Chapter 2- Surprise
Jacob was right. I was grounded for the next month.
After I got home, mom made me take a bath and helped me brush out the leftover saw dust in my hair.
Once dad got home from his hunting trip, I got a major talking to about how building tree houses in La push can be dangerous, even if Jake is with me.
Later that night, I woke up to all three of their hushed voices clearly having an argument, though what it was about, I did not know. I only knew it had something to do with me.
They ended up stopping the conversation early and Jacob slammed the door of our small house that night; mom came back in my room and sung me a lullaby till I fell asleep again.
Now, it was a month later, and currently summer break. I was lazily laying in the giant tree near the main Cullen house that had I had deemed "mine" and listening to music on my ipod nano, since I had nothing to do. I had yet to see Amanda again in person but i'm sure the rez school was already out for summer vacation.
Jacob was in La push doing "alpha stuff" and studying for his high school retakes so he could apply for mechanical engineering; and mom and dad were busy running errands in town, getting things ready for the next big Cullen move this winter. Mom was already signed up for college in Vancouver, Canada, and would join the new semester in January, majoring in English literature. Dad was majoring in science this time, no longer interested in medicine since he had 2 degrees already.
I could hear Aunt Rosalie fixing her car in the garage, humming away as she tuned it, and Esme was in the kitchen making me tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches while watching some sort of cooking contest on TV. I had no clue where the others were.
I sighed again in boredom and hit "shuffle" again on my music player. Being grounded sucked.
"Nessie, lunch is ready!" Esme called, and I took out my head phones crooning a song called "Baby" and leaped down to the ground, racing towards the house.
Seth was already in the kitchen, sitting at the island, eating one of my many sandwiches.
"Heyyy!" I said, and he just smiled a big grin at me, his mouth full of food.
"You snooze, you loose." he bragged, taking another bite and wiggling his eye brows at me. Esme didn't say anything, but smiled and added another grill cheese to the already growing pile of food.
I grabbed a plate and took 2 grill cheese while Esme placed a bowl of soup on the table for me.
"Thanks...So this is where you were?" I asked Seth, biting into the cheesey goodness. "I thought Jacob had finally left you off the hook."
"Nope," said Seth, "I'm still on babysitting duty."
I rolled my eyes. "Then why didn't you join me out back? We could have went werewolf fishing in the lake again." I said, referencing the fishing game for wolves I had made up for fun. "I thought I was alone all day, and was really, really, really bored."
Seth shrugged. "I don't know Nessie. I was kind of busy."
"Doing what?" I asked, taking another bite of food.
Seth tapped the side of his head then nodded to me. "Werewolf secret."
I groaned as Aunt Rosalie came into the kitchen. "I can take you shopping today Nessie, if you want."
...To be continued.
