Chapter 24:Nightshade
October 5th mount justice 8:43am
It was a few days after the events of the injustice league attacking the world. With the team all enjoying a nice day off from the crime and bustle of the world. Though right now they all were given accommodations by their mentors and other heroes for a job well done right now. With them getting a couple days off to boot as well which was a complete godsend
Though right now after the last few days deliah had questions in her head more like a lot of them. Because ever since that day in the bayou she got to thinking on what that rose women told her. Along with that how she acted that night because it confused her right now on what was truly going on.
Because how she phrased it to her it sounded like she knew her as something weird was happening. That being some small flashes in her head of someone, some teenager or whatever talking with her. More like beating her down with her words along with seeing someone face for a moment like she knew them as she was in her room rubbing her head trying to wrap her head around it.
"Who the heck are you ladies? I mean….why did you even say that….who are you?"Deliah said aloud to herself walking over to something
That being the card picking it up staring at the deep shade of white nightshade flower staring at it for a long moment
"Who the heck is nightshade?"She questioned again before someone knocked on her door right now startling her for the moment
"Heyya D! You up you've been locked in your room for the last two days' 'wally said on the other end as quickly deliah pocketed the card sighing walking over opening it to reveal the speedster right now.
"Nothing much just tired is all that fight knocked the wind out of me….what's up"She asked
"Ohhh you know, wondering if you wanna join us for breakfast. "He replied
"Sure let's go"she replied as the two headed off for breakfast right now.
But inside the kitchen right now was artemis who came by for a visit right now eating some over easy eggs. While m'gann was humming as she cleaned up the kitchen with ghost scampering around growling playing tug of war with wolf who was much bigger than the pup
But the canine tugged slightly knocking the pup down but the ghost got up yipping as he nibbled on the wolf leg. With wolf gently picking him up by his fur then placed him down scratching his leg with artemis laughing
"Cute how the big bad wolf here is friends with this whittle face"artemis cooed as m'gann sighed
"Well come canines from the book i read did come from wolves back in the day. Maybe their bonding over their shared genetics"she suggested but artemis just thought it was dogs being dogs before she stared at the martian humming for a moment
"Well does that mean you and deliah sharing spit count as genetics"She said suddenly making the green girl go slightly red in the face before she composed herself very quickly
"i…i…um…well…uh…"She stammered her word with the archer sighing
"Relax I won't tell a soul besides it's cute how you two finally worked the courage up….jinny gave me the deets"artemis ratted out the cowgirl
This made the martian look down below where the parking garage was right now. As working on a motorbike together was jinny and conner right now with her noticing something. That being how close jinny is getting to the clone kryptonian for a moment before grinning for a brief moment keeping that to herself knowing how much of a thing the archer had for him
"Well him and jinny seem to be getting along well"m'gann commented with artemis peeking down at the sight rolling her eyes
"Big deal their into motorbikes or whatever but….lets hope she doesn't take a piece of the superboy"artemis jokes
"Really? No one else peak your interest here"m'gann asked with the blonde thinking for a moment as wally popped into her head before she shook her head deciding to not think about that as she replied
"Nope no one else besides look whos joining us"she said
As zipping in was wally beginning to gather a plate full of food right now with him starting to eat it right now humming in delight
"I forgot how good your food is beautiful"he said with a grin right now as deliah walked in growling right now getting sick of that for a moment before taking a deep breath as she walked to sit down sighing for a moment fixing herself a plate but ghost sense her worries
Running over the pup yipped tugging on her pant leg as she reached down petting his fur for a brief moment sighing
"Heyya buddy it's all good….you want bacon"deliah asked as the pup yipped and yipped trying to get her to pet him with artemis noticing her current demonor
"Are you good over here? You've been cooped up in that room for the last three days"artemis questioned with the teen looking away for a brief moment
"I'm hiding nothing, jeez artemis chill out like the bird wonder or should I say dick grayson '' Deliah said while eating some food as Wally had a spoon in hand but stared at her for a moment. Before he zipped over and quickly emerged infront of her
"Really then what's this?"he asked presenting something that being the calling card that rose left making deliah go wide eyed right now seeing that
"Hey! I umm….well uh…uhhhh…."she paused for a moment right now with m'gann looking at her girlfriend wondering if she was hiding something from them right now
"Are you hiding something from us?"m'gann asked making the white haired teen pause for a moment sighing as she needed to tell them about it
"Okay look that day in the bayou when i was fighting with that assassin she….said some weird stuff to me"deliah said making them stare at her weirdly with artemis eyeing her friend for a brief moment as she crossed her arms
"That would be what?"artemis questioned with the teen pausing for a brief moment as she held her head
"She…left me some weird card and….called me…her…sister"deliah answered hesitantly trusting them right now wondering what will happen. There was a brief moment of silence right now as wally gave a puzzled look as he bite into an apple right now rubbing his chin
"That's weird…i mean….i thought you mentioned having only your baby sisters that were from your stepdad"wally replied as that was true but she thought of something
"Yeah but maybe she has connections to my old dad…I mean…it's a far stretch but there's no way I'm related to that chick. She must be playing mind games on me while we fought''deliah replied but artemis thought for a moment as she sighed
"Well maybe we should check this out because this card is weird"artemis said eyeing it as m'gann was a little against it
"It could be very dangerous if we investigate this without the league permission"m'gann said but wally zipped away before coming back in his super suit with him crossing his arms having a confident look on his face
"Not the first time we broke the rules besides i think i know where we can start."wally said surprising them with them deciding to go on a little outing right now together for the evening
Star city october 5th 3:37pm
After zetaing to their destination they arrived in star city home to a certain green themed archer. But right now they exited to what seems to be a lavish looking safehouse right now stocked up with some weapons. With deliah passing by some containing a few explosions in it as she looked puzzled
"Whose place is this the army?"She asked
"Nope try my uncle green arrow"artemis said hesitating on the words for a bit it seems
As wally stretched his back out"yeah it's great besides i know where we can go it's not that far from the zeta tube here"wally replied
"Okay but why are we in star city"m'gann questioned as the red hair speedster grinned
"Duh to check on the scientist here they;ve been researching her powers right? Maybe a connection their or whatever"Wally suggested as they thought about it for a moment as it was a solid lead right now as they thought he was super dumb
"I thought you were dumb but you're smart"deliah quipped

Star labs october 5th 4:02pm
It took some time but with the help of the speedster they quickly got to the lab of the city. That being a three story building with it having glass windows and a large sign of a star in it with the city name on it. Along with that having a fence off gate around it with wally letting his compatriots go as deliah heaved a little
"I feel like i'm gonna hurl"She said
Artemis wobbled for a moment"Well thank the kid dork for that….besides lets get inside and do some light snooping"she said with m'gann flying down as they approached the gate with a guard stopping them
"Hold up no….whoa what are you doing here"the guard said stopping himself seeing the super teens as wally zipped over quickly waving to him
"Heyya buddy old pal just here to ask some questions for good old doc. He in?"wally asked with the guard laughing for a moment
"He sure is along with that special guest of ours to go right in. i'll buzz him to let you know your here"the guard said opening the gate as they stepped in with a couple surprised
"So being a superhero does have its perks"deliah stated
"It sure does mean we can get into anywhere. But not in a bad sense besides maybe we can get a souvenir from this"Wally said with a grin as they stepped inside of the grand lab right now
It took some time navigating the winding and bright white colored hallways of the lab right now. But they managed to reach a certain room right now. That being a large and spacious room with it having enough space to even be a training area right now. Though it was rather empty as a couple people where their
The first being a man in his late thirties in appearance along with that having fair skin along with brown hair slicked back. Along with having black eyes behind a pair of glasses for him to see. While he sported a pair of brown dress pants and a light blue sweater under a white lab coat
By his side was another man in his late thirties along with having an argentine appearance with black hair and brown eyes. While he had a black mustache sporting a blue dress shirt and black dress pants underneath a white lab coat
Though there was a familiar face there that being jinx who was moved here from the jail on her crimes. Along with changing her attire into a pair of blue jeans with holes ripped throughout it alongside a pair of short bright purple heeled pumps. While she wore a black, pink and purple striped long sleeve crop top with her hair looking much cleaner
This surprised m'gann"jinx!"she called out on instinct but covered her mouth as the three looked over with the super powered teen smiling running over hugging the martian right now
"It's you guys, it's so nice to see you again!"She cheered as the martian returned it as the man in glasses laughed
"Now dear be careful we all know that you know of our esteemed guest it seems from what the guard told me"the man said
"Well mr. hamilton we just wanted some questions answered is all"kid flash said quickly
"Please call me emil and i'm sure you remember eduardo"emil said with eduardo offering a hand shaking deliah for a moment
"Well i'm glad to meet some new faces right now but we are in the middle of training our esteemed guest and her powers."eudardo said poking some interest as jinx released the martian
"How's it coming along with your powers actually?"m'gann asked with jinx snapping her fingers before suddenly wally stumbled backward falling onto his back groaning rubbing his head seeing his shoes lace undone for his boots
The teen smirked"better than before but still not the best…i can still…flare up at times"she admitted as emil stepped forward
"It's a part of the process my dear besides it's nice to have some visitors. Now tell me what bring you here let me guess a new virus is running amuck"he said but they paused for a moment as artemis took initiative
"We wanted to see how your research on my friend here is going along with her powers"Artemis said getting straight to the point to the scientist
"Gladly follow me to the lab. We found some interesting results, '' Eduardo said as they followed him with a jinx joining in. After some walking they wound up in a lab filled to the brim with science equipment along with some beakers and chemicals layed around the place right now. As they were all inside wally whistles at the sight
"This place is nice though…..i wouldn't mind being in a place like this when i get older"wally admitted
"You're more than welcome to my boy. But give me a second to find that little document we can tell you the news"Emil said digging through some files as he did wally eyed m'gann for a moment taking this moment to hit on her yet again
"So miss M what do you think of star city? I prefer central city more since its beautiful they're just like you"Wally said making her feel a little more uncomfortable right now
"Uhhhh well wally i umm….uhhh…"she paused with jinx accidentally blurting something out right now to the red haired speedster
"You know she swapped spit with this one here right?"jinx said pointing at the person she kissed that being deliah who stared at her with a stunned look right now of betrayal. As wally was caught off guard by that right now before staring at the two teammates of his right now
With deliah looking very red in the face from what her friend just said to the speedster. Along with the martian who skin went from green to a little shade of red with wally jaw dropping in complete shock right now then whines right now
"You gotta be kidding me…you two? A thing?"he said aloud making the two embraced with artemis just smugly laughing right now at the face he made
"Oh…oh the face you just made is priceless….ohhhh this is just cute"artemis said whipping a tear away even with the speedster being down for a moment before bouncing back
"Well now i feel like a complete jerk for hitting on her"wally said to much surprise right now to the teen girls right now on his reaction
"Whattttt"deliah said very much surprised and even baffled by his own reaction with artemis wondering if he was replaced by someone
"Are you the real kid flash…take the mask off"She said pinching his cheek making him yelp as he held it before smacking her hand away glaring at her for a moment
"Hey i may be a little obnoxious at times but if you told me you're into girls like she was i'd back off. Besides…"he paused before a cocky grin came onto his face
"Hex is still on the table i'm sure"he said with internally all three laughed at that as emil walked over producing a document right now labeled with deliah codename on missions as he opened it with him reading it to them
"From what we've gathered your powers in a way are similar to revenant but in the same sense they are not"Emil said making them shot him a look
"Wait how are they similar if their not the same type"m'gann asked with eduardo stepping forward placing something under a microscope as he adjusted for a moment then stepped to the side
"Take a look here"he said with artemis walking over examining it with a surprised look. She saw that her friends cells had that same blue haze around it like it was radiating off her of blood cells as she took a step back
"Huh their…glowing is this her blood?"artemis asked
"Indeed it is. From what we've gathered it seems these powers of yours are bioluminescent. One way they're sort of alive and from my research and understanding. It might date back to a long time ago from what we've researched"emil said pulling out a picture of something a old looking tablet that depicted a haze coming off of someone cladded in ancient armor making deliah look confused
"Wait…so i got these powers….because of what my blood or heritage"she questioned with eduardo and emilia pausing sharing a brief look together before he packed the file up locking it back up into a nearby draw
"In a way yes but it seems to stem from some ancient tablet. My guess you must have stumbled upon something like that years ago. We still need to do some research if you please. We need to discuss something. Wait here"he said as him and eudardo stepped to the side
As he did artemis got suspicious for a moment as she walked over quickly out a PDA she carried for a moment scanning it as wally noticed her
"What's up artemis? You finding this a little…weird too"he asked as it was obvious
"Duh…besides i think we need to make a visit to someone you know wraith"artemis said with wraith nodding eyeing the scientist
"What about them?"She questioned with jinx smirking
"I can handle them incase they question or come after you when you leave…go now"jinx said with the four teen heroes running off just in time for when the two researchers came back
"Oh they are leaving is something wrong?"eduardo questioned
"They had something important to do is all…besides i wanna keep practicing with my powers come on"She said dragging them away though emil stared at his phone as he sent a text to someone saying"be on your guard"the text said warning someone
Gotham city 6:53pm
After taking another zeta tube this time the team found themselves on top of a nearby rooftop on where Artemis dragged them. That being a rooftop overlooking the home of deliah family right now with wraith scratching her head
"Why are we at my house?"she questioned for a moment
"It's obvious they know something and last I checked I'm too paranoid for my own good. Besides….might as well check to see the family maybe tell them about you two being a thing"artemis teased making the two girls stare at her
"Please don't and please don't tell the rest of the team where uh not ready yet"m'gann said as wally put his hand over his chest
"Cross my heart besides let's go in civilian attire easier this way"wally said as they made a quick costume change. Once inside they made it past the guards with delilah knocking on the door as it opened to reveal daphne their who jumped hugging her sister
"Sissy"she quietly said as deliah smiled back hugging her
"Heyya baby sis…mom and dad here?"She asked before someone laughed
"No but I am. I'm stuck living in your house for babysitter duty"barbara spoke up with them surprised to see her as the police chief daughter eyed wally for a moment
"And you are?"She asked
"Wally west the greatest and handsome hunk of the world"wally said with the red head rolling her eyes welcoming them in as they sat down seeing the place empty
"So let me guess the parents of the lovely home are off on a date?"artemis asked
"Yeah, they're at a dinner event with my dad and your mom. She became good friends of the police chief funny enough"barbara said with artemis internally hoping something doesn't get brought up as they got inside daphne ran toward the tv to play with some toys right now
"Wheres amy?"deliah asked where her other sister was
"Over there doing her homework"Barbara said pointing at Amy who was snoring right now fast asleep with a blanket over her right now as they found it cute.
"Cute but….we kinda need to check out miss nikos bedroom where is it"Wally said confusing the girl thinking he was a perv
"You gonna try and steal my friends mom undies weirdo"she growled but it was the opposite
"More like see if her mom has a connection with her powers….besides question for you does the name nightshade ring a bell"artemis questioned with the teen pausing for a moment before snapping her fingers grabbing her laptop quickly going into the police database finding a hit
"Yeah it does a crook from back in who was a small-time supervillain and assassin. She was rumored to be apart of the league of shadows''barbara explained
"League of what?"m'gann said playing dumb right now as they knew of them
"A big time assassin guild led by rasalghul. He's very mysterious only known as the demon's head but says here she was one of them. Alongside that rumors went around about her being very romantically involved with someone by the name of deathstroke''barbara said turning her computer around to show them something
That being a woman in a set of full body suits along with being colored pure white in color along with having black lining it. It complimented her curves with some knee pads and elbow pads on. Along with a utility belt with her sporting a pair of knee high boots colored black. Along with having a mask that represented an oni mask colored pure white with having black eyes and teeth with horns to match.
"Okay creepy lady in a mask….what's her deal?"Wally questioned with barbara pausing for a moment
"Well says here she was a well known assassin for killing people. But says here about…seventeen years ago she went off the grid then rumors went around that she left deathstroke disappearing into nothing after faking her death. Rumor went around she had a kid"she said but that made deliah stop to think for a moment eyeing her parents room in their apartment
"Hold on,"She said, walking over as they stared at her. Opening the door to her parents room it was a simple room with a queen size bed for two. Along with some gray sheets on it with a pillow neatly arranged. There was also a dresser there with an adjacent bathroom on the side. Along with some pictures of her mother Katherine with her new husband phillip. But she eyed something else the underside of the bed
Walking over joining her was artemis and wally right now with him kneeling by her side
"What are you doing here? You paused and went in here for some reason"he said but she ignored him feeling the underside of the bed pulling something out that being a metallic case which she recalled from long ago
With her eyeing the case before feeling around for the card as she pulled it out seeing a small slot on it. Seeing it with hesitation she slipped it into the slot of the case hoping it doesn't beep but…it made a loud beeping noise catching them off guard
As she slowly undid the case latches she pulled it up before all three of their eyes went wide. Right inside of the case was something strange that being a pair of throwing knives along with a gun holster carrying a silenced pistol. There were even old books and pictures in the case as one thing caught her eyes. That being a similar style mask that nightshade wore herself
There was a very long brief pause of silence right now as wally stood up with a horrified look right now
"I…i…thats a….uhhh we…we need to call the league we gotta call them"wally said with a worried tone making deliah stare at him with tears about to break from her eyes
"Wait…but..but….my…m-mom…my mom can't be a murderer…i…i….i….i'm gonna be sick"deliah said feeling queasy as artemis quickly helped her up heading to a nearby trash can that she hung over as she opened her mouth puking her guts out at the thought of her own mother killing someone.
Once it settled for now they were silent for a moment before long the sound of footsteps were heard. As walking in was someone who spoke up surprised right now
"What are you doing here? ''a female voice said as the three looked over to see Katherine there in a sleeveless black dress reaching her knees along with showing some cleavage. But the three stood on guard with wally getting ready to run right now as artemis tried to hide the case
"Oh uh miss nikos just well…hmmm we are just…."She paused for a moment with katherine seeing what they had out before looking at her daughter for a moment hesitating as she slowly walked over
"I…i…baby…i…just….i…you didn't see what was in their did you"she asked worried right now reaching to touch her daughter but she slapped her hand away with a horrified look
"You…your….you're a murderer…you…you….you're a murderer"she said feeling very betrayed as phillip came running inside to the room with a horrified look as m'gann was by his side with the man scanning the room before shoving her in as he locked the door with artemis getting on the defensive
"Okay buddy two seconds to let us go or the league will be on you in mere seconds"she warned with m'gann eyes glowing green but phillip had other things in mind
"Look…i…look i know this looks bad but….this isn't as bad as you think"he said making them confused
"Bad as we think? We just found evidence of her being nightshade…an assassin for the league of shadows! Boy blunder told me how bad these guys are their someone you don't mess with"wally said in anger with katherine looking down in shame for a moment clutching her chest for a moment as the women began to shed a small bit of tears saying something
"I…i…it wasn't my choice….i…i had no choice"she said making m'gann keep on her guard
"Your choice? From what i'm seeing your a supervillain and a wanted criminal"m'gann argued but phillip made sure the door was locked so barbara didn't hear them as he sighed heavily
"Look i…i…your mother had no choice in that life it was something she was raised in"philip said making deliah stare at her parents in complete shock as she took heavy breaths choking on small sobs
"What that my mom is a dam murderer"she said as the haze surrounded her for a moment scaring them for a moment as it looked like it was lashing out for a moment with artemis staring at her
"Hey take it easy before you blow up this place"she said as katherine stared at her daughter for a moment reaching out to embrace her
"Sweetie i…i….i know this seems bad but i left that life behind me years ago"katherine said as deliah growled at her mother shoving her back into a wall with the blue haze around here getting bigger right now as she was anger what she just found out
"What?! That you're a damn murderer! What don't tell me you wanted to be some dumb little pawn of yours! A little pawn to help you murder more people!"She shouted getting in her face as katherine looked down with a heartbroken look as she snapped
"No! The main reason I'm even here is because I left your dirtbag of a father who tried to do what that bastard ra's al ghul did to me!''she shouted in her face as something happened. From the women bodie a white haze like glow came off her stunning them for a moment with deliah backing up a little right now as her mother seemed to show a different side of her
"I am not ever returning to that life ever again! Right now I left that madman of a father of yours to give you a better life. Something that i've tried to do since you've awaken your powers…my…my powers"katherine said slowly realizing what was happening as she calmed herself down with them all going silent
"Wait…you…you left…as in left the league of assassins?"artemis questioned very surprised it seems as phillip sighed
"She did uhh dear i…look sweetie we…wanted to wait to tell you but we…"phillip paused for a moment as deliah scoffed getting up wiping the tears away as she shoved past her parents right now
"I..i need to process this i…i'm going…i'm going back to the cave ...don't…don't call me"deliah said with tears running down her face to her mother's heartbreak right now as wally and m'gann followed suit. But as artemis left she felt someone grab her arm which was katherine
"Let me go or i–"she was stopped as she said something to her
"Your mother told me who you are girl….i suggest you watch out for my daughter safety or else….i'll tell them who you really are. Who your father and sister are"katherine warned making artemis go wide eyed before silently nodding to her sealing a new pack as deliah was heartbroken to hear who her mother really was.
It seems that deliah learned who her mother really was a league of assassin member with wally figuring out that miss martian was already taken. Though how will katherine tell her daughter about her past as she blackmails artemis on her true life and who her family really is. Thanks for reading!
