Hello! I'm back with another DA fic. This one came from a Drabble I wrote, and a review of it! Justaguest123 brought up the fact that Sybbie could see what romantic love was through Cora & Robert, or Edith & Bertie, and while I didn't have enough time to cover that in the drabble, I thought it would be interesting to write about and add her observing other couples, too.

I hope you enjoy!

Observing was a common hobby for Sybbie Branson, one she fell into doing without even trying to.

She observed the way trees swayed in the wind, the noises their car made when they drove, and, most often, she observed how people interacted.

Her dad and Aunt Edith had been saying she would make an excellent journalist since she was a young girl, and now that she was seventeen years old, the idea of pursing that career sounded quite appealing.

Her most favorite thing to watch had always been how the adult couples in her life interacted with one another.

Seeing as she didn't see her father in a romantic relationship until she was seven years old, her main observations had been directed towards her grandparents for her earlier life.

Without them knowing it, whenever she was with them, she was always paying close attention to how the two spoke and acted towards each other.

She'd witnessed moments they probably didn't want their grandchild seeing, such as flirtatious whispers and mumbled arguments.

They were a definition of love to her, and she could only imagine having loved someone in such a way for so long.

February 1927...

"Cora, do you know where George put my pocket watch? I can't seem to find it." Donk said to his wife as his eyes surveyed the library.

Grandmama shook her head. "I didn't see him take it. Have you checked your desk?"

"Of course I checked my desk, Cora. That's the first place I checked!" he replied, annoyance evident in his tone.

"You don't need to become frustrated with me. It's only a pocket watch." Her voice sharpened as she scolded him.

He stayed quiet as he searched under the tables, on the shelves, and behind the sofas.

After he found it wedged in between two books, he tucked it back into his pocket and slowly walked over to where his wife sat. Sitting down beside her, he glanced over. "I'm sorry for getting frustrated with you. It was unnecessary."

Grandmama's loving gaze turned to rest on his face. "I forgive you, my dear. I know you hate when things are out of place."

Donk leaned forward and gently kissed her cheek.

She smiled, and chuckled a little. "Oh, Robert. No one is in here. You can do better than that."

He smirked faintly as his eyes glistened mischievously. "If you insist." he closed the gap between them and pressed his lips to hers in a long, warm, deep kiss.

Sybbie, having been watching since Donk asked if her cousin took his pocket watch, grinned like a kid in a candy store as she watched her grandparents display such affection for one another.

It wasn't very common to see them display much affection at all due to their class and position, but as she got older, and they got older, she saw the way they held hands and pecked each other's cheeks or kept their arms around one another.

She could only dream of having a love like that when she reached their ages.
