Remember Sara!
Sequel of: Don't remember Mama!
Maxwell sits in his office, pleased with himself and the world. He enjoys the good feeling that he has done the right thing. He was reluctant at first whether it would be wise to show the children the family video with their mother. But now, looking back, he doesn't regret his decision at all, on the contrary. It has been a very touching heartwarming and emotional moment for all of them and a beautiful one, that brought them closer together again. They shared a wonderful evening. The children and he remembered other special memories with Sara and no one was sad at all.
Maxwell reaches for the picture of his deceased wife.
"I'm sorry, Sara. I was totally blind. I thought if I keep the children away from the past and the memory, I would help them to cope with their pain. That it would be the best for them. And I was afraid, because I wasn't ready. It's still hard for me to think and talk about you, but now I know it will get better. I was so wrong. I promise you, from today on I will always make sure that the children will remember you for the rest of their lives. Oh, Sara, if you only knew how much I miss you. I wish you could be with us and you could see what great children we have. You don't need to worry about them, they are all doing fine. Maggie has turned into a real teenager, which I sometimes have problems to deal with, and she looks exactly like you. Every day when she looks at me she reminds me of you. Brighton has become very tame recently, even if he still brings occasionally notes from the headmaster home. And Gracie, our little angel, has become a truly happy child. She got rid of her friend Imogene and no longer sends every new doll or stuffed animal to therapy and she already shows some show talent."
As Maxwell continues to stare at the photo, there is a knock on the door.
"Do you need something Sir?"
"No, thanks Niles!"
"Do you allow for me to make a private comment, Sir?"
"Niles, you don't usually ask for permission. You just say what you think."
"I just want to tell you what a great idea it was to show the children the video...Whatever made you decide to do that."
"This credit goes to Miss Fine and Gracie. Through Miss Fine's intervention and the conversation with Gracie, I realized what misfortune I put the children trough by never speaking to them about their mother. When Gracie said she doesn't even remember her mother, my eyes got opened and I suddenly knew what I have to do."
"Well, Miss Fine always manages to achieve amazing miracles with the children. I am convinced Sir, with Miss Fine the children would even accept one day to get another mother."
"Oh Niles, you know this is out of question for me. Besides, where am I supposed to find a woman who would be the perfect partner at my side, who could love me with all my weaknesses and would take care of my children as if they were her own?!"
"Just don't close your eyes! Sometimes the goal is right there even if we can't see it! Good night, Sir!"
Niles leaves the office, absolutely sure that his boss didn't get his little hint. But he will not give up!
