Ch. 71

Hi everyone! I don't know what's been going on with this site, but ever since I came back I haven't been able to see story stats, so I have no idea if people are still reading. I've gotten a couple reviews on my latest chapters, but it would really help me out if you left me some just so I know I still have readers :) Thanks to those who have left me reviews! They are always much appreciated! Anyways, here's the next chapter for ya! Hope you enjoy :)

Hanna walked into the kitchen and found Emma looking at a picture of their parents. She looked around and saw that no one else was here.

Emma looked up when she heard Hanna approaching. "Nice of you to finally wake up."

Hanna rolled her eyes. "Where's Dad?"

"He ran out to get supplies for Robin's baby. We're going to take them to him when he gets back."

"Where's Regina?"

Emma filled her in on everything that happened.

Regina left to pay her sister a visit early this morning and when she came back, she told them that Zelena is in love with Hades. They met in Oz a long time ago, and now their love seems to have rekindled. They didn't want Zelena to team up with Hades, but Regina also didn't want to hurt her sister. She knew there was one person who could destroy the love blooming between her sister and Hades…their mother. Regina left to find her and asked them to take baby supplies to Robin. He took the baby into the woods to keep her safe.

"You want some stale cereal?" Emma asked.

Hanna made a face. She was so tired of the food here "Not really…"

"You need to eat something," Emma went to the kitchen and made Hanna a bowl of cereal anyway.

Hanna begrudgingly ate the food. "You miss Mom, don't you?" Hanna nodded towards the picture Emma was looking at when she came into the room.

Emma smiled and looked back down at the picture. "Yeah I do."

"Me too," Hanna sighed as she glanced at the photo. "I hope she's okay."

"She's fine," Emma assured her. "I'm sure her biggest problem is worrying about all of us."

Hanna smiled. "Yeah you're probably right."

Emma and Hanna looked up from the picture when they heard the door open. It was their dad with a bag full of baby supplies.

"Everything, okay?" he asked

"Yeah," Emma told him. "We were just thinking about Mom."

"You think she's okay, right Dad?"

"I'm sure she is," he told her.

Hanna picked up the picture and held it up to him. "Do you remember this?"

"Birthday, right?"

Hanna furrowed her eyebrows at him.

"Anniversary, I think," Emma said.

"Yeah definitely anniversary," Hanna added.

"Right. Of course. I'm not thinking straight," he told them. "Being away from her is…it's hard."

Emma nodded. "We know."

"You two ready?" he asked.

Emma went to grab her coat from the hook. "Regina said the rendezvous point with Robin is a half day's walk into the woods."

"Did you get everything from the list?" Hanna asked as she put on her coat.

"Bottled water, new blanket, and a lot of baby wipes."

"Father of the year," Emma joked.

"Just do me a favor…when we get back don't tell Snow I forgot our anniversary."

"Well between all of the curses and the time jumps, who could blame you?" Emma said before exiting the loft.

"But don't worry, Dad. We won't tell," Hanna said, following her sister.

They walked into the woods and Robin Hood met them with the baby. They were handing off the supplies when all of a sudden David put a cuff onto Emma's wrist and pulled out a gun, aiming it at all of them.

"Dad, what the hell?" Emma asked. Everything happened so fast. She had no idea what was going on.

Hanna's mouth fell open. "Emma, that's not dad."

"Ahh the twin is smart," he said with a grin.

"James." Emma said, putting it all together. "Where's my dad?"

"Oh, he's locked up in the Sheriff's station."

Hanna glanced behind him when she heard the familiar sound of a car blazing down the road towards them. Cruella.

"Why is everything in the woods with you people," Cruella complained as she walked towards them. She stopped beside James. "Hello, darling. Fabulous job. Mummy's very proud of you." Her lips got closer to his. "And I will show you how much later on."

Hanna made a face and turned away.

"First, I need to do something." Cruella walked towards Emma and punched her right in the face.

"Hey," Hanna lunged towards her.

Emma quickly put her arm out to stop her. "Han, don't."

"That's for killing me darling." Cruella turned to Hanna. "I should give you one too for running off and leaving me waiting in the woods."

Hanna just stared at Cruella. She could blast her back in two seconds with her magic, but she didn't know what James would do with that gun, and she didn't really want to find out.

"What do you want?" Emma asked Cruella.

"What I want is out of this dreadful place. And if the author won't do it for us, I have to think of another way. And there is only one man who can do that for us."

"Hades. Why would Hades help you?" Emma asked

Cruella told them under normal circumstances he wouldn't, but with the right leverage, he would be more than happy to help them. They wanted Robin's baby. Hades would to anything for the baby of the women he loves.

Robin wasn't going to give up his child easily, but his bow proved useless against someone who was already dead. He shot an arrow right into James' heart and it did nothing. Hanna thought about using her magic. Apparently, James and Cruella didn't know she had any, otherwise she was sure there would be a cuff on her wrist too. Hanna thought maybe she could blast Cruella and James back, but could they escape before they got their bearings again and James used the gun on them? Hanna knew her magic wasn't strong enough to do anything more than that. She couldn't poof them all away by herself. She could possibly blast Cruella and James back, then reach over and remove Emma's cuff and she could send them all to safety, but what if James' gun went off and hit one of them? Hanna didn't know what to do and with no other option, they all got into Cruella's car.

As they drove down the road, James held the baby on his lap, who was in her carseat sound asleep. Hanna, Emma, and Robin sat in the backseat with James' gun pointed right at them. Hanna's mind was racing. She still had the ability to use her magic, but she didn't know what to do. When they got back to Storybrooke Hanna was going to ask Regina to teach her how to do more. Maybe she could have poofed all of them away or knocked out Cruella and James with a wave of her hands, but Hanna didn't know how to do any of that. She couldn't even reach over and remove Emma's cuff. James never took his eyes off them. She felt so useless.

The car came to a stop, and Hanna realized they were at the docks. James made them get out of the car. He placed the baby on the hood and turned the gun back on them. He walked slowly towards Hanna, Emma, and Robin, making them all back up towards the water…the same water that turned Aunt Em into a puddle. Hanna knew if they went into that water, they weren't coming out.

"You know killing us is not going to help you get out of here, Cruella," Emma said.

"Oh, you're right. But sending you to eternal torment…that's just a juicy bonus."

Hanna inched back towards the water. They were getting closer and closer. Hanna had to do something. Maybe she couldn't poof all of them out of here, but she had another idea. Hanna quickly waved her hand tossing Emma and Robin threw the air and away from the water. Hanna lifted her other hand to poof herself away, but James quickly grabbed her arm.

"Ah the twin has magic too? Good thing I have another one of these." James pulled out a cuff and put it on Hanna.

"No." Hanna looked up at him. She could see the evil in his eyes. "Why are you doing this?"

"To get back at my brother for stealing my life." He turned her around and began pushing her towards the water.

Hanna struggled against his hold. "Let me go! This isn't going to make up for what happened to you!"

"It may not make up for what happened, but losing his precious daughter will hurt my brother, and that's all I care about."

Hanna dug her feet into the docks and pushed back against him, trying to stop him from moving her any closer. They were almost at the edge. She tried to pull her arms out of his grip, but he was too strong.

"You're not making this easy." James lifted Hanna up into his arms and lifted her out over the water.

Hanna looked down, and she couldn't even see the dock anymore, only water. "No!" She latched her arms around his neck. She tightened her grip. She could feel James prying her hands from around his neck. She tried to hold on, but her fingers were slipping. "Please! Please don't do this!" Hanna begged again, but it was no use. She was going to fall into that water. She was going to be stuck in there forever…and eternal tournament as Cruella put it. Hanna could feel the tears streaming down her face as she thought about not ever getting home. She would never see her mom and brother again. Her dad, Emma, Henry…she would be lost to them forever. Hanna looked to James and tried one last time. "Please just let me go."

James grinned. "I can't wait to see the look on my brother's face when…"

Hanna felt herself being thrown to the ground along with James. She felt someone pick her back up again. She looked up and it looked like her dad, but she couldn't be sure.

"Go to your sister," he told her before placing her back on the dock.

Hanna quickly looked around for Emma. Her and Robin were still getting back up after being flung across the docks. Hanna ran to her.

"It's okay. I've got you," Emma said. She wrapped her arms around her sister.

Hanna buried her her head into Emma's jacket. She could hear her dad and James fighting, but she was too afraid to look. She listened as her Dad tried to convince James to let all of this go. He wanted to help him move on, but James wanted no part of that. The fighting continued and Hanna heard a splash. She heard Emma gasped and felt her hold on to her even tighter. Hanna didn't know what happened or who fell into the water. She didn't want to know. Then all of a sudden she felt Emma's grip loosen and strong arms try to pull her away. Hanna latched on to her sister. "No! No!"

David could see Hanna's eyes were closed tightly. Tears were streaming down her face, and she had a death grip on Emma. "Hey! Hey! It's okay. It's just me."

Hanna shook her head and continued to cry.

David brushed the hair from her face. "Hanna, look at me."

Hanna slowly opened eyes.

"He's gone. It's just me. It's Dad."

Hanna continued to breath rapidly as she looked into his eyes. It was him. She could tell. "Daddy!" Hanna let go of her sister and reached out for him.

David quickly picked her up and held her tightly. "I've got you, princess." He could feel his little girl trembling in his arms. "You're safe. It's okay."

Hanna just nodded and held him tightly.

"Are you alright?" Emma asked her dad. She could tell he was upset about what happened to James. "You did what you had to. You know that, right?"

"No there had…there had to be another way."

"There wasn't. Dad, sometimes people just cannot ever move on."

"I know. It's…despite everything he was my brother."

Emma leaned into her dad and he wrapped his arm around her. He held his girls close, thankful they were both safe.

David put Hanna down. "Are you alright?"

Hanna looked up at him and took a deep breath. "I'm okay."

"Are you sure?"

Hanna wiped her remaining tears away. "I'm fine. Let's…let's go find Regina." They needed to see if her and her mother were successful in breaking up Hades and Zelena.

"You told her what?" Emma asked Regina again once they found her, and she told them what happened.

"I told Zelena to give Hades a chance," Regina winced.

David looked at her…confused. "And you thought that was a good idea because?"

"Because we're family," Regina told him. "And I'm trying to trust her. She thinks she can change Hades."

"I'm sorry love," Killian said. "I missed the part where Zelena changed."

Regina turned to Hook. "You'd think the ex-pirate with a rum habit would cut my sister some slack."

"Well you'd think that the Evil Queen would be smarter than to send the Wicked Witch to romance the most devious man alive," Hook yelled back.

"Easy guys," Emma said. "We're not gonna win the war against Hades if we use all our ammo on each other."

The Savior has a point," said a voice from behind.

They all turned and saw Hades walking towards them.

Hanna felt her dad push her behind him. She listened as Hades informed them that he needed their help. Zelena was kidnapped by Gold and Pan. Hanna reached out for her dad's hand at the sound of Pan's name. Hanna hadn't heard that name in such a long time. She just tried not to think about it and continued to listen to Hades. They arranged a meeting tomorrow morning and Hades told them if they helped him save Zelena, he would take everyone's names off the headstones so they could leave the Underworld.

Hanna came downstairs after getting ready for bed. She knew she wouldn't be able to sleep tonight, so there was no point in even trying to stay up there. Henry was still working on his writing, and seemed to want to be alone anyway.

"Hey, I was just about to come up," David said once Hanna made it to the bottom of the stairs.

"I don't want to go to bed," Hanna told him.

"Alright." David could see that she was exhausted, but knew after what happened today sleep wasn't going to come easy. Everything that happened with James was obviously terrifying, but David also picked up on how Hanna reacted when Hades mentioned Pan. Her time in Neverland haunted her dreams almost the entire time they were in the Enchanted Forest, and still did on occasion. Her time spent in that jungle was not easy and because of Pan Hanna lost her best friend and sister for an entire year. David knew that boy brought up a lot of terrible memories for his little girl. "Why don't you just come sit in here with me?" David led Hanna into the bedroom. He hoped he could get her to fall asleep eventually.

"Okay." Hanna climbed into the bed and sat down where her mom usually slept. That made her miss her mom even more. Then she thought about her brother and how much she missed him too. Hanna could feel the tears welling up in her eyes. She was trying to be strong though, so she willed them to dry up. She wasn't going to cry. She looked up at her dad and gave him a smile. "I wish there was tv here."

"Me too." David sat down and wrapped his arm around her. "Wait a minute…" he looked down at her, "aren't you grounded?"

Hanna thought about it for second. She was pretty sure she was grounded after lying to everyone about Emma and all of her Dark One antics, but she didn't think it was from tv. Even if it was, she wasn't going to admit it. Hanna shrugged. "I don't think so…isn't it your job to keep track of that stuff?"

David laughed. "I suppose it is."

"I think I should be let off the hook anyway, especially after everything that happened today with…" Hanna stopped herself. She looked down and scooted away from her dad. She sat back against the headboard and pulled her knees to her chest.

David sighed. "Can we talk about it?"

She looked over at him and just shook her head.

"Hanna…"

"Dad, no. I'm fine!" She knew if she talked, she would cry. She could already feel the tears filling her eyes again.

David could see them too. "Honey, you had a really hard day. It's okay to talk about it."

Hanna looked down. "But I don't want to…"

David reached out and held onto her hand. "I think it will help."

Hanna took a deep breath as the events of today raced through her mind. Everything that happened with James and almost being thrown into that water was bad enough. Then Hades mentioned Pan…Hanna forgot that he would even be down here. She wasn't supposed to have to see him ever again. Hanna looked back up at her dad.

"Tell me what you're thinking."

"We thought it was you. Emma and I….we went with him to find Robin. We…we should have known. I should have known. I've seen him before. I should have known it wasn't you. But by the time we figured it out it was too late…"

"Keep going," David squeezed her hand.

"Emma couldn't use her magic and mine…it wasn't strong enough to do what we needed. He took us to the docks. He…he had a gun on us. He made us walk closer to the water."

David clenched his jaw as Hanna told him what his brother did to his girls. Maybe he didn't regret throwing him into that water after all.

"I…I knew I couldn't get all of us away from him, but I knew I could get Robin and Emma away from the water at least, so I flung them away and…" Hanna could feel the tears falling down her cheeks.

David noticed Hanna was starting to shake. He couldn't take it anymore. He let go of her hand and pulled her into his arms. "Come here."

"He put a cuff on me…he was going to throw me in…I…I would have been lost…forever and I…I couldn't stop him." Hanna clung to her dad and continued to sob.

"Shhh…it's okay." David rubbed circles on her back. "You're safe now."

Hanna looked up at her dad. "When Hades said Gold was working with…" Hanna stopped. She couldn't even say his name.

"I know." David brushed the hair from her face.

"I forgot that he would be here. I didn't even think…"

"Hanna. Listen to me. I will not let him hurt you or anyone else."

"Okay."

David leaned back again the headboard and continued to hold her close. "Tomorrow we'll do what needs to be done, and we will get back home to your mother and Neal. I promise."

Hanna nodded her head. She tried to relax in her dad's arms and convince herself that she was safe and they were going to get home soon.

David looked down a few minutes later, and was relived to find Hanna had fallen asleep. He should have never let her stay here with him. He and Snow should have made her go back home. It was safer for her there. They knew how much she wanted to help Emma though and who knows what could have happened to Emma and Robin if Hanna wasn't there to send them away from the water. Would he have made it in time to save them? David didn't know. None of that mattered now, though. All that mattered was getting everyone home to Storybrooke safely. David pulled the blanket up around them both and closed his eyes, hoping sleep would come and tomorrow would be better.

The next day, they all met at the cemetery. Emma was successful in helping Hades rescue Zelena. He opened a portal back to Storybrooke, but it would only stay open until sunset.

"How did it get here?" David walked towards the blown off clock that use to sit in the middle of Main Street.

Hanna noticed something about the clock. "The hands are moving."

"Is that a good sign or a bad sign?" Emma asked.

"It's a great one, if you want to leave," Hades told her. "When those hands spin fast enough in about an hour, it'll turn into an open portal back."

"Which we can't go through because of those." Regina pointed to the tombstones with their names. "So, let's get on with it."

"Gladly." Hades waved his hand removing their names. "You're no longer tied to this realm."

"I told you love could change him," Zelena said.

"I don't buy it," Killian said. "A man can't change that quickly."

"We're free to go through the portal when it opens," Emma told him, "which means it's time to split my heart so you can leave with us." Emma turned to Regina. "Do it."

Hanna watched as Regina plunged her hand into her sister's chest and pulled out her heart. She broke the heart into two pieces and gave one to Emma. Emma turned to Killian, but as she tried to put it into him, she clutched her chest and began crying out in pain. Regina quickly put Emma's heart back together and shoved it back into her.

"Why didn't it work?" Emma asked.

"I told you we couldn't trust him." Killian said.

"It wasn't me," Hades told him. "I'm afraid there are laws of nature beyond even my control."

"No, it should work," David said. "I died. My wife's heart brought me back."

"How long were you dead?" Hades asked.

"A minute or so, maybe less," Regina told him.

"Ah. I didn't think I recalled you entering this realm. Your soul never left your body. That's why it worked for you."

"So Hook's been down here too long?" Emma asked.

"And his body is rotting away up there," Hades said. "Even if your soul could return to it, I doubt either of you could stomach the smell."

"Well, Emma, it appears you'll have to return without me," Hook told her.

"There has to be another way."

"Emma, please."

"You're telling me no one's gone to the Underworld and brought someone back?" Emma turned to Hades. She could tell by the look on his face that it has happened before.

Hades told them that it was a long time ago. It was a rumor and there was no proof that it actually worked. He took them all to the library, where he showed them a book that contained the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. She died and he followed her to the Underworld to get her back. They were the only two who ever escaped. Orpheus help Eurydice escape by feeding her ambrosia, the fruit of the gods. They needed to go down the elevator to find it. Hades didn't know exactly how it all worked, but he knew there would be a test. The test ensured that only those who are worthy of eating the ambrosia could reach it. The test would require offering up your heart for judgment. Hanna watched her sister and Killian enter the elevator and descend to the depths of the library. Hanna was scared. She was scared that she might never see her sister again, but she tried to be strong and hold onto hope. They were so close to finishing what they came here to do. By sunset, they would be home…all of them.

Hanna waited with her dad and Regina. Robin was here too. He got their message about the portal being open and brought the baby. He gave the baby to Zelena, who was taking her to the portal with Hades. Robin didn't want to leave Regina, who had many enemies here. He didn't want to leave her alone and Regina wasn't going to leave without Emma.

Hanna looked up at her dad. "Should we go check on Henry?" He was outside using his author powers to help people learn what their unfinished business was. He had a whole line of people waiting. He wanted to help as many people as he could before they left.

"Let's go." David led Hanna towards the door.

"Any sign of Mom and Hook?" Henry asked.

"No, but we still have some time before the portal even opens," David told him.

"Don't count on it!"

Hanna jumped when she heard that voice. She felt her dad wrap his arm around her and pull her close, which made her feel a little better. Hanna looked up and saw Cruella pushing through the people in line.

"That's right, vermin. Scatter!"

"Sorry, Cruella, but I don't think your unfinished business is going to take you to any place you'd like," Regina told her.

"Oh, I'm not here to collect my story. I want to stay in this marvelous realm. You see, with Hades departing, the Underworld is going to need a new ruler."

"You?" David asked.

"The upside to your daughter sentencing me to this fate, but the job would be meaningless without a citizenry to torment."

"Cruella, we're not going to let you harm these people," David told her.

"Oh. You think I'm just going to keep them here? Oh, no. I'm going to keep all of you here." She turned to Regina. "It's only fair, considering it was your son who refused write me back to life. And you," she turned to David, "you dissolved my James…the best toy in the whole playpen."

"I'm still waiting to hear how you're going to stop us from leaving, Fuzzy," Regina said. "Because all your magic can do is make a dog roll over and beg."

"True. I don't have the magic to keep you all penned in here."

"But I do," the Blind Witch said as she walked up beside Cruella. She waved her hand and flung them all back into the library, slamming the door shut.

"You forced my hand, kid eater!" Regina threw a fireball at the door, to break the spell but it didn't work. "What the hell!"

"That's right," they heard Cruella say from outside the door. "No one's getting out before sunset when the portal closes, and then…no ones getting out."

"Consider it payback, Regina," the Blind Witch called out. "For tricking those children into burning me alive in my own oven!"

"I don't get it," Regina said. "The Blind Witch's spells are always half-baked."

"Maybe I can help you?" Hanna offered. Maybe together their magic would be strong enough.

Regina nodded. "Let's try."

Hanna stood beside Regina and held up her hands.

"It's just like when you blast somebody back, okay?"

"Okay." Hanna was good at doing that.

They sent their magic towards the door. The doors trembled a little, but then stopped.

Hanna sighed. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be. This is a powerful spell. Almost too powerful…"

"Maybe this isn't her spell," Robin said.

Regina knew he was right. "Hades. He wants us trapped in here."

Everyone turned when they heard the elevator open. Emma stepped out.

"Emma, where's Hook?" David asked.

Hanna could tell by the look on her sister's face that whatever they had to do down there didn't work.

"I'll explain later," Emma said. "We have to hurry to get to the…thing."

"We can't," Regina told her. "The Blind Witch cast a spell trapping us here."

"Let me guess, she got it from Hades."

Regina nodded.

"Regina and I tried to open it, Em, but we couldn't."

"This whole thing has been a setup to keep us trapped in the Underworld."

David looked to his daughter. "You mean the ambrosia…"

"It wasn't there," Emma told him.

"So Hook…he…he can't leave?" Henry asked.

"He can…move on. But he wanted to make sure we all got out even if he couldn't."

Hanna saw the tears falling from Emma's eyes and her heart broke for her sister all over again.

"Well, then, let's give him his wish," Regina said.

Emma nodded and walked over to the door. They were going to get out of here.

Regina followed and looked back at Hanna. "We need your help."

Hanna walked up beside them and they all three held out their hands, sending as much magic as they could towards the doors. They shook, fighting against their magic, but eventually burst open and they quickly went to the graveyard.

"The portal it's closing! Hurry!" Emma called out as they ran towards it.

Hanna watched Henry, Regina, and Robin run through. She was going to go next, but hesitated when she saw Emma turn back.

"Hanna, go!" David told her.

Hanna shook her head. "Not without out Emma."

David turned to his other daughter and reached for her hand. "Emma. I'm sorry there wasn't some other way."

"When I bought this jacket, it was meant to be armor to protect me from getting hurt by those I love. But now it's just a reminder that I have to protect those I love. Nothing's more important."

"You did your best for Hook," David told her.

"I don't know. Did I?" The ground trembled. The portal was about to close. Emma turned back to her dad and sister.

"You did, Emma. You did everything you could." Hanna reached out her hand for her sister.

Emma sighed. "All I know is I can't lose anyone else. Let's go." She held onto Hanna's hand and they all went through the portal.
