Alec woke up and the first thing he noticed is the horrible crick he has in his neck. What time is it? How long has he been asleep? A small moan is what alerted him to what woke him up. Magnus. Abandoning the chair Alec comes up to the bed and sits down beside the warlock.
"Magnus! Can you hear me?"
The relief he felt when Magnus finally opened his eyes and gave him a small smile made all of his weariness from the night go away. Although still obviously very weak Magnus seemed to be in better shape.
Alexander. What are you still doing here?" The warlock asked. He seems surprised to see him.
"Well I couldn't just leave you and Luke in the state that you were in?" Alec replies. Did he really expect me to leave them alone like this?
"What happened? The last thing I remember was using my magic to keep Luke stable until Clary was able to finish the potion."
Of course he can't remember.
"They were able to feed it to Luke. Once you stopped using your magic you collapsed. I brought you to your bedroom to rest. You have been unconscious for about 8 hours."
Magnus takes that information with a nod. A wince came across his face as if he is suffering from a headache.
"Is Luke okay?"
"He is fine. Almost back to normal. He's asleep in your guest bedroom."
"I need to go check on him." Magnus makes a move to get up to Alec's surprise. The man just practically came out of a coma and he is wanting to move around.
"Are you sure you are ready to get up? You have been asleep for a long time?" Alec says. He stands up from the bed to assist if needed.
If looks could kill Alec would have fell over right there.
"I'm the high warlock of Brooklyn. I can handle a little magic exhaustion." HIs voice yet slightly weak has a tone of sass.
Like he suspected the warlock made it about 4 steps from the bed before his knees buckled underneath him. Expecting this result Alec was close enough to catch the stubborn smaller man. What little color that had came back to Magnus' face was gone and he looked like he was going to pass out again.
"Woah, easy. I've got you." Alec says as he scooped the still dizzy man into his arms and brought him back to the bed moving the pillows behind him so that he is sitting more upright.
"Again I don't think it is smart for you to get up right now. You are still recovering." Alec says. He can hear the worry in his own voice. Why is he pushing himself so hard?
"I guess you were right." The sentence comes out hoarsely. Magnus has been asleep for a long time. He has to be at least thirsty if not hungry. He kicks himself inside for not thinking of it sooner.
"You must be thirsty. I'll get you something to drink."
Alec makes his way to the kitchen. He looks through the cabinets and find the normal kitchen appliances and cookware as well as what looks to be equipment for potion making. He finally finds the cabinet that contains drinking glasses. Taking two glasses he goes to the sink and fills them up with water, one for Magnus and one for Luke. He had pretty much forgotten about the werewolf. He seemed to be in better shape thanks to Magnus. Luke was at least awake and talking before Magnus even woke up. Alec decides that since Magnus was so worried about Luke that he would take this opportunity to check on him.
A couple of doors down from Magnus' room Alec peaks his head into the room. Luke is laying on the bed still asleep. He approaches and sees that he is breathing normal and looks to be in pretty good shape considering the trauma his body has went through tonight. It's crazy to say but Alec is glad that Luke is going to be okay. He doesn't know Luke well but he doesn't want to see anyone get hurt, much less die. Luke was protecting them when he got hurt so he does gain his respect for that. It is probably better to just let the man sleep the rest of it off. So he sits the cup of water on the side table and leaves the door open just in case Luke needs him.
Entering the room he sees that Magnus is already looking better than he did a few minutes ago. Magnus looks up at him like he brought him out of his thoughts.
"Here drink this." Alec says handing Magnus the cup of water.
"Thanks." Magnus grabs the cup with shaking hands, almost spilling the contents all over himself and the bed. Stupid Alec he should have known.
"Here, let me help you" Alec takes the cup from the trembling hands and put the cup to his lips. Magnus drinks about half of the cup before pulling away.
"Thank you but you didn't have to do that" Magnus says if not a little embarrassed.
"You're welcome" Alec says as he sits the glass on the side table well within reach of the warlock.
"I went and checked on Luke for you. He's still sleeping and seems to be healing okay."
"That's nice to hear. At least my work wasn't for nothing." Magnus says with a hint of humor.
Alec couldn't help but chuckle at this. Even in a time of weakness Magnus still had a moment of humor and sass. That's one of the things that he liked about Magnus. He doesn't take everything as serious as the shadowhunters do. Even though Magnus is making jokes and looks better Alec can still tell that he is not completely recovered.
"Do you need anything else? More strength? Because you can have it." Alec asks, extended his hand out to Magnus.
"No, I will be fine with a little more rest and not using magic for a little while. Maybe a cocktail once I wake up again." Alcohol? Magnus has been awake for about 30 minutes and he is wanted some alcohol. Warlocks are an odd group of people aren't they? He wonders if all of them are like this.
Alec can see that Magnus is starting to tire again. He is hiding it well but has the tell signs of someone that is on the verge of sleep. Alec looks around the room.
"Here let me get you some more comfortable clothes to change into. Where do you keep them?"
"No need"
With that Magnus snaps his fingers and magically not only is Magnus' clothes changed but Alec is also. How did Magnus know what he wore to get comfortable and most importantly WHY did he do that? He shouldn't be using his magic. He runs over to the side of the bed and holds Magnus upright as the warlock sways.
"No Magnus. No more magic. Save your strength."
I couldn't just sit here in my dirty clothes any longer. Also since you have helped me so much I wanted you to be comfortable." Alec felt a pang of guilt. Did he really look the miserable?
Unfortunately, that act has taken just about all of my energy so I will probably pass out again any second so I am going to lay back down. You need to rest as well." His voice is barely a whisper.
"Would you like me to leave?" Alec implies. Not wanting to leave but giving the warlock the chance to say yes.
"No, please stay."
That was all Alec needed to hear. He nods his head in understanding. Rearranging the bed around Magnus Alec helps him lay back down. He can tell that Magnus is asleep again even before his head has hit the pillow. Alec looks at the sleeping warlock for a few minutes before going into the bathroom to clean himself up. Magnus was right. Now that he knows that both of his charges are going to be alright Alec needs to get sleep himself. He would make the trip back to the Institute but he promised Magnus that he would stay. Then he considered sleeping on the couch in the living room but the couch still has the blood on it that he couldn't clean up. The only other options was sleep in a bed with Magnus or Luke, or on the floor.
Not feeling comfortable enough to sleep in the same bed with either men, especially without their permission, Alec decided that the floor was the best option. He took a couple of pillows from Magnus' bed that he had used to prop him up and a blanket that he found in the living room and laid down on the shag rug that was at the foot of Magnus bed. Not knowing if the floor was really this comfortable or he was just this exhausted Alec fell asleep.
