Hi friends, so as you've all probably noticed... I have not updated this story in a literal year and 3 months basically. To cut to the chase, I'm re-writing chapter 11 from scratch, talked to some people in the Haphne fandom about my ideas for this year and story, and am brute forcing my way through procrastination.
In short: Next chapter soon(hopefully by end of week)
What happened to me and this story
So... uhh... to those who are still reading, here's a small update about where I am and what's been up.
Basically I hit writer's block after writing chapter 10 as I had 0 idea what I wanted the 1st task to be. I HATE the dragons as all of the fanfics about GoF with the dragons are literally "hey Harry flies cause he learns Accio or has some magical bs" which I think is uncreative OR the equally uncreative "I kill big lizard/I talk to big lizard".
Then... well... I travelled. I went on a really cool trip and forgot about the fan fiction until August of that year. Actually that's a lie. I sat down, wrote an uncreative "Harry has broom and goes brrr" chapter, hated it, shut my doc down, and wasted the rest of my summer playing League of Legends (I wish that was a joke.). Then I got the idea to write What Comes Next and All Roads Lead to Rome... (we don't talk about that Violet Evergarden one).
By the time I wanted to come back to this story, I had it in my mind this story ate ASS and I just used that as my new excuse as school started up. Then... well, I was a senior in High School, dropped the only extra-curricular I had friends in (marching band), and wanted to keep good grades to enter university. I also met a lot of new friends who I wanted to spend time with and kinda actually forgot about this story outside of joking about it in the Haphne server.
All's this to say, I graduated earlier this year, entered university, and reignited my passion for Haphne after re-reading this story and thinking "Eh, this is kinda cringe but not half bad."
My criticism with the fandom and my plans moving forward
For those wondering, I still hate the common tropes in the fandom and I'm actively in discussions with friends to steer as far away from them as I can. This story will NOT be another "Harry is really weak and stays that way so Daphne has to stand up for him" story or equally as bad "Harry is god" story.
Harry is a 14 year old. He is a student. Imagine being 14 (high school freshman) with 0 training in defending yourself, and having the world's most powerful magical being in the history of the world trying to kill you. On top of that, having adults with years more experience and knowledge helping him or just trying to kill you.
This will be a REALISTIC (or as close to it in a fantasy setting) story with actual pacing and character development, something I think this fandom has lacked for quite a while. Harry will lose fights, he will be belittled and frowned upon. He will grow and struggle on his way to the top. But at the end, I promise y'all, it will be worth it as y'all read his character growth, alongside the other characters in this story.
Uhh... yeah, that's this update. Idk. I wrote this at 11 PM right after 3 lectures lmao. See y'all next chapter :)
