The soul connection

Chapter 1

"AGH!"

He struggled. He continues to struggle. Time and time again, he bore this dream and each time it comes to him as he sleeps, it only gets worst.

"LET GO!"

He can't stand it, he's being smothered from all angles and then, slowly drawn into a mass that aims to consume him.

Megumi fights for his life every single day like this. At least, that what he assumes.

The mass continues to grow out, stretch and drag him in deeper. He swore he is limited as to how far he can keep himself, a tight coil has since come around his waist and refuses to let go. "I… have… to get… out of this!" he has been tired out, rendered breathless and now, powerless.

It was shortly after his lecture from Lady Tiamat who stated she is now interfering since he cannot control or accept what has happened to him. Megumi didn't think much of it, until he went to bed that night. It was nothing out of the ordinary at first, he still started his dream fighting off this mass. But tonight, it was rather different. He felt the coil around him grow loose, he saw his chance of escape once and for all. Then. He will run, and keep running from this blob and regain his composure in the outside world.

"Just… a little… more!" he could feel it, slowly, he was breaking free and then… He found someone had cut him off.

Megumi slowly peered up, but froze. "Why… WHY ARE YOU HERE?!"

Lady Tiamat stared him down. "Megumi, stop fighting this, or you will die," she said bluntly.

"What?"

The coil somehow grew thicker, stronger! He was wrenched back until only his head was peering out of the mass!

"NO! NO! I WAS SO CLOSE!" he shouted.

Lady Tiamat however bore no sympathy to him. "You need to understand what is holding on to you right now. Have you even bothered to peer into this being that is trying to contain you?" she asked of him.

He didn't want to answer no, so, he looked to the blob.

But… what was looking back at him?

In this mass, it felt like flesh and yet, there was fur as well. He saw eyes staring at him, desperate to hold on to him. It was as if a faceless curse aimed to consume him, but he knew these eyes.

"What… what is this? What sick joke is this?!" he demanded.

Lady Tiamat approached, her hand gently came on the mass as it trembled to her touch, but then, it relaxed a little. "Your shikigami, they sacrificed their forms to make your body… you have yet to accept it." She said coldly.

"Megumi, you fail to realize what has happened to you. So much so, Sukuna himself even tried to warn you. Despite your demand of him leaving you be until he brought back your sister. Which he has fulfilled mind you…"

"What are you getting at!"

"Had you broken free, you would have dropped dead."

He paused to this. "What?"

"You, before me, is your soul. This mass that is trying to contain you, is your body. Your soul is rejecting the body, which messes with your mind. Mind, body and soul need to be as one to function, none of these factors are." She said. "Your mind is screaming this is wrong, this isn't right. Your body is trying to get you to accept what has happened and there is no going back. Your soul is resisting the body for the mind is screaming how wrong it is… nothing is wrong about this." She said gently.

"I don't… I don't understand…"

She sighed to this. "Megumi, the reason why parts of your body altered when you sneezed it was that moment of weakness where your soul could have escaped. Yet, when you had a dragon tail or ears somehow sprout out, it was the stopper to prevent the soul from leaving the body. When you expelled rabbits… that was how close your came to leaving your body and dying then and there. Those rabbits swapped places with you to ensure your safety." She explained. "When you tried to fight recently, you couldn't call upon your power. Why? Because your power is dormant and you cannot tap into it until everything is cohesive. So, I have bided you some time." she explained.

Megumi… felt light headed, and then, he felt as if he was cut off from the outside world. "What… what's happening!?"

"I am in the process of regressing you," she said. "I did this once with Yuuji, remember?"

Megumi froze, she's turning him into an infant!?

"No, I can handle this myself! I can do this on my own!" he protested.

"I gave you a fair chance to do so, and you couldn't. Now, it's time I step in. I don't know how much time I have bought for you, but don't waste it. Come to accept yourself and who you are, until then, this is all I can do. I promise you will be tended to in your infant form, we don't have a lack of help for that" she said and smiled.

"Why…" he managed to force out. "Why are you doing this to me?"

She smiled. "Because, Toji needs to show me that he has changed for the better, he is getting a chance to raise you properly. As well, Sukuna mentioned something and I happen to agree with him. For a sorcerer, choosing death should only be a final option, however, at any given time, you tend to lean towards such ideas in hopes of obtaining victory. Sacrificing yourself for the greater good is one thing. Sacrificing yourself for the sake of it… is another. Megumi, you need to find your reason to live."

She vanished shortly after, leaving Megumi alone, trapped with his thoughts and shikigami who attempted to pull him deeper into the mass they created. Of course he refused such a thing, he has to know first, why is everyone going through the trouble of trying to save him?

What if he doesn't want to be saved?
