A/N: Holy heck, I am so sorry for not posting since...uh, over a year? ^^; I've been going through all kinds of stress for the last several months, mainly involving with health issues with my closest family. But, I hope to change that and get a couple of short ones out. Longer ones will eventually come back, don't worry! And I've also got a few requested prompts to get to as well. I'll get them out as soon as possible. In the mean time, enjoy this little DnD inspired oneshot that I thought up quickly to help cope with the fact that the group I was with has pretty much collapsed and the campaign will be going to waste (I'm not upset at all...nope, not me...okay, maybe a little).
Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's or any of its characters. The only thing I have are the OCs. This is also inspired a bit by DnD (or I guess just any fantasy based game, if you prefer). Also, you know, mild language 'cause Ren's a potty mouth.
AU Prompt- Reckless Mage:
(Yusei's POV)
"Ow ow ow ow, that hurts!" Ren hissed when I applied the medicine.
"It wouldn't hurt if you hadn't run out in the middle of the battlefield," I scolded, setting down the medicine to get the bandages.
"Hey, not like anyone else was going to offer to be a distraction."
"I don't think running out of the trees and yelling, 'Come at me, b****es,' is what we were intending."
"Well, it worked. It got their attention."
I sighed. "You're not getting the point, Ren. It would make sense if you were a fighter or barbarian, not a magic user. You can't exactly take a lot of hits or use weapons that are close range. A bolt of lightning would have worked better than rushing like a mad man." I started wrapping up his arm.
"Yeah, well, I don't like having to strike from the shadows. That's what rogues do. I'd rather do things my way rather than what's expected of me to do. I don't like being a burden to the group."
I stopped what I was doing. Ever since meeting this mage, Ren has done everything the opposite of what I've seen other mages and magic users do. Instead of being in the back or far enough away to avoid enemy swords, he's in the front-line of a fight, using spells a bit too close to be considered safe for him to be casting. If it hadn't been for the staff he carried or the spells he cast, I would have thought he was some sort of fighter class. I gave another sigh.
"No one thinks you're a burden, Ren, but you worry me with your battle tactics. If we didn't know such fantastic healers, I'd lose you. I'm still afraid of losing you even with that safety net. Sometimes all it takes is just one attack and that's it."
(Ren's POV)
"..." I didn't say anything. I mean, kind of hard to as I know all too well how much one attack can do since the same thing happened to my older triplet brother a few years ago. An opponent's sword had pierced right through his lung. Aly was still a novice in healing and couldn't fully stop the bleeding. He passed within moments of the injury. It's always been a sore subject between us, considering I had been the one to wander from the group and Aly couldn't save his life at the time.
I found my voice and answered after a moment of silence. "You don't have to tell me that, Yusei. I can't guarantee I'll completely change my tactics, but I'll try to calm it down as much as I can."
"Well, I guess that's a start at least," Yusei said, pulling me close. "Though next time you get hurt, I'm leaving you in the hands of one of our healers."
"Which one? We've got like three, remember?"
"The one who scares you the most."
"...you wouldn't..."
"I would."
"...well shit..."
A/N: Sorry for going silent for, like, over a year. ^^; Been kind of going in and out of writer's block. I'm actually a bit more active on deviantART. Also, thanks to creating Ren, I've been coming up with other canon/OC yaoi pairings. X'D I might get around to making stories for them, but we'll see. I still need to flesh them out a bit more. I've also got a few oneshot requests to get back to as well. I'll get back to work as soon as I can with rewrites and more shorts. Until next time, see ya!
