Naruto walked into the academy after he had been led there by his adopted grandpa Hiruzen, who was on his way to an important meeting with the Hokage, Fugaku later that day. Naruto looked around having gotten there was a few people there, as he looked at each he thought about where he should start and where he should sit. He walked to one of the seats and stood towards the back of the classroom for a moment, taking it in. This was where he would learn to be a ninja.
Noticing a girl he had seen a few times during visits with his grandpa to the Hyuuga clan, Naruto rubbed the back of his neck and gave her a goofy smile. "Hi, Uzumaki Naruto. It's nice to meet you. You're Hyuuga Hinata, right?" he asked, giving her a warm, kind look.
Hinata blushed deeply as Naruto spoke to her, her fingers nervously tapping together. She hadn't expected him to approach her, especially on the first day. Looking up at him with wide, shy eyes, she managed a small nod.
"Y-Yes, I'm Hinata," she replied softly, her voice barely above a whisper. She glanced down at her feet, feeling both nervous and happy that he remembered her name. "It's...nice to meet you too, Naruto-kun."
Hinata gave him a timid smile, her cheeks still flushed pink, hoping he didn't notice how nervous she was.
Naruto smiled not really catching why Hinata gave him the timid smile, but he figured she was just a bit shy. He remembered talking to her for a brief bit at the Hyuuga compound during his visits with Hiruzen. "It is my pleasure, it is nice to see someone I have at least seen before, Hinata," he said with a smile as he looked at her.
He turned to look at the rest of the class, a number of people stood out to him, the serious looking dark-haired boy who was sitting near a pink haired girl, and a blonde who seemed rather interested in talking to him. Naruto looked and wondered if he should sit over there, but he didn't move. He just stood there still thinking about it.
A moment later, Naruto felt a hand on his wrist. "Why, um... don't you sit down here? I mean, I wouldn't mind, Naruto-kun," Hinata asked softly, looking up at him with a shy smile.
Naruto blinked in surprise, not expecting anyone to ask him to sit with them, let alone someone as nice as Hinata. "Uh, sure! Thanks, Hinata-chan!" he said with a big grin. He quickly sat down next to her, feeling a little nervous but mostly excited. "I bet this class is gonna be awesome!" he added, trying to play it cool even though his heart was racing a bit.
The room was filled with people. There was the pineapple head looking Shikamaru, Kiba and his dog, Choji, Shino, and others. They were all gathered as Iruka came into the room for the first day of what would be their first year at the academy. Naruto was so excited that he almost was bouncing in his seat.
"Hinata-chan, Gigi, tells me that Iruka is very serious, but he is a good teacher, that he can be kind of strict though too," Naruto whispered over to Hinata when he had the chance before class even got started.
Hinata listened to Naruto, nodding slightly as she tried to hide her nervousness. "I've heard that too. I-I'm sure he'll be a great teacher," she whispered back, her voice soft but filled with hope. She smiled shyly at Naruto, grateful for his friendly presence.
Naruto grinned, his excitement hardly contained. "Yeah! We're gonna learn so much cool stuff! I can't wait to start training and become the best ninja ever!" he whispered excitedly, his eyes shining with determination as he looked around the room at all the future ninja who would be his classmates.
"Class welcome, now I am your teacher, Umino Iruka, but you can call me Iruka," Iruka announced with a firm tone to his voice as he looked out at his students. He knew who all his students were from Fugaku's son Sasuke, to Hiruzen's virtually adopted son Naruto, and everyone else in between. To have two kids being raised by Hokage in his room was going to make this class challenging to teach, add in the heirs to most all the major clans, and he had his work cut out for him.
"Alright, let us introduce ourselves one by one, tell me your name, your dream, and your favorite thing?" Iruka said as he looked at the class before pointing to Sakura, "You go first."
Sakura stood up; her hands clasped nervously in front of her. "I am Sakura Haruno," she said announcing herself to the rest of the class. She had a confidence in her tone at least till she looked over at Sasuke. "My dream is to be a capable and strong kunoichi, and my favorite thing is to study and learn new things." As she finished, she sat down, her eyes looking at the cool Sasuke a moment longer before she did so.
Iruka nodded, smiling encouragingly. "Thank you, Sakura. Next," he said, pointing to the next student.
The introductions continued around the room, with each student sharing their dreams and favorite things. He learned a good bit about each person who went. He learned that Ino loved flowers and has a strong personality. He learned Shikamaru was a bit lazy and disliked making stuff hard. He learned that Choji had to have to have the last chip in the bag. He found it funny that Shino loved bugs so much and both Ino and Sakura's reaction to that fact. He learned Sasuke was a super serious type who really looked up to his family a lot. He learned about others too, as he listened carefully to each one as they went. Then it was finally his time one of the later ones because he sat at the back of the room.
When it was his turn, Naruto jumped to his feet, excited to introduce himself and talk about himself to his classmates. "I am Naruto Uzumaki," he declared loudly his thumb pointed back at himself. "My dream is to become the greatest Hokage ever, so everyone in the village will have to respect me! And my favorite thing is… ramen, especially the kind Gigi gets for me!" He finished with a confident nod, looking around the room as if daring anyone to challenge his dream.
Iruka smiled at Naruto's enthusiasm. "Thank you, Naruto. You have an impressive goal there. If you work really hard and don't give up, I am sure that you can pull it off someday," Iruka commented with a friendly tone before he looked over at the person next to him. "Okay, you're up next," he said to Hinata.
Hinata nervously stood up when it was her turn, her hands fidgeting with the edge of her sleeves. She glanced around the room, her eyes briefly meeting Naruto's before quickly looking away.
"M-my name is Hinata Hyuuga," she started, her voice soft and almost whispery. Hinata took a moment and took a deep breath as her eyes went back to Naruto and remembered how loud and confident he sounded. She then found her voice to some degree. "My dream is to be a strong and confident kunoichi. I want to be able to protect those people who are important to me. I like to garden and press flowers, for keeping," she said softly her voice louder but there was a insecurity present that Iruka could obviously notice.
Hinata's cheeks flushed as she quickly sat back down, glancing over at Naruto to see if he was paying attention. Naruto gave her an encouraging grin, making her heart race just a little bit faster.
Iruka nodded warmly at Hinata. "Thank you, Hinata. That's a wonderful dream and a great hobby. Alright, next up…" he continued, moving on to the next student as the introductions carried on.
Class moved passed the introductions and into the expectations and how class was going to be run that year. Naruto was having issues keeping focused on what was being said. His mind wandering off to random things or ideas he could to about with his new classmates. Naruto's daydreams caused him to quickly fall behind on writing the notes or rather a couple of the expectations they were all supposed to copy down on paper.
"Naruto-kun, um did you get those last note," Hinata whispered quietly and nervously as she noticed Naruto had zoned out and offered to let him look at her notes, while Iruka was taking a break, they were the rules of the class or the expectations as Iruka put it, and they were supposed to copy them down.
Naruto blinked as he was pulled from his daydream back into reality by Hinata's soft voice. He looked at her blinking as he noticed the stuff she had written, and then he looked at his mostly blank page in front of himself.
"Uh, no, I didn't get most of that," Naruto admitted, scratching the back of his head with a sheepish grin. "I think I kinda of just zoned out there for a few moments."
Hinata blushed slightly and nodded, pulling her notebook closer to him. "It's okay, Naruto-kun. Here, you can copy from mine. I've written down everything Iruka-sensei said."
Naruto eagerly glanced at her notes, trying to catch up on what he missed. "Wow, you've got really neat handwriting, Hinata-chan. Thanks a lot!"
Hinata smiled shyly, her cheeks still a bit pink. "You're welcome. I know it can be hard to keep up, especially on the first day."
Naruto nodded in agreement, focusing on copying down the rules and expectations Iruka had listed. As he worked, he felt grateful for Hinata's help and found himself feeling more at ease. He knew that he was going to have to work on that, on staying focused. He also had a feeling already this book stuff wasn't going to be his best area. He looked over and smiled, he had chosen well to sit here, he had a feeling that Hinata would be kind and help him out with this. That gave him confidence that he could do well in school.
Later, as Naruto stepped out of the academy, he couldn't help but feel a mix of pride and relief. The day had been a whirlwind of new faces and information, but he had managed to stay out of trouble, just as he promised Hiruzen.
He spotted his grandpa waiting for him near the entrance, a smile on his face. Naruto ran up to him, excitement in his voice.
"Gigi! I made it through my first day! I didn't get into any trouble, just like I promised!" Naruto said, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "I met a lot of new people, and I even made friends with Hinata-chan. She helped me with the notes and everything!"
Hiruzen chuckled, patting Naruto on the head. "That is great new Naruto-kun, you have done well. I am sure that you can continue this if you put your mind to it. Now, how was your new teacher, Iruka-san?"
"He seemed nice," Naruto said, his grin widening. "He even gave us a chance to introduce ourselves. Oh, and guess what? I think we're going to be doing some fun stuff soon. Iruka-sensei seems really cool."
Hiruzen nodded approvingly. "I'm glad you're settling in well. It sounds like you had a productive first day."
Naruto's eyes lit up with hope. "So, Gigi, since I didn't get into trouble and I had such a great day, can we go get ramen for dinner?"
Hiruzen smiled warmly. "I think that's a great idea, Naruto. Let's head to your favorite place and celebrate your first day at the academy."
Naruto blinked and grinned as he couldn't hardly contain his happiness. He loved ramen, and he was going to get some because he had a good first day. This day was the best in the eyes of the blonde boy.
As Naruto and Hiruzen walked to Ramen Ichiraku, the streets of Konohagakure felt alive with the energy of the village. Naruto's heart swelled with a sense of accomplishment and excitement. The prospect of his future as Hokage seemed so vivid and within reach that he could almost see it.
His mind raced with images of what he envisioned: himself standing proudly as Hokage, his grandpa Hiruzen, now retired and watching from a rocking chair, a proud smile on his face. Naruto could see his friends from the academy gathered around, cheering him on, and celebrating his achievements. The thought filled him with a warm, joyful anticipation.
"Gigi, do you think I'll really be Hokage one day?" Naruto asked, looking up at Hiruzen with hopeful eyes.
"Of course I do, Naruto-kun, you have a great heart, and care for others. You work hard, and you make friends and support them. I am sure that you will be a great hokage. It will just take time, remember nothing ever happens overnight." Hiruzen said walking with the boy. He was proud of him, and had a strong believe in his future as well. "The path will be hard, but with you Naruto-kun, I believe you will one day be a great hokage, then even I was."
Naruto's eyes sparkled with determination as they reached Ramen Ichiraku. Naruto got excited as he could smell the rich scent of the various type of ramen being sold there. He could almost even taste the miso ramen he was going to order that night already. He quickly found his normal seat and sat down. Looking over at Hiruzen he gave him a huge smile.
"This is the start of my journey, Gigi. I'm going to make sure that everyone knows I'm going to be the best Hokage ever!" Naruto declared; his voice filled with youthful confidence.
Hiruzen chuckled softly, his eyes twinkling with affection. "I'm sure you will, Naruto. Enjoy your ramen and remember, every great journey begins with a single step."
