"WAAAAAAAAHHH!"

Reimu covered her ears for about the 10th time in one day. She had already lost count after 4 but she could swear, she was getting deafer by the minute.

"Tokiko! Shhh! You'll bother the neighbors and your mother won't like that," informed Reimu in a hushed tone. "Here, do you want this book?"

She handed the bird youkai a brightly colored picture book and it seemed to have calmed her down. However, the tears were still welling up as a large amount of pain jolted though her fingers where the needle last penetrated her skin.

"I should've never let Eirin give Tokiko her flu shot. Not when Keine's away."

Earlier, Reimu had brought Eirin over to Keine's house to give Tokiko the annual child youkai vaccination. The shot was developed as a means to help young youkai develop a resistance to common diseases and illnesses but Eirin's method of injection was rather painful and even Suika could feel it despite being drunk on the Lord knows how many gallons of alcohol.

"Don't worry Tokiko, it will go away in a few hours," reassured Reimu. "Do you want me to read this book to you?"

The book-loving bird youkai gave a small nod as she tried to hold back her tears but was clearly reaching her limit. Instantly, Reimu put Tokiko in her lap and began reading the simple short story to the little girl. As she read, Reimu did her best to maintain a balance between toddler attention and elementary child attention.

Tokiko was about seven years old in terms of appearance and mental age though Reimu knew that she had been around for much longer than seven years.

"Look, Tokiko! It's a cat! Can you say 'cat'?"

The bird youkai stared at the picture intently before making an attempt to pronounce the word.

"Ca..t?"

Reimu clapped her hands and ruffled Tokiko's hair.

"That's right! You're so smart! Now try reading the whole sentence."

This went on for quite a bit until Tokiko felt better and by then, it was lunch time. Putting up with Tokiko was a bit of a pain for Reimu. Earlier, she had been crying non-stop over her mother being away from her and Reimu had no way of calming her down. Books weren't working and neither were her fumo dolls.

Not even her favorite toys were able to calm her down and Reimu ended up having to use one of her portal amulets to conjure a live picture of Keine teaching. Thanks to Ryusei, sound couldn't pass through on either end but still, seeing her mother again was enough to calm Tokiko down so she could get her flu shot.

While Tokiko ate her food, Reimu looked at a poster containing all the possible fumo dolls she could currently get. Curious, Tokiko also decided to take a look but was disappointed when she couldn't find one that resembled her mother. Seeing this, Reimu made a mental note to visit Alice and pick up some sewing skills or check on her progress later that night.

"Reimu-san," addressed Tokiko. "Will I ever get my books back? Will mommy come home soon?"

"Yes Tokiko," answered Reimu. "You will and Keine will be back soon."

The two sat in silence before Reimu decided to ask Tokiko a question.

"Tokiko, why do you cry so much when Keine's away?" asked Reimu.

Tokiko began to tear up upon hearing that question and before Reimu knew it, began crying again.

"Oh Tokiko, shh shh. It's gonna be alright," reassured Reimu.

Upon realizing that this was perhaps not the best question to ask, Reimu decided to change topics.

"So, what does your mom like?" asked Reimu.

"Um," pondered the bird youkai. "Good grades!"

Reimu smiled at Tokiko and gently ruffled her head before returning back to her current activity. Internally though, she winced over Tokiko's response. Earlier, Rinnosuke had promised to give her the books back, free of charge, once she was able to find him something that Keine would like. Though Reimu was unsure as to why the shopkeeper would need such, she was beginning to wonder if Rinnosuke had a crush on the teacher.

In any case, if she was going to get Tokiko's books back from Rinnosuke, she would need a better answer than that. After all, they could be instrumental in calming Tokiko over the next few days.

"What's another thing?" asked Reimu. "Like a person or-"

"Good students!" declared Tokiko.

Reimu felt like facepalming. This was going to be harder than she thought.

"So did you find anything?" asked Ryusei.

Reimu shook her head.

"Nope. It was all failures today. I'm starting to wonder if I should just ask Kosuzu if she has any of them."

Ryusei shook his head. "I've already checked with Daiyousei and Sumireko and she has nothing on computers. I could get you a set of those books during my next trip to your outside world if you can tell me their exact title."

"Seriously? I don't even remember a single word on the front cover," revealed Reimu. "Rinnosuke had to use his ability to find those books for me."

"Welp, then I guess I'm no help," commented the samurai. "On the other hand, I've created a few more amulets for you to use. Try not to use them all in one trip alright."

Reimu smiled as she took the slips of paper. "Got it. Also, how's sword hunting going?"

Ryusei winced at the question before pulling out a broken steel katana.

"Not good. I borrowed this from one of your outside world blacksmiths and the blade shattered after a few hits on another sword from my world," informed Ryusei. "Ordinary swords from your world don't last very long on the adventures I go on."

Reimu shook her head as she picked up his discarded steel sword.

"Maybe Kogasa could fix this. Still I doubt she's ever done anything like that."

Ryusei sighed and brought out some energon and some metal carvings.

"Well. I'm gonna have to make my own katana. Hopefully, it's less complicated than my energon blades."

"Good luck then. I'm gonna check on Alice and see her progress with the fumo dolls."

"Did you find her Medicine?" asked Alice.

"Nope. She's not under the sofa momma," came Medicine's reply.

The little doll youkai got out from looking under the couch while her mother closed several cabinet doors and helped her daughter remove several specks of dust from her hair.

"I wonder where she could've gone. I just left her there for one moment and then she disappeared without a trace the next," sighed Alice.

"Not even adding boots or surrounding her in a trace circle helped," added Medicine.

Their search was interrupted by a familiar red and white miko entering their house.

"What are you guys doing?" asked Reimu.

"Looking for a fumo doll," replied Alice. "This is the fifth one that's disappeared from us."

Reimu sighed as she took a seat and examined the line of plush doll replicas Alice had recently made for her. All of them looked exactly like the real thing and Alice had already made a full replica set of each fumo doll Reimu had come into contact with.

However, Reimu had recently requested some custom made fumos of people who had yet to receive the replication treatment. Alice had promised that they'd be ready today but as far as Reimu could tell, none were present at the moment.

"What happened to all the custom fumos?"

"They're the ones that ran away," informed Alice. "Medicine and I have been looking for them but to no avail. We even tried trapping them with equally fruitless results."

"And your door was completely closed during this time," sighed Reimu. "How in Gensokyo did this even happen?"

Both the dollmaker and living doll had no answer for this and simply continued to look around the house, this time, with Reimu's assistance.

"How much time do we have before dark?" asked Alice.

"Almost an hour," replied Reimu. "At this rate, I don't think we'll be able to find it."

Just then, the doorbell rang and soon after, a familiar person stepped inside.

"Are these dolls yours?" asked Ryusei. He sounded and looked slightly annoyed as he did his best to pull off 5 fumo dolls that were stuck to him. Upon setting one on the table, one of the dolls climbed right back onto him, to the shock of everyone present.

"Yeah. They've been following me around ever since I got here and I have no clue what is going on with these dolls."

"Medicine, can you understand what the doll wants?" asked Alice.

Her daughter shook her head while Ryusei continued to have trouble getting the doll to leave him alone.

"Come on now, you'll be fine."

Ryusei tried shaking the Keine doll off of him but to no avail. The doll's grip was tighter than steel despite only being made of fabric and cotton.

After a while, Ryusei sighed and allowed the doll to cling onto him as he walked over to Alice's home.

"It doesn't want to leave me for some reason," sighed Ryusei. "I can't go anywhere with this little girl clinging onto me."

"No worries," commented Alice. "I'll come along to clarify the situation. Besides, I do need to deliver the rest of the dolls."

Reimu nodded as she helped Alice take up a crate of fumos back to her shrine.

"Medicine, mommy's heading to Reimu's shrine, okay. Be a good girl till I come home!" informed Alice.

"No! I go with mommy!" declared Medicine.

Reimu stifled a giggle as the little doll youkai ran up to Alice and clung onto her leg.

"Alright then, you can come," smiled Alice.

She set down the box of dolls and picked up Medicine who instantly snuggled into her adoptive mother's arms.

"She is really attached to you," commented Ryusei. "Are you sure she's not your actual daughter?"

"Nope," replied Alice. "I'm still unmarried and untouched."

"Really?" asked Reimu. "I thought you'd at least try to date someone…"

"Naw. I'm already happy with what I have," smiled Alice. "Especially with this little cutie."

On cue, Alice cuddled Medicine in her arms before turning her attention back to Reimu.

"We're here," announced Reimu. "It's getting late so do either of you wanna stay the night? I've got room."

"Sure," replied Alice. "Certainly will save me some time for tomorrow's trip to the Scarlet Devil Mansion."

"Not like I've got a choice," commented Ryusei. "I'll go check on Hayata and Daiyousei. You can take it easy tonight, Reimu."

Alice watched as Ryusei headed into the room containing the sleeping fairy and trainee. Once she was out of sight, she turned her attention back to Reimu.

"Looks like someone's been keeping themself busy," teased Alice. "How'd you find such a cute guy?"

"Oh yeah, he's from the village," replied Reimu nonchalantly. "And for goodness sake, why does everyone think Ryusei's my boyfriend? He's just a close friend of mine!"

Alice giggled at Reimu's flustered reaction while she wrapped Medicine in some blankets Reimu had lent her.

"Then I guess you wouldn't mind if I took him," replied Alice.

"Make any move on him and you'll wish you stayed in Makai," replied Reimu.

"Oh! So you do have a thing for him."

Alice did her best to not laugh at Reimu's reaction to her comment. Their banter was interrupted by Ryusei returning with the fumo dolls and Daiyousei in his arms.

"Reimu, Daiyousei just woke up and she really wants you," informed Ryusei. The fairy was visibly upset and it seemed that she had been crying for the past hour.

Instinctively. Reimu rushed over to the fairy and after bouncing her in her arms a few times, got the fairy to calm down.

"Shh. Shh. It's okay, I'm here now," reassured Reimu.

Daiyousei clung onto Reimu again and Ryusei gestured to Alice to take Medicine and leave Reimu some privacy with the green hair greater fairy. Once they were gone, Reimu watched as the green hair greater fairy nuzzled her head into her chest and clung onto her.

The fairy looked as if she were a little toddler clinging onto her mother in Reimu's arms. Likewise, Reimu could easily pass off as the fairy's mother or true guardian.

As Reimu cradled Daiyousei in her arms, her heart melted at the sight of the fairy's tiny, tear-stained face.

"I can't believe she's grown so attached to me. This warmth, it's nothing like I've felt before," thought Reimu. Though she had cared and been a babysitter to various children even long before she started her business, Daiyousei had always been different. For one, the greater fairy was quite open towards the Hakurei miko and preferred staying with her whenever she could. Though she hadn't realized it yet, there was a certain level of care and love that Reimu reserved specifically for Daiyousei.

"She even looks the part," squealed Alice. "They're so cute together!"

Ryusei nodded in understanding before heading to a nearby chair.

"You can take the bed. I'll sleep in the chair."

"Thanks," replied Alice. "You're really considerate."

As Alice crawled into the futon with Medicine, Ryusei picked up Hayata and smiled at his apprentice.

"Stay strong little one. Stay strong."
