Won't say much other than thank you to the few of you who still looked forward to seeing the ending of this fic. Enjoy. Re-uploaded the previous (update) chapter as some issues arised with the site.

Disclaimer: I do not own Persona 5 Royal or Toaru Majutsu no Index.

As if the frizzy-haired boy wasn't restless enough, the revelation from two hours ago haunted him, keeping sleep far out of reach. Index had already been targeted, even captured once—what assurance did they have that FORMULA wouldn't strike again? Ren struggled to grasp why Index was so crucial to their sinister plan.

"They're plotting something with her," Akechi said as they entered Ren's dimly lit dorm room. "The month I spent with her in England didn't reveal much, but considering the obsession with that girl, and the fact they set up a trap for us, I can't help but have a feeling they've made some sort of breakthrough."

"Why didn't I see this coming?" Ren murmured, a hint of frustration seeping into his voice.

Despite what he felt was a shortcoming, Ren had left Vohu Manah at the hospital to overlook Touma and Index. He couldn't physically be there for them, but he couldn't leave them alone after what he just found. His Persona was quite a ways away from him, and he could feel a small strain the further away he moved from it, but It was worth all the pain.

"It's only been three weeks," Akechi replied calmly. "And let's face it, we've been on edge the entire time. None of us considered this, not even the people we met in England."

Akechi had a point. Neither the members of Necessarius nor New Light had raised any suspicions or questions. They held Ren and Touma responsible that Index would be under tighter protection after everything that had happened.

"That girl is still safe, Amamiya," Akechi continued, his voice carrying an unusual note of assurance. "We can keep her safe now that we know they're still after her."

Akechi's protective stance was surprising, given his usual detachment. Perhaps, in the time they spent together, he'd come to see Index as someone worth defending.

But Ren remained lost in thought. The pieces of the puzzle were scattered before him, yet he couldn't make sense of the bigger picture. To him, Index was just a gluttonous girl who had memorized some grimoires. How could she be tied to the Metaverse or Ruin?

"I'm sorry, this just doesn't make sense to me, Akechi," Ren finally broke his silence, frustration evident. "Even if we protect her, then what? Do we just let Ruin happen?"

"I don't have all the answers either," Akechi admitted, his tone grim. "But it's not like we have much of a choice, do we?"

FORMULA's intentions were becoming clearer—they needed Index for something pivotal. The pseudo-Phantom Thieves were starting to realize that FORMULA was no longer just a fringe group of zealots chasing after a so-called 'formula' for godhood. They were evolving into something far more dangerous.

"FORMULA started as a group obsessed with finding a chemical 'formula' for a chosen one," Ren began, his voice tinged with disbelief. "But now they've shifted to investigating the Metaverse, researching Shadows, and somehow, Index is the key to their plans. How did things change so drastically?"

Akechi stared at Ren, deep in thought, before responding. "Maybe a new leader? Like how things shifted from what was happening before to what Maruki was planning?"

It was a plausible theory, but it only led to more unanswered questions.

"I think we need to gather everyone," Akechi suggested, breaking the heavy silence.

Ren took a moment to process before nodding. "Yeah, you're right. I'll see if I can get everyone to meet up by tomorrow. This feels bigger than the both of us."

Akechi, though arrogant, wasn't a fool. He knew when to seek help, even if it meant acknowledging his own limitations.

Ren's mind continued to race, sifting through every clue or lead he might have overlooked. FORMULA had evolved in ways he hadn't anticipated. Their actions were erratic and unpredictable. Back during the Phantom Thieves' crusades, things were simpler—identify a target, locate the distortion, and strike. But now, everything felt disjointed, as if nothing made sense anymore.

Ren never felt hopeless during the Palace raids two years ago, despite the overwhelming odds and the entire legal system of Japan bearing down on them. He had always maintained a confident front for his team, motivated by the belief that their efforts weren't in vain, and honestly falling in love with the life he led as Joker. But now, things felt different—more chaotic, less logical.

"What are you thinking about now?" Akechi asked, his voice gruff.

"Just how much we've been through," Ren replied with a bitter scoff. "Feels like I've never had a break from all this crap."

"I can't say the same," Akechi said with a sly grin. "And what do you mean 'crap? You love being Joker. It's in your blood at this point. Don't forget, you even dragged me into this after I tried killing you."

"How could I forget?" Ren muttered, rolling his eyes. "What made you change your mind?"

Akechi didn't answer. He crossed his right leg over his left and relaxed himself onto the chair. Ren let out a small sigh and didn't press further. He'd get the answer out of him one day… surely…

"I wonder how everyone else is doing…" Ren's voice trailed off as he recalled his conversation with Lavenza before arriving in Academy City. She had assured him that no time would pass if he succeeded, but the mechanics of that promise eluded him. Best to take her word for it, he decided.

"Okay, I've sent everyone a message," Akechi said, snapping Ren out of his thoughts. "We'll meet first thing in the morning. Misaka, Accelerator, and Index will be there. If there's anyone else you can think of, tell them to be here."

"Sounds good," Ren replied.

Ren took it upon himself to invite Kanzaki and Kakine as well. Something told him that the more allies they had, the better their chances of whatever it was they needed to do. After dismissing Akechi, Ren retreated to his bed. It would take all his willpower to fall asleep, but he knew that rest was essential for what lay ahead.

As he closed his eyes, he forced his mind to quiet, and eventually, sleep claimed him.

Upon waking, Ren noticed it was still just before dawn. He had only slept for about four hours, though he hadn't checked the time when he and Akechi returned to the dorm. The grogginess from waking hadn't yet allowed last night's troubling thoughts to catch up with him fully. It wasn't until he splashed ice-cold water on his face and put on his glasses that the weight of his concerns began to press down on him again.

He knew things wouldn't get any easier from here. He hoped the team gathering this morning would have some insights to share. Scratching his head, Ren dressed and went straight to the kitchen to brew coffee. The smell soon filled the dorm, drawing Akechi, who had already dressed and appeared ready, his expression serious.

"You wouldn't happen to be brewing jet fuel, would you?" Akechi quipped, attempting to break the tension.

Ren let out a dry laugh. "I would've finished it by now if I was."

He poured two mugs, sliding one across the table to Akechi.

"There are still a few minutes before everyone gets here," Ren said. "Where do I even begin?"

Akechi took a sip of his coffee, a slight smile forming. "Tell them everything about Ruin, then come up with a plan on the spot. If someone thinks it's stupid, just say there's no better option."

Ren paused, lowering his mug. "That might be the stupidest thing I've ever heard you say."

Yet, Ren knew it was likely exactly what he would do.

"Let's hope they don't ask too many questions," Akechi replied, his tone concerned, "I can't help you answer any of them."

There was an edge to Akechi's words that Ren hadn't noticed before—a reflection of his frustration. His sudden mood shift was very unnatural.

A knock at the door interrupted them, and soon, everyone began to arrive. To Ren's surprise, no one spoke as they entered. He had sent another message last night telling everybody to walk in and wait until he voiced all that he called them for. Everyone, seemingly, followed his instructions. Misaka took a seat on the couch, Accelerator helped himself to coffee, Kakine leaned against the wall, and Kanzaki stood beside the couch. All eyes were on Ren, tension growing as he still had yet to speak.

"Thanks for coming on such short notice," Ren began, his voice steady despite the pressure he felt. "I need you all to hear what Akechi and I have pieced together."

He took a deep breath, carefully choosing his words.

"We found disturbing evidence about Index in one of the abandoned FORMULA buildings last night," Ren said.

Kanzaki gave Ren an imposing glare. She still followed what he had asked, but she was losing her composition. Ren gave her a look that said, 'Let me finish.'

"It was a mistake on my part to overlook what happened in England, and what happened to Touma was my fault, too. But I believe something much bigger is at play here. I've mentioned Ruin before, but now it's time to explain what that means, and what you're all getting into if you choose to help."

Ren scanned the room, gauging everyone's reactions. When they all nodded, he continued.

"I believe Ruin will strike the world in the next few days. Ruin is the manifestation of all mankind's 'desires,' but it can also be a powerful, singular person who controls what happens. On our Earth, Ruin manifested as an 'absolute choice.' I don't know how it will manifest here, but I assume everyone, including all of you, could be affected."

"You mean like some kind of hivemind?" Accelerator asked, his voice sharp. "I can block out mind control, for your information."

"Ruin isn't just mind control," Ren replied. "It's a complete change in the psyche of anyone who succumbs to it. It leaves them an empty shell, incapable of thinking for themselves."

Ren was speaking from what he believed to be true, but even he wasn't entirely certain.

"That sounds similar to Idol Theory... but is there any way to counteract it?" Kanzaki interjected.

"The only ones who weren't affected were those who believe and trust in the Phantom Thieves—specifically, the Trickster."

"And I'm guessing that's you?" Misaka asked, finally breaking her silence.

"I think?" Ren said, uncertain. "I'm just making a highly educated guess."

"What the hell does 'believing' in you even mean?" Accelerator scoffed. "Sounds like something out of a cheesy movie."

"I think it means seeing each other as true allies," Ren replied. "But, like I said, I don't know all the details."

"That has to be the vaguest bullshit I've ever heard." Accelerator spat. "Do you even want us to help?"

Ren shot Accelerator a side glance.

"Ok, so let's say none of us are affected. What other changes would there be?" Misaka asked, her tone calm.

"The world will look different," Ren explained. "Either something like hell or a paradise that you wouldn't want to leave. But no matter what you see, none of it will be real."

Ren contemplated hiding the truth about the dead coming back to 'life'. It's what made Maruki's world so hard to abandon. It was a nasty thing to hide, but being the head of the team meant needing to make the hard choices. This felt like the worst of them all.

"Why are you only telling us this now?" Kakine finally spoke. "You asked me to join your little team some time ago, and now suddenly the world's going to end? Maybe you should've led with that?"

Ren winced slightly at Kakine's words. But in fairness, not even he had expected things to escalate so quickly. It wasn't even that long ago that Kakine had lost his memories and became a good person.

"Look, we all want to help-" Kakine continued.

Kanzaki put a hand up toward Kakine to quiet him. "And what you're saying is somewhat useful, but…" Kanzaki's eyes narrowed, tension coiling in her muscles like a spring ready to snap. "What did you mean Index is involved?"

Ren's gaze was intense, almost piercing through the dim light of the room. "We believe FORMULA intends to exploit Index and her vast knowledge to summon Ruin," he said, each word measured and heavy. "Their endgame is to create a god, and it seems they want Index's knowledge."

Kanzaki's voice rose with fury. "That's absurd!"

Ren's tone softened, but the urgency in his voice remained. "Kanzaki, that's exactly why I needed you here. What could make Index so vital to their plans?"

Kanzaki remained calm, but Ren could tell she wrestled with the gravity of the situation. Her thoughts raced, but she remained focused. "If I had to guess, it's her knowledge of the grimoires," she finally said, her voice tight. "But there's more… Index has a perfect memory. Her mind would be an 'infinite' source of that Shadow World. "

Ren's expression froze, the color draining from his face as realization dawned. "She… has perfect memory?" His voice wavered, the shock clear in his eyes.

"Yes," Kanzaki confirmed, her gaze locked on Ren's, searching for understanding. "Every spell, every word, every moment… it's all there, imprinted in her mind."

A memory hit Ren like a sledgehammer. Index's voice echoed in his mind from their conversation a few days prior: 'I'm sorry, but I just can't remember.'

She hadn't said she didn't know. She hadn't said she wasn't conscious. Not only that, but she had said she couldn't remember.

The realization was a cold, hard knot in Ren's stomach, twisting tighter with every passing second. Could it be? Was he connecting dots that shouldn't be connected, or was there something more sinister at play?

Negative thoughts formed.

"Amamiya!" Kanzaki's stern voice sliced through his spiraling thoughts like a blade, sharp and commanding. "Did you figure something out?"

Ren's lips parted, but no words came out. His mind was a storm of half-formed thoughts and unsettling possibilities, none of which he could put into words.

The silence between them grew heavy, charged with the weight of unspoken fears. Kanzaki watched him, her frustration simmering, but underneath it, a flicker of worry about the man standing before her.

"No," Ren finally broke the ice. "It wasn't important. Are there any questions?"

There was no way Ren could say what had just occurred to him, especially to Kanzaki. He felt like he completely failed her. Although never direct, she knew that she and Stiyl had left her under his and Touma's care.

Some time had passed, and Ren continued to answer the others' questions as best he could. He tried to be as direct as possible, but even his knowledge had its limits. He was desperate to ensure they wouldn't fall under anyone's control if it could be avoided. Furthermore, he hoped that this discussion would help them avoid a fate nearly worse than death.

"That about covers everything," Ren said, clearing his throat. "I don't think there's much more to add."

"I gotta tell you," Kakine replied, "this has been one of the worst mornings I've had in a while."

Ren could only stare at the Dark Matter Esper in silence.

"Well, you explained what it can do and somewhat how it forms," Misaka said. "But how do we stop it?"

Ren recalled how he had summoned Satanael and put a massive bullet in the God of Control's... brain? Was that the right term? Regardless, he knew he had felt Satanael in his soul, but could he summon him again? It had required breaking Arsene's chains and the faith of nearly the entire planet.

"Well," Ren began, "the last time we defeated Ruin, it involved putting a bullet in its head."

Everyone in the room stared at him, deadpan.

"Are you serious?" Accelerator was baffled. "All this talk about how dangerous and crazy this thing is, and you're telling me all it takes is a damn bullet to the head?"

"It sounds a lot easier said than done," Ren replied. "Trust me."

The frizzy-haired boy's tone shifted the mood from confusion to a grave feeling. Everyone was well aware of how strong Ren was. His power could rival some of the strongest Espers and Magicians, yet he was hesitant and concerned. His response seemed flat, so how hard was it actually to just shoot the vessel?

"But if the world changes and Shadows start appearing everywhere, how do we fight them?" Misaka asked. "Didn't you say that only Persona users can touch Shadows?"

Ren had forgotten he'd mentioned that to Misaka.

"That's what I thought, and it still holds true to some extent," Ren said, scratching his neck. "But Kanzaki might have disproved that. I want to believe it's because of the Persona presence that was near her, but maybe it's her Saint abilities that allow her to do that. She did also get a phantom thief outf–"

"Anyway!" Kanzaki cut him off before he could finish.

"Really!?" Misaka's eyes lit up. "Do we get one too?"

'She really is just a kid, isn't she? All this talk about the world ending, and she's still excited about the possibility of getting a thief outfit,' Ren thought.

"You're telling me I'm going to have one of those awful outfits too?" Accelerator was annoyed, but he didn't shout like Ren thought he would. "I might as well let the end of the world happen before I'm caught dead wearing something like you two."

Accelerator pointed at Akechi and Ren as he finished speaking. Akechi did nothing but let out a soft smile. Ren was probably thinking back to when Akechi had beaten Accelerator in their skirmish some time ago.

' I hope Akechi knows that isn't nearly how strong Accelerator is.'

Looking back at Misaka, as he left her question unanswered, Ren let out a tiny laugh, albeit forced.

"You might get an outfit," Ren humored her. "But let's not focus on that right now. What I need is for you all to stay close to me. More importantly, be on guard if I send you a call or text when things start to go down—though, you might see it happening before I can even reach out."

"So, what's the plan now?" Akechi asked.

"All we can do is wait," Ren said, standing up again. "I'm going to visit Touma."

Ren managed to convince everyone else to let him go alone. He said he wanted to go see if Touma had woken up. Index hadn't updated him, but he didn't really expect her to, considering how distraught she had looked when she arrived at the hospital. It was cold outside, strangely so considering how warm the past week was.

Ren didn't really want to think as hard right now. The conversation with everyone had somewhat drained his social battery. All he could do was walk and stare at the ground. He wasn't really in the mood to grapple through the city right now. Feeling normal and doing normal people things brought him a sense of peace.

As he continued walking, he took in the beauty of Academy City once more. He just couldn't help but be in awe. Despite every atrocity committed here, what they put their students through, and how hard they had to push themselves to become stronger, there were good people here. Everyone he considered a friend had an innate desire to help people.

But there was another reason why he wanted to walk.

Deep in his heart, he knew that if he were to succeed, he'd never see anyone he met here again. The weight of knowing that dragged Ren down as if it were going to drown him. In a sense, they were just like him. Teenagers who had people they wanted to protect. As much as he loved life as Joker, sometimes he just wanted to live as Ren Amamiya. The past nearly three years felt like there was almost no balance.

As the black-haired boy felt tears welling in his eyes, he kept walking.

The hospital was only about a fifteen-minute walk. Yet every step he took felt like another thought in his mind. It seemed impossible to just go and have a good time with his friends. One thing always led to another, and it broke Ren's heart a bit, to see all the suffering his friends kept going through.

"Amamiya!" A girl shouted.

Ren took about three more steps until he realized it was his name being called out. He stopped, but he didn't turn around.

"What are you doing?"

It was Saten. Despite everyone he got to know well, Saten wasn't one of them. She seemed like a nice, outgoing girl, but like some others, she was a Level 0. Not that it mattered, but in an Esper-filled city, one would think how awful it would feel to be one of the few without an ability. But It didn't really get to her, not that Ren noticed at least.

"Oh," Ren said, his voice breaking a bit. He cleared his throat and continued. "I was just going to go see a friend."

Ren still didn't turn around, but he could hear Saten start to walk toward him.

"I haven't seen you since the Daihasei," Saten said. "Has it really been that long?"

"I guess it has," Ren said. "Sorry that I never really kept up with you."

"Don't sweat it, I didn't keep up with you either."

"How have you been?"

"I've been doing well," Saten replied. "School is frustrating as always, I hope you share that sentiment."

"Absolutely I do," Ren replied. "I've never been one to study for too long."

"Right!? I feel like there are so many other things that we could be doing. Writing some words on a piece of paper just seems so boring compared to what we could actually be doing in our lives."

Ren couldn't help but smile. Despite his slight joy, he couldn't help but envy Saten. She wasn't involved. she didn't need to worry about a mission going sideways or if her closest friends wouldn't come back home.

Negative thoughts.

"You mean finding more urban legends to debunk and or prove?" Ren said, trying his best to sound enthusiastic.

"How did you know that?" Saten said, with a very exaggerated questioning face. "Have you been spying on me after all?"

"I just heard from Uiharu, that's all," Ren said.

It was getting harder to keep a straight face. He could feel his eyes burn. He couldn't help but think about what could happen to Saten as she continued to talk with him. Would she still be herself? What would happen if he bonded with her right now?

Negative thoughts.

"I see… so you kept up with Uiharu but not me?" Saten was talking in a very facetious tone. "Is there something wrong with me?"

Ren didn't know how to reply.

"I'm just messing with you!" Saten said, realizing she had made the conversation a bit awkward.

"I know."

"Then why didn't you say anything?"

"I didn't know what to say."

"You could've literally said anything. I haven't forgotten your 'smooth' talking."

"Now didn't seem appropriate."

Saten didn't reply.

All this time here, every drop of blood and sweat felt wasted. He felt that he could defeat it, but why would he even risk fighting it if it could be prevented? He wasn't fully invested in the conversation. It made him feel worse that he couldn't even give Saten his full attention.

Negative thoughts.

It built up, much more than Ren had anticipated. The idea of his friends potentially becoming products of Ruin, even only for a bit. He didn't even want to see it. He beat Ruin before, though, why was he so sad?

Tears fell.

Saten fell silent, but her expression remained light. She didn't look surprised, and she didn't pity him. "Well, you seem a bit off today. Everything okay?"

Ren hesitated, he rubbed his eyes dry. "Yeah, just... tired, I guess."

Saten nodded, seemingly satisfied with the answer. She knew that forcing him to talk would just make him feel worse. "Well, if you ever need to talk—or if you just want to hear about the latest urban legend… I'm here."

There was always something about talking to a near stranger about very personal things that seemed to be one of the best reliefs in the world. Although Ren didn't directly tell her, she was helping him pour out whatever emotions he was feeling.

Ren smiled, a bit more genuinely this time. "Thanks, Saten. I appreciate it."

"What are you going to do for Christmas?" Saten shifted the conversation suddenly.

"That's not for a couple of months," Ren scrunched his face in slight confusion.

"I know, but it's always good to plan in advance!"

The girl's aura shined brightly. She still donned the small flower on the left side of her head, but she wore a simple long black sleeve shirt with denim jeans and a pair of white sneakers. Ren didn't even realize how little he had paid attention to his surroundings, because he was right in front of the restaurant they had first met. It felt as if she was destined to talk to him, to bring him back to a sense of normalcy.

"Why don't you say your plans first?" Ren asked, feeling more inclined to converse.

"Nuh-uh," Saten said, waiving her index finger side to side while shaking her head. "That's not how that works. You go first."

Ren decided to relent. "Umm… I might go visit my family," Ren responded, his mind thought of everyone he met in Tokyo, and for a fleeting moment, his thoughts were filled with happiness.

Until they weren't.

"You can't leave the city without proper procedure, though!" Saten exclaimed.

"It's a good thing that the City wouldn't know about it," Ren said, coming up with a light jab at his own remark.

'And neither would anyone else here.'

"And you don't plan on taking me with you?" Saten said, yet another high-pitched exaggerated voice came from her. "Honestly, you're so mean."

"Anybody tell you that you do a good job at lifting spirits?" Ren said, feeling slightly less empty

She grinned. "Anytime. So, where are you off to? I didn't mean to take up too much of your time."

"I'm heading to the hospital to see Touma. I think Misaka might be there soon too if you want to come along."

Saten stayed quiet for a while, and then her face scrunched as she tilted her head.

"Who are Misaka and Touma?" Saten questioned.

Ren froze.

"Don't joke that like Saten," Ren said, finally speaking out.

"I'm not trying to be funny, though. You said that as if I should know who they are."

Ren looked at the sky. It was supposed to be early in the afternoon, but why was it so dark?

As Ren looked back down at Saten's face, he noticed the fire in her eyes was gone. Where her fun and giddy appearance was, there was now a stone-cold expression. It was subtle, but Ren recognized it. The image of all the people he saw almost three years ago was burned into his mind.

"Don't do this to me," Ren whispered, his voice breaking into a sob.

His eyes burned again, and his throat began to close. Maybe if he kept up contact with Saten, maybe if he talked to her a little sooner, things would be different.

He didn't even get to hear her Christmas plans.

Negative thoughts.

Ren raced toward the hospital, his heart pounding with the realization that Ruin was already beginning to take hold. Vohu Manah had begun fighting a Shadow a couple of meters away from the hospital. He could sense it creeping in, though he had thought they still had a few days. Now, there was no time for anything but getting everyone together to face whatever was coming. If it was Yaldabaoth, though he doubted it, they would need the combined strength of everyone he knew.

His top priority was getting Touma out of the building. Touma would be a prime target for Shadows, especially since his right hand would prevent Ruin from taking control of him. Ren didn't want to imagine what might have happened to Index, and he shuddered at the thought of Touma seeing her if she had indeed been taken over.

Landing on the rooftop, Ren burst through the door and practically flew down the stairs, his feet barely touching the steps as he rushed to the floor where Touma's room was. He sprinted to the last room at the end of the corridor, his breath coming in sharp, ragged gasps. The doctors and nurses were still performing their duties as if nothing was wrong, oblivious to the impending threat. Shadows could appear at any moment, but these people wouldn't be harmed—they'd already be under Ruin's control.

Ren flung the door to Touma's room open, only to find it empty. No trace of Touma or Index.

Panic surged through him as he raced to the reception desk. Why didn't Vohu Manah alert him?

"Excuse me, ma'am!" Ren's voice trembled with urgency. "Where is the patient who was in the last room down the left?"

The receptionist looked up, confusion clouding her face.

"Sir, that room has been unoccupied for the last…" She checked her computer. "Three days."

What?

Ren's mind reeled. It was happening. His friends were being erased, just as they had been before—only briefly, but it had been enough. They'd only come back because of Igor, Lavenza, and the power of the Wild Card. Without that…

He had to act fast.

Ren called Akechi as he bolted back to the rooftop. The phone rang, each tone dragging on agonizingly.

Click.

"Amamiya? It's happening, isn't it?" Akechi's voice was tense. "I'm starting to notice some weird things."

"It is!" Ren shouted into the phone, his voice strained with fear. "Is anyone still nearby? Touma is gone!"

"What!?" Akechi's shock was palpable. "Everyone left the dorm, but I don't know where they went."

"This can't be happening!"

A terrifying thought clawed its way back into Ren's mind, one that had haunted him since earlier.

He pulled out the MetaNav and opened the search bar.

"Please enter the target's name," the device prompted.

Ren hesitated, his stomach twisting with dread. This was the idea that made the most sense, but he prayed he was wrong.

"Index Librorum Prohibitorum," he whispered.

The device didn't respond immediately.

"Candidate found. Please enter the location and distortion."

'Why is this happening? I don't even know how to save her.' Ren thought, eyes closed, looking at the sky, and his lips quivering. The emptiness from earlier had returned.

Negative thoughts wouldn't end.
