[1 Week Later] [2 miles out from Academy Island]

"Uuugghh. When are we gonna get there?" Lori asked while lying back in her seat. She was kicking her legs up and down quickly out of the boredom of being on a helicopter ride for several hours. Yuni, who had heard the girl ask this question no less than 5 times already, looked down at the girl on her right. "We should be getting there pretty soon…. I hope…" She said softly while trying her best to ignore her very upset stomach. Who would've guessed that the former sky Arcobaleno would be air sick?

Both girls were suffering on this long helicopter ride, though for different reasons. All the while, Yuuchi, who was sitting across the aisle on Yuni's left, was napping without a care in the world with some headphones on. Yuni looked over at him with a small look of jealousy, wishing she could be as relaxed as him.

Just as Yuni was hit with another feeling of nausea, the intercom was turned on. "Attention students. If you look outside your windows, you'll be able to see your new home for the school year: Academy Island."

Every student, but Yuni, in the helicopter rushed to a window to get a glimpse at the island they'd be spending so much time at. The island was definitely big, and even had an active volcano on one end of it. At the other end, they could see the huge school building with a dome like roof and a big rock wall behind it, which the students assumed was to protect the school in the worst-case scenario of the volcano going off. They all could also see the long river that traveled from the left side of the building, all the way through the front, and ending all the way to the right of it. Then there was a small beach on the right side of the island too.

"Ooo, look Yuni, there's a beach! We should go there!" Lori suggested while pointing at the location.

"Alright kids, get back to your seats, put them in the upright position, and fasten your seatbelts. We're about to be going into land." The pilot finished, making all the students quickly go back to their seats.

Lori sat her seat back up straight as she turned and smiled at Yuni. "We're finally about to be there! Aren't you excited?" She asked while lightly bouncing in her seat.

Yuni just nodded her head and put on a shaky smile that seemed a little forced. "Mhhmm, so excited." She replied, trying not to use too many words. She couldn't wait to be let off and for her feet to be on solid ground again.

…. [Duel Academy Island. 3:30 PM]

Yuni was standing in the front of a large classroom with a bunch of other students. Lori, Yuuchi, and her were all sent to different classrooms shortly after getting to the island. She figured that the school probably split all the students up due to how many there were. Then suddenly, the large screen above the whiteboard in front of them turned on. The screen showed a bald man with a goatee, who seemed to wear a tan colored suit and brown tie underneath his maroon-colored uniform jacket.

"Good morning and welcome my students." The man said happily. "I'm Chancellor Sheppard, the headmaster here, and YOU are the best, and brightest young duelists in the world."

Yuni was thinking how this man seemed quite chipper for a headmaster. Usually, the principals at her previous schools were very uptight, like they didn't even want to have their job. So, this was a nice change of pace for her.

"In front of you all should be a faculty member. This member will hand out your current school uniform, and afterwards, I want you all to settle into your assigned dorms. I think you'll find them quite comfortable. Depending on how you ranked of course, huhuhuhuh!" He laughed heartily.

Yuni and the other students looked down to see the black-haired faculty member standing behind a podium with several open boxes next to him, being reminded of the school asking them for their measurements. The member waved slightly at the crowd as Sheppard continued his message.

"But no matter the rank you were given, I want you all to wear that color with pride. After all, not just anybody can be enrolled here." He said seriously. "Study hard children, and work to become better duelists than you were yesterday! Now, I hope you enjoy the rest of your day, and remember, classes officially start tomorrow." He finished as the screen turned off. The staff member then told the crowd of students to come up and get their jackets once they heard their name called.

Yuni watched as students one by one went up to grab their jacket, all the while smiling to herself. She knew she had been accepted into the school, obviously, but this moment felt like she was truly being recognized as a student here. Like her skills as a duelist were truly being acknowledged.

"Yuni Nero!" The man called out. Yuni smiled wider as she walked up to the man to grab her school jacket. As she stepped up to the podium, the man handed her a folded jacket that had a tag with her name on it. A part of her kinda wished it was orange, but beggars can't be man gave Yuni a small smile as she looked over the jacket.

"Welcome to Ra Yellow."

…...

"Want to go check out the cafeteria?"

"Let's do some practice duels."

"Hey, you in red too?"

Yuni listened to all these conversations around her as she waited in front of the school building for her friends. They all promised to meet up here after they got their ranks. So, for now while she waited, she messed around with her new PDA that the school provided to every student.

(Author's Note: A PDA is a Personal Digital Assistant, and the ones given here are basically a touch screen phone)

"Hey, Yuni!" A voice called out. Yuni looked over to see Lori practically skipping over to her. Yuni smiled and walked over to her. When the blonde stopped in front of her, she did a little twirl, showing off her new jacket.

"Don't I look good in red?" Lori asked while doing some cute and cool poses. Yuni giggled at the girl before answering. "Of course, you make the jacket look good." This made Lori smile even wider. "And you too Yuuchi." Yuni said while looking behind Lori.

Lori turned around to see Yuuchi, who was now blushing from Yuni's compliment, standing awkwardly in his new dark blue jacket. "Um, t-thanks Yuni." He said quietly.

Lori narrowed her eyes and went over to Yuuchi, before walking around him as if she was sizing him up. This action made Yuuchi more nervous as he didn't know why she was doing this. Suddenly she went back to standing in front of him and smiled widely at him. "You're rocking the blue jacket Yuyuuchi! And I heard from someone that the students in blue jackets are the highest ranked. I never would've imagined that you would be one of them. No offense." She told him innocently.

Yuuchi messed with the collar of his jacket as he looked down at his feet. "T-thanks I guess, I just d-did my best…and my n-name isn't-" he started before being cut off by Lori spinning around quickly to Yuni.

"Oh no! I just realized that this means we're all in different dorms!" She said sadly. Yuni just patted Lori's shoulder. "Well, just because we're in different dorms doesn't mean we can't hang out." She said, trying her best to console her friend.

Lori slowly nodded. "I guess, but I wanted us to be roomies." Yuni thought for a moment before holding up her PDA and lightly waving it at Lori. "How about we exchange numbers, and every now and then maybe we can have a little sleepover?" She asked. Lori perked up at the proposition. "YES! That would be so fun!" She exclaimed while jumping up and down in excitement before practically yanking her PDA out of its case that was attached to her pants.

"Come on Yuyuuchi, you too." Lori said, turning to him. Yuuchi sighed before muttering how that's not his name and walked over to the two to exchange numbers.

"Alright, I'm going to get my bags and drop them off in my dorm. How about we all meet up here again in about 45 minutes? We can do our own little tour of the campus." Yuni asked them with a smile. Both Lori and Yuuchi agreed to this, and shortly after they all left to go to their respective dorms.

….

Yuni arrived at the Ra dorm with her suitcase and duffel bag in hand. 'This looks nice.' she thought as she walked inside the yellow building. As she walked through the nice lounge area, she pulled out a piece of paper with her room number on it.

"Um, excuse me." She called out to another Ra yellow student with black slicked back hair. "Do you know where room 73 might be?" She asked him.

"Hm? Oh yes, I believe it would be over there down the right hall. That's the girls' side of the dorm after all." He said eloquently while pointing down the hallway on Yuni's right.

"Oh, ok." Yuni then did a small bow to the boy. "Thank you very much…um..." She trailed off waiting for him to introduce himself. He caught on to this pretty quickly though. "Oh, forgive my manners. My name is Bastion Misawa." He said with a small bow of his own.

Yuni stood back up straight and smiled at him. "Thank you very much Bastion. My name is Yuni Nero. I hope to see you more throughout our time here." She said before giving one more bow. She then turned to go down the hall to find her room.

'Hmm? Yuni Nero…' Bastion pondered to himself for a bit before snapping his fingers in realization. 'That's the same last name as that pro duelist.' He thought as he turned his head to see the back of Yuni walking down the hall. 'I wonder…'

Yuni turned the corner at the end of the hall and found her room just a couple of doors down. She put her PDA onto the electric lock on the door to unlock it, and then walked inside her new room.

Yuni looked around at the room, thinking about how it reminded her of a hotel room. It was a big room for just one person, complete with a queen-sized bed against the side wall with a window. Yuni saw there was a dresser and desk combo against the front wall, and next to it was a mini fridge with a small microwave on top. Behind her on her left was a decent sized closet, with nothing but hangers and laundry baskets in it. The room even had a TV in the wall right above the dresser.

Yuni brought the suitcase up to the bed before tossing her bag onto it. "Alright then. Time to get started with all of this." She said, staring at her bags before going through them.

…...

After unpacking all her things, Yuni headed back to the school and met up with her friends. They had walked around, stopping by different classrooms, the cafeteria, and even finding some stairs that led to the roof. Currently though, they were at the card shop, which had decided to open today even though school hadn't officially started.

"Come on, come on. Mama needs a new pair of cards!" Lori said while opening her 3 packs that she bought. Yuni looked at the cards she pulled from the 2 packs she bought and sighed. "Well, I got nothing to help me, what about you Yuuchi?"

Yuuchi, who decided to only get 1 pack, just shook his hand and showed her the cards he got. "No, n-nothing good." He spoke. He saw the cards that Yuni had just gotten and pointed at one. "Um…C-can I have t-hat one? It would help m-my deck." He asked nervously while trying to look anywhere but Yuni's eyes.

Yuni gave him a smile and handed him the card. "Of course you can. I can't use it, so it might as well be given to someone who can." Yuuchi slowly took the card from her hands and muttered out a "Thanks."

"Yessss!" Lori yelled as she did a pose while holding up 2 cards in her hand. "I got just what I needed!" She said before pulling out her deck box and swapping some cards out for the 2 new ones she got.

"Oh, congrats Lori." Yuni said while clapping her hands for her friend. "What were the cards you got?" She asked while scooting a little closer to try to see what cards the blond just got.

Lori, who was about to answer the girl, when a lightbulb appeared above her head, and a mischievous grin grew on her face. "Well, if you really want to know. You'll have to find out….in a duel!" She said to Yuni while pointing at her. Yuni blinked in surprise at the sudden request before she smiled and gained a competitive look in her eyes.

"Hehe, you're on." Yuni said, trying her best to look intimidating. Lori just smirked at her friend before grabbing her arm and started to practically drag her to the duel stadium they had seen on their tour.

…...

"A-are you sure we can b-be here?" Yuuchi asked the two girls who were up on the dueling stage prepping their duel disks. Lori, who just placed her deck into its slot, looked over to the meek boy. "Oh, calm down. We're at a DUELING school, why wouldn't we be able to duel?" She said, waving off his concerns before turning to Yuni. "Are you ready over there?" She asked.

Yuni, who just turned her duel disk on, smiled at Lori. "Ready when you are, Lori." She said, brandishing her duel disk. Lori smiled back before turning her disk on as well. Yuuchi just sighed as he walked to stand off to the side to watch the duel.

"Duel!" Both girls said.

"I call first!" Lori said quickly as she drew a card. She looked through her 6 cards for a moment before smiling at Yuni and starting her turn. "First I'll normal summon Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands in attack mode!" She said as she placed the monster onto her duel disk, making a gray humanoid creature with thousands of hands for a body appeared on the field.

Light | Fairy | Lvl 4 | ATK: 1400 | DEF: 1000

"When this card is normal summoned, I get to add one ritual spell or ritual monster from my deck to my hand." She said as she pulled out her deck to look for a card. "And I'll add the ritual spell Rockin' Contract." Lori revealed the card before putting it into her hand. "I'll then set three cards face down and end my turn. Now show me what you got Yuni!" Lori shouted as three cards popped up behind her monster.

Yuni gave a competitive grin as she went to draw a card. "Oh, I'll show you alright. I draw!" Yuni responded before looking at her hand.

Rainbow Maker Red

Bountiful Artemis

Call of the Haunted

Spirits Fusion

Rainbow Standoff

Rainbow Maker Yellow

"Alright, I'll start by normal summoning Rainbow Maker Red!" Yuni placed the card onto her disk and the brown-haired boy appeared in a flash of red.

Light | Fairy | Lvl 4 | ATK: 1600 | DEF: 1000

"But I won't stop there! Since I control Rainbow Maker Red, I get to special summon Rainbow Maker Yellow from my hand with his effect!" Yuni explained as she then summoned her second monster, with the yellow raincoat wearing boy appearing in a flash of yellow.

Light | Fairy | Lvl 3 | ATK: 1400 | DEF: 1300

Red looked over at his friend with a smile and brought his hand out for a high five, which Yellow slowly returned. "And now, I'll go to the battle phase and have my Rainbow Maker Red attack your Manju! Go, Crimson Ray!" Yuni called out while pointing at her friend's monster. Red's hands glowed before he pushed them both out at the monster in front of him, shooting a red beam at it.

"I don't think so! I activate my trap card, Draining Shield. Which not only will negate your attack but will also let me gain life points equal to your attacking monsters attack points." Lori explained as a shield popped out the card, making the red beam hit it. Lori looked on with a smile as her life points went up to 5600. "Now, the question is, will you try to crash my Manju with your Yellow?" Lori taunted Yuni with a smirk.

Yuni thought about it for a second, but in the end decided not to attack just yet. "No, I don't think I will." She said before grabbing the three trap cards in her hand. "I'll set 3 cards face down and end my turn." Yuni said as she placed the three cards into her duel disk.

"Ok copycat." Lori said jokingly. "But before you end your turn, I activate my other face down card, Rock Bombardment!" Lori flipped up her trap card. "This lets me send one rock type monster from my deck to the graveyard, and then deal 500 damage to you." Lori explained as she looked into her deck again. "I'm going to send Rockstar's Mentor to my graveyard. Now it's time to deal some damage!" As she sent her monster to the graveyard, the trap card on the field glowed as a catapult appeared in front of the card. The catapult then launched a big rock towards Yuni, who flinched as it came in contact with her making her life points go down to 3500. "Haha, I got first blood." Lori exclaimed cockily with her hands on her hips.

"Now then, my turn. Ha!" Lori said as she drew a card, and right after, Yuni saw her friend smile at the card she just drew. "I'm going to activate the ritual spell card Rockin' Contract." Lori took the spell that she added last turn and put it into her duel disk, making Yuni see that the card art was a blue haired girl signing what she assumed to be a contract.

"I'm going to tribute my level 4 Manju, and the level 3 Rockstar's Manager monster in my hand, to ritual summon my favorite monster!" Lori started as she sent her 2 monsters to the graveyard before grabbing a card in her hand. "Amber the Rockstar!" She finished as she dramatically threw the card down.

The monster that appeared was a blue haired girl with one blue eye and one gold eye. The girl was dressed as a combination of goth-like clothing and fur pelts like what people would think a caveman wears. She also wore a hairpin that had a skull on it and a black choker with spikes coming out of it.

Earth | Rock | Lvl 7 | ATK: 2300 | DEF: 2500

"And since I tributed Rockstar's Manager to summon Amber, his effect activates which lets me draw 1 card." Lori said as drew a card and smiled at it. "Now, I'll activate my last face down card, the trap, Rockin' Bass and equip it Amber!" Lori flipped up her last set trap that had a picture of a bass guitar made out of rocks and gems, and Yuni watched as the bass was placed into Amber's hands. "And whenever this card is equipped to Amber, once per turn, I can add 1 rock type monster from my graveyard to my hand. So, I'm going to choose to add my Rockstar's Mentor to my hand." She continued as she grabbed the monster she sent to the graveyard earlier.

"And since I control an Amber the Rockstar, I get to special summon Rockstar's Mentor from my hand!" Lori brought out the monster from her hand. The mentor was a woman with long brown hair, glasses, and a tattoo on her left arm.

Earth | Rock | Lvl 3 | ATK: 900 | DEF: 1300

"And since it was summoned by its effect, it gets a 1000 attack point bonus!" Lori cheered as her monster's attack went up to 1900. "And now, I activate one of the new cards I got today!" Lori shouted while dramatically holding the card in her hand in the air before slamming it into her duel disk's field spell slot. "Rockin' Records!"

The duel field shook as rock walls surrounded the two girls and put them in what looked like a recording booth with mics and various instruments made out of rocks placed around them. As Yuni was looking around at the place, Lori's monsters glowed light blue for a moment.

"And one of this card's effect is that it gives all rock type monsters on the field a bonus 200 attack and defense." She explained as her monsters went up to 2100 and 2500 attack points. "Then I can use its second effect, to banish 1 rock monster from my graveyard, to make it so that all face-up spells and traps I control can't be destroyed until the end of the next turn. Pretty good card, right?" Lori asked as she banished her Rockstar's Manager.

"Yeah, this was a pretty impressive turn." Yuni said honestly to her friend with an honest smile. Lori smiled back at her.

"Well, it's about to be even more impressive, because I'm going to attack your monsters!" Lori said. "First, I'll have Rockstar's Mentor attack your Rainbow Maker Yellow!" She said as her monster grabbed a rock guitar from the booth they were in, then ran up to Yellow to try to hit him with it.

"Actually, I'll activate a trap of my own! Rainbow Standoff!" Yuni exclaimed as she flipped her trap up. "This card makes it so that it negates your attack, and then forces your strongest monster to battle my strongest Rainbow Maker monster instead." Yuni said as a green shield blocked Mentor's attack. Then the same green glow surrounded Amber and Red, making Red charge Amber with his red glowing hands. Amber smirked before strumming her rock bass guitar sending sound waves at Red, making him be destroyed in a red explosion.

Yuni grunted as she took 900 damage, making her life points 2600. Lori then huffed in disappointment and ended her turn.

Yuni drew for her turn and saw it was Rainbow Reach. "I'm going to activate my face down, Call of the Haunted, and use its effect to summon back Rainbow Maker Red in attack mode." Yuni said as she used her second face down card to bring back her monster. "Now, since I control another Rainbow Maker monster, Yellow can use his effect, which lets him destroy 1 monster you control with more attack points than him." Yuni explained as Yellow's hands glowed brightly. "Your spells and traps might not be able to be destroyed, but your monsters can! Yellow, destroy Amber the Rockstar!" Yuni called out as her monster sent out a big yellow beam at the rockstar, making Amber scream before being destroyed.

"Oh no!" Lori said as her monster got destroyed.

"And since Amber is gone, your Rockin' Bass trap is also destroyed!" Yuni continued as her friend's trap was destroyed as well. "Next, I'll use the continuous spell Rainbow Reach and I'll use its effect to banish Rainbow Maker Blue." Yuni took out her deck and brought her monster out as it turned into a blue rainbow that formed above them.

"Then I'll put Yellow into defense mode and summon Bountiful Artemis in defense mode as well. Then I end my turn." She finished as she placed her monster onto the field.

Light | Fairy | Lvl 4 | ATK: 1600 | DEF: 1700

Lori had a frown on her face as she drew a card, before placing that card onto her disk. "I summon Rockstar's Groupies in attack mode." Lori said. A group of three young girls wearing caveman-like clothing like Amber, and glow stick necklaces and headbands appeared. They quickly looked around, trying to find their favorite idol to no avail.

Earth | Rock | Lvl 4 | ATK: 1500 | DEF: 1000

"And don't forget about the 200 attack and defense boost!" Lori called out as her monster glowed and their attack points went up to 1700. "Now, I'll just go to battle, Mentor go attack her Rainbow Maker Red!" Lori commanded. Mentor, still holding the guitar she grabbed from last turn, ran at Red and swung the instrument at the boy who tried to block it before being sent back to the graveyard for the second time in a red explosion.

Yuni flinched as her life points went down to 2100. Lori then called for the Groupies to attack Yellow. The Groupies all ran at the yellow clad boy and started swinging their arms wildly at him, making him be destroyed in a yellow explosion. "With that, I'll end my turn." Lori said to Yuni.

"My turn then." Yuni said as she drew a card. "I'll just activate my Rainbow Reach to banish a Rainbow Maker Red from my deck." Yuni started as she took out the monster, and then it joined the blue rainbow above them. "And I'll just set one card face down and end my turn, which will let me get the Rainbow Maker Blue that I banished last turn." Yuni said as put the card she just drew into her duel disk and got her first banished monster into her hand.

Lori smirked. "You can only slow me down for so long before I get the win you know?" She said as she drew for her turn. "I'll set one card face down then move to my battle phase! Mentor, destroy her Artemis with Bass Bash!" She called out as her monster ran forward with the instrument in hand.

"Not yet you won't, I activate Negate Attack which will stop your attack and end your battle phase." Yuni interrupted by using her newly set card. "And that's not all. Now Artemis can use its effect to let me draw 1 card whenever a counter trap is activated." Yuni explained while drawing a card which was Polymerization.

Lori just frowned and proceeded to end her turn, hoping that Yuni didn't get enough to turn the duel around.

"Alright, it's not over yet. I draw!" Yuni drew her next card which was Prelude to a Rainbow. "Alright, first I'll use Rainbow Reach again, this time to banish Rainbow Maker Indigo." Yuni said using her spell for the third time. "Then, I'll summon Rainbow Maker Blue in defense mode."

Light | Fairy | Lvl 3 | ATK: 1300 | DEF: 1500

"Now I'll set one card face down again and end my turn." Yuni finished by setting her trap and getting her banished Rainbow Maker Red to her hand.

"I didn't know your deck would've been so good at stalling." Lori said as she drew a card. "I'll activate the card I drew. Pot of Greed, which lets me draw 2 more cards from my deck." She said as she drew two more times.

"Now since I control a Rockstar monster, I can activate the spell card Rockin' Rehearsal. This card makes it so that during my next turn, all Rockstar monsters I control can't be destroyed by battle or card effects." She explained before grabbing the second card in her hand. "And I'll follow it up with the spell card Monster Reborn, which I'll use to bring back my Amber the Rockstar in my grave!" Lori yelled as her blue haired ritual monster came back onto the field. The Groupies, upon seeing her, started screaming from excitement and waved their microphone glow sticks around wildly. Amber just gave a smile and a wave back to her huge fans.

"Let's finish this guys! Groupies attack her Rainbow Maker Blue!" Lori commanded, but Yuni cut in.

"Not so fast! I'll activate my trap card Spirits Fusion. Which lets me fusion summon a monster by banishing its materials from my graveyard and paying 1000 life points. The monster does get destroyed during the End Phase though." Yuni explained as her life points went down to 1100. "So, I'll banish Rainbow Maker Red and Rainbow Maker Yellow to fusion summon, Rainbow Maker Orange!" Yuni yelled as her two monsters combined to turn into orange haired boy.

Light | Fairy | Lvl 7 | ATK: 2500 | DEF: 2000

"So what? He can't stop my attack!" Lori stated. Yuni just smiled at her.

"Maybe not, but my other trap will. I activate Prelude to a Rainbow. Since I now control 2 Rainbow Maker monsters, it'll destroy all monsters on the field!" Yuni said as heavy rain clouds appeared above them in the recording booth, before a heavy downpour started which destroyed all the monsters on the field.

Lori had a look of shock on her face as she watched her monsters get destroyed. "Aw man. I guess I'll end my turn there then." She said sadly.

"Now it's time for me to turn this duel around! I draw." Yuni said as she looked at what she drew. "I summon Rainbow Maker Red in attack mode. Then, since I control him, I can special summon the Rainbow Maker Blue that's in my hand, also in attack mode." Yuni placed both of the monsters in her hand onto the field. "Now I'll go into my battle phase and attack you directly with both of my monsters!" Both Red and Blue's hands glowed their respective colors before they shot out beams towards Lori, with the beams combining and making a bigger, violet colored beam

"Ahh!" Lori screamed as her life points went down from 5600 to 2700.

"Now I'll end my turn, which will let me grab the Rainbow Maker Indigo I banished. But that's not all! Prelude to a Rainbow says that during the End Phase of the next turn I used it on, any Rainbow Maker monsters that were destroyed by its effect get summoned back to my field ignoring their summoning conditions. So welcome back Rainbow Maker Blue and Rainbow Maker Orange!" Yuni explained as her monsters came back to the field.

Lori looked at Yuni's field with worry and drew a card. She looked at it with disappointment and just ended her turn there. Unfortunately, she didn't get the card to keep her in the game.

Yuni drew a card, and then immediately went to her battle phase. "Alright, Rainbow Maker Blue attack directly! Azure Storm!" She called as her monster sent shards of her blue energy at Lori, dropping her life points to 1400. "Now, Rainbow Maker Orange, finish this duel! Bright Burner!" Yuni commanded, making her monster fire an orange beam at Lori, making her life points hit 0.

…...

Lori stood in place with her head down, making Yuni worry for a moment.

"Lori? You ok?" She asked her friend with a concerned look on her face. Lori slowly lifted her head up with a neutral look on her face. Then, just as fast as it was there, it was gone. Replaced with her wide toothy grin and her green eyes full of excitement.

"That was awesome! Your deck was so cool! I had heard of the Rainbow Makers before, but this was my first time actually seeing them in action!" Lori rambled excitedly while running over to Yuni. Once she had reached the girl, she grabbed both of her hands with hers, and started to shake them up and down quickly. "This was so much fun, thank you for agreeing to duel with me! We should do it again soon!" She continued to ramble.

Yuni, who finally had time to speak, smiled widely back at her friend. "Yeah, we'll definitely do this again! And your deck was cool too, and it had cute monsters." She responded enthusiastically.

While the two girls kept talking about their duel and future duels to come, Yuuchi who was still standing on the side, was thinking to himself.

'Yuni won this match, as expected, but Lori did have a good start.' He thought with his hand on his chin. 'The Rainbow Makers deck is very interesting. With how Yuni made her deck, it seems like it can become offensive or defensive depending on what she needs.' He deduced. 'And not only is the deck good, but Yuni is a pretty good duelist too.'

A tiny smile crept onto his face as he thought about the prospect of going against the girl and her deck to see which of the two was better.

'What's more interesting though is Lori, and her using the Rockstar deck. Most people steer away from it due to it's hard to accomplish game plan. Lori might be a little air headed, but there's no way she doesn't know about that. So why would she willingly play a deck that even pros avoid?' He thought as his gaze shifted to the hyperactive girl.

"Hey, what do you two think you're doing!?" A male voice called out suddenly, making Yuuchi jolt.

The two girls turned to see two boys in obelisk blue jackets walking in from the entrance tunnel of the arena. One boy with spiky brown hair, and the other with wavy blue hair and small glasses.

Lori turned to face them with the smile still on her face. "Oh, we were just having a duel for fun. Did you want to go next?" She asked them innocently.

"Hmph, you must not know about this arena belonging to the obelisk blue dorm." The brown-haired boy said. "Check out the crest." He said while pointing at a symbol above the entrance tunnel. The two girls looked up and saw a big green emblem with what they assumed was Obelisk the Tormentor on it.

"That means this is our turf, got that?" The other boy asked before turning to look at Yuuchi. "And you should know this too. We blue's gotta let the slifer scum and revolting ra's know their place." He told him.

Yuuchi, shocked to hear this, but was also getting nervous from everyone now looking at him. "U-um, w-well I-" He started before getting cut off by another voice.

"Oh man, we missed it. I told you I could tell someone was dueling Sy." This came from another brown-haired boy, who instead was wearing a slifer red jacket. He was followed by a shorter boy with big teal hair and glasses. "Slow down Jaden." He called out as he caught up to the now named Jaden.

"So, is there a wait list I can join so that I can get a duel in?" Jaden asked. The two obelisk boys sneered at him and pointed at the crest again. "No, this place belongs to the obelisk dorm, so you don't get to duel here." The glasses wearing boy said angrily.

The two newcomers looked back at the crest, making Syrus say how they should just leave, but Jaden claimed how he could duel as a guest if one of the boys was his opponent.

Suddenly the two boys realized something.

"Hey, you're that kid."

"Hey Chazz, that kid who beat Dr. Crowler is here."

They said, with the brown-haired one calling out to someone in the stands. Everyone turned to see a spiky black-haired boy also in a blue jacket in the stands, sitting up from his laid-back position. The boy's gray eyes drifted over everyone before stopping at Jaden.

"Oh yeah, that is the guy." Lori whispered to Yuni as she pointed at Jaden. "Remember the last applicant that dueled against the teacher?" She asked her. Yuni nodded her head. "Yeah, I remember. He used the Elemental Hero deck." Yuni responded with a whisper.

As they whispered to themselves, Jaden and Chazz were talking about how they would become the King of Games, before ending with Chazz challenging Jaden to a duel and Jaden accepting it.

"Well, this sure is a motley crew." Another new voice said. Everyone turned to see a tall blonde girl wearing the girl's obelisk jacket walk up to the group with her arms folded.

"Hey Alexis. Have you come to watch me mop the floor with my new little friend Jaden here?" Chazz asked the girl arrogantly, "It'll be a short duel, but an entertaining one for sure."

Alexis, with her arms still crossed, just stared at him before responding. "I'm here to remind you about the obelisk welcome dinner. You're late." She said sternly. Chazz, realizing this, called for the two obelisk boys to follow him as he left the arena.

Alexis then turned to look at everyone else. "I'm sorry if Chazz rubbed any of you the wrong way. I promise, not all of us obelisk students are like that. He's just a jerk, especially with slifers." She apologized.

Lori waved her hand at Alexis. "It's fine, I don't really care. Besides, I know Yuyuuchi isn't like that." She said while sending the boy a smile. Jaden nodded in agreement and started boasting about how he could've beaten Chazz in two turns if he had gotten to duel him. Alexis giggled at their responses.

"The Slifer and Ra welcome dinners are also about to start, so you guys should start heading out to those." She told them with a smile.

"Right, we better go Sy." Jaden said before turning and running through the tunnel, with Syrus lagging behind him.

"Wait up, I'll tag along with you guys! See ya tomorrow, Yuni, Yuuchi. I'll text you guys after the welcome dinner." Lori called out as she jumped off the stage and ran over to the two boys. "My name's Lori, nice to meet ya guys." She said once she got to them, before they all ran off with Jaden and Syrus introducing themselves.

Yuni smiled as she waved off her friend before turning to Yuuchi and Alexis. "Well, I'll be heading out too. See you tomorrow Yuuchi, and it was nice to meet you, Alexis. I hope you two enjoy your dinner." She said to the two while giving a bow to Alexis right before leaving.

"Alright then, Yuuchi, right?" Alexis said, turning to the boy. Yuuchi just nodded his head while looking down nervously with a blush on his face. "Don't worry, I don't bite. Come on, we have to head to the dorm." She said gently while gesturing to the tunnel.

Yuuchi looked up at the smiling girl before slowly walking towards her and the exit.

…. [Ra Dorm, 10:00 P.M.]

Yuni was lying down on her bed watching TV after the welcome dinner. She had never seen so much food in one place before. There was steak, sushi, and even lobster. Yuni rubbed her slightly bloated stomach, she had made sure she got her fill.

"And now, it's time for the final match!" Said the announcer on the TV, making Yuni fully focus on the dueling tournament she was watching. "Give it up for the rising star, Ryuji!" The announcer yelled, which was followed by a big applause for the tall man that walked up onto the stage. "Now, give it up for our very own reigning champion! The leader of the rainbow! Aria Nero!" Aria walked onto the stage across from Ryuji, and the applause that followed was thunderous, with multiple people in the stands jumping to their feet.

Yuni clapped lightly, as not to disturb her neighbors in the rooms next to hers, in support of her mother. She really wished she could call her mom to tell her about her day and her friends, but she would just have to settle with a text tonight. She knew that most of the time, after matches like this, her mom would be going to a late dinner party. These parties would go on long through the night, and had lots of other pro duelists attending, even Maximilian Pegasus had been at a couple of them.

Yuni felt lonely on those days when her mom was away due to her profession, but now, Yuni was the one far away, and she wondered if her mom feels the same way she did then and now. Watching her mom on TV made her think about how far away she was from her and gave her a feeling of homesickness, but she would watch and cheer her mom on as usual. 'I'll become a pro and make you proud mom. I promise.' Yuni thought determinedly before hearing her PDA dinging to let her know she's getting a text message.

She looked down at the screen to see that it was Lori sending her and Yuuchi messages in a group chat she made for them. Yuni smiled at the messages of Lori saying how their group should have a name and her multiple suggestions she kept sending. Each time she did though, Yuuchi would send a simple "No", shutting her suggestions down and making Yuni laugh.

Yuni knew she would feel homesick every now and then due to her not being able to see her mom for a long time, but she had made friends that would help take her mind off of it.

Yuni spent the rest of the night texting her friends and watching her mom duel, all the while wondering what the school year would have in store for her.

End of Chapter 2.

Author's Notes:

1) We see the debut of Lori's deck. When coming up with it, I wanted to make an archetype with a win condition similar to Exodia since we don't see decks like that often. So, I made it so that if Amber the Rockstar has all 4 Rockin' trap cards equipped to her, that wins you the duel.

2) On the topic of my custom cards. They are all available to look at and use on

3) The next following chapters will be like the anime, where it starts off showing how life at the academy goes, and the wacky hijinks that occur. I will be doing some chapters with an original plot, and some others will be what happened in an episode of GX but slightly changed somehow.
