A/N: So this sparked up because of a game I've been playing a lot of recently (Cult of the Lamb) and this is sort of a teaser of if I can get around to writing a full blown story. Granted, I might have to put it on AO3 as uh...might have a lot of 'not safe for work' sort of scenes. Also, while it is inspired by Cult of the Lamb, I'm not going to have it be an actual crossover as much of the story that's cropped in my head deviates a LOT from the game. This kind of depends on if I can get enough inspiration to stick and keep writing it. Plus, there's some other stories on here I gotta focus on before that. Anyway, hope you enjoy this little teaser!
Disclaimer: I do not own Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. That goes to the respective owner. I only claim my OCs. Also, this is loosely inspired by Cult of the Lamb and does not fully represent cults/religions. And a wee bit of out of character bits from Yusei.
Dark Cult AU- Private Sermon:
(Ren's POV)
"...and that will conclude today's sermon," I stated, closing the text. "Continue your tasks until sundown and rest for tomorrow." Everybody got up out of their seats and started heading out of the temple.
I let out a loud sigh, checking the time from the sundial behind. Looks like I'll have a bit of time to head out into the wilds and find more of those fragments. There's plenty of meat and vegetables for the cooks to fix for everyone while I'm gone out. Just hope it won't take too long, I thought I put away the book under the podium.
"Excuse me, leader?" a voice spoke up.
"Hm?" I replied.
"A few of the shelters collapsed. We need a hand in getting them back up before dark."
"All right. I'll be right- agh!" The mark at the back of my neck sent a sharp sting, indicating the arrival of the one who had given me it.
'Ren, I require your assistance,' came Yusei's voice inside my head.
"Um...Leader Mori?"
"G-Give me a second. I'll be right there." The follower shrugged and headed out. I turned away from the entrance to make sure no one coming in could see the red blossoming on my face. 'You really pick the worst times to mention that,' I sent back, trying to at least give the impression of being angry. Hard to really be intimidating to a being that's essentially a god, though.
'Hm? Did I interrupt?'
'In a sense. Shelters fell in and I got to help fix them with the followers.'
'Aw, can't that wait? I've been feeling rather lonely.' Gods, did he have to use that tone in the link?!
'Look, I'll need a few minutes before I can come in, okay? I don't want to exactly leave the followers to dry. Rather not feel the other end of a noose or even being burnt alive.'
'Hm, very well then. But might want to hurry or might rethink the punishment even more.'
As soon as I felt the link power down, I went to calming myself down for a moment. Don't need anyone bringing up questions I'd rather not answer. How in hell do you explain to your followers you're screwing the very god they're worshiping? Yeah, I'd rather not get either weird looks or killed for heresy. Things tended to be tense when I had to venture out for a few days and not be reachable. I'm not adding that to my plate.
Once I was sure I had cleared my head, I took a deep breath in and headed out of the chapel. Looking for the fragments of the past will need to wait until tomorrow.
The rebuilt shelters were done right as dusk had set. I made sure everything was stable before heading back into the chapel for the private backroom. I kept it locked to prevent any disturbances to Yusei during the days he was visiting. Also, it was the perfect place to keep the fragments safe when I go venturing out.
As soon as I stepped in and started locking the room from the inside, I felt a pair of arms pull me back. I gave a sharp yelp at being pulled back, dropping the key that was in the lock. I knew it wasn't an intruder as the feathers that brushed the side of my face proved it was.
"About time," Yusei stated, loosening his grip a bit so I could turn around.
"Well, can't rush keeping roofs over peoples' heads," I retorted. "It tends not to end well if they fall in too quickly."
He hummed in response. "Then I hope you aren't too tired right now. I do expect to have the time I spent waiting compensated."
Make that looking for the fragments will need to wait until the day after tomorrow. I might be late for the next morning sermon.
(Scene Redacted to keep 'T' rating)
(Yusei's POV)
I pulled the covers over Ren after he faded to sleep. I looked over at the growing mosaic in the corner of the room. It won't be long now. Once the pieces are back together, I'll fix what we had failed to do in the previous life and bring the world back to peace. Nothing will remain of this dark world...so why do I fear the day he finds the last piece of the puzzle?
A/N: I entirely have to blame not only the comic dubs of Cult of the Lamb but also the recent update to the game Sins of the Flesh (or, I guess the proper term is the s*x update XD). I might fiddle with an outline to this sometime this year but not sure if I'll get a working fic started until I get further in the current ones (I mean, when was the last time I updated Dragons' Souls and I'm working on an expanded/updated beginning again X'D). Well, see you in the next one!
