This was inspired by one of R3DSPADES fanfiction called "A New Perspective." Now originally, I had an idea of a what if scenario of Batman getting Spider-Man's powers or what if Peter Parker and Bruce Wayne switched lives and then reading "A New Perspective" gave me well, a new perspective for this story and here we are.

I started cooking with the ingredients I had in the kitchen of this story.

So enjoy.

Origins Issue #01: Meet Your Hero

"I am a Lonely Hero," Nico sang to himself as the sixteen year old Native American teen was washing the dishes. He nodded his head to the music playing in his headphones. "Trying to fight my battles. Life likes to blow the cold wind. Sometimes it freezes my shadow. In the midst of all this darkness, I sacrifice my ego. There ain't no room for selfish, we do it for the people. When the night is taken over and the moonlight gets exposure, and the players have been chosen and it seems like fate has spoken. When it seems that your faith is broken, by the second losing focus-"

"How long have you been doing this?" asked a voice behind him.

Instinctively, Nico stops singing and feels embarrassed that someone has walked in on him singing to himself but reminded himself that he wasn't being judged for it. "Since I woke up." he replied to Rio Morales.

The Puerto Rico Hispanic woman crosses her arms and hums before asking. "And when did you wake up this time?"

"About ten minutes after Mr. Morales left for work," Nico replied. "Don't worry, I already had breakfast. Just doing this before heading to back to Visions."

"Well, I suppose that I don't need to remind you that you don't have to do this," Rio said. The Native American teen shrugged. "It gives me something to do when I wake up around 5:30."

Rio rolled her eyes. "Well, you didn't wake up Miles, did you?" she asked.

"Well, he woke up after I took a shower." Nico replied, drying off the last bowl and putting it away. "I think he asked me something about waking him up again before you woke up so he could a get a head start on eating breakfast and walking to school."

"Miles, you're too young to walk to school on your own!" Rio shouted down the hall. It was silent for a moment before the two heard a response.

"Nico!" a voice whined from the bedroom. "You said you'll wake me up!"

Nico chuckled before replying, "No, I said I'll think of it. And I told you that you had an hour before she woke up." He gives Rio a one arm hug and grabs his sweatshirt and backpack as he walks to the door. "Have a great day, Mrs. Morales."

"You too, Nico." Rio replied. "Give your grandfather my regards when you see him."

"Wait!" a ten year old boy stumbled out of his room, racing down the hall to hug the Native American teen. "See you Saturday."

Nico chuckled and ruffled Miles' hair. "Until then, Miles." he said warmly before walking out the door.

Nico pulled his sweatshirt down his torso as he walked down the hall and almost stumbled down the stairs before catching himself. He straightened himself and his sweater with a neon green bat symbol on the chest and then adjusted his hat while walking before pulling out his phone to pick a different song. This time he picked his Linkin Park playlist.

He hummed and mumbled some lyrics as he walked. He saw a TV with breaking news. Spider-Man saved the day earlier today. Nico smiled and looked around at the sky for a glimpse of the spider themed hero. He may be a fan of the DC comics, but he was always eager to get a glimpse of the real superheroes in action.

He slumped when he didn't see a sign of Spider-Man but didn't feel too disheartened. He understood that Spider-Man was looking for people in need or crime that needed to be stopped. And Nico was neither in need of help and crime wasn't happening around him.

He sighed and forced himself to smile as he approached Visions academy. He had begun going to this academy for about a month now. And part of him was starting to regret it.

Then again, that's what most teenagers think when they start going to a new school.

But his grandfather had him enrolled so it wasn't that bad.

Still, it was hard for him to get used to going to a school that was like three buildings big with like six different floors though. Nico seriously missed his other school where it had only 79 students, six teachers and three janitors, if only for the simplicity of it. Here, the schedule was complicated. Breakfast. Go to homeroom. Go upstairs. Go down the hall. Eight minute break. Go down stairs. Go to the second building. Go to the third building. Up stairs and down stairs. And make sure you're not leaving any of your stuff. Nearly a month and a half and Nico still had trouble NOT leaving his thermo-flask in a classroom.

And lunch. Lunch was the only thing in this school that wasn't complicated.

Unless you want some peace and quiet when you want to read some DC comics. And then there's-

"Nicholas Thomas!"

That.

Nico sighed. "It's Nicodemus Tomeo." he said as he looked up to the school security guard. "If you're going to say my full name, get it right."

"I know you snuck out of school last Friday." the man said, crossing his arms and ignoring what the Native American teen had said. "And are those comics school appropriate?"

Nico rolled his eyes. He is starting to get the impression that the guard didn't like him in general and just wanted to look for a reason to have Nico expelled. "One, it's not sneaking out if I have permission to leave for the weekend." He holds up his Batman comics. "Two, these comics are about superheroes. They're not about romance or anything of the sorts. They just have action, drama, action, drama and action. If they had something else, I wouldn't have them."

He gives a look of defiance to the guard. "Besides, do you have any proof that a I snuck out?" he asked mockingly.

". . . I am sure that I'll find you on camera feed-" the guard tried to say confidently but was interrupted by Nico laughing and then he began walking away.

"Well, if you find any footage, let me know." he said, opening his comic book again and continued reading as he walked away. "Until then, your so-called suspicions and claims won't get me to come to your office or call my grandfather. Until then, good day Larry Dale." He made air quotes before giving him a two finger salute at the end.

The guy reminded Nico of the main character from the Night At The Museum movies without any enjoyable personality whatsoever and the Native American teen kept calling him that for his own amusement.

"Good luck finding footage," Nico muttered and called the guard a few slangs he knew in his Native language. (He more than likely pronounced them wrongly so I won't spell them out yet.) He saw some of the other students looking at him and it sounded like they were gossiping about him.

That didn't matter to Nico. They didn't know him personally and he didn't even know less than half of them. Their gossip and opinions didn't matter whatsoever to him.

He looked at his phone's clock and realized he had a few minutes until lunch ended. He looked into his bag and realized he needed one of his textbooks in his locker.

Unlike the others, he asked to have a locker without a dial lock so he can have a pad lock with a key and a Godzilla key chain he has on his person.

He opened his locker and pulled a textbook for Quantum Physics (His next class.) before closing it. He turned away before bumping into the person next to him.

"Oof! Sorry," Nico said dismissively. "Didn't know someone took the locker next to mi-" He paused as he got a better look of the person he bumped into.

IIIIIIII-I just died in your arms tonight.

The first thing that came to Nico's mind was Huh, a new kid in Visions. That's a surprise. Next was Well, she's sure a beauty, if I'm honest. He shook his head to pay attention to what she said.

It must have been something you said

"Sorry, I didn't think you'd turn in my direction." the blonde girl said apologetically. She seemed a few inches shorter than him. That was a given since he was tall for his age. Something that was a family thing on his mom's side.

Nico waved his hand dismissively. "It's fine. Bumping into another student is low on worse things that could happen in school." he said before asking, "So, are you new here?"

The girl seemed to stiffen for a second. "What gave away that I was new?" she asked in response.

Nico shrugged. "I don't give much thought to students here unless they want to be my friend, but I do my best to recognize their faces." he replied. He didn't really get why she seemed tense for a second but he dismissed it. "That and like I said, no one's really took the locker to the right of mine."

"Yeah, I'm new." the girl smiled nervously. "I, uh enrolled over the weekend."

"Cool, call me Nico." the Native American teen nodded his head. "How about you, blondie?" He subtly gave her being a look up and down.

If she noticed his look over, she didn't say anything. "I'm Gwwwww-wwwaaannda." Nico rose an eyebrow and stared blankly before laughing.

"Sorry," he said between chuckles. "But your face looked hilarious. But seriously, your name is Gwanda?"

"Yes!" the blonde, Gwanda, nodded her head frantically. "It's African. South African." she added next. "No accent though, I was raised here." He didn't know why she emphasized on that but oh well.

"Hey, I'm not judging." Nico raised his hands. "I used to live in Idaho before going here and I'm named after a Biblical and historical figures. I ain't going to judge a beautiful girl like you because you have a South African name."

"Oh really?" Gwanda rose an eyebrow curiously. Nico almost rolled his brown eyes but didn't feel too much annoyance. She was new and so far their interaction was going great. It was natural she'd be curious about his name. "Who are they?"

Now, Nico rolled his eyes in a playful manner. "Oh boy, here we go." he muttered. "Nicodemus was someone who spoke to Jesus, asking if he could be reborn or something like that." he explained. "That's my first name. My middle name , which is shared with my grandpa, Speaking Eagle comes from my great great Grandfather, a Nez Perce chief that traveled across the country to D.C. to plead with the President back in the late 1800's to allow his people to return back to their homeland in what is now Idaho. And if you think that's something, one of my cousins' name translates to Chipmunk and another means 'I'm thinking.'"

"Is that so?" Gwanda asked with a smile. "Yeah and some kids often called me Romeo once they read Tomeo next to Romeo." Nico added and briefly thought of other 'nicknames' given to him by other kids mainly by some bullies but was pulled out of it when he heard the blonde girl giggling a little.

"Don't call me that," Nico said half serious. He wouldn't mind it, if she did, for some strange reason.

"No promises," Gwanda chuckled. Nico rolled his eyes again in a playful manner.

"You know, I'd ask you out if I didn't have a shit ton of homework." He stated bluntly.

"Wow, very straight forward, aren't you?" Gwanda rose her eyebrows at him.

Nico shrugged. "I'm honest when I want to." he proclaimed. "Like I didn't think of finding blondes attractive in real life but you've changed my mind just a little." he smiles while holding his index and thumb hardly an inch away.

Gwanda giggled, brushing her hair behind her ear. The two teens stared at each other before warning bell rang above them.

"Saved by the bell," Nico remarked. "See you around, Gwanda." he drawled her name out playfully. "Welcome to Visions Academy. The place that will block your visions with boat loads of homework and assignments."

"See you around," Gwanda repeated and added, "Nico. Catch you later."

"Oh, trust me, Gwanda. This eagle isn't going to be easy to catch." Nico remarked with a chuckle. Then he noticed that she had the same Quantum Physics textbook as he did. "Oh hey, look. We're both going to have Quantum Physics."

"Oh! So we do," Gwanda said in surprise. The two teens walked side by side to their next class, while giving each other not so subtle looks.

Well, I guess this school just got more interesting, Nico thought to himself.

Too bad I can't tell him my real name, 'Gwanda' thought to herself.

The week flew by relatively quick after that. Nico and Gwanda would interact more during the lunch and breaks and tell each other more about themselves.

Like Nico liked the DC comics and superheroes like Batman and Superman and showed her his drawings and sketches of the superheroes and sci-fi movie monsters like Godzilla and aliens like the Predator and Xenomorph.

She told him that she used to be part of a punk rock band before coming to Visions.

"Oh really?" Nico rose an eyebrow during lunch. "Let me guess, lead singer?" he asked with a teasing smile.

Gwanda chuckled bashfully. "No. I'd sing sometimes but I was a drummer actually." she explained.

"Really? Cool. Still got the drums?" Nico asked out of curiosity. She frowned in response and shook her head. He nods slowly in response. He looked thoughtful for a moment. "Well, if I get the time, I'll play some Native songs for ya on my own hand drum."

"You have a hand drum?" Gwanda asked.

Nico scratched the back of his neck with a bashful smile. "Mom wanted me to have something of Idaho before I moved here and Dad thought it'd be best if I made it myself." Then his smile melted away and he took a trip down "Not So Happy" memory lane before shaking his head.

"I'd like that." Gwanda smiled softly. Nico smiled again, now focusing on the pleasant present and not the past.

And then the earthquakes began around Friday.

"Earthquakes in New York?" Nico's grandfather Cecil Speaking Eagle Corbett asked when his grandson explained it. "That's a new one. It's probably that troublemaker Shocker doing something."

"I have considered that," Nico replied. And he did. He had been in close vicinity to the infamous villain known as The Shocker when he first came to New York. "That guy or the Superhero called Quake."

"Heh." Cecil snorted. "I kind of miss the days where the only crazy thing that changed the world was Captain America. We didn't have to worry about these supervillains popping up like tic tacks. Them and those vampires are the real menaces to society, no matter that old Jameson coot spits from the Bugle."

Nico rolled his eyes. "Grandpa, for the last time. Vampires are NOT real." At least that's much as what Nico knew about the world he lived in. Sure there's Spider-Man, Daredevil, the Punisher, Elecktra, Moon Knight and Iron Fist with the X-Men, but he's pretty certain that Vampires don't exist anywhere in New York or the world at large.

(Which meant that Blade was good at his job. Very good at his job.) (1)

"Ha, shows what you know," Cecil laughed at Nico's statement. Nico rolled his eyes in response but smiled. His grandpa was one of the few people he couldn't feel exasperated or annoyed with for anything. He felt nothing but respect for his grandfather.

Which comes from being raised with the rule 'Respect your Elders' in your family. And Cecil was worthy every ounce of Nico's respect.

"Well, at least these earthquakes are not seriously hurting people," Nico said as he chopped lettuce and cabbage with a kitchen knife. Which was true, as far as he knew. Other than shaking buildings, the worse thing that happened related to these earthquakes were people losing their footing or things falling off walls.

"True that," Cecil concurred. "Could you pass the salt and pepper?"

"Sure. Here you go." Nico complied handing him the mentioned shakers and he mixed them with his chili. "Thank you kindly, Speaking Eagle. By the way, how is school going for you?"

"Well, the schedule's still hard for me to get use to." Nico replied. "But at least I stopped walking to the wrong class this week. Got this essay for something about myself and I got to admit, I'm hitting a brick wall with it."

Cecil chuckled in response. "How about your brothers? Have you spoken to them yet?"

Nico stiffened a little. "I spoke to them yesterday." he replied after a moment. "They did say they may have saved enough money to get plane tickets and come over during winter break."

"Oh? That's good." Cecil declared, smiling. "My three youngest grandchildren, back together again."

"Sounds surreal," Nico remarked. "Margret is coming with them, from what they've told me." he added. "Stella said the same thing. Kyle hasn't said anything yet. He's probably stuck up with work."

Then the teen felt his phone vibrate. He shredded the cheese a bit more before pulling his phone out of his pocket. It was a message from Miles asking if the Native American teen wanted to hang out with him and his uncle Aaron Davis.

Alright, I'll come over after dinner, he replied.

Ooh! You guys making Indian Tacos?

You know it. ;)

. . .

. . . Can you bring a couple?

Sure thing, M. XD

"Hey, Grandpa, would it be alright if I go out to hang with Miles after dinner?" Nico asked. "And bring him and Aaron a couple of tacos?"

"As long as you aren't caught doing anything you shouldn't." Cecil replied half jokingly. Nico chuckled in response.

After dinner, Nico climbed out the living room window and down the fire escape. He grabbed onto the ladder before jumping off and somersaulting in the air and landing on his feet.

He sighed, mentally patting himself on the shoulder before rubbing his shins. "Ow," he muttered. It had been a few weeks since he had done something like that.

3 Hours later. . .

By the time Nico arrived at Aaron Davis' apartment, the mentioned man and Miles were eating popcorn while watching a movie. He climbed the fire escape and knocked on the window.

"Ni'Mi Puu Tacos Delivery Service for two." Nico said jokingly as he held up a couple of take out boxes in hand as he climbed in through the window.

He hands the two their Indian Tacos that was made the way they both liked them, asked Miles about his day at school and vice versa.

"Other than the security guard and the strange earthquakes, this week was fun." Nico explained.

"Really?" Aaron asked.

"Yeah, met a new girl at the school," Nico shrugged nonchalantly. "She seems nice, funny name too."

"Oohh! You thinking of asking her out?" Miles asked teasingly.

"I'm considering it when I don't have a boat load of homework." Nico replied, blushing a little while trying to remain nonchalant.

"You should try to do the shoulder touch." Aaron said. "Works wonders."

"Maybe in your time," Nico remarked.

"No, no. I'm serious." Aaron spoke with a chuckle. "Worked for Miles' mother when Jeff did it."

Nico rolled his eyes. "Alright, you guys had your fill." he said, moving to the window. "The moon is out, time for the bats to fly out."

Shortly after he grabs the bag of supplies, Nico climbed out the window and down the fire escape, Miles and Aaron followed after him.

"By the way, how's therapy?" Aaron asked.

"Used to think it was a waste of time," Nico replied without missing a beat. He paused and glanced up. "But it gives a breather for the week as a whole."

The three walked down to the subway and traveled to an abandoned tunnel and station that was fenced off, so this was completely not legal.

But as Stan Pines said in Gravity Falls, as long as there's no cops around, anything's legal.

Aaron flipped a switch and lights revealed that the walls were sprayed with graffiti.

"BROOKLYN!" Miles shouted and his voice briefly echoed throughout the station.

"Holy chalupa," Nico said. "This place looks like it's meant for basketball games."

"A lot of history is on these walls." Aaron said in awe. The three share a look before Nico holds two cans of spray paint in his hands.

Unaware to them, a large spider with a number 42 was creeping on the walls above them. With a human like intelligence, it eyed the three humans below it as they began to spray different colors on the walls. Its eight eyes landed on the one that was younger than the adult and older than the child.

The spider clicked its fangs before it glitched slightly and then it crawled down to the ground.

By the time it reached the ground, the three humans had finished painting the walls.

"Freedom is when there is no responsibility, that means there will be no disappointment and no expectations."

Nico sprayed a bat symbol over the word responsibility while Miles and Aaron painted a silhouette of Miles over 'expectations.'

Nico sighed with a proud nod at the art they have done. A part of him wished his siblings were looking at it with him, but he understood that Stella and Kyle had their jobs and the twins had made a life for themselves on the other side of the country.

Aaron suddenly looked to his phone. "Ah. . . Sorry, boys. Got to roll. Nick, you walk Miles back home for me?" he asked.

"Sure thing, Aaron." Nico nodded. "Just let me take a picture of this."

The Native American teen went to pick up his phone while the spider was crawling up his arm. Nico straightened up and turned to the fresh graffiti and started snapping pictures before he felt something on his neck. He moved to touch his neck before he felt something with multiple legs touch his finger.

Pulling his hand back, he saw a spider on his hand. ". . . You don't look like you're from America." he said slowly. "You from Australia or something? Are you a pet spider or something?"

The spider would be wagging its eyebrows at him if it had eyebrows so instead it bared its fangs at him before sinking them into the skin of his knuckles.

"Ow!" Nico hissed, waving his hand and shaking the spider off. "Mother Fletcher, why you go and do that?" he exclaimed and glared down at the spider as it landed on the ground. "I didn't do jack shit to you!"

"Uh. . . Nico, are you cursing a spider?" Miles asked.

"Yes, as a matter of fact, I was," Nico said without shame. He glared down at the spider before walking away. "Wasn't doing anything to it and it bit me. Must be racist."

"But. . . spiders aren't racist." Miles said in confusion as they left.

Unaware to them, the spider glitched like a video game character before returning to normal. If this hurt the little arachnid, it didn't show it.

And that concludes Issue # 01.

What do you think?

I was thinking of introducing a dog that would eat the spider after it bit Nico, but decided not too. Not yet at least.

1) Just foreshadowing the future. Even more so when Nico believes that vampires don't exist.

Next Issue # 02: Just a normal spider. . . Right?

Until then.

Take care of yourselves.

Peace.
