AN: Takes place just before the Yule Ball during Goblet of Fire
Tonks, bundled up against the cold, strode confidently down the main road careful to avoid the obvious ice patches. She was dressed in a sharp, tailored midnight blue suit with subtle silver accents that hugged her frame perfectly. Her hair today was a vibrant shade of electric blue.
Tonks made her way through the village quickly, eager to meet Fleur. The other girl had been on her mind constantly. The days had been long and filled with worry about each task that Fleur would have to face throughout the tournament. Tonight was different though. Tonight was a chance to unwind and just enjoy each other's company.
The sign for the Three Broomsticks creaked gently in wind as Tonks pushed the door open to step into the warm pub. The sound of laughter and clinking glasses filled the air and the scent of butterbeer and roasted chestnuts brought Tonks back to the weekends she had spent here during her Hogwarts years.
Tonks scanned the room impatiently. Then finally, she saw her.
Fleur sat near the fireplace, her silver-blonde hair cascaded over her shoulders in soft waves that caught the firelight in a way that made her look ethereal. When Fleur's gaze met Tonks', her expression brightened.
Tonks grinned and made her way through the pub with only the occasional stumble. When she finally reached the table, Fleur stood, her eyes raked over Tonks with open appreciation.
"You look…magnifique," Fleur said, her voice soft and melodic, "I like that suit. You should wear suits more often."
Tonks fought back the blush that wanted to stain her cheeks, "I thought I'd try something different," she said and the way Fleur was looking at her made her feel like she had made the best decision of her life.
"You look stunning, as always," Tonks added and the joy that swirled in Fleur's eyes made Tonks' heart swell with affection.
Fleur gestured for Tonks to sit down, and they both took their seat. A few moments late Madam Rosmerta brought them two mugs of butterbeer and a large glass pitcher of water.
The couple sat in comfortable silence as they sipped at their drink and just enjoyed the pleasure of being close to one another after months of being apart. The noise of the pub faded into the background as Tonks focused on the feel of Fleur's hand in hers.
After a while, Fleur broke the silence, her usual confidence was nowhere to be found, "Do you think I made a mistake? Taking part in ze tournament?" she asked as he searched Tonks' face for the reassurance she craved.
Tonks set her mug down and pulled Fleur into a warm embrace. She pressed a kiss to Fleur's temple before her hand gently guided Fleur head up to lock eyes, "You are doing amazing. And you'll continue to be amazing. This tournament is brutal, but I've seen how strong you are, and I know that out of everyone, you can handle whatever comes next."
Fleur's gaze softened and she let out a deep breath that she hadn't even realized that she'd been holding, "Thank you, ma chérie," she whispered, her fingertips gently caressing Tonks' cheek.
Fleur then leaned forward and brushed her lips against Tonks' in a tender kiss. We they finally pulled back, the world seemed a little brighter, the weight of the tournament a little less heavy on Fleur's shoulders.
"We should head to Hogwarts," Tonks said when she noticed the time, "the ball will be starting soon."
Tonks stood up and offered her hand to Fleur with a playful smile, "Ready to make your grand entrance?"
Fleur giggled, took Tonks' hand and rose, "Avec toi? Toujours."
