Welcome one, welcome all!

Chapter 2 Bear hunting
Forks
"Calgary, Canada?"
"Yup, we're on our way now. This is so exciting!"
Bella nodded, though Evelyn wasn't capable of seeing that. Truth was Bella felt rather upset. When the phone rang and she heard her cousin's voice from the other side, her heart jumped with joy. But when it was clear this was merely an update on their next travel destination instead of a 'we're coming home' call, the young Swan girl couldn't bring herself to respond enthusiastically despite trying.
"I'm glad you're having so much fun."
It stayed quiet for a few seconds. A delay or had Evelyn picked up on Bella's true feelings through the phone? A delay most likely as she suddenly spoke up again.
"I miss you, Bella. I'm sorry I wasn't there for your graduation. Did your dad take pictures?" Evelyn asked.
"He did. It wasn't that interesting anyway. Lots of people clapping, speeches being held." She let out a short chuckle, hoping to sound a bit more cheerful this time.
"Still, I'll make it up to you. I'm definitely coping very well. That unexpected visit from those little kids was proof enough, I'd say. I'm certain I'll be a hundred percent in control by the time you and Edward get married."
Bella huffed. "That's easy, considering I'm not getting married until you get your butt back in Forks."
"Don't be silly."
""I'm not. After all that has happened it would be pointless to have the wedding without you, besides,- I doubt Edward wants one without the presence of Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett."
Evelyn laughed. "Now that I know to be a lie. Edward would much rather get married right now than wait for our return."
"Is that Evy?"
Alice Cullen suddenly appeared right beside Bella, her eyes wide and a big smile plastered on her face. She waved her hands at her soon to be sister-in-law, who had nearly dropped the phone from shock.
"Geez, Alice!" The girl exclaimed loudly. "A little subtlety would have been nice."
"Sorry. Can I talk to her?"
Bella sighed and turned her attention back her cousin. "Alice wants to talk to you."
Evelyn started to laugh. "That's okay, I'll call you soon. Bye, Bella."
"Bye, Eve." She managed to say just as Alice took the phone from her hand without warning.
"Thank you." Alice smiled. "Hi, Evy, I see you're enjoying Calgary…"
Bella shook her head and turned around, heading to Edward's bedroom. She didn't like it that everything had been so quiet lately. No more jokes with Emmett, no weird glares from Rosalie, no Jasper to control her moods and worst of all no Evy to talk to and share her thoughts and feelings with.
Thankfully Alice was still there, along with Esme and Carlisle, though the later two seemed to be missing the others just as much. Edward hardly seemed to care at all, nor did Alice. Perhaps because they're minds were occupied elsewhere, namely the upcoming wedding.
"Bella…?" Edward stood in front of Bella at the top of the stairs. She hadn't even noticed him. "Are you alright, love?" He asked me with a worried expression, but then again, he always worried about her.
"Evy called, they're in Calgary at the moment."
Edward frowned with surprise. "Calgary? They're taking her on a history tour, so it would seem."
"A history of the Cullens." Bella mumbled.
Edward pulled his soon to be wife into a hug and kissed her forehead. "They'll be home soon. And when they are…" He lifted her chin with his finger. "We'll get married and I'll show you the world."
"And then you'll change me, right?"
As soon as she spoke those words Edward sighed deeply. It was an endless cycle between them. Bella wanting to change as soon as possible and Edward trying his hardest to convince her they had more than enough time. She would miss her human life, certain aspects of it at least. The way Evelyn reacted when she discovered Carlisle had bitten and turned her into a vampire, that was something Edward could never erase from his mind.
Noticing his unease, Bella simply smiled and placed her hands against his chest. "Okay I'm sorry I won't talk about it…this time, I promise."
"Don't make a promise you can't keep, my sweet." Edward said with a grin which then was followed by a quick kiss on her lips.
Calgary, Canada
A groan of frustration escaped her throat. Evelyn dropped the phone on the table and plopped down onto one of the chairs. That conversation with Bella had been going just fine until Alice decided to get in between and that talk had gone absolutely nowhere. In fact, she felt incredibly annoyed.
"…Violet colour, it will look great on you! And it totally matches Bella's wedding dress! I just love weddings, don't you?" Then she had giggled and said. "Perhaps I shouldn't have said that…"
"Alice…"
"I know weddings can be frightening but trust me you'll be fine, I'm not implying anything… no pressure."
"Alice, I'm hanging up now. Please give my love to Edward, Esme and Carlisle. Oh and tell him that I'm doe with the journal and no, I won't be doing the 4th test!"
"Are you sure about that?" Alice had replied.
Hoping wholeheartedly that Alice was joking, Evelyn sighed. No pressure, weddings can be frightening, I'm not implying anything…
A shiver ran down her spine. Curse Alice and her ways of making her nervous about things that aren't even happening. No doubt this was all some form of weird entertainment for her.
"Evy, I'm going out for a little hunt do you want to join me?" Rosalie asked appearing in the kitchen.
A distraction was very welcome at the moment. The last thing Evelyn wanted to think about was weddings, dresses and Alice implying it wouldn't only be Bella tying the knot soon. Because that was exactly how Alice had made things sound.
"Yes, please! I am in no mood to sit here and wait for the others to return."
With the others she meant Jasper and Emmett, who were both out at the moment, but not on a hunt for dinner. No, they were in search of a new car. Not that there was any need for it, but somehow Emmett had gotten it into his head that it was something they desperately needed. A token to remember their time together over the last couple of months. Rosalie didn't care for it and neither did Evelyn.
"Any interesting news from back home?" Rosalie asked as she shut the door behind her.
Evelyn shook her head. "Nothing important really. Bella is nervous about the wedding, but she's adamant on waiting until we return. And Alice told me about our bridesmaid dresses."
Rosalie groaned. "It's going an awful colour isn't it? Like pink with a big red ribbon."
Oh, the horror. "Even if that was the case, it would still look good on you, Rose."
Rosalie was annoyingly beautiful. Extremely gorgeous! She could put on a plastic bag for a dress and it would become the latest fashion trend. Out of all the immortal beings Evelyn had encountered in this world, not that that were many, no doubt she was the most beautiful one of all. But Rosalie could care less, though her smirk implied she was wholly aware of her good looks.
Rosalie shrugged. "Doesn't matter I'm not wearing something like that even if it still looks good on me."
After a minute or two, both girls stopped in the middle of the forest. Tracks were visible in the muddy ground. A bear from the look of it and as they looked up, they spotted the creature in the distance. But it wasn't alone. Two of them. Equal in size and shape. Not too big, but not too small. Evelyn looked at Rosalie, who in turn looked back at her. One bear per person. It was perfect.
But as they made plans to approach the animals, neither of them were aware of another creature lurking nearby. Far out of sight, too far for them to smell him or see him, whilst he had the perfect view from his position.
He watched quietly as the scene unfolded before him. The one with the blonde hair was going to take the bear on the right, while the other one, with a slightly more golden colour would take the left one. Both bears had no clue what was coming, they were too busy with each other fighting over their territory.
The silent watcher remembered what he had been told. A vegetarian diet. No human blood. Something he couldn't comprehend, why would anyone prefer animal blood over that of a tasty human?
No matter, he wasn't here to observe this coven's dietary choices. He needed to get the girl alone. She was his ticket in. Once that had happened, new orders would surely come. But how was he going to get her alone?
"You take the right one and I'll take the left one." Evelyn said to Rosalie having her eyes already set on the bigger one of the two.
Rosalie growled. "If this is about the cougar from two days ago…"
The other girl huffed, maybe it was a little bit about that, but the chances of her admitting that to Rosalie was highly unlikely. She had gone out of her way to lure that delicious cougar towards her when all of a sudden Rosalie had the nerve to throw herself on Evelyn's prey. Normally she would have let it go, but her self-control was completely off the rails when it came to sharing food.
"You want to switch?" She suggested but Rosalie shook her head.
"The right one will do, it's younger so the blood is much nicer." She smirked devilishly and stuck out her tongue.
Curses…
Both girls crawled forward, Evelyn first, followed closely by Rosalie. The latter was, unlike her husband Emmett, a dirty player.
Emmett usually just leaped forward and would throw himself against a creature. Some wrestling and playing with it would soon follow before he would sink his teeth in the animal. Not Rosalie, she secretly enjoyed scaring her 'victims'. But considering both bears current state, this was going to be a clean cut kill. No time for playing games.
Rosalie arched her back indicating she was going to go for her prey first. Evelyn paid her no mind as she kept her gaze on her own prey. The other girl jumped on top of the black bear on the right and held on tight as it stood on its hind legs.
At the same time Evelyn rushed forward and stopped right in front of the other bear.
"Don't move!" She said and immediately the bear blinked and stood dead in its tracks.
A shriek sounded from behind her and Evelyn caught a quick sight of Rosalie being thrown off the black bear's back.
"Do you need a hand?" Evelyn grinned as stepped closer to her own meal and nonchalantly leaned against its side.
Rosalie growled. "You just focus on your bear statue and let me have a work out."
She ran away from and the bear followed her. Evelyn shook her head, turning her attention back to her prey. It was rather lazy behaviour on her end, she had to admit. Persuading her preys into a standstill, instead of truly hunting them.
Maybe she should stop doing this and focus on learning the way Jasper and the others hunted. She was strong enough, wasn't she?
Taking a step back, she released the black bear from its trance. It didn't react immediately, almost as if it was confused of what had just happened. Then it noticed the person in front of him and a fierce growl came from its throat.
Some type of rush ran through Evelyn and she smirked at the creature. Evading the bear's claw, unfortunately her sleeve was less lucky and the sound of tearing fabric filled her ears.
"Oops." She jumped back and beckoned a finger at it. "Come and get me Mister Bear."
The bear charged and Evelyn easily vaulted over it as it crashed into the tree. A crack sounded but no severe damage was done to the tree. That was just about enough. Evelyn jumped on its back, wrapped her arms around the bear's neck and snap it. Who would have thought she would one day be standing in the middle of a forest. Killing bears with her bare hands for food. Evelyn blinked, unnecessarily, and looked at the dead animal. What had she become indeed, she thought as she sank her teeth into the bear's neck.
Suddenly she turned her head. There was an unfamiliar scent in the area. New. Not an animal. Or was it? It was hard to tell with the smell of blood tickling into her nose. She stood up and looked around. Not human either. Where was it coming from.
"Oh,-" She mouthed and it was gone. Whatever it was it must have run off. How odd. She tasted the air again, but it was really gone. However, she didn't feel at ease. Not human, not animal. It could only be one thing. Vampire.
It wouldn't take long for Evelyn to discover to identity of said person, but for now it was out of sight. Right on time.
The silent watcher had made the mistake of wanting to get a closer look, a foolish decision which had nearly caused him to reveal himself. But the damage had been down, she'd caught his scent, of that he was certain. He'd caught hers, making it more than obvious she had done the same.
Perhaps he could somehow use it to his advantage, but how he did not yet know. He needed to gather his thoughts first, to analyse what it was he had just seen. He still wasn't entirely sure what that had been. The girl could command creatures. Or bears at the very least.
He had been told she had a powerful gift, but he never would have expected something like this. Was it just bears or all animals? Or worse, what if she could command humans or the likes of him? He needed to take minute here.
Anger bubbled to the surface. Why hadn't that blasted Volturi told him about her ability? Had he withhold the information purposely or because he didn't know that much about it? Mentioning more details was the least he could have done. But this was what he did best. It wasn't the first time dealing with this specific Volturi and the pay was always good. Still, he would complain about this discovery later. For now it was time to return somewhere a little but safer and come up with a new game plan... maybe even a pair of sunglasses in case that's how her gift worked.
Who is this mysterious stranger?
Well, we know who he works for, don't we? But what is his plan exactly?
Sorry for the short chapter, already working on the 3rd chapter one!
Would love to hear your thoughts!
Don't worry, Jasper will return in the next one.
