A/N: So, um, I might be revealing a relative of Ren's that just got planned out a bit. I was planning it to be an AU for a 'haha' moment, but considering thinking through a few things with the current revision of Dragons' Souls, it kind of started to make sense.
Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. That goes to the respective creator(s). I only claim my OCs. Also, don't forget to bring the soap for Ren's potty mouth.
Surprising Relations
(Yusei's POV)
"Mom, you sure it's a good idea to invite them over? You know how uncle is about me dropping out, and that was years ago!" we overheard Ren saying on the phone. "Hey, I am getting better. I didn't punch anyone at the last get-together for Dad's family...even though I really wanted to."
"I thought he got over the family drama," Crow said.
"With his parents. I guess extended family is another matter," I replied.
"Fine, I'll try to be civil. Mm-hmm. Bye." Once he hung up, he threw his head back and drew out the f-bomb for almost a minute.
"Wow, not even stopping for breath," Jack stated.
"Shut up, I'm too pissed to start another fight," Ren grumbled, crossing his arms.
"You never mentioned an uncle from your mom's side before," I told Ren. "Or any family member from her."
"Yeah, it's a bit messy from Mom's side of things. From what I've been told, Mom and her brothers were orphaned when they were still kids, the rest of the family took the inheritance and dumped her brothers at an orphanage. She was taken in by an aunt who wanted a daughter, so she had been raised separately from them throughout their childhood and teen years. Of course, she never forgave the rest of their family for that and cut them out once she could take care of herself and Chelsea."
"Yeesh, with family like that, who needs enemies?" Crow commented. "Do they even care?"
"No clue. Never met any of 'em. I'd have to ask AJ if they even attempted contact after she left. Anyway, she got in contact with her younger brother not too long after dropping off the toxic family and has kept in touch since then. I just get bugged about the fact that one of my uncles can't let it go that I dropped from Duel Academy."
"Even with knowing what happened?" I asked.
"Yep. I think he just wanted to boast about having a nephew or niece that had enough skills to be the next top dog in dueling."
"Well, he'll just have to get used to you dating the top of the game, then," Jack retorted.
"You wouldn't be saying that if your uncle was Seto Kaiba."
Jack and Crow spit out their drinks and I stared wide-eyed at Ren. "Wait, your uncle is Seto Kaiba?"
"Yep."
"Since when?!" Jack and Crow yelled.
"Uh, ever? It's one of the reasons why I don't usually mention who my mom's related to. As soon as I say my uncles are the Kaiba brothers, they flip their shit."
"With good reason! Were you even planning on telling us? Telling Yusei?" Jack said.
"Yes, but with everything with the WRGP and the Ghost incident, you really think I was going to put extra mental strain on him by saying, 'Oh, hey, by the way. My uncle is Seto Kaiba, head of KaibaCorp. No pressure, right?'" Ren replied. "Besides, considering what happened with Micheal, I kind of got used to hiding that little family connection."
"Well, I appreciate you telling us now," I put in. "Though, I never would have guessed that."
"I mean, AJ kind of seems more like him with her blue eyes and more stoic personality, so I can see why people look at me weird."
"Any other famous person you're related to you'd like to mention? Your dad's not secretly the cousin to Yugi Moto?" Crow joked.
"Dude, I'd never leave my house if I was related to him. Though I sometimes wondered if Eric wasn't."
A/N: I swear, when I created Ren, I had no intention on him being related to Seto Kaiba, but after throwing around the idea enough, I kind of found it funny enough to have it be a part of his character. Also, it just seemed to make sense in an upcoming chapter of Dragons' Souls based on a dream I had that made me overhaul a lot of the story. What do you guys think?
