally visits every month, and your brother Rick visited regularly till he was deployed a year ago. Roy visited when he had leave and the rest of your family visited every now and again."
"Over six years of my life gone."
"Yes, but you have never been forgotten."
"Does my family know I am awake?"
"Not yet. I wanted to see for myself you were before calling your aunt. Your brothers I will get a message to as soon as I can. Both are in deep space right now."
"Wait Rick joined up?"
"Yes, he joined at 17. He graduated early. He took an exit exam at the beginning of his senior year. He is a Commander in charge of his own airwing now."
"Ok, that's a lot to take in. How did he make Commander so fast?"
"He was top of his class in officer training and both his basic and advance flight training. He spent the next three years teaching advance air tactics because he helped developed them during his own training. He then joined the SDF-1's airwing."
"I thought Roy was CAG?"
"He is a Captain in charge of the SDF-1's fleets 5 airwings. Rick took his position over when he was promoted."
"I guess it will be a while before I can see them then."
"Unfortunately, I will get a message out to them as soon as I can. Now, I figure I would call your Aunt Sally and let you speak with her."
"Yea I would like that."
"Give me a second and I'll call and put it on speaker."
Donald made the call and waited for Sally to pick up. When she answered she sounded worried.
"Donald, has something happen?"
Donald nodded to Rebecca. "Aunt Sally it is Rebecca."
"Rebecca, oh my god your awake. When?"
"Yesterday but I fell asleep and spent the day being checked by doctors. The Admiral arrived a few minutes ago. He was telling me how you visited and what Roy and Rick are up to."
"After all this time, it's so hard to believe. I have hopped for so long. Never giving up hope you would wake. I will be heading that way tomorrow. Let the Admiral know."
"I'm here Sally. I will let the control tower know you are making a trip in tomorrow. Call me when you know what time and I will have a car waiting for you."
"Thanks Donald. Rebecca, I will see you tomorrow. I need to let the family know. I'm not sure who all will be able to come."
"Sally, just you and maybe Judy for the time being. The doctors don't want to overwhelm her right now."
"OK, I'll see if Judy can get a few days off from the hospital. What of Roy and Rick?"
"I will send a message as soon as I can. We are not scheduled to talk with the SDF-1 for another week but will see if they can contact us sooner. I will let you go. Rebecca is starting to fall back to sleep."
"OK, see you soon Rebecca. I'll call you after my flight plan has been made Donald."
They said their goodbyes and Donald hung up. Rebecca was already asleep. He left the hospital and headed back to command.

Lisa was officer of the deck when the communications officer called her.
"Commander we just receive an emergency message from RDF command. They request we contact them as soon as possible. They ask that Captain Fokker and Commander Hunter be on the bridge when you contact them."
"Did they say why?"
"No ma'am."
"Contact the Admiral and Captain and let them know."

Rick was standing on the bridge with Roy They were just behind Gloval. They had folded the fleet to be in a better position for visual communications with RDF Command.
"Sir communications coming thru now."
The main screen on the bridge came on with Admiral Hayes on screen. "Henery, I see both Captain Fokker and Commander Hunter are present."
"They are Donald."
"Roy, Rick, I have some news for you. Four days ago, your sister Rebecca woke up." Rick just about passed out at that news. "She is in good health and they have started her on solid foods. She will be starting physical therapy in about a week or so. Both of your aunts are here with her now."
Rick didn't know what to say. He wasn't sure they would ever get this news. Roy seeing Rick having trouble replying spoke.
"Thank you, Admiral, for letting us know. Even if Rick can't speak at the moment, we are very happy to hear the news. I don't think any of us thought this day would ever come."
"No problem. I will try to give you updates with the regular data burst."
Rick was finally able to talk. "Thank you, Admiral, please let Becca know we are happy she woke and look forward to seeing her when we get back."
"I will, I need to cut this transmission. I will pass your message."
With that the transmission ended. "Fokker, you and Hunter take the rest of the day off. I will let you both know when we get an update."
They both thanked the Admiral. They both headed to Roy's room were the had a strong drink. Other then their one drink they just sat there. Both happy see woke and worried they would not be able to save their family if the RoD came.
R/L
Lisa was on the bridge at her usual duty station. It had been a week since Rick and Roy got the news of their sister. She had not been able to speak with Rick this week about her, because he had been so busy.
Jack Archer had his trial and was found guilty. Lisa had to testify along with the Admiral and Rick. The only good thing was that Archer seemed to be remorseful about some of his action and realized how bad he screwed up.
He did state that he felt Rick had no right to come in and make all the changes he did. Most of the pilots that had been part of the SDF-1's airwing were combat pilots with years more experience the Rick.
No one tried to point out that yes that was true but with normal fighters and not the fighters they had now. Rick did ask that the max sentence was not given. Archer didn't care. He hated Rick.
The tribunal had convened for a few hours before announcing their verdict. Everyone waited has they read the charges and found him guilty of all of them. Then the president of the tribunal informed the court that any of these charges could by themselves warrant the death sentence.
He then read the verdict. Even with Rick asking it not to be given they sentence him to death. The judge explained if it had just been just the first two charges they might have given a life sentence. It was the third charge of attacking his superior officer with intent to kill that was the last straw.
The court room was stunned. Everyone figure the sentence would be sever but with Rick advocating a lighter sentence, no one expected the max. The judge stated even though Archers showed some remorse during the trial he never showed a bit of remorse when trying to injure or kill Commander Hunter. Archer had even said if the marines had not stopped him, he would have beat Rick to death. It was that statement that made them decide the max sentence.
Rick had left the court room with his head down. Roy had told them later that Rick felt he fail Jack. Roy said that he told Rick that he didn't fail Jack, it was Jack that fail Rick.
Even though Jack disliked Rick had given Rick the most problems, Rick still gave him a chance to show he was ready for his own airwing. Jack is the one who refused to separate his personal feelings from the job.
The trial ended 2 days ago, and Rick was catching up with work from being at the trial for most of the week. Lisa thought about going down to help him, but Roy told her not to. Rick needed the time to work things out.
"Lisa, what are you thinking about over there?" asked Claudia.
"I'm worried about Rick. He hated that there had to be a trial and hated the sentence even more."
"I know, but Archer didn't give the captain any choice, especially after he attacked Rick. Archer can't say the trial was not fair either since the tribunal was made up of three of the other ships Captains."
"I know and I'm sure Rick does too. I just wish I could talk with him."
"Why don't you. It's been two days. Surely he will be ready to talk about how he feels about the trial."
"Maybe I will. As Roy said anything today about how Rick is doing?"
"No, I haven't talked with him today. They had a big meeting today about upcoming operation."
Lisa forgot about that. She didn't know what was planned but knew the Admiral had something up his sleeve.
"I'll try stopping by later to see if he is in. Maybe I can get him to tell me about Rebecca."
R/L
Rick was in his quarters watching a movie when there was a knock at his door. He got up to answer it and was not surprised it was Lisa.
"I expected you here to nights ago." Rick told her with a smirk.
Lisa just glared at him. "I would have been, but Roy suggested that I give you some time to come to terms with things."
"I'm good. After the sentencing I was not happy about it. I would have been happy if he had just been kicked out."
"I know the Judges had the right to pass the sentence, but I think they could have gone with something else also." Lisa told him.
"I can see why they did it. With Jack's state of mind and the statement he made about what he would have done had the marine guard not stopped him. We are in a state of war. Jack strait up told the court he would have killed me given the chance."
"What is going to happen? Are they going to carry out the sentence here or send him back to Earth?" asked Lisa
"He is going back to Earth in a couple days. He has a right to appeal. He will be transferred to a destroyer and a squadron of fighters will escort it back to Earth."
"Let me guess, Wraith squadron."
"Yes, I was his CO so I will need to speak to whoever is taking over."
"At least if you go to RDF Command you will get to see your sister."
"Yes, it will be nice. Of course, I will have to tease her about sleeping for six years."
"Tell me about Rebecca. All you ever said before was she died in the old timeline."
"While we tried to keep things close as possible till Breetai showed up, your father did take steps to save lives on Sara Base.
He had already sent several shuttles to evacuate the base in case there was any danger. Rebecca was in medical, so she was on the first shuttle out. Only one other made it. Another medical shuttle."
"Why was she in medical?"
"Just before the attack she was hit in the head from behind. They don't know who or why."
"They never found out?"
"No, the attack happens just hours after and she hadn't woken to tell them anything. No witnesses either."
Rick went on to tell Lisa some stories about his older sister. He explained she was just a year younger than Roy. He explained after his mother died; she helped Aunt Sally raise him.
"Rebecca or Becca as I have always called her was not my only sister. I had a twin named Rachel."
Lisa could tell this was hard for Rick, so she took his hand. "What happen to her?"
"I told you my mother died in a car accident. What I didn't tell you was that Rachel was with her.
I didn't find out till later it was not the accident that killed her. My mom was murdered. Rachel was never found. To this day we don't know what happen to her or if she is even alive."
"I'm sorry, that must have been ruff on you."
"It was, but Becca was there for me and helped out a lot. Aunt Sally was great and her kids. That is why Aunt Sally has always been more protective of me then the others."
"So that's why you got the be safe talk before you arrived at Macross Island."
"Yes, besides being the youngest, I have had a harder time then the other kids. Of course I am a lot older now and Have had time to mourn my twin."
"Did I know about her before?"
"No, we really never talked much about our families we lost during the RoD. Since I was not expecting to be wisked away to space when visiting Roy, I didn't have any pictures of my sisters with me. Roy probably did but I never was able to go through his stuff when he died. All his stuff was still in storage on the SDF-1 when it was destroyed."
"Do you have any pictures with you this time?"
"Yea let me get my photo album."
The two of them spent a few hours looking at pictures and Rick telling the stories behind some of them. When they got too tired to stay awake, they headed into Rick's bedroom and fell asleep with Lisa holding Rick.
I know some of you will question Jack Archer's sentence. Remember first they are in a state of war. Even if there have only been a few confrontations so far. Penalties for crimes always are more sever in some cases. A lot of Archer's actions could have cost people their lives.
By changing the training schedule, he insured that the pilots were not trained as they should have been. You have to keep training up to insure you can keep our level of skill up.
Then how he changed the schedule so some of the squadrons had more time flying CAP then others. Had an attack happen those pilots might have been a lot more tired that could have let them make more mistakes that could cost them their lives or others their lives.
While those two things might not have got him the max sentence. Especially since he regretted his actions there. It was really the last thing that got him the death sentence. He showed no remorse for his actions towards Rick and going so far as to say he would have killed him.
The reason Archer hates Rick so much is in this story Archer is extremely arrogant. He showed that from the beginning. He was also Roy's number two in the airwing before Rick arrived. So, he developed a deep hatred for Rick. All he saw was some young pilot with no experience taking his place and costing him the CAG position. Hate makes people do stupid things sometimes.
In the next chapter we will get Rick and Rebecca's reunion. We will also get the conclusion to Archer's part in the story.
