"come on Shay don't do this". Severide pleaded his voice hoarse with desperation his hands covered, covered in soot,pounded rhythmically on her chest. Dawson was beside him tears streaming down her face her breaths coming in ragged gasps as she joined the relentless CPR Both Severide and Dawson were crying and begging her to breath but still she didn't respond. Suddenly Casey and the others made their way to them,for a moment they paused,stunned at what they were seeing there friend laying motionless on the floor grim and dust covering all of them but standing out on her pale features then training kicked in, they moved in and picked Shay up to get her outside to an ambulance. Severide and Dawson just knelt looking at each other in despair, finally Severide lurched forward got up and ran after them yelling for Shay. Boden had called in a mayday and could hear sirens and then he saw Clarke carrying out a groaning Mills his leg at an awful angle then a few others began following them. Then Casey,Cruz,Otis and Herrmann carried out Shay,he could see her once vibrant blond hair now a crimson nightmare. At that moment another ambulance pulled up as the paramedics climbed out, he yelled. "She goes first,she goes first". There was no arguing Shay was placed on the gurney and loaded into the ambulance. As the ambulance began speeding off to Chicago Med, Severide came running out and Boden intercepted him. "I need to go with her Chief". He cried "Let them get her to where she needs to be Kelly".Boden replied. The use of his first name from Boden broke through the panic that was gripping Severide. "She can't die chief,she just can't". Severide pleaded. As Mills was loaded into another Ambo Boden stood wondering how his wedding day had taken such a horrific turn and silently prayed that the Firehouse wouldn't loose another member so soon after Darden. As the crews from Firehouse 52 arrived their chief told Boden to get his guys to Med to get checked out, he thanked him and had everyone bundle into their vehicles and get to the hospital. By the time they got there the doctors and nurses were waiting for them,Dr Choi tried to check on Severide but all Kelly wanted to do was find out how Shay was doing. He was resisting any attempts at treatment until Casey stepped in "Severide all the time your yelling and fighting distracts them from helping Shay". At that Severide collapsed Casey struggled to hold him as Severide cried loud heart breaking sobs. All while Dawson sat racked with guilt,they'd swapped places if they hadn't Shay wouldn't be fighting for her life. All anyone could hear from her was her muttering "Don't die,please don't die". Over and over again.
