Hello Everyone! Tempest The SeaWing is me and Tempest The SeaWing is now posting the first bit of this story! This is just the first chapter, told from Starlingpaw's perspective. Aww, poor Starlingpaw, I feel really really sad now. Anyways, with all that out of the way, I hope you enjoy reading this story. Now, without further ado, let's take flight.
oOo
Starlingpaw shot up with a start, her sleek black fur fluffed up and her amber eyes frantically scanning her surroundings. "Oh thank StarClan! Your finally awake," came a sweet voice from the entrance of the den. Starlingpaw turned her head to see a dark gray tabby she-cat standing in the entrance of the den, her light blue eyes filled with warmth and concern. She placed the herbs down in front of Starlingpaw, who bent her head and took a hesitant sniff.
"How do I know that your not trying to poison me?" Starlingpaw asked, her eyes narrowed as she stared into the older she-cats blue eyes. Her voice was horse and her throat felt as dry as a desert. But after being cast out and the many attempts made on her life, it was very hard for Starlingpaw to trust other cats. "Now why do you think Cinderpelt would do that?" Came another voice from the entrance of the medicine den. The two cats both looked up to see a ginger and white tomcat with dazzling green eyes. "Firestar," the dark gray she-cat mewed, smiling brightly at the tomcat, her eyes sparkling as she watched him enter the den. "Greetings, Cinderpelt. And hello, young one, what is your name?" Firestar asked, as he gazed down at Starlingpaw, who looked up at him with wide amber eyes. "Um… I'm Starlingpaw. You must be ThunderClan's leader, am I right?" She asked, and the fire-pelted tomcat nodded his head with a surprised look on his face.
Firestar shook himself and nodded his head, with a look to Cinderpelt, who looked just as surprised as Firestar had. "Yes I am, it's a pleasure to meet you, Starlingpaw." Firestar mewed, smiling warmly at the young apprentice, who still stared at Firestar with wide eyes. "I uh… it's a pleasure to meet you as well, Firestar." Starlingpaw stuttered out, not knowing what to say to the ThunderClan leader. "You remind me of someone," Firestar mewed, his green eyes scanning her amber ones.
Starlingpaw blinked in confusion as she stared up at Firestar. "And who might that be?" She asked, flicking her ears back and forth and curling her tail neatly over her front paws. "Yellowfang," was Firestar's simple reply, and Starlingpaw just felt even more confused. "Yellowfang? Who's Yellowfang?" She asked, and Firestar and Cinderpelt glanced at one another. "She was ShadowClan's former medicine cat, but then she became ThunderClan's medicine cat after our medicine cat, Spottedleaf, was killed by a ShadowClan warrior named Clawface." Cinderpelt explained, and Starlingpaw's eyes went wide in shock. "Where is Yellowfang now?" She asked, but she soon regretted it when the two older cats expressions grew somber.
Starlingpaw lowered her ears in shame, as she stared down at her paws. "I'm sorry for asking," she mewed, looking back up at Firestar and Cinderpelt, who both shook their heads and smiled sadly down at her. "No, it's fine. You were just curious, that's all. Anyways, Yellowfang died in a fire that destroyed most of our camp, and she was an old cat, but she was one of the smartest cats that I have ever met." Firestar mewed, his tail swishing back and forth and his ears flicking from side to side.
"Wow… that sounds… awful…" Starlingpaw shuttered at the thought of any cat dying in a fire. That wasn't something she would wish on anybody… well scratch that… she could care less about how her father died. "Who are your parents, Starlingpaw?" Cinderpelt asked, bringing Starlingpaw out of her thoughts as she looked up at the medicine cat. "Huh? Oh umm… well… you see… my father is a cat who's done some very very bad things, and I don't know who my mother is." Starlingpaw replied, looking up at the two older cats, who once again glanced at one another.
It was silent for what felt like moons, and Starlingpaw was starting to get nervous, what could they be thinking? Did they figure out who her father was? Were they going to throw her out just like her own Clan had done? All these thoughts were racing through her mind like a tempest, and it was starting to make Starlingpaw feel dizzy. She just wanted them to say something, anything to stop the whirlwind of negative thoughts that were racing through her brain.
Finally, after what felt like three sunrises of waiting, Firestar finally spoke up, "Well… we know a few cats that have done some very bad things," he mewed, and Cinderpelt spoke up next, "And Tigerclaw is excluded from that list, so that leaves us with… Brokenstar or Scourge." She mewed, her ears flicking back and forth as she stared intently at Starlingpaw. "And you're definitely not from the back alleyways of Twolegplace, so that just leaves us with Brokenstar," Firestar mewed, tilting his head to the side in thought as he studied Starlingpaw.
Starlingpaw felt her breath get stuck in her throat as she lowered her head and her ears went flat. "You look and act nothing like Brokenstar," Firestar mewed, and Starlingpaw felt the air rush out of her and she looked up at the two older cats with hope-filled eyes. "So… we have a proposition for you, Starlingpaw. Do you want to train with one of our warriors or do you want to train with Cinderpelt to become a medicine cat? Witch do you choose?" Firestar inquired, tilting his head as he stared down at Starlingpaw. "Wait… you're going to let me stay?" Starlingpaw asked, her amber eyes wide in startled surprise, and Firestar and Cinderpelt both nodded their heads in confirmation.
Cinderpelt bent her head down so she was eye to eye with Starlingpaw. Then she spoke up in a sweet and motherly tone of voice, "Yes we are, Starlingpaw. Why wouldn't we be?" She asked, blinking her light blue eyes in confusion as she looked up at Firestar. "Well… aren't you scared of me?" She timidly asked, and Cinderpelt and Firestar blinked in confusion before looking down at Starlingpaw, then back to each other. "No, of course not! Now what in the name of StarClan made you think that?" Firestar mewed, curling his tail over his front paws as he stared down at the young apprentice.
Starlingpaw thought for a while before finally making up her mind. Before speaking, Starlingpaw took a deep breath, "I've made my choice," she mewed, looking up at Cinderpelt and Firestar with bright amber eyes. "What will you choose to do then, Starlingpaw?" Cinderpelt asked, her eyes shining with anticipation as she awaited Starlingpaw's answer. "I've decided to train to become a medicine cat," Starlingpaw mewed proudly, and Cinderpelt smiled and looked at Firestar, who looked just as happy as the dark gray she-cat.
