The Amazing Silver Wing

Pilot/Chapter 1: A Different Kind of Amazing (Part 1)

Throughout the many universes collectively known as the Marvel Verse, infinite possible worlds give rise to people with awe-inspiring abilities. These people would then either use these abilities to enrich themselves (more often than not, at the expense of their fellow man) or protect the weak and defenseless from the former. For the most part, the universes that are observed usually follow a similar beat. A young-man fighting in WWII volunteers to undergo an experimental process to become a super-soldier; a group of four are empowered by cosmic rays in a test-flight, a scientist studying radiation, is changed forever due to an incident involving gamma rays; and a mechanical genius builds a suit or armor, armed with heavy fire power to escape a group of terrorists.

Many similarly empowered heroes would follow along a similar path and eventually join the never-ending fight against the forces of evil. Among them, one of the greatest would be Peter Parker, known throughout his universe and many others, as Spider-Man. Like the other heroes mentioned, he too would join the fight against evil after that fateful bite from a radioactive spider. Parker's story is often repeated and retold in many universes observed by those with the means to view them. Many would say that Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man was a universal constant.

However, one must remember that the Marvel Verse is comprised of infinite universes, with infinite possibilities. While it is true that there are infinite realities where Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man on that fateful school trip, there are infinite realities where that is not the case. Despite what a certain dimensionally displaced zealot might tell you, some events do not have to happen in a certain way or not at all. After all General Techtronics was sponsoring more than one demonstration involving different forms of radiation and spiders aren't the only animals flittering about in New York City.

With a groan, I slowly open my eyes and take a moment to figure out where I am. The process is a lot harder than I would like to admit, what with my everything hurting. Now just where the hell was? … fuuuuuuck! Thinking hurts right now. …ugh… …come on… think… think… ow, fuck! Fuck this! I'm going back to sleep. …yeah, not happening... Ow… Ow… Ow-wait! Hold on… okay… okay… okay… Pain's starting to go away… that's good… going… going… gone… …oh yeah, that's much better…

With the ability to think restored, I try to remember where I am. The first thing that I notice is that I'm lying down on something. With a few pats of my hand, I realize that it's a bed. A few more pats and I noticed the… railings? I open one eye and notice that I was in a hospital bed. That explains why it smells like someone had gone overboard with the cleaning products. I wrinkle my nose, that stuff is strong. With a groan I flop back onto the bed. Of course, this sudden shift brings to my attention my sense of touch. Looking down, I notice that I'm dressed in a hospital gown. A quick lift, and I notice that I at least have my underwear on, thankfully.

With that, I settle in to relax. I'm in the hospital. That means that whatever happened, someone got me here and made sure I was looked after. I just need to figure out what happened. A sudden dull throb on my left arm makes jolt. Taking a look I can see… bite marks? Wait, what the hell?

A sudden groan on my right has me looking next to me and I suddenly notice that I'm not alone. In the bed next to me I see someone slowly waking up. The first thing I notice is the long red hair. With the way the hospital gown is clinging to their form, it's obvious that my neighbor is a girl. The girl lets out a hiss, probably from everything hurting like I was just a few moments ago. A few moments later she begins to relax. Slowly she gets up looks around before her eyes land on me and… wow she is really pretty. Green eyes blink at before she finally speaks up: "hey," she coughs a bit. "Sorry, um… where are we," she asks.

I just shrug. "I'm not sure. I think we're in the hospital, if these gowns are anything to go by," I say. She looks down at herself and tugs at her gown. I quickly avert my eyes as I notice that her tugging on the gown is probably exposing more than she would like. "Uh… you might want to be careful," I say. The embarrassed squeak and shifting lets me know that she caught on. Taking a risk, I glance back and notice that she's wrapped up in her bedsheet, thankfully.

"So, yeah, hospital," I say again. "Got any idea what happened?" "Uh… no, I don't. Or at least, I don't remember. It feels like a buzzer is going off in my head," she finishes in a groan. Not that she mentions it I can feel a slight ringing between my own head, and I have to slap my hands over my ears for a bit. Slowly, the ringing begins to fade, and I relax a little bit. Glancing over, I can see the girl begin to lower her hands from her own temples. She looks at me and gives me a strained smile, which I return.

Before I can speak up, I hear another groan, this time on my left. I look over and notice someone else in a bed next to me. I look back at the redhead and point at this other person, raising an eyebrow. Red just shrugs, clearly not knowing who our roommate is. After some, shuffling the person groans and lets out a few curses in what I recognize as Korean. Soon enough, the other person gets up while rubbing their temples. Peeking out through their hands, the other person glances our way before they lower their hands. It's then that I realize that it's another girl and she's also rather pretty as well. Staring for a bit at us with brown eyes through black locks, the other girl speaks up: "um… hi," she gives an awkward wave. "Yeah, uh… hi," I wave back. "Hey, you wouldn't happen to remember anything about how we got here would you?" The dark-haired girl frowns. "How we got here? I… all can remember is a lab and- FUCK!" The dark-haired swears again, clapping her hands against her head and curling up into a ball.

Now worried and more alert, I quickly get up and go to her side. Honestly, I have no idea what to do, so I try to rub her head. This turns out to be a mistake as she grabs me and somehow flips me over to the other side of her bed. While my head is swimming, I hear someone shout. There are some scuffling noises as I get back up as I get up. I then notice that the two girls are pulling on each other's hair. "Woah! Hey! Hey! Hey! Calm down! Both of you!" Moving to break them up, I try to pry their arms off each other, only this time both of them flip me over. …ow.

"Oh, OH SHIT." "Crap! Sorrysorrysorrysorrysorry!"

Head's swimming again, I notice through blurry vision that both of them are leaning over me with worried looks. "Well at least, they're not fighting," is the last thing before a black out for a bit.

…ow.

That's the first thing that goes through my head, as I wake up. I notice I'm in bed again. I slowly sit up shaking my head for a bit. As I open my eyes again, I notice both girls are talking to a brunette in a lab coat. "…honestly, I'm not even sure how he doesn't have any serious injuries. That kind of damage should have at least left some bruising." Then the doctor notices that I'm up. "Oh Mr. Fortier, you're awake! My name is Dr. Catherine Conroy. I honestly didn't expect you to be back up so quick."

I just shrugged "well yeah, I got tossed a bit, but I'm feeling fine."

The doctor looks at me with a strange expression on her face. "… Mr. Fortier, do you remember what happened?"

"Do you mean before we got here or just now?"

"…just now, if you would."

I glance at both of the girls, who somehow look relieved, worried and guilty at the same time. I then look back at the doctor and respond. "Well when I woke up I felt like everywhere really hurt, then I noticed her- wait, what's your name," I ask the red-haired girl. Looking a bit anxious, the red-haired girl hesitates before answering; "I'm Mary." "Right, Mary. So, when I woke up, I was hurting everywhere for a bit. Once the pain went away, I looked around and noticed Mary and asked her if she remembered what happened. Then I feel like my head is ringing for a bit, and I can't really do much. After that we notice-" I point to the black haired girl. "Cindy," she says at my prompting. "Yeah, Cindy. I noticed Cindy. I asked her if she knew what was going on. She starts talking for a bit, before she gets with what looked like a serious headache. I tried to help her but, I guess I must have made things worse because she knocked me over. I think Mary got upset because she got into a scuffle with Cindy. I try to break them up before they knock me over again."

By the time I'm done, both the girls look very guilty, while Dr. Conroy is giving me that strange sort of look again. "Mr. Fortier… do you… are you sure that your fine?"

Now I'm feeling confused. "What? What? What's wrong?" Cindy, looking nervous then lifts a finger to point somewhere at the space between our beds. I look over and nearly feel my eyes bulge out. On the floor is a very clear line of cracks in the floor.

I look up at the others in the room with wide eyes. "…what the fuck?!"

"Yes, I have to admit that that was my exact thought. When Ms. Moon and Ms. Watson called for help and… Mr. Fortier… are you okay? You've gone pale!"

I ignore her and look at both of the two girls in front of me. Slowly I point at them and ask them, "I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch your names. Could you repeat them for me." No…

The two of them look at each other for a bit before the black-haired girl speaks up. "I'm Cindy. Cindy Moon."

…no…

The red-haired girl follows suit.

"My names Mary. Mary-Jane Watson, but you can call me M.J."

…noooo…

With a guilty expression on her face M.J. keeps talking; "I'm really sorry if I hurt you."

…no, no, no, noooo…

Cindy, also looking guilty speaks up; "yeah, I didn't mean to slam you like that. It's just, it felt like my body moved on its own."

…fuck…

"Mr. Fortier!" Dr. Conroy suddenly rushes over as I collapse back onto my bed and curl up. Suddenly a rush of memories not entirely my own comes to me and a whole lot of information is crammed into my head. Distantly, I can hear the others in the room shouting with someone calling for help. Right now, I'm too busy trying to process everything that has happened. Not just now, but over the past 18 years of my new life.

…fucking hell, this is really happening.

Well, you've seen the stories. By now it shouldn't be too hard to figure out what's going on. I've been reborn in a new life in the Marvel Verse as one Reynard Oliver Fortier. This is the story of how I would go on to become a superhero. Of course, as my new memories showed, in those early days, adjusting to my new life would prove to be quite the challenge due to Rey's past actions.

That said, I knew I would have to do it. My being there changed a lot of things. And with Spider-Man potentially not being a thing in this universe, I would have to take up the slack. Thus begins my story, as The Amazing Silver Wing.
