Chapter 19: The Door to Darkness
Professor Gerald Robotnik's Journal Entry No. 38
The merger is complete. Black Doom has infused his DNA with Project Shadow, and the results have been beyond anything I could have predicted. The unique structure of Doom's DNA is unlike any I have ever seen. It holds within it a potential that could grant Project Shadow abilities far surpassing anything I initially conceived. The prospect of these powers emerging over time is both thrilling and terrifying. Powers that may lie dormant, waiting for the right moment to awaken—abilities that could one day define the very fate of Mobius.
The agreement with Doom has been solidified. When the Black Comet returns in 50 years, the Chaos Emeralds will be delivered to him. It's a pact I made out of desperation, and one that I now see as both a blessing and a curse. The Chaos Emeralds are powerful artifacts, their energies unmatched. In the wrong hands, they could spell the end of everything we hold dear. But in the right hands… in the hands of my son, Shadow… they could be the key to stopping Doom and saving our world.
Ansem's words still linger in my mind, haunting me with their truth. He warned me of the dangers of aligning with Doom, of the darkness that could consume everything if I was not careful. But his warnings, though sound, came too late. The deal was struck. And now, I must live with the consequences.
But I am not without hope. I have begun working on contingencies, plans that will ensure that when the time comes, Shadow will be ready. He will face Black Doom and that comet, and he will have the strength and the knowledge to stop them. For now, Shadow is bonding with Maria. They have become close, their bond growing stronger with each passing day. It's a relationship that fills me with both pride and sorrow. She sees him as more than a project—she sees him as a friend, a brother. And I see that he cares for her in return.
Could this be the beginning of the road to dawn? Or will this journey lead to nothing more than the darkness of the night? I find myself wondering if I have truly done the right thing, or if I have simply delayed the inevitable. But one thing is certain: Shadow, my son, you will be ready. You will be the light that stands against the darkness when the time comes.
And when that day arrives, I can only hope that you will have the strength to make the right choices—choices that I was too weak to make.
REALM OF DARKNESS
The air was thick with a palpable sense of foreboding as Mickey and Silver cautiously entered a darkened chamber. The Realm of Darkness had a way of twisting reality, making every shadow feel alive, every sound echo with malice. This place, deep within the realm's twisted heart, was no different. The walls seemed to pulse with an eerie rhythm, almost as if the darkness itself was breathing.
After securing the Keyblade of this realm earlier, thanks to Starfall Super Sonic's timely intervention in helping them take down a relentless Demon Tide, the weight of their journey felt even more pressing. Sonic's radiant form had been a beacon in the darkness, his speed and power turning the tide against the seemingly endless enemy. In the aftermath, Mickey had found the Kingdom Key D, a Keyblade with the power to oppose the darkness that clung to every corner of this realm. The blade had chosen him, its reversed colors a stark contrast to the original Kingdom Key, and its purpose clear: to seal the Door to Darkness with it.
As they stepped deeper into the chamber, the sense of unease grew. The floor beneath them was cracked and uneven, as if the very fabric of this place was on the verge of collapse. Silver's green aura glowed softly, his psychic senses stretching out, searching for any sign of what lay ahead. The energy in this chamber was unlike anything they had encountered before—dense, oppressive, and filled with a sinister intent.
"This place... it feels alive," Silver murmured, his voice tinged with unease.
Mickey nodded, his grip tightening on the Keyblade.
"The Door to Darkness has to be close. I can feel it," Mickey replied, his voice steady but his stance was tense, ready for whatever might come.
Suddenly, a low, ominous rumble echoed through the chamber, reverberating off the walls and making the ground beneath them tremble. Silver's golden eyes widened, his green aura flaring up instinctively.
"Did you feel that?" he asked.
"Yeah. Something's coming. Stay sharp," Mickey remarked, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the dark chamber.
Then, without warning, a dark corridor began to form in the center of the chamber, its swirling vortex an unnatural void amidst the gloom. The darkness seemed to twist and writhe around it, as if recoiling from the light of the Keyblade and Silver's aura. Mickey raised the Kingdom Key D, its light flaring brighter, while Silver's energy pulsed, casting a bright and eerie green glow across the chamber.
Both stood ready, their senses heightened, as two figures emerged from the swirling darkness of the corridor. The tension in the air was electric, and for a moment, neither Mickey nor Silver moved, their eyes locked on the figures stepping out of the void. The darkness, which had seemed so oppressive just moments before, appeared to draw back slightly, almost as if it recognized the strength and resolve of those who had entered.
"Shadow, Aqua!" Mickey's voice was a mix of relief and urgency as he lowered his Keyblade slightly, the light from it flickering with a renewed sense of hope.
Silver's aura flared, his eyes narrowing in recognition.
"You made it," he said, his voice steady, but there was an unmistakable edge of determination.
Aqua and Shadow stood side by side, their expressions hardened by the battles they had faced. The darkness of the chamber seemed to pulse around them, but their presence brought a defiant light to the oppressive gloom. They shared a brief glance with each other, a silent acknowledgment of the trials they had endured to get here, a bond forged through their shared struggles in this forsaken realm.
"Mickey, Silver," Shadow remarked with a nod, his voice steady but carrying the weight of the journey they had all undertaken. His crimson eyes shifted down to the Keyblade in Mickey's gloved hand, its reversed colors catching the dim light. "Is that the Keyblade of this realm?"
Mickey held up the Keyblade, its light shining with a resolute glow, illuminating the space around them. The brightness of the blade seemed to push back the encroaching darkness, offering a small reprieve from the oppressive atmosphere.
"Yeah, this is it," Mickey confirmed, his voice filled with both hope and determination. "It wasn't easy, but we managed to find it."
"Now, we're just looking for the Door to Darkness," Silver added, his gaze sweeping the chamber. "This place... I can sense something powerful, and I think it's what we've been searching for."
Aqua turned toward Silver, her expression softening as she recalled the battles they had fought together, whether as allies or as opponents, all those years ago.
"That psychic power of yours, it was always unique," she remarked, her voice tinged with a mix of nostalgia and respect.
Silver blinked in surprise, his eyes widening slightly.
"You remember my powers?" Silver asked, his voice tinged with disbelief. "I thought your memories were broken, from what I heard?"
Aqua nodded, her expression growing somber. The darkness of the chamber seemed to press closer, the weight of their situation reflected in her eyes.
"Yes, they were," she admitted, her voice steady but laced with the gravity of her experiences. "They are slowly piecing themselves back together, but it came at a cost."
"A cost? What do you mean?" Mickey asked, confusion evident in his tone. His gaze shifted from Aqua to Shadow, searching for answers. "Did you manage to stop Mephiles and Oscura?"
Shadow noticed the slight hesitation in Aqua's expression, a flicker of pain that crossed her face. He stepped forward, his voice calm and measured as he took on the burden of explaining.
"Yes, we stopped Mephiles," he began, his crimson eyes reflecting the dark memories of their recent battle. "But it came at a high price."
He glanced at Aqua, a silent acknowledgment passing between them before he continued.
"With Oscura gone, Aqua's memories are slowly returning, but her heart... it's still empty. She's not whole. Not yet."
Mickey's eyes widened slightly in concern.
"So you're still not yourself?" he asked, his voice soft but filled with worry.
Aqua's gaze dropped, her expression a mix of sadness and acceptance.
"I'm still a husk," she said quietly. "A Nobody, it seems to be."
Silver felt a pang of empathy towards her, the weight of her words hitting him hard. She had fought so much, endured so much, and now she was left with a void where her heart should be.
"Curse that Mephiles," Silver remarked angrily, his voice tight with frustration. "He caused all of this."
Shadow nodded, his tone firm as he replied.
"He has been sent back to the hell he came from, but more questions need to be answered later about why Aqua's heart is still missing."
There was a pause as they all took in the gravity of the situation, the realization that their fight was far from over. But there was no time to dwell on it now; they had a mission to complete.
"Right now, we need to find that Door to Darkness," Shadow continued, his voice resolute.
Aqua lifted her gaze, determination replacing the sadness in her eyes.
"You're right," she agreed, her voice strong once more. "I can't dwell on this for too long. We have to keep moving forward and stop the darkness from spreading."
However, before anyone else could speak, a sudden rumble shook the chamber, causing the four of them to whip around in unison. A blinding light erupted from the center, forcing them to shield their eyes. When the light faded, they slowly lowered their hands, blinking as the chamber around them transformed. What had once been a dark, oppressive space was now illuminated by an otherworldly glow. Numerous pillars, previously obscured by shadow, stood tall and proud, with bright blue energy pulsing through the cracks in their surfaces, as if the very lifeblood of the realm was seeping through.
Silver was the first to speak, his voice filled with awe and uncertainty as he looked over into the distance.
"Is that what we're looking for?" he asked, pointing across the chamber.
Following Silver's pointing hand, Aqua's gaze was drawn to a pair of large white doors at the far end of the chamber. They were slightly cracked open, and a soft, yet powerful light emanated from within, casting an ethereal glow across the room.
"Is that the one?" she questioned, her voice laced with a mix of hope and trepidation.
Shadow's eyes narrowed as he focused on the doors, his instincts telling him that this was what they had been searching for.
"The Door to Darkness!" he declared, his voice firm, as if saying it aloud made it all the more real.
"Yep, the door to Kingdom Hearts," Mickey affirmed with a nod. "However, it's not the Kingdom Hearts you know."
Silver frowned, his confusion evident.
"Hold on, Mickey, are you saying that there are two Kingdom Hearts? he questioned. "But... isn't it supposed to be a heart-shaped moon?"
Aqua nodded in agreement, her mind flashing back to her own encounters.
"That's right. The last time we saw Kingdom Hearts, it was a moon-shaped heart. We faced Master Xehanort under that very moon."
"I've read about Kingdom Hearts being normally a heart-shaped moon. It's said to be the ultimate source of light and power, the heart of all worlds," Shadow added, recalling some ancient texts he had once read.
Mickey took a deep breath, understanding their confusion.
"I know it sounds complicated, but let me explain," he began, his tone patient but firm. "Kingdom Hearts is indeed a heart-shaped moon when fully realised. But this door, even though it's smaller, is still connected to that same Kingdom Hearts. It's like a fragment of the whole—a gateway that leads to the heart of many worlds. And even though it's not the complete Kingdom Hearts, the power behind it is still immense."
He paused, letting the gravity of his words sink in before continuing.
"We definitely can't leave it open like this, or the darkness will escape and consume the remaining worlds," Mickey warned, his voice filled with urgency. "This door may be just one connection to Kingdom Hearts, but it's enough to unleash chaos if we don't seal it."
Shadow's eyes narrowed as he considered Mickey's words.
"This Door to Darkness, connected to Kingdom Hearts... it's rather convenient for Ansem to unleash the darkness this way," he remarked, his tone laced with suspicion.
The thought of Ansem using such a powerful connection to spread darkness made his blood boil, but it also made him more determined to stop it.
Mickey nodded, understanding the gravity of Shadow's observation.
"That's exactly why we can't let him succeed," he said firmly.
With that, Mickey raised the Keyblade of Darkness, its light shining brightly in the chamber, reflecting off the blue energy pulsing from the pillars.
"It's time," Mickey declared, his voice resolute. "With this key and Sora's in the realm of light, we're gonna close this door. Now, all we need is Riku."
Aqua's memories of Sora and Riku flooded back to her mind, memories that had been distant and fragmented until now. With Oscura's death, those memories were piecing themselves together, the fog of darkness lifting to reveal the bonds she once cherished.
"Sora, Riku…" she whispered softly, her thoughts a mixture of hope and sorrow, remembering the two young boys she met on the Destiny Islands way back when."
Shadow's eyes narrowed, his skepticism evident in his response.
"Riku, huh? Do you think the kid is up for this? he questioned stoically. "Especially after being a puppet for Ansem?"
Mickey's ears perked up, and he gave Shadow a confident nod.
"You bet ya, Shadow!" he affirmed. "Riku's stronger than he knows, and he's got heart. Ansem might have tried to manipulate him, but Riku's got the strength to fight back."
"But are you even sure he's near, Mickey?" Silver asked, voicing his concerns. "He could be trapped deeper in this darkness, thanks to Ansem's manipulation."
Mickey's gaze shifted around the chamber, his senses on high alert as he focused on the energies swirling around them. His eyes suddenly widened, and he pointed to the far end of the chamber.
"There!" Mickey shouted out.
The group turned to see Riku sprinting toward the Door to Darkness, determination etched into his features. His silver hair glinted in the ethereal light of the chamber, and for a brief moment, a wave of relief washed over them—everything was coming together.
"That's everybody! Come on, te—" Mickey's voice was cut off as the ground beneath them rumbled ominously, and a roar echoed through the chamber.
From the shadows near the towering pillars, a swirling mass of darkness erupted, coalescing into the monstrous form of a Demon Tide. The Heartless creature surged forward, its chaotic, shadowy tendrils lashing out as it set its sights on Riku.
"Oh no!" Mickey remarked, his voice was filled with suprise and urgency.
The Demon Tide moved with terrifying speed, its massive form barreling through the chamber, dark energy crackling around it. Without hesitation, the group sprang into action, chasing after the creature as it charged toward Riku.
Aqua was the first to react, her Keyblade flashing into her hand with a brilliant burst of light. Channeling her magic, she thrust the Keyblade forward, and golden chains shot out from it, wrapping around the Demon Tide's swirling mass of shadows in an attempt to hold it back.
"Back off!" Aqua commanded, her voice resonating with a fierce determination.
The golden chains tightened around the Demon Tide, binding its dark tendrils and slowing its advance. The Heartless creature writhed and twisted, its shadowy form thrashing violently as it struggled against the chains. Aqua gritted her teeth, pouring all of her strength and magic into keeping the creature restrained.
But the Demon Tide was relentless, its immense power testing the limits of Aqua's magic. The Heartless swerved and thrashed, trying to escape the chains that held it, and Aqua felt the strain in her arms and heart as she fought to keep it bound.
"Aqua!" Shadow called out, his voice filled with concern as he saw the strain on her face. He knew how much she was pushing herself, and it pained him to see her struggling against such a powerful force.
But Aqua's resolve was unwavering.
"Go without me!" Aqua shouted, her voice tight with the effort of holding the Demon Tide at bay. "You have to close the door!"
Silver hesitated, torn between helping Aqua and following Mickey's lead.
"We can't leave you!" he protested, his voice tinged with desperation.
"Don't be a fool, Aqua!" Shadow interjected, his voice fierce with urgency. "We are a team!"
Aqua's grip on the Demon Tide wavered, but she pushed through, her determination unwavering.
"They need your power, Shadow!" she yelled, struggling to keep control. "Go! Stop the darkness!"
Mickey, too, was torn, his instincts urging him to help Aqua even as the weight of their mission pressed down on him. The urgency of closing the Door to Darkness battled with his loyalty to his friend.
"No, we—!"
But before any of them could act, the Demon Tide let out a powerful roar and broke free from Aqua's golden chains with a violent surge of dark energy. The force of the explosion sent shockwaves through the chamber, and the massive Heartless swelled with dark power. Aqua barely had time to react as the Demon Tide lunged forward, its shadowy tendrils coiling around her.
Shadow and Silver, thanks to their agility and quick reflexes, dodged the oncoming surge, leaping to opposite sides of the chamber. But as they landed, the Demon Tide swept toward Mickey, who was too close to escape. The monstrous Heartless grabbed him in its dark grasp, pulling him into its swirling mass of shadows.
"Mickey!" Shadow shouted, his voice laced with alarm as he watched his friend being dragged into the darkness.
Silver's green aura flared brightly as he concentrated, his psychokinesis powers surging forth in a desperate attempt to slow down the raging Demon Tide. He focused all his energy on the monstrous creature, trying to hold it back.
"It's... It's no use!" Silver gritted out, his voice straining under the immense pressure.
The Demon Tide bucked and twisted, but Silver's power was just enough to force it to spit Mickey out. The mouse was flung from the dark mass, hitting the ground hard. As he landed, his shirt disintegrated into sparkles of light, leaving him dazed and gasping for breath.
But Aqua was still trapped within the heart of the Demon Tide, her figure being tossed around by the chaotic energy. Shadow's eyes widened in horror as he saw Aqua being thrown about, her strength waning against the relentless force of the Heartless.
"Aqua!" Shadow roared, his red aura flaring up in response to his rising anger.
He could feel the chaotic energy within him building, ready to be unleashed. He prepared to summon all his power, his determination to end this threat burning within him. The air around him crackled with dark energy as he readied himself to strike.
But it was too late.
Before Shadow could act, the Demon Tide surged forward with a final, violent lurch. The dark energy within it swirled and pulsed, and with a deafening roar, it swept Aqua out of the chamber, her figure disappearing into the darkness. A wooden door materialised out of the shadows just as the Demon Tide reached it, and as Aqua was pulled through, the door slammed shut behind her, vanishing in a flash of light.
Mickey, still reeling from his fall, scrambled to his feet, his eyes wide with horror and disbelief. The weight of what had just happened crashed down on him, leaving him momentarily speechless.
"No…" he whispered, his voice trembling with shock and sorrow.
The sight of Aqua being swallowed by the darkness felt like a crushing blow, one that left him paralysed with despair.
Across the chamber, Shadow rushed to the spot where the door had disappeared, his fists clenched in helpless rage.
"Damn it!" he shouted
The fury within him boiled over, his chaotic energy flaring uncontrollably. He dropped to his knees, the frustration and anger tearing through him like a storm. With a roar of anguish, he slammed his fist into the ground, the impact causing cracks to spiderweb across the stone floor. His voice broke as he screamed into the empty space, his heart aching with the realisation that he had failed her.
"AQUA!" Shadow's voice echoed through the chamber, filled with a raw, painful mixture of rage and sorrow.
The memories of their time in the Dark World flashed through his mind—the battles they had fought together, the enemies they had overcome, the moments they had shared. From facing Black Doom and uncovering secrets of Aqua's past, to stopping Mephiles and helping to piece together fragmented memories—it had all led to this moment. And now, after everything, he had failed to protect her.
The red aura surrounding Shadow pulsed with chaotic energy, reflecting the turmoil within him. He had been through so much with Aqua, had seen her struggle and grow, and now she was gone, lost to the darkness once more.
On the other side of the chamber, Silver sank to the ground, his hands trembling as he tried to steady himself. Guilt washed over him like a tidal wave, the crushing realisation that he hadn't been able to save her weighing heavily on his heart. He had tried, had poured everything he had into stopping the Demon Tide, but it wasn't enough. He couldn't stop it—not this time, and not all those years ago when devastation had struck, leading Aqua to the Realm of Darkness in the first place. The memories of that failure haunted him, and now they were joined by the fresh pain of losing her again.
Silver's eyes filled with tears as he stared at the spot where Aqua had vanished. He felt as though history was repeating itself, as though he was doomed to watch helplessly, watching others be torn away by the darkness.
"I couldn't save her… I couldn't save her…" he whispered, the guilt and sorrow in his voice palpable.
The chamber, now eerily silent, bore witness to their shared grief and despair. Each of them, in their own way, wrestled with the overwhelming sense of loss. Shadow, still on his knees, felt the weight of everything that had just happened pressing down on him like an anchor. The chaos inside him churned violently, his emotions fueling the red aura that flickered around him. But amidst the storm of his thoughts and the rage bubbling within, something else cut through—something faint, yet unmistakable.
"What is this feeling?" Shadow thought, his senses sharpening as he focused on the barely perceptible sensation.
Even though the darkness around him tried to smother it, he could feel a distant, tenuous connection—Aqua. It was faint, a mere whisper in the torrent of chaos, but it was enough. She was still out there, alive, hanging on.
"Aqua?" Shadow murmured to himself, his eyes narrowing with determination. "I have to find her. She's out there somewhere, and I have a promise to keep."
With that resolve burning in his heart, Shadow pushed himself to his feet, but before he could delve deeper into the connection he felt, a voice broke through the silence, one filled with determination and urgency.
"Come on, Sora, Sonic! Together, we can do it!"
Shadow turned his gaze and saw Riku, his hands braced against the Door to Darkness, pushing with all his strength. Through the narrow gap in the door, Shadow could make out the familiar faces of Sora, Sonic, Donald, Goofy, and more—a mix of allies and friends lending their strength to close the door from the other side. Among them were Lucina, Wally, his Pokémon Gallade, and a Charizard, all straining to push the door shut.
Silver, who had been battling his own guilt, looked up in surprise, his eyes widening as he recognized the familiar faces beyond the door.
"They're here!" he exclaimed, hope rekindling in his heart as he saw their allies fighting alongside them.
Mickey, still catching his breath from being inside the Demon Tide, turned his attention to the scene unfolding on the other side of the door. His eyes quickly scanned the group, taking in the sight of their allies—Sora, Sonic, Donald, Goofy, and the others—pushing with all their might to close the Door to Darkness. A mix of relief and determination flooded his heart.
"They're giving it everything they've got," Mickey said, his voice filled with a renewed sense of purpose. The sight of his friends fighting alongside them reignited his spirit, driving away the despair that had momentarily taken hold.
It was then that Shadow's gaze fell on Sonic, who was straining against the Door to Darkness with the others. The familiar determination in Sonic's eyes sparked a memory in Shadow's mind—a moment back on Destiny Islands. Sonic had told Shadow that he had gathered the Chaos Emeralds, their combined power needed for the impending battle. Shadow also recalled the moment when he handed Sonic the red emerald to take on Metal Sonic, just before he himself dove into the darkness to find Aqua.
"Wait... Sonic has the Emeralds!" Shadow realised, his eyes widening as the pieces of a plan began to fall into place.
The Chaos Emeralds weren't just powerful artifacts—they were the key to sealing the Door to Darkness for good. With their combined power, they could amplify the magic of the Keyblades, locking and teleporting the door away forever, ensuring that the darkness would never escape again. And more than that, Shadow knew that with the Emeralds, he could use Chaos Control to find Aqua, wherever the darkness had taken her.
Shadow's heart raced as the full weight of the realization hit him. There was no time to waste. He shouted across the chamber to Mickey, his voice urgent and filled with newfound determination.
"Mickey! Sonic has the Chaos Emeralds! We can do more than just seal this door—we can close it and send it away for good!"
Mickey's eyes widened as the significance of Shadow's words sank in. His gaze snapped back to Sonic, who was still pushing against the door with everything he had. The Chaos Emeralds... With their power, they could not only seal the door but lock it away in a place where the darkness could never reach. This was their chance, their one shot to end the battle for good.
"You're right, Shadow!" Mickey agreed, his voice charged with determination. The urgency of the moment filled him with a new resolve. "This is our chance to end it, once and for all!"
But before they could act, a rumble echoed through the chamber, and the shadows stirred ominously. From the far end of the chamber, behind the towering pillars that glowed with a blue hue, massive forms began to emerge. The Darksides—huge, menacing Heartless—rose from the depths, their yellow eyes glowing with malice as they turned their attention toward Riku and the Door to Darkness.
The sight of the Darksides made Shadow's blood boil, his red aura flaring up in response to the new threat. These monstrous Heartless stood between them and their only chance of victory, blocking the path to closing the door for good.
"They're trying to stop us!" Silver shouted, his voice filled with frustration as he realized the Darksides' intent.
Shadow's eyes narrowed, the determination in his gaze hardening into something unbreakable. He knew what had to be done. The Darksides were a formidable obstacle, massive and menacing, but they were nothing more than shadows in the face of his resolve. The Chaos Emeralds were within reach, and with their power, Shadow would do what needed to be done—not just to close the door, but to find Aqua and fulfill the promise he had made to her.
As the red energy around him began to intensify, Shadow felt the familiar surge of chaotic power coursing through his veins. The air around him crackled with tension, his aura glowing brighter with each passing second. Shadow clenched his fists, his mind focused solely on the task at hand.
"I am Shadow the Hedgehog," he thought, his inner voice resonating with unshakable resolve. "I am the ultimate lifeform, forged in the crucible of chaos. I've faced darkness before, but this time, it's different. This time, I'm not fighting for revenge or survival—I'm fighting for a promise, for a future where the darkness will never threaten those I care about again."
His eyes locked onto the Darksides, their colossal forms looming over the chamber, casting long, ominous shadows. But Shadow saw through the darkness, his vision clear and unyielding. The Heartless were mere obstacles—barriers that he would break through without hesitation.
"Nothing will stand in my way", Shadow vowed to himself, the red aura surrounding him flaring up even brighter. "Not these Heartless, not this darkness, not even fate itself. I will keep my promise, and I will find you, Aqua."
With a burst of speed, Shadow shot off the ground, launching himself into the air like a crimson comet. The Darksides below turned their gaze upward, their glowing yellow eyes tracking the hedgehog as he ascended. But there was no fear in Shadow's heart, only determination and the burning need to protect what mattered most.
Mickey and Silver watched in awe as Shadow soared through the air, the intensity of his red aura illuminating the entire chamber. It was as if Shadow had become a living embodiment of chaos itself, a force of nature that nothing could contain.
"This is who I am", Shadow thought as he locked his gaze on the Darksides, his mind focused like a blade. "I was born from the chaos, and I will use that power to end this darkness. No more shadows, no more pain—only light, only victory."
As Shadow drew closer to the Darksides, the red aura around him reached its peak, transforming into a blinding, powerful light. The Darksides hesitated, sensing the overwhelming power that was now hurtling toward them. But before they could react, Shadow's voice rang out, filled with all the rage, frustration, and determination that had been building within him.
"CHAOS… BLAST!"
Everything in the chamber was engulfed in a brilliant red light, the sheer force of the Chaos Blast obliterating the Darksides in an instant. The entire room shook as the energy reverberated through the walls, a testament to the power that Shadow had unleashed. The darkness was driven back, erased by the overwhelming light, leaving nothing but the echoes of the blast in its wake.
As the red light slowly faded, the chamber was left in a stunned silence, the remnants of the chaotic energy still crackling in the air. Shadow landed and turned towards the Door to Darkness, his body still glowing with the aftereffects of the blast, his breathing steady but deep.
"This is only the beginning," Shadow thought, a cryptic and determined monologue forming in his mind. "I'll close the door on these shadows, but there's still so much more to be done. The darkness is vast, and the journey ahead will be long. But I'm ready. With the power of the Chaos Emeralds, I'll find you, Aqua. I'll bring you back from wherever the darkness has taken you. That's a promise."
Shadow's gaze hardened, his eyes glowing with an inner light that matched the crimson energy still pulsing around him.
"And when I find you, the darkness will have nowhere left to hide. We will finish this, together. The darkness doesn't stand a chance…"
And so, the story has come full circle.
In that fateful chamber, where the echoes of their battles reverberated through the walls, the heroes stood united. With the Darksides vanquished and the path to victory clear, they knew their moment had come. Shadow, with the Chaos Emeralds in hand, stepped forward, his resolve burning as brightly as the red aura that surrounded him. Sonic, understanding the weight of the task ahead, handed over the Emeralds without hesitation, trusting his friend to see this through.
With the power of the Chaos Emeralds coursing through him, Shadow ascended to his Super form—a radiant, golden light enveloping him as his energy reached its peak. The transformation was complete, and Super Shadow stood ready, his power magnified a thousandfold. As Sora and Mickey raised their Keyblades, the ancient and powerful weapons shining with the light of countless worlds, they prepared to seal and lock the Door to Darkness.
With a shared look of understanding, they acted. Sora and Mickey brought their Keyblades down in unison, unleashing their combined magic upon the door. The door glowed with a brilliant light as the Keyblades' power surged into the lock. The door began to close, the gap narrowing as the light from the Realm of Light pushed back against the encroaching darkness.
But the darkness was vast, and the door resisted, as if it sensed its impending doom. That was when Super Shadow stepped forward, his golden aura blazing with energy. He knew what needed to be done. With a deep breath, he channeled the full power of the Chaos Emeralds into a single, focused burst.
"Chaos Control!" Shadow's voice echoed through the chamber, carrying with it the force of his will and the power of the Emeralds.
In that instant, time seemed to freeze, and space itself bent to Shadow's command. The door, the very gateway between light and darkness, was enveloped in the light of Chaos Control. It shimmered for a moment, and then, in a flash of brilliance, it vanished—teleported to a place far beyond the reach of the darkness. The Door to Darkness was sealed, locked away where it could never threaten the worlds again.
The battle was over, and the door was gone. The heroes had succeeded where so many had failed. But as the light of victory began to settle, one question lingered in the air: What next?
The countless worlds had been saved, the darkness pushed back, but the journey was far from over. For Shadow, the victory was bittersweet. He had fulfilled his mission, but the cost was still painfully clear. Aqua was out there somewhere, lost in the darkness, and Shadow knew that his work was not yet done.
But one thing was certain—Shadow would not rest until he found her. The promise he had made, the vow he had sworn in the depths of his heart, would guide him through whatever challenges lay ahead. The darkness may have been defeated today, but Shadow's journey was just beginning.
With the Chaos Emeralds still glowing softly around him, Super Shadow looked out into the vast expanse of the unknown, a silent resolve settling over him. He knew that no matter where Aqua was, no matter how deep the darkness had taken her, he would find her. And together, they would face whatever came next, side by side, as they always had.
The battle for the future was far from over, but with the bonds they had forged and the strength they had gained, they were ready to face whatever challenges awaited them.
And so, the story continues…
[WN: Anyone for one more chapter to wrap up this fanfic and some secret chapters? Stick around, these will be released in the next few days. Also, the new Sonic x Shadow Generations trailer came out out today showing off Shadow's new Doom Powers. Annoyingly, I wanted to use a Doom Power in the last chapter, but maybe, just maybe, it can be implemented going forward. Great trailer though, go check it out if you haven't seen it!]
